Some People Just Don’t Get It

Gyuri stared stoically at the screen. To any passersby she would seem to look normal, well, normal in terms of the young captain. Regardless of her exterior, her mind was in turmoil. She read the government file on Choi Siwon and felt an overwhelming desire to protect Sunghee from this man. From the report, she could see just how dangerous he has the potential to be.

Her inner war was between whether or not her need to keep Sunghee safe was stemmed from her overpowering sense of duty or…something else. Her duty always coming second (her first priority being Hyomin) made her feel obligated to inform Sunghee of just how dangerous her fiancé is.

She slammed the laptop closed and returned it to Luna’s desk before exiting the building, the same stoic expression on her face.

As she neared the diner, she felt something tugging at her chest. It was an uncomfortable feeling and she wished for it to disappear.

When she crossed the street to the diner, someone, who looked oddly like the mayor, bumped into her with surprising force. She shrugged it off because there were more important matters to deal with at the current moment in time. Matters like Choi Siwon being inside the diner she was about to walk into.

She entered the small diner, eyes fixed on the booth that Siwon occupied. Her eyes zeroed in on him like an eagle, her hand instinctively hovering over her firearm. Slowly, she made her way to the booth he occupied-

“Captain Park! How nice to see you.” Gyuri’s hands dropped to her sides. The Mayor was waving her over to sit in the chair across from her. She could see Siwon turn in his seat to look at her, a glare fixated on his features.

“It’s nice to see you as well Madam Mayor.” Gyuri said cordially. Her eyes casually drifting to Siwon.

BoA chuckled and took a sip of her tea. “You can drop the formalities Gyuri, no one would be the wiser.”

“But-”

“Gyuri? What are you doing here?”

Gyuri’s eyes slowly traveled up to meet Sunghee’s, breathing became more challenging and the uncomfortable feeling returned.

BoA didn’t miss the faint pink appearing on the Captain’s cheeks when the waitress showed up. Finally! Something I can about!

Gyuri, I didn’t know you have a girlfriend.” BoA said in a scandalized tone. Sunghee’s face brightened until she looked like a tomato while Gyuri’s face contorted into confusion, pink still apparent on her cheeks.

“Madam Mayor, if you’ll excuse me.” Gyuri stood and nodded her head to the Mayor before lightly gripping Sunghee’s wrist and dragging her out the front door.

Once outside, Gyuri unconsciously kept her hold on the younger’s wrist. “I came today to warn you that you’re fiancé is a very dangerous man.”

Sunghee pulled her arm out of Gyuri’s light hold. “What gives you the right to come and insult my future husband like that!?”

Gyuri’s face reflected hurt, something it had never done before, but she quickly recovered her stoic gaze. “It is my duty to inform you that he has killed many people before. It is my duty to keep the citizens safe.”

“No! It’s your duty to keep the affluent citizens safe, not me!”

“He was in special forces! He could-”

“I know!”

Gyuri stared dumbfounded at the waitress. “I know he was in special forces, I know he’s killed people before. He told me a year after we started dating.”

“I won’t let him hurt you.”

“That’s enough Captain Park.” Siwon had seen the Captain drag his fiancée out of the diner, he had also seen the argument. “ I think it’s time for you to leave.”

Gyuri glared at Siwon as she began walking back to where she had come from. Along the way, her cell phone buzzed alerting her of a text message.

Meet me at my office in twenty minutes. –BoA

Yuri had forced Yoona to stay by her side while they were waiting for a replacement to keep the Im safe to arrive. The two had to be supervised by a nurse in order to prevent Yuri’s stitches from reopening again.

“Where is that kid?” Yuri gritted out, hurt flashing across Yoona’s face.

“Are you that eager to get rid of me?” Yoona crossed her arms over her chest and prepared to stand up but was stopped by a harsh glare from the nurse.

“I’d love for you to stay forever, but you have a job that you can’t miss and I won’t let you miss.” Yoona was going to protest, but after thinking through what Yuri had said, she yielded.

“Do you know what happened to my phone?” As soon as Yuri asked, Yoona rifled through her jacket and produced the phone. She cautiously handed it to Yuri, watching the nurse glare at her and ready to pounce if anything happened.

Yuri searched through her contacts for the name she was looking for. Once she found the name she pressed the call button and slowly raised it to her ear, feeling slight discomfort when she raised it completely. She settled on putting the phone on speaker and having it rest where it could do no damage.

The two room occupants looked slightly bewildered, but thought nothing of it. After four rings, the person finally answered.

Sergeant?”

“Detective Park.” Yuri said in a firm tone.

Yes Sergeant?”

“Get your to my hospital room in ten minutes or I will tell your mother about the time you showed up at my house drunk!”

By the silence on the other end of the line, Yuri smiled victoriously. Yoona looked at her, jealousy flashing across her features.

“Relax, she’s the baby of the team. We about everything.”

Yoona; however, did not relax. She didn’t want a baby looking after her, she wanted Yuri.

Tiffany was walking to the diner when a short girl sprinted past her, nearly tackling her over had she not been gifted with killer reflexes. Literally. The rest of the walk there had been uneventful, leaving her with only her thoughts.

Her thoughts primarily revolving around a certain Lieutenant, and also about her mission that seemed to never end. Both seemed to intertwine with each other in ways she never wanted them to, she knew someone was going to get hurt, but she didn’t care.

She didn’t care because she would protect Jessica, the same way she has been since the agents assigned to protect the Jung sisters had failed. The oldest of the sisters could be really oblivious sometimes, in the past five years there had been numerous attempts on her life (all had been thwarted). The Lieutenant didn’t even know that she had one of the best assassins in the world trying to kill her, but Tiffany did, and she had the scars to prove it.

And recently, the assassin was becoming more and more restless, hence Tiffany taking the marketing job to be with the Lieutenant where she’s most vulnerable. So far it was working and the assassin seemed to have backed off.

The door to the diner chimed, signaling that she had arrived. Her eyes narrowed as she spotted the Mayor. She didn’t hate the Mayor, she hated the woman who looked like the Mayor. Before the Mayor could see her glaring, she averted her gaze only to land on an even worse sight. Choi Siwon, the closest contact to her target, aside from the assassin.

Minho’s sister was right by the door, looking upset about something. She noticed the agent and immediately recognized her, “Miyoung! Are you here to see Minho?”

She nodded her head, smiling that dazzling eye smile of hers. Victoria’s cheeks tinged pink before she stuttered out, “H-he’s out back.”

Tiffany placed her hand on the older woman’s bicep, trailing her fingers across the skin. She smiled and thanked the waitress before going where Minho was, smirking at her flirtation skills. They still seemed to work, just not on Jessica.

When she exited the building, she wiped the smirk off of her face. “Sup Minho.”

He responded without looking at her, still throwing away more trash that had accumulated. “I take it that the Lieutenant took the bait?”

“Like a fish,” Tiffany muttered, crossing her arms and staring at the ground, “she thinks I’m with the treasury, just as we planned.”

“And how are you?” He asked with concern, he still had some empathy left from having an actual childhood.

She leaned against the wall, changing her line of sight to stare at Minho. “I want to talk to Henry, where is he?”

“You know as much about his location as I do.” Minho dumped the last bag of trash into the dumpster, thinking better of placing a comforting hand on the younger woman’s shoulder, just think of the bacteria.

“She hates me, she can’t stand being near me. I-I don’t know what to do anymore.”

“She doesn’t hate you, she just needs time. I suggest practicing abstinence until she talks to you.”

“You know, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you were seeing someone.”

“Well if I didn’t know any better I’d think that you’re in love.”

Tiffany didn’t respond to that, Minho took it as his answer that his partner was in fact in love. He also didn’t respond to the accusation that he was dating anyone, he was but no one needed to know about it.

**

BoA had left shortly after Tiffany entered the diner, the ride to her office was a quick one. When she stepped inside, Gyuri was already there, standing at attention as the Mayor entered.

“Take a seat Captain. We have much to discuss.” BoA said as she crossed the threshold to her desk, sitting in the Italian leather chair. The Captain sat, as instructed.

“As you know, the 30 and Under City Ball is coming up. I hate to ask this of you but you’re the only one I trust on the force.” Gyuri silently absorbed the information.

“I want you to be in charge of keeping those occupants secure, more and more threats are showing up and I want the citizens to be safe. Who better to do it than you?”

“I won’t disappoint you ma’am. I’ll need the staff detail and blueprints of the venue.” Gyuri was then handed a folder, it appeared as though the Mayor didn’t anticipate Gyuri to refuse. That was something that Gyuri didn’t mind in the slightest. Gyuri opened to say something but BoA cut her off with a knowing smile, “Donor list is included as well as the invitation list.”

Gyuri nodded, stood up, saluted, and exited the room.

**

Secluded in one of the alleyways near City Hall, a woman who looked oddly like the Mayor was talking on her cell phone.

Ana, the Mayor is getting a little too deep for my tastes. I found her looking into the files about our dear little Siwon. Would you be a dear and take care of it?”

“Of course, sir. Any specifications?” The woman spoke with an apathetic tone.

Just don’t kill the woman, I actually quite like her running things around here.”

“I understand.”

Good, it’ll be a good distraction from tracking down Jung.”

Gyul and Sunghee sure have it nice. BoA and Anna too. LunToria as well. Very beautiful! But... who is Siwon with now? I was like, "Mwo?!" when I read the last line.
