Detour

An Angel's Promise To The Sky

EVERYONE is getting ready for their way back to Korea and they are in Roissy Airport waiting for their flight back. Sora is in a coffee shop drinking a cup of her favorite Americano while Leeteuk is sipping his hot chocolate,

“How did you find our tour here in Paris, Sora-ya?” Leeteuk asked

“I really enjoyed it a lot, oppa. I never thought I would be getting the chance to see the places that I only read on books and pictures.” Sora replied and smiled to Leeteuk, “Gomawo, yeobo.”

“But honestly, I never expected to see you here. Considering that you have followed me all the way here means you love me very much.” Leeteuk said and she heard him stifle a laugh, “You really surprised me when you showed up.”

“That’s the purpose, oppa. I wanted to surprise you. I know that you have been busy lately and I’ll be busy these coming days too. I have a lot of guesting and photo shoots that I have to attend to when we go back. I also have some CFs that I have to film as well.” Sora replied to her boyfriend,

“That’s why I want to make up to you. You always do the same thing for me every time you’re free from work, oppa.”

“Does that mean you also have a schedule on your birthday, yeobo? Then we won’t get to meet on your special day?” Leeteuk asked while glancing at Sora,

Mianhe, oppa but I think that would happen. I think I’m scheduled to film another CF that day.” Sora replied and sighed heavily,

Arasso. That only means my Sora-ssi is really a busy woman now.” Leeteuk replied and gave her a warm smile,

The two of them chatted more about their next activities in Korea and how would they meet each other despite their busy schedules, especially now that they won’t be filming We Got Married, which was their only chance to publicly be sweet and affectionate to each other.

They were discussing of a post – birthday date when Leeteuk’s phone rang. It was the Super Junior Prince Manager,

“Leeteuk-ssi, it’s time to board the plane. Come back with Sora-ssi quickly, the boys are almost complete and you’re the only one who’s not here yet. Pali, Pali!” Kim Junghoon said before hanging up the phone on Leeteuk,

Gaja, Princess. It’s time to go back. Manager hyung is already waiting for us.” Leeteuk said and stretched his hand on Sora,

Sora grabbed Leeteuk’s hand and they went to the boarding station together. She saw the SJ Manager waiting for them, “Pali, pali. Honestly, you lovebirds are such slowpokes when you’re together.” Junghoon told them,

“Where are the others, Junghoon oppa?” Sora asked looking for the other Super Junior members,

“They have already boarded the plane, Sora-ssi. Since your Jungsoo oppa here is really slow, the others have settled themselves already on the plane. You’re the only one we’re waiting and we’re ready to go.” Junghoon replied to Sora,

Sora walked ahead of Leeteuk and Junghoon going to the tube. She saw the other Super Junior members comfortably sitting on their designated seats and greeted her when she walked in,

Eunhyuk sat next to Donghae, Yesung is seated beside Ryeowook , Shindong is beside Siwon. She also saw her friend, Jiyeon who is sitting beside the SJ Maknae, Kyuhyun.

She looked for their seat number and saw that they will be sitting opposite Sungmin who is sitting alone, guessing that he will be beside the SJ Manager.

Annyeong haseyo, Sora-ssi. How did you find our trip in Paris?” Sungmin asked her,

“It was awesome. But I liked the most is I get to spend a lot of time with you guys, specially Jungsoo oppa.” Sora replied and smiled at him,

Ne. I’m sure you really surprised hyung when you appeared on his door. That’s why he was really inspired to finish the shoot and did his work really well because you were there, Sora. You really fit each other.” Sungmin replied to her,

“Gomawo, Sungmin oppa. I’m really glad that you guys approve of us having a relationship.” Sora replied back, shyly.

“Of course. ‘Coz we always see how happy our hyung is when he’s with you and we can also see that you’re happy with him too. But can I be honest with you though, Sora-ssi?” Sungmin suddenly asked her,

“We were quite sad when we heard that you turned him down when he asked you to marry him. You do know how Leeteuk hyung loves you, right?” Sungmin said, asking Sora.

“Sungmin, that’s not really my intention. I really want to be with Jungsoo oppa. It’s just that I was worried about Taeyeon eonnie that time when he asked me.” Sora replied and bowed her head,

“I even regretted what I said to him afterwards because I know I got insecure again and he was not aware about it. Even though he has told me a lot of times not to. But still – “

“I understand now. You thought about the complications that’s going to bring both of you more than what you feel for our hyung. Correct?” Sungmin said and Sora just nodded,

“Alright. We all forgive you, anyway. We all know that not all relationships are smooth and we don’t want to talk both of you out of it ‘coz that’s your situation. It’s best if no one will dwell on your relationship other than you two.” Sungmin said and smiled at Sora,

“Just remember that we all got your back, Sora-ssi. You’re our hyungsunim and if you got some minor issues about our hyung, just don’t be shy to ask anyone of us. Just make our hyung happy like you always do, too.”

Sora was not able to reply back on what Sungmin has said because they saw  Leeteuk coming to seat beside Sora and Junghoon sat beside Sungmin. He winked at her before talking to their manager hyung.

Just like their previous flight, the Super Junior members including Sora drifted to sleep on their way back…

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we are approaching Los Angeles, California. Please fasten your seatbelts and make sure that your lap trays are in an uptight position. Please turn off electronic devices …”

The announcement of Captain woke Sora up. She then looked at the window and saw the tall buildings of California, surrounding the airport. She turned to the other side and saw Sungmin and the others squinting their eyes, a sign that they just woke up as well.

“Jungsoo oppa, ireonaseyo! We’re already in LA and we’re about to get off.” Sora said and tugged Leeteuk on his shoulder.

They all got ready for their connecting flight to Korea and they had only an hour before their scheduled flight.

Super Junior and the rest of the crew took their breaks and roam around the place by dining in a restaurant near the airport. They all had their lunch together and took some more pictures while waiting.

After the meal, the boys stood one by one and walked towards Sora’s side and greeting her again,

“Good Luck, Sora-ssi!” she heard Kyuhyun said when he walked towards her seat.

“Fighting, hyungsunim!” Sora then heard Ryeowook say next,

“I’m going to miss you a lot, Sora-ssi.” Yesung said and suddenly hugged Sora  that startled her,

“Yah! Yesung hyung, what are you doing?!” Donghae and Eunhyuk asked Yesung and pulled him off from Sora, “You shouldn’t do that. We have to go now, hyung. Kaja!”

“Enjoy, Sora-ssi!” Eunhyuk and Donghae said before pulling Yesung off with them,

“What’s with them, Jungsoo oppa? They all seem so weird today. They are saying good luck to me” Sora said while looking at the boys who are walking away from them,

“You shouldn’t mind them, Princess. The long flight must be making them weird.” Leeteuk said to her,

“Shouldn’t we get going too, oppa? They are already ahead of us. We might be late for the flight.” Sora answered,

“Yeah, I guess you’re right or we might miss our plane. Let’s go.” Leeteuk said and stood up from his chair.

When they boarded the plane again, she noticed that there’s no other familiar face inside other than Leeteuk who is sitting beside her. She looked around the other passengers but she didn’t see anyone, even the one of the boys.

“Oppa-ya…” Sora called Leeteuk’s attention. He glanced back at her,

“What is it, yeobo? Is there something wrong?” Leeteuk asked,

“Where are Sungmin oppa and the others? Are we on the right plane?”  Sora asked him back,

“Yes, we are. Just rest for a while and we’re going to have a long flight. Don’t mind about the others.” Leeteuk answered and relaxed,

“But where are Sungmin oppa and the others? Even Junghoon oppa is not here.” Sora replied, kind of worried.

“Yah, Kang Sora-ssi! Are you making me jealous by looking for other guys?” Leeteuk said playfully acting mad,

“Sungmin and Junghoon hyung are probably getting some sleep at the moment, refilling their energies back when they land back to Korea.” Leeteuk answered casually and closed his eyes,

“Mweo? What do you mean by that? In which plane are we then?” Sora asked him nervously,

“We’re in a plane going to New York, yeobo. We’re going to enjoy the City of Lights.”

The Fading of Bright Stars

In the years we shared work spaces, seldom did our hours crossed. She worked night shifts, while I move around across different time zones to meet the demands of my profession. She was a luminary; a survivor of countless excisions when the demands of work is lesser than what is required of human resources. And if not for the months-long infirmity last year, she would have endured the most recent culling. She became part of the statistics, only to return when a colleague flew abroad to get married and live with her fiancé.

A fine lady in her early 30's, one would easily mistake her for an East Asian. Her eyes disappear when she smiles, and her porcelain skin is the envy of many. Her gauntly frame, albeit a cause of concern, hardly bothers any. Colleagues would tell she eats nothing but Chippy and Coke. But who are we to forbid her of such pleasures? She delivers, and for all we care, satisfied are we of her job performance.

Talk is an avocation the two of us hardly engage. Reason lies in office hierarchy, but more so, because we respect each other's solitary leanings. But this doesn't mean ambivalence, or hidden disdain. Words may have never articulated what my thoughts were, but I've always regarded her in high esteem.
