Too Late to Regret
SeverelyMyungsoo took down Yujin’s bright pink luggage bag and placed it on the floor, he opened Yujin’s closet and started packing her clothes inside.
Myungsoo had decided together with Yujin’s parents that he was going to bring Yujin over to America so that she could recuperate over there without anyone disturbing her.
“Sir, I’ve brought the juice.” The maid said, placing a tray with a glass of orange juice on the table.
“Ahjumma, did that guy come back again today?” Myungsoo asked, referring to Daehyun.
“No sir.”
“Good.” Myungsoo nodded.
He was the one who told the maid to tell Daehyun that Yujin was already dead and he also packed up all of Yujin’s stuff that was related to Daehyun.
Myungsoo sat by the side of Yujin’s bed, it had been a week since the accident and the bandages had already been taken off Yujin’s head, she was now wearing a beanie.
Myungsoo lifted Yujin’s arm and started to wipe it with a warm towel.
“Yujin ah…I know I should ask you before I make any decisions but I want you to know that I’m doing my best for you.” He told her.
“You have to leave here so you can recuperate, I don’t want you to get hurt again…I want to protect you…I hope you understand.”
Daehyun’s house was a mess, there were trash strewn everywhere, empty cup noodles, wrappers and empty milk cartons.
Daehyun was sprawled out on the floor sleeping, wearing just a singlet and boxers. He almost looked like he was dead.
There was a loud knock on the door as Daehyun was woken up from his deep slumber, his phone was at the corner of the room with the battery taken out. He probably didn’t want anyone to disturb him.
“Who is it?” Daehyun called out sleepily, his hair was pointing in all directions.
“Daehyun ssi!!! It’s the landlord!! You haven’t given me this month’s rent!!” the landlord’s voice streamed through Daehyun’s locked door.
Daehyun frowned as he pushed himself up from the ground, dragging his feet towards the door.
“Daehyun ssi!! If you’re not going to pay up…I’m going to have to make you leave!”
“Ahjumma! I’m sorry my rent’s late…I don’t have enough cash now…can you give me a few more days?” Daehyun pleaded, sticking his head out from behind the door.
“Aishhh! This kid!” the landlord scowled.
“Mian….just a few more days I promise!” Daehyun gave her an apologetic smile.
“Since you look like you’re having some problems now…I’ll give you until tomorrow morning” The landlord finished.
“Ye…” Daehyun nodded, closing the front door.
He really needed to pick himself up and start finding a job soon before he gets kicked out of his house.
Daehyun sighed as he walked towards the chest of drawers at the corner of the room; he had made the top sort of a small altar for Yujin.
There was the photo frame with the picture of Yujin and himself at graduation, at the sides were two scented candles and he had also placed the diary and the red ruby heart necklace he wanted to give Yujin on their sixth year anniversary in front of the photo frame.
“Yujin ah….I need to go out and get myself a job…I’ll buy you flowers on the way back okay?” Daehyun said to the picture frame.
Daehyun smiled as he reached out and touched the ring around his neck. It was Yujin’s couple ring…he had decided to put it on a chain and wear it around his neck so he would always feel Yujin close to him.
Daehyun adjusted his tangled hair in the mirror before going out the door, he froze in the spot just as he pulled the door open. He had been staying in his dark apartment for the past few days, he had to take a while to adjust to the bright sunlight.
First, Daehyun decided to try his luck at the café he used to work at…he only had until tomorrow morning so he needed to get the money the fastest way possible.
Daehyun took a deep breath as he entered the café, after Yujin’s incident he had become unusually reserved and he didn’t really want to see familiar faces or talk to people he knew.
Daehyun spotted his female colleague at the counter, he strolled towards the side of the counter and stopped there.
“Psstt!” he whispered, trying to get her attention.
She was busy serving the customers and didn’t really notice Daehyun there.
“Psst! Pssstt!!” Daehyun continued making noises.
The girl frowned as she looked towards Daehyun, her eyes softened as she realized it was him.
“Daehyun ssi!” she exclaimed, walking over to him.
“Could you…come out for a while, I need to talk to you.”
The girl nodded before telling someone to cover for her while she was gone.
“Daehyun ssi! Why did you suddenly quit!?” The girl and Daehyun were outside of the café.
“It’s a long story….I just have some problems right now…but that’s not the point.”
“Do you think I can speak to the manager?”
“The manager? Why?”
“I….want to return the uniform and…my pay before I quit…I was wondering if I can get paid?”
The girl sighed. “Follow me, I’ll bring you to the manager’s office.”
Daehyun nodded as he quickly followed the girl, if he could get paid for the days he worked before he quit..he would be able to pay the rent!
