Moments with Yeri

The Life of the Sixth Member

Before Yeri joined Red Velvet, you were the one who was expected to excel in aegyo because you were the youngest in the group. However, you were the second member to despise aegyo the most, right after Wendy, so the one who was tasked to do them in interviews was Joy. As much as it amused people that the youngest actually despised aegyo, Joy was a natural so they really couldn't complain. After Yeri joined and became the new maknae, the role was passed down to her and you couldn't help but despise it even more. Yeri is cute, for sure, but her aegyo along with her nasal voice just wasn't your nicest cup of tea.

"Yeri, you are the new maknae of the group, correct?" the interviewer turned to ask her and Yeri nodded with a smile.

"Can you do an aegyo please?" Just hearing the question made yours and Wendy's faces scrunched up in distaste.

"Oh no," you put your hands so they cover your face while the rest of the group laughed at your reaction. Wendy was more polite in her disgust, only slightly grimacing in response.

"Why? What's wrong?" the interviewer couldn't help but ask.

"Wendy and Eli don't like aegyo," Irene answered for the both of you.

The interviewer nodded. "Ah, so you don't like it in general or is it just because it's Yeri doing it?"

You laughed. "I don't like it in general but with Yeri's voice, it's even worse because her voice is... just... I'm sorry maknae."

The rest of the group laughed. "It's even funnier when Yeri suddenly started doing aegyo to annoy Eli or Wendy because they would just get up and leave the room entirely," Joy couldn't help but add with a giggle.

The interviewer seemed intrigued. "Well, let's see how they react now. Yeri, please do an aegyo."

Yeri's smile turned mischievous and she did what she had to do, looking straight at you.

The camera captured how Wendy's face turned into a full-on grimace with her fists lightly gripping her chair. You, on the other hand, had covered your ears with your hands while turning away from Yeri, getting up to hug Irene from the back and bury your face into her back.

"Unnie, help me~" you whined, igniting even louder laughs from the people present at the interview, even the staff.

Irene could only let out a soft laugh while gripping your hand that wrapped around her neck in an attempt to hug you back. "There, there Eli. It's okay."

You returned to your seat and playfully glared at Yeri when she was finished with her act. "Thank you so much, Yeri-ah."

She laughed out loud. "You're always welcome, Unnie."

The interviewer could only shake his head in response, laughing along to your antics.

Aside from aegyo, during your first year with Yeri interviewers also asked about what the rest of you think or feel about Yeri joining the group. Sometimes the question would be thrown to all of you so Irene would usually be the one answering. This time, though, you were asked directly.

"How do you feel after Yeri joined? I've noticed that the group had become brighter somehow," the interviewer started, the group nodding along in agreement.

"Eli? Can you share how you felt when you first found out? Or maybe your first impression of her?"

You looked around the group in a quick glance and ended up at Irene, looking for her approval. She nodded discreetly to let you know it's okay to share the truth.

You titled your head, thinking. "Hmm... Well, the first time I met Yeri was during training. I think you were there a year after I was?" you looked at Yeri for confirmation which she nodded at, "she's a bright kid but quite shy. I got to know her from Seulgi-unnie and I've known her since then. She's the little sister I never had," you smiled directly at her while she smiled widely in return.

"What about after she joined the group? I mean, your group must've had a dynamic and after she joined, that must've changed, right? And your position as maknae was also taken by her. How did you feel?"

You laughed. "I don't really mind not being the maknae anymore, I've never been the type to act all cute anyway. She fits the role perfectly and I agree with you, I feel like our group is more fun with her around because she's always so bright and happy and that makes us happy too. She makes us laugh a lot, don't you think?" you asked your members to which they nodded in agreement.

"Eli's right," Seulgi added, "Yeri is very bright and knows how to make us laugh when we needed some pick-me-up. She's mischievous so her antics are too much sometimes but we also love that about her."

You all smiled in response while the interviewer nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer.

It was one of the worst moments Red Velvet had ever had as a group. It was so sudden and unpredictable that something like this could happen to anyone, let alone to three idols. You, Seulgi, and Yeri were on your way back when the car you were in got into an accident. You were sitting beside Yeri and immediately tried to cover her, unbuckling your belt and covering her body with yours. You didn't really plan it, and it probably wasn't the best idea but your instinct immediately told you to unbuckle your belt and cover Yeri that way because if you didn't it wouldn't be as effective. As a result, you got the most minor injuries out of the three of you and seemingly the whole world to worry over you.

The three of you were rushed to the hospital and immediately received treatment, you being unconscious due to the hit on your head. Seulgi and Yeri were mostly fine, only supporting light scratches here and there. After they were done being treated, the hospital called your manager to let him know about your conditions while Seulgi and Yeri waited beside your bed. They were no doubt worrying about the member's and company's reactions over this even though it wasn't anyone else's fault.

"Why did Eli-unnie protect me like that? Now she's more hurt because of me."

Seulgi shook her head and brought Yeri closer to her, titling Yeri's chin so she was looking at her in the eyes. "Yerim-ah, you know she wouldn't like it if you blame yourself. She did it because she loves you and wants to protect you. She couldn't see you hurt so she did what she thought was best," Seulgi Yeri's hair lightly, a sad smile on her face, "please don't blame yourself, okay? I'm sure Eli wouldn't want that."

Yeri, with a heavy heart, could only nod and divert her attention back on you who was lying on the hospital bed, sleeping. Your injuries weren't much, just some heavier scratches on some parts of your body and some bruises but you'll live. It was worth saving your little sister after all.

Not long after that, your manager arrived and relief was evident on his face when he realised it wasn't as bad as he thought. After Seulgi told him what had happened, he put his hand on Yeri's shoulder, making her look up at him.

"She'll be okay, Yeri. You know she's strong, right?"

Yeri could only nod.

You woke up the next day to a sleeping Yeri on the side of your bed, gripping your hand in hers. You took your time to wake up before trying to move around, feeling the bruises and wounds on your body, making you wince and stifle your groan as of to not wake Yeri up.

You moved slightly to the side and ran your free hand on her head lightly, careful not to wake her up. After a few seconds, you stopped when the door to the room opened and a nurse came in.

"Good morning, Miss Elizabeth. How are you feeling?" she asked softly, minding the fact that you might have a headache, a reassuring smile on her face.

You gave a small smile back. "Good, though sore in some places. What happened after the accident?"

The nurse hummed. "Well, they brought you here but you were unconscious due to the blow on your head. Are you feeling nauseous or do you have a headache?"

"No nausea but yeah, I have a headache. My head feels pretty heavy."

She sighed. "Well, we'll give you some meds for that and then you can go home. I'll call your manager to let him know."

You smiled. "Thank you, Nurse. Is everyone else okay?"

She smiled back and nodded. "Yeah, your other member had gone home while this little one wouldn't leave your side."

You turned your attention towards Yeri again to see her still sleeping. You smiled and ran your thumb on her the back of her hand softly.

You looked up at the nurse again. "Has she been sleeping for long?"

"I came here three hours ago to check on you and she was still awake, though I think she went to sleep right before I went out of the room.

"I'll leave you to it, okay? Get some more rest," the nurse finished with a motherly smile, patting your arm comfortingly.

You grinned. "Will do!"

With that, you closed your eyes and attempted to sleep again before you felt Yeri gripping your hand tighter. You opened your eyes and looked towards her only to see her lifting her head up and looking around, eventually meeting your eyes.

You smiled. "Hey there, sleepyhead."

Her eyes widened when she finally realised you were awake. "Eli-unnie! You're awake! How are you feeling? Are you okay? Should I call the nurse?"

She rambled while sitting up straighter. You laughed out loud which was a bad idea because that made your headache act up and you winced. Yeri, unfortunately, noticed the slight movement.

"What's wrong? What hurts?"

You closed your eyes for a bit before opening them again and looking into the slightly-panicked eyes of your dongsaeng.

"I'm okay, Yerim-ah, just a headache. How are you feeling?"

She scrunched her nose in distaste. "You're the one on the hospital bed and you're asking me how I am?"

You giggled. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing."

Yeri rolled her eyes. "Unbelievable. Wait until Joohyun-unnie sees you."

Your eyes widened before you sighed in defeat. "Damn. Well, still, how are you?"

She let out a sigh and gripped your hand tighter again. "I'm okay, Unnie. Thank you for saving me though I don't like it because you're more hurt because of me."

You were about to shake your head before you remembered your headache so you opted for words instead. "Don't say that, Yerim-ah. I protected you because I wanted to and because it was my instinct. Please don't blame yourself, it was my own decision and I'll be taking full responsibility for it. Don't feel guilty, okay? None of this is your fault."

You gripped her hand tighter and tugged at it, making her stand up.

"Give me a hug, little sister. I need one."

She brought you into her embrace and you took in her scent.

"Thank you, Unnie. I love you."

You smiled and hugged her tighter. "I love you too."
