A Nice Surprise

The Life of the Sixth Member

You've always loved music. When you were little, you were always fascinated when someone was playing an instrument that you would stare at them so intensely, your parents would take pictures to show you when you were older. It was a running joke that you were so serious during those moments you would be a music critic when you're older. When you ended up moving to Korea to train, you got lonely and stressed and didn't really know how to express your emotions so you asked your parents if you could buy a guitar and learn how to play it yourself.

Turned out it was a good thing. Once you had that guitar you looked up videos on how to play it and practised every day, getting quite good at it Irene and Seulgi were kind of surprised. You were a natural.

"Wow, Eli-ah, you got so good at playing it!" Irene commented one day and you blushed, embarrassed by the attention. You were still getting used to being looked after by two older sisters so you were still not used to the attention they give almost 24/7. You're not complaining though.

"Thank you, Hyun-unnie." You gave her a blinding smile and she literally squealed, pinching your cheek.

"You're adorable. Please play me another song!"

That became your routine and when Wendy joined in, you learnt even more from her. She's basically a musical genius in your books so you wanted to learn as much as possible and she practically beamed with excitement when you told her, practising and guiding you every day. Today, your skills had immensely improved and you always play as much as you could, more so when you're stressed or feeling emotions you didn't know how to let out. You remembered a moment with Seulgi, back when you were a trainee, stressing over debuting and training.

You were feeling more agitated that you'd like so you took your guitar and went outside, sitting on the cold but comfortable floor. You were strumming your guitar on the balcony of the dorm and a calm melody came through your fingers. Not long after you heard light footsteps and a smile appeared on your lips but you continued playing, knowing the person loved it when you do.

"What's up, Unnie?" You asked at one point, surprising Seulgi that's been standing at the door behind you.

She came to your side. "How did you know it was me?"

You looked up, giving her a warm smile. "I just know, Unnie. Wanna sing and I play?"

An excited smile appeared on her face and she nodded enthusiastically, making you laugh. Your sister's too cute for her own good.

"Okay, have a song in mind?"

She hummed, contemplating a good song to sing. "How about you play and I'll make up some lyrics? Maybe once we debut we can publish it."

You knew she was joking but there's an underlying tone of hope in her voice. "Good idea, Unnie," you smiled encouragingly at her, knowing her desire to debut. "Just remember the lyrics or we won't be able to publish it."

She laughed sheepishly, shoving your shoulder in retaliation and you just laughed out loud in response.

"Right, ready?" Seeing her nod you played whatever melody was in mind, letting your creativity flow. That night you ended up creating a mellow song, perfect for calm nights like this one.

Remembering that night you smiled, getting an idea for your fifth debut anniversary. A big event with the fans to celebrate it was coming up and you wanted to showcase your skill and give your sisters a nice gift. You wouldn't be here without them so you wanted to let them know how much you appreciate the relationship you all have, the support, and the immense love you feel for them.

Yeri and Wendy were the most known ones as the writer and composer of the group, so this was something that would surprise the fans as well. The members had let it slip that you were good at playing the guitar and once they heard that the fans freaked out, begging you to show your skills. This was the perfect time to do that too.

You've been practising and perfecting your song for days now, wanting everything to be as perfect as it could be. You've tried to practice whenever the members weren't in the dorm or you'd go to the company, booking a whole practice room to yourself. The girls had wondered what you were up to but you told them it's a surprise for the fifth anniversary so they left you to it, with the exception of a pouty Irene that needed a bit more persuasion. She was adamant on finding out what you were doing behind their backs but you begged her to let you keep this one secret, only letting out that it was for them and the fans. She finally relented with the condition that you would give her all the cuddles she wanted, whenever she wanted it.

You added that with a nice lunch and the smile you got that day was the most radiant you'd ever seen.

When the day came you couldn't help but feel excited but nervous at the same time that your legs couldn't stop bouncing, Wendy having to put a hand on top of it to calm it down.

"Liza, what are you so nervous about?" She couldn't help but worry and it made you calm down slightly, giving her a small smile.

"I just hope you guys would like my surprise and the fans would be proud of me."

Hearing that she frowned, bringing you into her hug. "We're always proud of you, Liza, and the fans are too. Don't worry too much about it, okay?"

Yeri, worried about her older sister, listened in to the conversation. "Unnie, we're grateful that you want to surprise us with something," she piped in, coming to your side and hugging both of you. "We love you and the fans do too, we're always proud of you please don't doubt that."

Listening to their words of encouragement made you feel better and you could feel your anxiousness slowly slipping away.

"Thank you," you closed your eyes in relief. "I love you too. I hope you like the surprise."

Wendy let go of the hug which caused you and Yeri to do the same. She gave you a determined look to show how sure she was. "Knowing you, we would, Liza."

The event started and you had a blast, playing games and listening to the fans laughing cheerily. Near the end of the event, the MC cued you in for your surprise so you got up to go backstage and you could hear the confusion of both the members and the fans.

"Where is she going?" Irene asked, hating she didn't know what you were up to but having a clue that it had something to do with your surprise.

"Okay, Eli is going to perform something for the members and the fans." Hearing that the fans cheered loudly and the members gasped, not having a clue of what your surprise entailed.

You came out with your loved guitar and the fans lost their minds, screaming in delight and capturing the iconic moment through pictures and videos.

They've been waiting for this moment for almost five years now you almost felt bad.

You sat down at your chair and turned it slightly so you faced the members but the fans still could see you clearly.

"Hi everyone," you smiled cheekily, prompting another round of cheer and the members to stare confusedly at you.

"It's been five years since I've debuted and it's been one hell of a ride, sorry for the rude word," you joked making everyone chuckle. "I wanted to express how grateful I am to my members, my sisters," you faced them with tears welling up in your eyes and you knew they were about to cry too. They could vividly remember the moments they had with you during the five years and the training years before that.

"I wouldn't be here without you all, especially Joohyun-unnie and Seulgi-unnie for being my first friends," they chuckled, remembering the cute but quiet fourteen-year-old. "Thank you Wan-unnie for giving me guitar lessons and always giving me warmth, I love you," she gave you a proud but watery smile, letting her tears actually fall.

"Sooyoung-unnie, thank you for understanding me and letting me in, I could never forget our early bickers but I knew you were going to be a joy in my life, as I hope I am in yours." You gave her a teasing but warm smile, making her giggle while wiping the tear that had leaked out of her eyes away.

"Yerimmie, my little sister," you faced her and you could tell she was trying so hard to hold back her tears. "Honey it's okay to cry, don't hold them back," you gave her a warm smile. "Thank you for being a figure I never knew I needed in my life, and I knew we had our issues but thank you for understanding and always being there for me."

With that she finally cried, getting up from her chair and running to hug you. The fans cooed, also crying with you all.

"Aw, Sweetheart," you cooed, hugging her as best as you could with the guitar in between you. "I haven't even started yet."

That made everyone laugh. After Yeri kissed your cheek and got back in her seat you faced the fans completely, trying to embed their faces in your memory.

You were going to remember this moment for the rest of your life.

"I want to say that I'm thankful for all of your support, physically, emotionally, financially," they all laughed out loud and one of them screamed 'you're worth it!', making you laugh and grin. "Seriously though, I wouldn't be here without your support and I love you too, I hope I have shown you enough."

"YES!" They all screamed back, making you laugh tearily.

You took a deep breath and let it go. "I wrote a song for my members," you looked at them in the eye. "And for you all, I hope you like it and know how I feel completely."

You began strumming and Seulgi gasped, knowing the familiar melody. You looked up and gave her a wink, making her giggle. The other members looked confusedly between you and her, making some of the fans laugh.

Through the song you tried to show how hard training was and how the members helped you through it, making it better. You told how there were moments that you thought about giving up but the strength from the members and the fans helped you through it, making you stronger. You were scared of showing too many emotions but you let go, singing while crying though your voice was still steady. You ended the song by saying how much you love and appreciate the people around you, especially the fans and the members.

"So thank you, for being in my life. I hope we can always be together even until later, as I love and cherish you." You strummed one last time. "Thank you for being you."

You ended the song and everyone screamed, the members all jumping from their seats to hug you at the same time. You laughed but hugged them tightly as best as you could, loving the warmth the group hug was giving you.

"Thank you, Eli-ah. We love you so much." Irene said in the name of everyone, making everyone nod in agreement.

"I love you all, so much." Your reply echoed throughout the room, still having your mic on. The fans teared up at the confession knowing how hard it's been for you.

You all hugged one last time before letting go, all of them getting back to their seats while wiping their tears away.

"Thank you for making us cry, Eli-ssi." The MC commented, making everyone laugh but agreeing all the same.

You gave her a cheeky grin. "That's why I put the surprise at the end!"

After that, throughout the last ment of the event each member kept looking back at you with love shining in their eyes, capturing the fans' attention. They finally got to see the affection each member had for each other clearly and they couldn't be happier knowing you all had each other.

At the end of the event all of you bowed to the fans, hands clasped together. You stood back up with a newfound strength to always try your best for your members and the fans.

You couldn't be happier to have all these people in your life.
