happy ending.

“Miyoon-sshi, I was wondering if you would be interested in perhaps grabbing a bite with me.?” A young and dashing doctor by the name of Kim Seokjin questioned shyly. Miyoon mixed in the cream and sugar for her caffeinated coffee, her third cup of the day, and quirked a questioning brow at him. She blew on the hot beverage to cool it off and then took a swig. Dr. Kim had just transferred over from a different hospital stationed in Busan so he was pretty new to the area.

“I actually have plans already, I’m sorry, Seokjin-sshi.” She answered politely. “But I’m sure one of the other nurses would love to accompany you.” Miyoon’s tone came off as a bit annoyed and some might even say irritated but it was out of her control. She didn’t mean to sound so rude but what she was saying was also very, very true. Ever since Seokjin had arrived to the facility, all of the female nurses, doctors and employees around him were dazed and failing at reaching their full potential to provide their patients with the best care. Things were pretty chaotic nowadays and she wasn’t a huge fan of the changes.

There was no doubt in her mind that the man was charmingly handsome but because of him, the hospital was beginning to run amuck. He definitely messed up things around here and Miyoon refused to befriend a man like him. Who knows what kind of psycho stalker he might have attracted. Plus, if she accepted his offer, people might misinterpret her actions. To her it may just be lunch with a colleague, but from an outsider’s perspective it could be many, many things.

“Actually, I don’t really know anyone else around her besides you.” Seokjin muttered sadly. “But I understand if you’ve already got plans. I can eat alone, I’m used to it.” There was a hint of genuinity in his voice and Miyoon found herself feeling bad all of a sudden. “It’s just you’re the easiest and not to mention normalest person I have been able to conduct a steady conversation with since I’ve arrived here. Every time I talk to someone else, they just zone out and aren’t even paying attention to anything I said. It feels like being the new kid in school and having no friends.”

His head was hung low as he released an exasperated sigh. For a moment, the two of them stood there with nothing but awkward silence speaking to them. Miyoon found herself wavering out of pity and sympathy and her lips were tugged slightly downwards. She was nibbling on her bottom lip, when her phone vibrated. It was so quiet that the vibrations could be heard echoing through the small break room.

Seokjin looked at her and she sent him a small and embarrassed nod. Next, Miyoon pulled out her phone and saw that it was a text from Hoya. Immediately, she checked it which only led her frown to deepen. Hoya had messaged her he had something important to tend to which meant he had to cancel their lunch date. After that cancellation, he said he’d just see her back at home for dinner. Yes, believe it or not the two of them had finally moved in with each other. Miyoon was certainly iffy on the idea, afraid and anxious that her lover wouldn’t wait until their honeymoon but he assured her he wouldn’t try anything because she was worth it all.

Therefore, Miyoon ended up caving into the idea and it has been a little under four months since they’ve come under the same roof. To say she was disappointed would be an understatement. This was the third time this week Hoya had blown her off and this time she really thought they were going to go out together. They both had been swamped with their own duties and barely got to spend some quality time with each other anymore and it was starting to gnaw at Miyoon. She had always tried making time for him but when she did, he would have none for her. And when he would be able to spare her a minute, she would be too preoccupied with the children.

Her face was beginning to display her doubt in their relationship as she replied back with a simple: “No problem. See you back at home.” Once she hit the send button, she stuffed the device back into her pocket and tossed out her coffee cup which was she had barely consumed.

“Is something wrong?” Seokjin worried as he took a step closer to her.

Miyoon forced herself to smile as she shook her head in denial. “It looks like the new kid in school has just found a friend to have lunch with. Where do you want to go to eat?”

The latter was taken aback at her remark as his mind processed her every word. When he realized she was taking him up on his offer, he smiled happily. “I heard there’s this new Italian restaurant a few blocks away from here. What do you think?”

“Italian?” Miyoon repeated as she cocked her head to the side. She was thinking about it before she nodded. “I could go for some pasta.”

“Really?” Seokjin beamed. “Most people here don’t really fancy European food but I’m glad you do. Why don’t you wait out front while I go get my car?”

“Sounds like a plan.” She chuckled, seeing how drastically his face and aura had brightened.

As she watched Seokjin literally bolt out of the place, she released a disheartened sigh. She took out her phone and stared longingly at the screensaver. It was a photo of Hoya and her. He was behind her, his arms dangling around her waist as his chin rested on her shoulder. They were smiling lovingly, her eyes on him and his directed at the camera. Reading over his last text again, she felt her heart cringe. “What’s so important that you can’t even spend an hour with me?”

“Oh, Miyoon, are you okay?” Sena entered with her brows arched and Miyoon quickly slipped her phone away. She straightened out her posture and tried her best plastering on her most non-synthetic smile.

“Of course. I’m just going out for lunch with Seokjin-sshi. Would you like to join us?” Sena was sure something was off but if Miyoon didn’t want to tell her, she wasn’t going to force it out of her. She drew in closer and placed a hand on Miyoon’s shoulder.

“You know you can always talk to me if you have something burdening you, right?” Miyoon glanced up at the woman and smiled sincerely this time.

Gently, she shrugged her grasp off and clucked her tongue. “Yes, I know. But it’s really nothing. So are you going to come along or?”

Sena hitched her lips to the side and shook her head. “Chen is picking me up but why don’t we have lunch tomorrow?”

“Sounds like a plan.” Miyoon confirmed. Just as she was about to exit, she froze at the door and peered over her shoulder. “Sena?”

“Hm?” the woman muffled back in response.

“You’re really lucky Chen ge spends so much time with you. It means he really loves you and is never too busy for you. I’m almost envious of your relationship.” She stated sounding a tad bitter. Nonetheless she forced a smile to stretch across her face. “Make lots of memories together before there’s no more time left.” And those were the last words she uttered before she dragged herself out of the building.

Seokjin was already waiting for her and she was caught off guard when he opened the door for her. He was so attentive towards her, it was nice. “Thank you,” she whispered as she climbed in.

The ride to the restaurant Seokjin had suggested was for the most part filled with silence. The man had attempted to talk to Miyoon but she was staring out the window, tuning everything around her out. All she could see were the cars and trees they were passing by and she closed her eyes. Would things be this way after they got married?

“We’re here, Miyoon-sshi.” Seokjin announced as he softly jolted Miyoon’s arm. Her eyes fluttered open and noticed the car was parked in a nice and spacious parking lot which was packed. She looked out the window and had to admit the place looked luxurious and pretty expensive. “Aren’t you going to come out?” Miyoon’s head swiveled to the left and she found her colleague standing outside, sporting an amused smile.

“Oh, neh.” She said dumbly as she exited the vehicle. Then she reviewed her attire and compared herself to a woman coming out of the restaurant who was dressed in a nice gown. Her brows furrowed as she looked at Seokjin. “I don’t really think I’m dressed to dine here.”

“Nonsense, I think you look fine.” The doctor disagreed as she came to his side.

“No,” she argued. “You look fine. I don’t.” She was right. Seokjin was already wearing nice dress pants and a long-sleeved white button-up shirt w
