Kwon... What?

Luck And You

Jaeun stared at that small paper she received this morning all day long. She was not even paying attention to work already. She was at lost. Shocked.

Well, who wouldn’t?

Imagine if you yourself, who had lived your life in the orphanage and just got the chance to live alone when you were legal, suddenly found out that you, have you last family living around the town, how would you feel?

I bet, SHOCKED is even an understatement for your feelings because it isn’t. You won’t be shocked. You will be afraid. Scared. Terrified.

And yes, that is exactly how Jaeun feels right now.

What’s worse is that the ‘last family’ she has only gave her a letter. No, a note. A freaking note telling her to go to a darn restaurant at 6pm.

Who would know if that person is just tricking her?

Jaeun shook her head as she pondered on the thing she would do.

Would she go?

But what if that someone is playing tricks on her?

What if that someone eventually has a bad intention on her and do something murderous and terrifying on her?

She sighed. She is getting more confused by the minute. Everytime she thinks she would go, she would think of the worst case scenario.

On the other hand, what if the sender of the note is really her last family?

What if she doesn’t go and she’ll lose that one chance to meet her last family forever?

Wouldn’t that hurt more? Losing the only living family you have?

Wouldn’t that make you regret forever?

Jaeun shut her eyes forcefully.

“Hey, what is wrong with you?” She heard that one voice that makes her heart skip a beat.

She immediately hid the note under the counter and smiled at L.

“Oh, nothing.” She replied.

L gave her a look. Sure, he knows that she is not telling the truth. He knows that she is hiding something from him. But he didn’t dare say or ask more. Well, he thinks that Jaeun still has her own privacy.

He nodded. “Okay.” He replied as he flashed Jaeun his heart – melting smile.

Jaeun stared at him, dumbfounded. Why does she act this way when L is around? She couldn’t help but blush in front of him. She couldn’t help but feel so happy when she sees his face.

And now, her worries all vanished. She had temporarily forgotten her dilemma on the small note.

“W-what are you doing here?” She stuttered. Hell, she couldn’t even talk straight when she is in front of him. Not until last night. When she had finally realized that she is in loved with him.

L smirked and placed his chin on the palm of his hand. “Nothing. I just want to see you.” He beamed naturally but Jaeun couldn’t help but feel so overwhelmed. She couldn’t help but feel these butterflies in her stomach.

Tsk. This better be good.

Jaeun rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” She tried to suppress her blush.

L laughed at her. “Whatever.” He mimicked her and rolled his eyes as well.

Jaeun glared at her. “Why don’t you just order?” She demanded.

L chuckled and nodded. “Okay. Okay. How about I order…” He tapped his chin and looked at the menu. “You?” He finished.

Jaeun raised her brow and gave him a pointed look. “What?” She asked fiercely but she was dying inside. She was dying of sweetness.  “Sorry. I’m not on the menu.” She replied as she looked away, blushing, what else?

L smiled as he saw how Jaeun was trying to suppress her feelings in front of him. The more he thinks about it, the more he likes her.

“Okay. I was kidding.” He beamed. “Macchiato.” He replied.

Jaeun looked at him with a brow raised. All she could think of Macchiato is when she accidentally spilled it on him on the first day.

She imagined how mad he was back then. He hated her to death. And she did as well.

But hey, what are they now?

More than friends but less than lovers.

Jaeun couldn’t help but crack a smile as she punched his order in.

L watched her. “Why are you smiling on your own again?” He asked.

Jaeun immediately suppressed that smile on her face and glared at him. “Nothing. Who said I am smiling?” She asked, innocently.

L smiled and shook his head. “Come on. Bring my Macchiato faster.” He beamed as he walked to his table.

Jaeun smiled. Damn. Who knew she would be this in love of him?

L looked at Jaeun who is approaching his way now. She is coming his way. With his Macchiato, of course.

To everyone else, Jaeun might look really plain. Plain Jane. No amusing thing. An orphan, a poor girl. Just an ordinary intelligent girl.

Well, that was what L had thought in the first place. He thought she was just a plain Jane. But now, hell. He wouldn’t think of her that way.

Because right now, Kwon Jaeun is L’s happiness.

No one could even think of how important she is to him right now. She is the most precious girl on earth. She has become his life. She is the only one.

If only he was the only one for her as well.

Well, that is, for sure. Because the way he watches her when she looks at him, he can feel it. She is getting there.

Getting to where he is at right now.

In love.

“Here.” Jaeun gave him his order.

L smiled and sat properly. “Thanks.” He beamed.

Jaeun bowed and smiled back. “Call me when you need me, SIR.” She emphasized.

L chuckled and nodded. “Okay, WAITRESS. Go.” He retorted.

Jaeun nodded and went away.

L smiled as he watched her walk away then turned to his Macchiato. He was about to take a sip when he saw something on the floor. A note. A small white note.

He narrowed his eyes on it before picking it up.

“Meet me at Diamond Restaurant tonight. 6PM. I will be waiting, in case you want to know who sent you this. See you, Sister. – Your last family”

L raised his brow as he read the content. “Weird. Is this a stalker?” He mumbled as he ignored the paper and continued to drink his Macchiato, drifting his thoughts back to Jaeun again.

Oh, L. How did you fall so deeply like this?

Mina looked at the anxious Jaeun in the counter. “What’s wrong?” She asked.

Jaeun looked at her in despair. “Mina, I lost the note.” She said almost crying.

Mina widened her eyes in shock. She might not ask Jaeun what her decision is but she knows that no matter what, that note is still important. “What? Where did you place it?” She asked beginning to panic as well.

Jaeun shut her eyes forcefully. “I placed it here.” She pointed at the counter. “But it was gone.” She added, panicking.

Mina took a deep breath. “Relax, Jae. Think of what you did after you placed that note here.” She suggested.

Jaeun stopped panicking and began to think. “Okay. I was reading the note. No I was staring at it, thinking if I would go to that restaurant or what. Then, L came. I hid it here and talked to him afterwards. He ordered. I made the order. I placed the tray here. On this exact spot and…” Her eyes widened. “THE NOTE MUST HAVE STUCK ON TO THE TRAY!” She figured it out and started looking on the floor.

Mina helped her search for it as well.

Jaeun decided to go to L’s table. She was hoping that L saw that. Or else, she is done today. She would never see her so-called ‘last family’.

“Oh. I haven’t called you yet, Waitress.” L teased as soon as he saw her there.

Jaeun rolled her eyes and began searching under the table. “Aish! Where is that?!” She is getting frustrated.

L stared at her busily searching for something on the floor. “What are you searching?” He asked.

Jaeun sighed and sat in front of him. “A note.” She replied. She doesn’t want him to know about it but hell, she thinks she needs an extra help now to find that note.

L raised his brow. “Is that a small white note?” he asked.

Jaeun’s eyes widened. “Yes! Did you see it?” She asked.

L nodded. “This?” He raised the note.

Jaeun smiled. “YES! That’s it!” She beamed happily as she took the note. “Oh my gosh! I thought I would lose this!” She beamed as she stared at the note.

L looked at her. “What is that note about? It sound stalker-ish to me.” He stated.

Jaeun glared at him. But sighed. “Yeah.” She admitted.

L scanned her face. “So, you have a family?” He asked.

Jaeun nodded. “Well, if this person’s not playing games with me. I have. Technically.” She replied.

L nodded. “Are you going?” He asked.

She smiled weakly. “I don’t know. Maybe? Maybe not?” She sounded unsure.

L observed her actions. He knows that Jaeun longs to have a family. She wants it. She misses it. So he thinks that even if she sounded so unsure today, she will go. She will go. He knows she will.

Jaeun sighed and smiled. “Okay. I’ll be working now. Thanks, Myungsoo.” She said as she stood up and walked back to the counter.

L smiled. “Myungsoo? That’s new.” He said to himself with heart beating really fast, liking the way Jaeun said his name.

Jaeun walked to her apartment. It is 4:30 PM.

“1 hour and 30 minutes.” She said to herself.  “Should I go?” She asked again.

She threw herself on her bed and thought of the pros and cons of going and not going. Perhaps, if she goes, she would either get pranked or get a new family. If she doesn’t, it’s either she save herself or lose her last family forever.

She sighed. “It’s better to get pranked than to lose someone forever.” She decided as she went and prepared to face this person.

Jaeun is standing in front of the Diamond Restaurant right now with heart racing really fast. She is one hell of a nervous girl. She doesn’t know what her fate would be. But no matter what it is, she would still go.

It is now or never.

Jaeun took a deep breath before stepping inside the restaurant.

There were a lot of people.

Hell, how would she know who the sender is?

She doesn’t even know if he’s a boy or she’s a girl! Damn. She wouldn’t play Running Man here, would she?

She looked around and decided to trust her instinct. She went and sat at an empty spot near the window as she observed everyone in the restaurant.

She looked to her left and saw a couple all lovey dovey. She looked at the guy and tsk. Please. “L is better looking.” She mumbled under her breath.

She doesn’t know but everytime she sees a man, she would always compare that man to L and guess what? L would always win.

Of course, L is the number 1 guy for Jaeun. Most daebak guy.

She shook her head and looked to her front. She saw this family. A father, mother and a daughter. She smiled to herself as she imagined herself, her mom and her dad the way they were before.

Darn, she misses them so much. She couldn’t help a tear from escaping her eyes.

“I am glad you came, Kwon Jaeun.”

A man spoke behind her.

Suddenly, Jaeun was stoned on her spot. She couldn’t even look behind her.

Here he is.

The man walked in front of her and sat across her.

Jaeun stared at him, flabbergasted and dumbfounded. She is staring at a man who she thinks is in his mid-20s, in a suit and looking really decent.

Jaeun gulped. She doesn’t know what to do.

Finally, he is here. Her last family.

He smiled at her. “I know you are shocked. I am shocked as well.” He spoke again. “But hey, I am your brother.” He introduced.

Jaeun didn’t utter a word.

He extended his hand to Jaeun. “I am Kwon Jiyong.”

Jaeun could just faint right now.
