I stood inside the assembly hall, waiting for the others to arrive. I knew they weren’t interested, but our gathering was of such great importance that we didn’t have any choice but to attend. Since they couldn’t do anything about it, everyone, except for me that is, chose to come in late. That’s the only thing they could do to get back at the Oracle Minister whom they hated too much especially Kai. He was an uptight man anyway who restricted everyone with the traditions of Korinthia and Elyxo itself. I couldn’t blame him. No one can. He has to live up to his reputation as the chosen delegate to the Oracles. No one else can communicate with them but him so we had to be thankful…somehow. 

I don’t know why, but he seemed to favor me and Sehun, the Wind Noble, among all the other heirs. We didn’t like him, every one of us. We never did, not even when we were young. It’s as if he’s always there, breathing down our necks. That was what Kai had always thought. That’s what we’ve observed, too, but he was just more vocal about it than us. The pressure was on all of us, but it didn’t beat into our psyche the way it did to the youngest heir – Sehun.

He had just turned eighteen this year and yet it was as if the fact that we were given the responsibility to fulfill the prophecy made him silent and reserved. Well, it has gotten worse for him since it was announced that we should all gather at the capital and listen to the prophecy. Poor Sehun wouldn’t be able to enjoy his youth due to the tasks we had to search for an unknown maiden. We haven’t really heard of the prophecy itself, but Kyungsoo seemed to know a lot about it and as our friend, he told us about it.

I knew exactly where they were at the moment. Chan Yeol should still be asleep until now while Baekhyun would be fussing about him. Most probably, Kai would be busy gathering everyone, jumping from one place to the other to make fun of the others. Kyungsoo had told me about his meeting with his grandmother who would be leaving that day and Sehun will definitely be somewhere far away, probably the countryside where Kai would eventually transport to so he could get to the capital. 

Those lads were stubborn ones. Even when we were children, we’d always manage to get into trouble for what one did so as much as possible, the minister wanted to keep us apart, but that’s just impossible with Kai around. He can easily gather us all. He’s always been our unifying force. I wonder what it’s like to go wherever you want and return to where you’ve come from without any trouble.

Baekhyun and Chan Yeol, well, they’ve always been joined to the hip. I guess they meshed well as their powers were quite related. They were quite a handful, especially Chan Yeol who was volatile and ironically naughty. Kyungsoo had always been behaved. He’s quite slow-moving compared to the others. Since his grandmother raised him, he was quite traditional and haughty at times, but he looks after the others just as well.

I didn’t clash with any of them even if I was the Water Noble, but I seem to douse all the fun when I get serious. I tend to be in tune with their thoughts most of the time, except when they feel like making mischievous deeds. I hated getting into trouble, mainly because I felt responsible for each and every one of them. I’ve always been the one they looked up to so I have to live up to their expectations.

I stared at my hands, generating steady globes of water then making them disappear again when suddenly, I heard the familiar sound, like the loud and sudden whooshing of air in a confined place. It was Kai. I turned around to face him and apparently, he was with Sehun.

“Good morning!” Kai greeted me brightly, flashing a toothy smile at me.

“Where are the others?” I asked, dropping his greeting.
