Welcome Back

The Life of the Sixth Member

Wendy was back. For good, this time. That was the only thing you could focus on after you heard the news from her, really. After more than a year-long hiatus, she was ready to make music and meet the fans again. She wasn't going to hold back too, as she had her hosting job lined up, a few magazines features, her solo debut, and some CFs too. You couldn't be more proud of your sister, though there was some concern there too.

"Wow Unnie, you're going to be so busy!"

Wendy let out soft chuckles, looking at you with soft eyes. "That's the point, Liza. I don't want to hold back anymore. My break was long enough for me and the fans, and I just want to give back all the love they've given me."

You nodded, though your eyes showed there was some hesitance. Wendy knew you had more to say. You looked at her with the slightest hint of worry in your eyes.

"Are all these things what you really want to do, Unnie? Not the company?" You really didn't want to rain on her parade, you really didn't. You were happy that your sister was declared healthy to go back to her idol life again and she could do all the things she didn't get to for more than a year. With that being said, you couldn't help but overthink and worry.

Wendy knew where you were coming from so she didn't take it as an offence, giving you her warm smile that you loved so much.

"Yes, Liza. I wouldn't say yes to the offer if it was something I wasn't comfortable with. I'm just glad the company are not blocking my opportunities anymore and I feel like I can pay Luvies back, you know?"

You stood up at this before putting your hands on each of her shoulders, causing her to look up at you. "Unnie, please understand that you don't have to pay anyone back," your eyes showed her that you were completely serious. "Do things at your own pace, enjoy what you do and that's enough for the fans, I promise. Yes they miss you, but you shouldn't compromise your health and rest to do everything at once. They're not going anywhere, and neither are we."

Wendy sighed, leaning her head against your stomach which caused you to wrap your hand around her neck and head, giving the top of her head a kiss.

"I just want to show them that I'm back and I appreciate the support they've given us all this time. I don't want them to forget about me." She added with a small voice and you knew that was the core of her worries.

"How can anyone forget someone like you?" You pulled back a little so she would look at you again. "Wendy, listen to me. No one in their right minds would ever forget someone like you. You're always in their minds and I would know because they've been posting a lot of things during your hiatus, and your name always pops up whenever I do a Live. They love you and they're loyal to you, they'll always wait and support you in everything you do. Have no doubts about that."

Your older sister looked up at you with her teary eyes, wondering how lucky she was for having someone like you in her life. Someone she could trust that never sugarcoat things and always uplifting even when things look bleak. You never let anyone's doubts hinder their true potentials.

"Thank you, Liza. I promise to take things in my pace and always take care of myself. Will you be there with me?"

You smiled, taking her into your warm embrace and let her melt into your touch. "Every step of the way."

Now, Wendy was definitely grateful for your support and she should've expected you to check up on her every chance you get, but she didn't expect it to be this much. Ever since Wendy had gotten back into her schedules, you text her every few hours or at the end of the day to check how she was doing. With her track record of replying to messages though, you never really get the responses you wanted so you began texting her manager too.

When you first started texting her, she didn't really mind as she knew you were just checking up on her throughout the day and making sure she's eaten, her schedules were going well, etc. You do live in the same dorm so you got to see her sometimes, although with her busy schedule you didn't get to see her as much as you wanted. But as time passed by, Wendy began to feel irritated by the amount of texting she had to do. Your group was never the always-texting type, so this was something that was out of the ordinary. She knew you and at least some of the members, like Irene and Yeri, texted regularly on a daily basis especially when you were away from them, but Wendy was never at the end of this treatment. Yes, she tried to reply to you more often than she did the others but this was too much. Wendy began to feel like you couldn't trust her to take care of herself so this had to change.

After one of her tapings for Mysterious Record Shop, Wendy went home to the smell of dinner that you had probably cooked. She sighed, not really wanting to have the conversation with you now though maybe she shouldn't let it be for too much longer.

"I'm home!"

You walked around the kitchen to greet her with your signature warm smile, causing her to relax a little bit. "Wan-unnie! Have you eaten yet?"

She shook her head 'no' and you motioned for her to come to the kitchen, which she complied to immediately.

When she had taken off her coat, she went to the kitchen and put her handbag on the kitchen table, taking off her mask with a relieved sigh. She saw the food was halfway gone.

"Had the others eaten yet?"

You nodded, sitting on the opposite chair. "Joohyun-unnie just went in her room. Yeri and Sooyoung-unnie are still out."

"Did you wait for me?" Wendy couldn't help but asked as she washed her hands over the sink.

"Hmm," you hummed in response. "I figured you'd be home soon so I told Hyun-unnie I'd wait for a little longer."

Wendy sighed, making you frown. What was with her? "Did you text my manager again?"

You raised an eyebrow at her question, confused. "No? I texted her today around lunchtime to remind her and you to eat though," you shrugged nonchalantly.

Wendy didn't see it but she knew you made the move. She released another heavy sigh, trying to form words in her mind so that she wouldn't offend you as she walked around you to stand in front of her seat.

"Liza, you need to stop." That did it. Wendy really tried to form better words in her mind but that was what came out and she knew there was no taking it back.

You froze in your seat, looking at her like a deer caught in a headlight. "What?" You whispered out and Wendy groaned, not liking where this was going.

She knew it wouldn't end well for either of you and she hated confrontations.

"You're always texting me and if I don't answer, you text my manager. What's that all about? Do you not trust me anymore?"

You frowned. "What? Of course, I trust you. I'm checking in because I'm worried about you and would like to know if you're doing alright, that's all."

"Worried about me? I'm twenty-eight, I can take care of myself!" She blurted out and you leaned back in your seat, hurt in your eyes. She had never shouted at you before, even if you were doing something wrong. Never.

"And why are you asking my manager as well? That made me look unprofessional, like I can't reply to my own members' texts."

You stood up as well, knowing this was going to end badly and you just wanted to avoid everything altogether. "Because you don't? That's why I texted her, because you didn't reply to my messages. She didn't seem to mind, she understood why I'm worried and why I turn to her for answers," You tried to not get too worked up, so you were keeping your voice pretty low.

"Why are you so worried anyway? We've never been the type of group who text all the time, I don't know what's changed."

You chuckled in disbelief, looking at her incredulously. "Maybe I'm worried because you had a major accident that took you from us last year. Maybe I'm worried because I care about you and don't want to lose you!" You couldn't help it now. This was definitely not going to end well. You briefly wondered why Irene wasn't coming out of her room yet with how loud you thought you and Wendy were being.

"But I'm right here! I'm not going anywhere. Maybe you need to stop worrying and start trusting me that I can take care of myself."

You stilled, all anger and disbelief disappeared from your expression. Wendy didn't know what to think. "Is that it? You think I don't trust you that you can take care of yourself?"

Wendy frowned in confusion. "Isn't this what this is all about?"

"Wow," you scoffed, shaking your head in disbelief. "I thought you knew me better than this, Unnie." Wendy opened up to reply but you shook your head, looking at her in the eyes to show her the hurt and defeat you were experiencing. "You don't have to worry, I won't bother you or your manager anymore."

That's what you were saying but Wendy felt like it was the end of something more. Something deeper.

She sighed, running her hand through her hair in exasperation mixed with confusion. "Liza, that's not-"

"No, Unnie, it's fine. I understand." You gave her a smile though it clearly didn't reach your eyes. You stepped away from the table and slid your chair back in, making sure you left no trace of you behind. "Enjoy your dinner, Wendy-unnie. I hope you like it."

You quickly left the kitchen in silence, not letting your tears or sobs came through before you were in the comfort of your room. On the other side of the dorm, Wendy was left wondering just what she had done for you to call her stage name outside of schedules. You had never done that before, always claiming that she was Seungwan at home and should be comfortable with that too, and now that had changed. Wendy didn't know just what she had caused because she thought she was just voicing her opinions as you always encouraged her to do.

But maybe, maybe she got it all wrong.

If it took her this long to realise just what caused you to text her constantly and even texting her manager when she failed to answer, maybe she truly didn't know you as well as she thought she did.

At first I wrote this for me but I'm definitely ecstatic because other people find it fun too. I hope this story, even though I can't upload as often as I used to, can still provide you with the same feeling after a long day. I really appreciate all of you beyond words can explain ♥️
