Welcome Home

The Life of the Sixth Member

"Is this enough?" You titled your head to the side, contemplating about the look. "Maybe it's not. Should we add more?"

Joy went to your side and did the same thing, humming in thought. "I think it already looks great. If you add more it might be too crowded."

You thought about it a little bit more before nodding. "You're right," you turned towards the second tallest girl in the group, a nervous smile on your face. "I just want everything to be perfect."

Joy immediately smiled and took your figure in her arms, warmth instantly enveloping you. "You know she'll love anything you give her, right?"

"I know," you sighed while closing your eyes in contentment. "I just want her to feel welcomed and at home. She's been away for too long."

Joy squeezed you a little tighter before pulling back slightly from the hug so she could look at you in the eyes. "Eli, I know that by us being here she'll feel at home already."

You looked into at her eyes for a little bit more before sighing in defeat, though Joy detected the slight relief in it too. "You're right." She knew how much you've been waiting for the moment Wendy comes home and she knew how you felt like you had to make everything look perfect. What Wendy needed, though, was her members and she was set.

You and the rest of the girls, minus Irene, were decorating the rented house Wendy's parents were staying at for the duration of her recovery. Wendy would be staying here some days of the week for her physio but she'd be back at the dorm on the other days. Irene and the parents were picking Wendy up while you were on welcoming party duty, which you took very seriously.

You wanted your angel of a sister to feel loved as much as possible.

Plus, it was her birthday so you would be celebrating that as well. She'd be thrilled to know this was all about her and that she's very much loved.

Seulgi suddenly gasped which made all of you turned towards her in slight alarm. "Seungwan just told me they're near already. We have everything, right?" She proceeded to look around the room, making all of you do the same.

Honestly, at times like this would people really take all of you as sisters with how similar sometimes you all act.

You took a deep breath before releasing it and addressing all of your sisters. "Right, we have everything in place. Right now, we just need to hold up the sign and hold her birthday cake.

You turned around and walked towards the fridge before taking out the cake and closing the fridge again, walking back towards where your sisters were. "Yeri-ah, Seulgi-unnie, would you do the honours of holding the cake?"

They both lit up and looked at each other before looking at you again, excitement painted on both their faces. "Of course!"

You gestured for Joy to hold the other end of the banner after they got a hold of the cake. Joy took her side of the cloth before leaning closer to you whilst everyone was facing the entrance.

"You had us do this because we're the tallest ones, right?"

You smirked and gave her wink, her rolling her eyes playfully in response. She stood slightly away and all of you waited with bated breath for the sound of a car coming and doors opening.

It was almost her birthday and Wendy was still at the hospital; her fate, whether she could go home or not, was still in the air. She didn't want to be too sad about it but she couldn't help it as she'd always celebrated her birthday for the past seven almost eight years with her members. She was mulling over the fact that she might not be able to celebrate this year when you and Irene made your way into the room, knocking before opening the door to Wendy on her bed and her mother on the sofa in the corner, reading a book.

They both looked up as you made your way inside.

"Eli-ah, Joohyun-ah!" Wendy's mother smiled as she put away her book and got up from the sofa, arms open for a hug.

"Eomma!" You ran to her and engulfed her tinier figure into your tall one, the chuckles that came from Wendy and Irene not escaping your ears.

"How's my baby been?" Wendy's mother has always treated you as her own, always tending to you whenever she was visiting, aside from tending to her own daughter. No one knew why that was but you welcomed the love all the same.

"I've been good!" Your eyes were warm but she noticed the mischievous glint in your eyes, and she later realised it was regarding her daughter.

You let her go from your embrace and went to Wendy's side as Irene was greeting her next.

"How have you been, Unnie?" You took your older sister in your arms, wrapping her in your warmth.

She closed her eyes in bliss as she had missed your hugs. She can't wait until she can go home and get all the cuddles she'd wanted from you and the rest of the members.

"I've been good, I just want to go home already."

You pulled back from the hug to give her a warm smile. "Anytime soon, Unnie." You tried to change the subject. "It's almost your birthday! You're becoming so old, Unnie, oh my God!" You couldn't help but and she fell for it, slapping your arm and pouting adorably.

"Hey! That's rude."

You giggled happily and Wendy just had to follow suit, your happiness infectious. Times like this she was glad that you got to be slightly childish and show your aegyo that you claimed to not have. Well, she was the same but the point still stands.

"What do you want to do for your birthday, Unnie?"

You knew what she wanted deep down but it wasn't up to you so you tried to ask for her opinion. "Nothing, I just want to spend time with all of you and maybe go home, if the doctors see fit."

You and Irene looked at each other and give knowing looks, already agreeing on doing something special for the main vocalist. "Well, even if you can't be home yet, we'll celebrate with you, Unnie."

You kissed the top of her head lovingly. "We'll always be here with you, remember? Always."

Wendy leaned her body on yours and just stayed there, relishing on the touch. You wrapped an arm around her so she'd feel more comfortable as you exchanged looks with the other two women in the room. Your heart hurt for your sister and you vowed to make her day so special she wouldn't be as sad anymore.

"I know. Thank you, dongsaeng-ah." She looked up to look at you in the eyes, gratefulness clearly painted in them. You gave her your warm smile and her forehead a kiss in response.

You could hear the car pulling up the driveway and doors opening, which made your eyes widened slightly. You took deep breaths to calm your racing heart, nervousness being replaced with the excitement of welcoming home your member.

As the front door opened, you all beamed and practically yelled, "Happy birthday, Wendy!"

When she came into sight her eyes were wide in surprise and a hand was on her chest with opened in amazement. "Wow, this is amazing!"

Irene pushed her wheelchair further in as she also looked around to take in the sight. At one point your gazes locked and she gave you her soft smile, making you reply with your special one as you took in the love and pride painted in her eyes.

The two holding the cake went over to Wendy and lit up the candles. "Make a wish, Wan-ah!" Seulgi commanded her, making her chuckle.

She closed her eyes for a little bit before opening them again and blowing her candles, the rest of you clapping happily. She looked around as happy tears made their way into her eyes, smiling so warmly to her family. "Thank you so much for making my birthday special."

You and Joy went closer to her still holding the banner. You gave her the warmest smile she'd seen yet. "Of course, Unnie. You deserve everything you have and more."

The members pretended to complain over the words and Wendy's parents laughed, whilst you grinned cheekily at the angel. She shook her head in amusement but thanked you nonetheless, you nodding in reply.

"Well," Joy intervened. "Let's get this party started!"

All of you whooped in excitement and proceeded the event, eating good food (now that Wendy can chew) and laughing over jokes, just overall having a great time.

She looked around the room to take in the sight of her family, a small but genuine smile made its way to her lips. Wendy was definitely glad she finally was home again.

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry for being so absent these past few months or even a year. I've been dealing with a lot and every time I open a new chapter to write, I always lose the creativity T_T I'm so sorry. Recently, I've just lost an uncle who loved me very much and I've been dealing with the loss. Thank you for always reaching out to me and waiting for a new chapter, I promise I will try to write soon. I also apologise for not replying to your comments, the website is not allowing me to do so I'm not sure why so I just write it here. I really appreciate all of you and I hope we can be here enjoying the stories I write for a long time. Thank you and I hope I'll see you soon ❤️
