What She Never Told Him

tell me, tell me.

“I got a D?” Miyoon gaped at her exam. Her professor sighed and shook her head before she carried on and passed out the rest of the corrected tests.

“See me after class, Ms. Wu.” She announced right as the bell rang.

The students all started murmuring as Miyoon sulked over to her teacher’s desk. “I studied really hard though.”

“I know you do which was why I found it extremely odd. And the funny thing is, while one of my brightest students flunked another one who can barely manage straight C’s passed with flying colors.” Mrs. Go remarked.

“Really?” Miyoon inquired. She then examined her test closer and didn’t recall circling half of the answers. “I’m pretty sure I know what cardiovascular disease is.”

“I know.” She exhaled. “Ms. Wu, I’m very appalled to say this but I think one of your classmates cheated and switched your test with their own. Did you give your test to anyone or see anything out of the ordinary?”

Miyoon tucked the exam under her arm and thought about it. Seconds later she recalled what had happened that day. “That’s right. Soojung-sshi offered to bring my test up for me because my leg had fallen asleep.”

“It was a good thing you said that.” Mrs. Go nodded.

“What? It is? Why? Omo, was she the one who passed with flying colors?”

The professor stood up from her seat and nodded. “This calls for expulsion.”

“Expulsion?” Miyoon repeated. “But she’s a senior, gyohsoonim. She’s on the verge of graduating.”

“Rules are rules. She violated a school policy and performed academic dishonesty as well. She deserves it.” Mrs. Go explained walking over to the telephone hooked by her supply closet.

Miyoon nibbled on her bottom lip. Sure, she wanted Soojung to pay for stealing her test but not at this level. She couldn’t destroy someone’s future so ruthlessly even though Soojung might not have any. “Please, gyohsoonim. Don’t make a big fuss out of it. It’s really no big deal. One grade will only bring my GPA down by no more than a point. I don’t need it as badly as Soojung-sshi does.”

“But if I ignore this, she’ll realize she could do it again.” She protested.

“Not if we take extra precaution. I’m fine with it, Mrs. Go. I’ll live.” Miyoon assured.

Mrs. Go gave in and placed the phone back in its original place. “Where did you learn to be so forgiving, Ms. Wu?”

The young student chuckled, “Let’s just say I’m finally learning to let things go and forget.”

“Well, that is a very commendable trait, young lady. I will you see you in the next lesson then.”

“Neh, gyohsoonim.” Miyoon smiled before darting out of there.

As she walked through the campus she sighed and tossed Soojung’s test into a trashcan. “There are always more chances to redeem yourself.” She muttered. It was time for her to return to her new home yet again and Miyoon was excited because she finally had a place to call her own and she couldn’t believe it.

Making her way to the school’s parking lot, Miyoon pulled out her keys but then clumsily dropped them. She huffed but bent down to retrieve them anyways. Suddenly her phone beeped and as she closed the door to her Audi Yunhee had kindly given to her two weeks ago, she decided to open up the message.

It was a video from Kris and Yunhee.

Miyoon turned up the volume and set the phone onto her dashboard so that she was able to secure her seatbelt. She started the engine and hit play.

“Xiaxia!” Yunhee cried out.

“Hey, don’t call that twerp such an endearing name. It makes me jealous.” From the angle the phone was held, Miyoon figured it was her gigantic gege doing all of the camera work.

The happy couple was seated on the couch and Kris had one arm coiled around Yunhee’s shoulders as he pouted. “You’re the twerp here. I can call Xiaxia whatever I want!” her unnie shot back poking Kris’s forehead back.

Miyoon cackled seeing her brother rubbing his head and because of the insult he had just been hit with. “I’m not the twerp. Yunnie, why are you doing this?”

Yunhee had rolled her eyes and then she saw her going for the camera. For a minute Miyoon couldn’t see anything but the ceiling however the sound was all there. “Yunnie, you can’t take the phone.” She heard Kris nag.

“Of course I can. This was my idea.” Yunhee retorted “Let go mo tian lou so I can say stuff to Xiaxia.”

“Like what?”

“Like maybe: I miss you, how are you, did you know how much of a baby your oppa can be. You know the usual.” Yunhee snickered

“Andwae! Not after you called me a twerp.” Kris retaliated. Next, the phone fell to the floor and everything was black. Yet the video was still rolling.

“Yah, yah! Get off of me!” Miyoon heard Yunhee order.

“As if!” Kris’s voice scoffed. “And I have no idea why you did that, yeobo. You know how hot I get when you call me names.” Then Miyoon’s foot slammed onto the breaks hearing how seductive Kris sounded. Although she knew the two were already familiar with each other physically, she still did not like the idea of her gege doing those types of things to her precious soon-to-be sister-in-law.

“You could have just said angry, you byuntae.”

“There you go unnie, get him!” Miyoon cheered as she snatched the phone, speaking to it as though they could hear her.

“But I’m not angry. I’m hot.” Kris purred.

It was quiet after that besides a few indistinct noises. Miyoon’s eyes widened and she felt like hurling. “DELETE!” she shrieked doing so immediately. After doing that she threw her phone into the backseat and stepped on the gas. I am definitely going to teach Yifan a lesson when I see him. I don’t want to be an aunt yet!

Once she arrived at her house, Miyoon trudged to the door and unlocked it. Before entering, she checked her mailbox and discovered a few letters for her. She took them and began scanning each one as she entered the house. “Not important. Total scam. Bad credit, please.” Miyoon clucked her tongue at each envelope until she froze on one with the Seoul International Hospital of Studies’ logo printed on the left hand corner.

She saw that it was addressed to her and was literally immobilized. Everything besides that letter dropped to the floor and next thing you know, Miyoon was shredding the envelope into pieces.

She hastily unfolded the paper and all she had to read were the first three words before she jumped around screaming with glee. “I got in! I got accepted as an intern!” she cried out as she fell onto the couch and started kicking her feet in the air as she held the letter with both hands over her face.

Looking at the words: Congratulations Ms. Wu Miyoon again, Miyoon squealed and kissed the sheet of paper. “I really did it!”

Confused? Don’t be.

About three months ago, Miyoon along with a few other intellectual and full of potential pre-med students were recommended for an internship at SIHS. However, there were a lot of those kids unfortunately which meant Miyoon had a lot of competition to deal with. The requirements for the internship were that the applicant must have a minimum average of 3.5, he or she must write up an essay into why the facility should select them and lastly, the candidate had to go through an interview with the directors of the place.

Miyoon was overwhelmed as hell but with the support of those around her and her own self-determination to succeed in life, she was able to work hard.

And in the end she got the exact outcome she wanted.

Without thinking Miyoon picked up her phone and scrolled to Myungsoo’s name. She wanted to share the first news with her best friend of course. And as her finger was about to tap the call button, she stopped. Her eyes rounded and she shook her head and locked the device.

She almost wasted all of her efforts.

“You don’t have to share anything with him anymore, Xiazi. He’s nobody to you and you’re nobody to him.” She snarled bitterly. She sat up and gazed upon her acceptance letter but that once joyous feeling was now replaced with spite and sorrow.

Realizing how pathetic she was being, Miyoon snapped out of her depression and jumped to her feet. You can’t do this to yourself, Xia. You can’t. It’s almost the end of the school year and once you surpass this phase you’ll be a free lady.

“Ah, I know who I can tell!” she beamed before heading out the door again.

“Halmeoni!” Miyoon smiled when the door swung open.

“Miyoon-ah! You’re here again.” Mrs. Park chirped.

“Neh and today I have some exceptionally good news.” She proudly announced.

“Why don’t you come in then?” Mrs. Park suggested.

Miyoon nodded and stepped in. As the door closed behind her, she slipped out of her shoes.

Some people might think that Miyoon never kept her promise about visiting the Lee Residence more often. However, they thought wrong. Miyoon actually went there when she could. Once a week at the least or three at the most. But the thing about her timing was that she always went when that certain person who believed she didn’t keep her word was out of the house most of the time because he was at practice.

Therefore he would always miss her visits.

Perhaps if he wasn’t such a sports addict and decided to take a few days off, he would have known Miyoon came ever so often. His mother and grandmother would talk about her visits but Hoya always tuned the conversation out once he heard her name.

Every time he heard it he couldn’t help but feel the anger swelling in the pit of his stomach. Hey, nobody told him to assume because like they say when you assume, you make an out of u and me.

“Miyoon-ah, glad to see you again.” Mrs. Lee grinned as she stopped feeding Mr. Lee porridge.

“Annyonghaeseyo, omonim, abeonim.” She greeted with bows.

Mr. Lee’s lips twitched up into half a smile and this caused Miyoon to smile wider. “You’re happy to see me, aren’t you abeonim?”

Mrs. Lee turned to her husband and when she saw the improved muscle movement of his face, her expression was priceless. “Omona, sweetheart. You’re really responding to Miyoon, huh?” she had her arms wrapped around his neck and when she had finished her proclamation, she lightly hit his chest and pouted. “You should be smiling like that to your wife.”

Mr. Lee still had the smile on his face as his head slightly moved side-to-side. He was obviously amused with his wife’s childish behavior. I wonder who Hoya learned to be childish from.

“Anyways, what was the good news?” Mrs. Park questioned.

Next, Miyoon went into her bag and held the letter in the air. “Read it and weep.”

Mrs. Park took the paper and she wasn’t even through the first line when dropped. She glanced from the paper then to Miyoon then back to the paper.

“Miyoon-ah! You got the intern spot! Aigoo, we’re so proud of you!” she cheered pulling Miyoon into a tight hug.

Miyoon smiled softly and wrapped her arms around Mrs. Park. If only baba and mama were in the country to say the same thing to me.

“Are you excited?” Mrs. Lee questioned. “We know how bad you wanted this.”

The latter automatically nodded. “Heck yeah I’m excited! You guys are actually the first people who know.”

“Really? What about your parents?” Mrs. Park questioned. She had been on another break from work.

“They’re in Singapore.” Miyoon answered as she stared at the ground.
