The night before the date

“I’m sorry.” Dr. Seo started crying as 5 angry eyes looked at him. “I-I didn’t want to do it. But she’s my niece and, and, and that girl. She was going to tell my wife, and I didn’t-I’m sorry. Please, please forgive me.” he begged.

Kris grabbed Dr. Seo by the collar of his shirt.

“DO YOU HAVE ANY ING IDEA WHAT YOUR LIE COST ME?! HUH!?” he shook the man in anger.

“DO YOU HAVE ANY ING IDEA?!” he threw the man causing him to land on the floor.

“I’M SORRY!” Dr. Seo sobbed.

Kai sat down shocked at everything that he has just been told.

“You’re telling me that you were just following Krystal’s orders?” Kai asked stunned.

Dr. Seo nodded. “She came to me one day with a stack of photos. It was of me in bed with-“ he gulped, while angry eyes looked at him from the boys. “she told me to help her. She told me to fake documents of her depression and to fake Wendy’s pregnancy. I didn’t want my wife to know! if she knew I was sleeping with my doctor in trainings she’ll kill me. My reputation will be ruined! I’ll lose everything!” he exclaimed. “I didn’t mean to do it!”

Tao drowned his glass of wine and looked over at Kai.

“Your girlfriend is something; don’t you think?” he asked mockingly at the boy.

“I didn’t think it’ll be a big deal.” Dr. Seo continued. “Honest. I just thought my niece would get a good husband and that girl would get her boyfriend back! I didn’t know all of this was happening. I promise!”

Kai clenched his hands into fists tightly trying to hold in his anger.

Kris chuckled. “You didn’t think anything was going to happen?” he growled darkly. “My ing life almost got ruined permanently because of you!” he kicked the man.

Dr. Seo whimpered. Luhan, Tao, and Lay just continued to look at the man without sympathy. Luhan was sitting with his legs crossed on the chair with a wine glass in his hand, Tao rolled his eyes and sat back onto the couch, while Lay was sipping his wine leisurely as the scene unfold.

Kai stood up and straighten his suit. Lay raised an eyebrow.

“I’m going home.” he said calmly. He looked at Lay and nodded. “Thanks for the tip hyung. I owe you one. That building you’ve been eyeing in Gangnam?”

Lay smirked. “Yeah?”

“Consider it yours.”  

Lay’s smirk widened. He raised his wine glass to Kai. Kai nodded and started walking. He stopped and looked down at Dr. Seo.

“You’re done.” He glared and walked out with the sound of the door slamming. 

Kris looked at Dr. Seo before crouching down next to him. Dr. Seo flinched.

“You’re done.”

“What-what do you mean?” Dr. Seo stuttered.

He got up and rolled up his sleeves.

Luhan looked at him. “Are you going to beat him up or something?”

“Shut up Luhan.” he said calmly.

Kris looked at Jaoho and then looked at Lay asking him something with his eyes. Lay seems to understand and gave Kris a nod.

“Jaoho.” He voiced out.

“Yes Mr. Wu.”

 “Those pictures that that got from him. Find out who took them. Get it for me.”

“What-what are you going to get those pictures for?” Dr. Seo asked in fear.

Kris kept his face on.

“Yes sir.” Jaoho replied. “Is there anything else sir?”

“Send them out to all the major news portals, every social media, radio station, tv station, anywhere that will spread the news. I want everyone to know what a disgusting pig this man is.”

“PLEASE DON’T!” Dr. Seo begged. “PLEASE! I’LL BE RUINED!”

“Like I give a . Go.”

“Yes sir.” Jaoho bowed and then left.

Kris picked up the man from the floor and stood him up.

“Please.” Dr. Seo begged. “I have a family.”

Kris leaned close to him. “I did too and you ed with it.” He landed a punch on the man’s face making him stumble backwards.

“And I’m going to enjoy this.” Kris said as he lunged towards the male.

Luhan rolled his eyes, while Tao looked like he wanted to join. Lay picked up the wine bottle on the table.

“Wine?” he asked the two boys with a grin on his face. 

The day of the date

“You going to work?” Lay looked up from his ipad as he saw Kris walk into the dining room. Kris had crashed over at Lay’s the night before after everything had been revealed. There was no way he was going to go back to Wu manor and deal with his parents.

Kris buttoned his shirt. “No I'm actually going to head home and have a talk with my parents. Thanks for ending me your clothes by the way. I’ll dry clean it and send it back to you.” he sat down next to Lay on the table and picked up the cup of coffee and drank from it.

“No problem.” Lay placed the tablet down on the table and looked at Kris. “So…” he laced his hands together and placed them under his chin. “what are you going to do now?”

Kris looked up from his drink. “What else. Expose the and get her the hell out of my life. she did enough damage.” He placed the cup down angry.

“Hmm.” Lay hummed. “I expected that much but what I meant was what are you going to do about your relationship with Areum now?”

Kris got quiet.

“Do you still love her?”

“Of course I do.” He replied softly. “I never stopped.”

There was silence between them. Lay hummed and then leaned back on his chair remembering his conversation with Luhan last night.

Flashback

“He’s totally wasted now.” Luhan said as he eyed the drunken Kris Tao was dragging into one of Lay’s extra bedrooms.

Lay nodded. “What do you think will happen from here? Do you think he’ll get back together with Areum? He’s been a mess ever since they broke up.”

Luhan shrugged. “Who knows. He might be too late.”

Lay raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean by that? Luhan, is there something you know that you’re not telling me?”

“I’m just saying Areum’s an amazing girl. There’s bound to be someone to sweep her off her feet and this time actually treat her right.”

Lay narrowed his eyes at the older boy. “You know something and you’re not telling me. Gege, I care for both of them, Kris and Areum. If there is something I need to know you should tell me. I did tell you about Dr. Seo, I think I deserve to know your secret as well.”

Luhan turned around and started walking towards the door, Lay hot on his trail. Luhan got his keys and opened the door but stopped and looked back from the side.

“Let’s just say our little ice prince’s heart started melting ever since she got back. It could never stay cold with her around.” He closed the door and left after that.

Lay looked at the man that was sitting in front of him right now. Lay was not an idiot of course he knew what Luhan had meant. This was just getting messier and messier by the minute. From what happened yesterday with Kai as well he could have guessed that boy had grown feelings for Areum as well. So much that Krystal had to end up scheming to keep his love.

“Gege.”

“Hm?”

“If you really love Areum fight for her and if she still loves you I hope you two can be happy again. But…”

Kris looked up at him when Lay hesitated.

“But if her happiness is somewhere else or with someone else what are you willing to risk fighting for it?”

Kris furrowed his eyes. “What do you mean by that?”

“If someone-if” Lay sighed. “I’m just saying us and the boys. We’ve been friends even before we even knew what friends were. I’m just saying if-“ Lay stopped when he say Kris’s hard eyes.

“You knew.” Lay sat back with a huff. “You knew about them and their feelings didn’t you?”

Kris looked to the sides avoiding Lay’s eyes.

“Well then I’ll stop beating around the bush. If it comes down to you, Sehun, and Kai fighting for her. Respect who she chooses. And I hope that our friendship is strong enough for this not to break us apart. I’m not telling you what to do, but I don’t want this to ruin us. We’ve been friends for so long and Areum is like a sister to me." Lay looked up softly at Kris, "Whatever happens Kris, let’s not let this break us.” 

Kris was driving home. Lay’s words still in his mind.  

“Whatever happens Kris, let’s not let this break us.”

Kris gripped tightly on his wheel. Of course he didn’t want that to ruin their friendship. Kai and Sehun were like his real brothers. They all were. Of course he didn’t want this to ruin their friendship, but Areum meant the world to him too. He thought about it silently as he drove back to his house. Was he ok if Areum picked one of them besides him? His thoughts were interrupted with the ringing of his phone. He picked it up and looked at the caller id.

Wendy

His grip tightened on the phone until he decided to answer it.

“Hello.”

“Kris. Where were you? you didn’t come back home after work. Your parents told me you didn’t go home and you’re not at work. Are you ok?”

“I’m fine. Are you at work?”

“I am. Why?”

“Come over to Wu manor. I want to talk to you and my parents.”

“Why? Did something happen?”

“Its about our engagement. Come by this afternoon.”

“Ok. Kris I-”

Kris hung up before she could finish her sentence. He wanted this to be over.

Kris drove up his driveway and walked into his house. His mom was having tea in the backyard. He had called his dad to come home since he knew he was walking. Kris walked up to his mother and kissed her on the cheek.

“Mama.” He said.

His mom placed her teacup down. “Yifan.”

He sat down next to his mom. His mom didn’t say anything to him. He knew she was still angry with him about the whole Wendy situation. He grabbed her hand.

“Mama.”

She looked at him.

“I know you’ve been disappointed in me these past few weeks. I know and I’m sorry for letting you down. I’m really sorry mama. I’m even more disappointed in myself.” He looked down at their connected hands. “But I’m going to fix it mama. Believe me.”

“Oh sweetie.” Mrs. Wu took her free hand and placed them on Kris’s cheek. She his cheek. “I know you will fix it. I know Yifan. I know.” she said to him with a loving smile. Kris placed his hand on hers that was on his cheek and smiled back.

“Mama.”

“Hm?”

“I haven’t heard you play the piano in a while. Would you play with me?”

Mrs. Wu smiled at her son. “Of course.”

They walked back into the house and made way to the grand piano. Mrs. Wu sat down on in front of the piano and Kris sat down next to her.

“What song would you like to play?” his mom asked.

Kris smiled as a memory came into his mind. He placed his hands on the keys.

“I think you’ll like this one mama.” He smiled fondly at the memory and started playing. As Kris played he started singing to it as well.

His mother smiled down at her son and placed her hand on the keys and played with him as well. As he sang and played Kris couldn’t help but remember Areum. This song was his parent’s song but also his and Areum’s. He remembered when he first heard her play the piano. It enchanted him into staying and watching her. This was the first song that she played with him. This was the song that made Areum trust him. This was the song that got them to become friends. This was the song that stated it all. Kris played and couldn’t help but hold in his tears as he played with his mom. The song was here but the person wasn’t. Was he ready to give her up? No. Hell no. He wasn’t. No matter what he had to try to get her back. He had to.

I love her.

Kris smiled as the song started to end. He’ll just have to win her back. 

They finished the song and heard clapping. They turned around just to see Mr. Wu watching them.

“I haven’t heard that song in a while.” He smiled at them.

“You’re home early darling.” Mrs. Wu said.
