Presentations and Projects with Miyoon.
What She Never Told Himcandy.
“You want me to paint Mars what color? Why can’t I just paint it green?” Miyoon whined, dipping her paint brush into a brownish-red color.
“Because Mars is not green. Don’t you pay attention in class?” Chunji asked. He tried focusing on the work instead of being upset with Miyoon. There was still a part of him aching from what he saw between Miyoon and Myungsoo days ago. He tried to play it off and act as if everything was alright, but deep down he knew that he needed an answer.
However, he wasn’t sure when it was the correct time to mention what had happened. He heard about the two being the best of friends but to him it felt like something more. Chunji sighed and tried to paint the finer details of Earth. According to Miyoon, it was too detailed for her to do therefore the job was pushed to Chunji. They were at his house working on their project and Miyoon couldn’t wait for them to finish up.
She had painted only three planets so far on the balls of styrofoam they had bought and she was beginning to lose interest. She was never interested in arts so why should she start now. As she wore an irked expression blotting the styrofoam, Chunji glanced up at her and bit his lip. She’s really pretty.
When Miyoon blew a raspberry and looked up, Chunji quickly averted his gaze. She stared at him with her head corked to the side and then returned back to her work. “Kids come get a snack,” Mrs. Lee shouted from the kitchen and Miyoon was the first to react. Free food was something everybody loved.
Without waiting for the host himself, Miyoon bolted to the kitchen where the food would be waiting to be devoured by her. Chunji frowned when he noticed she had abandoned him and sulked after her. “You couldn’t even wait.” He grumbled before entering the same room.
Miyoon spun around, stuffed with crackers as she tried smiling. She attempted to talk but nothing she said made any sense. Mrs. Lee chuckled and handed her a cup of juice. She chugged it down and wiped with the back of her hand. “Eat some, Chunji! It’s really good.” She beamed and at that instant, his despair was vanquished.
“Are they really? Oh these are my favorite.” He commented, seeing what his mother had prepared for them.
“I guess the two of you do have some things in common,” Mrs. Lee winked at her son which made him blush. Thank goodness for him Miyoon wasn’t paying attention because she was too engrossed with the delicious variation of snacks his mother had so diligently prepared.
This was the first time Chunji had ever brought a girl home and of course Mrs. Lee was excited even though they were only children. Just by the way he talked to her and looked at Miyoon, Mrs. Lee was aware that her son had developed a little crush.
“Chanhee, just bring it to the front so it will be easier for you guys.” Chunji nodded and did as told.
“Komawo, Mrs. Lee.” Miyoon said as she bowed and scurried after the food.
“Slow down before you choke,” Chunji advised as Miyoon waved her hands, disregarding the idea of that ever happening. And then what do you know, she began coughing. Chunji panicked and smacked her back, repeatedly.
When she ceased, she turned to him and frowned. “You hit hard.” His eyes widened and guilt began to eat him alive. But then a smile crept onto Miyoon’s face as she lightly, punched his arm. “I knew you had it in you,” she grinned as she resumed eating.
Ask her right now. Chunji cleared his throat and scratched the nape of his neck. “Miyoon, what’s going on between you and Myungsoo sunbae?” his words came out crisp and clear which was rather contradicting to how he was feeling on the inside.
Miyoon swallowed the last chunk of food remaining in and simply bore her eyes into his head. “What do you mean? We’re best friends.” She answered, casually. Yet Chunji felt entitled to know more about their relationship.
Something just seemed really, really off to him. “So you don’t like him?”
And his answer came immediately. “Of course I like him.” Chunji felt his world crumbling at his feet. “If I didn’t why would he be my best friend,” she finished.
“Ah that’s right, haha. Because it wouldn’t make sense for you to be friends with someone you don’t like.” Chunji dryly chuckled.
“Exactly, so why’d you ask.” Miyoon scoffed. At that time, she didn't think much about his question nor did she feel as though he knew anything concerning her true feelings towards Myungsoo.
“At one time there were two different theories in which scientists believed the solar system worked. The first was called the geo-centric. This theory was probably the one most people favored. It points out that the earth, the planet we inhabit, was the center of the universe.” Chunji reported to the class as they nodded.
It was quiet as they turned to Miyoon who was leaning against their teacher's desk, dazing out the window. “Ms. Wu, I am assuming it is your turn to talk?” the teacher spoke.
Miyoon snapped out of her thoughts and grunted a bit. She pulled out a crumpled sheet of paper and Chunji grew red. She really didn't bother to memorize the information.
“And the second theory which isn't really a theory anymore was called the helio-centric theory. This was the belief that uhm,” Miyoon paused as she tried to decipher her own scribbling. I knew I shouldn't have rushed this morning.
“The sun was in the middle of everything and yeah.” was how she completed her statement since that was all she actually had etched into her mind.
“Well, thank you Chanhee, Miyoon. You may both take your seats.” The teacher pronounced and a round of applause was given off.
As they plopped into their seats and two more students went to present, Miyoon's eyelids began to feel heavy. She began to drift asleep sitting straight with her head bobbing up and down.
Chunji grew less intrigued with the presentation and decided to nag Miyoon about her lack of preparation. However, he was surprised when he saw her eyes pressed shut. Her lips were slightly parted and he watched as her eyelashes curled perfectly upwards. Her porcelain skin was flawless and her gentle breathing made him shiver.
Wu Miyoon was simply beautiful to him and Chunji couldn't help but imagine how gorgeous she'd look when she got older. And he wasn't the only one thinking about that. His hand reached out to graze her cheek but then the bell rang, awakening her. Chunji retracted it faster than a blink of an eye and Miyoon yawned.
“Dismissal already?” she mumbled, drowsily.
“Yep.” he
