They couldn't even make eye contact.

Nope.

When the two of them made it home, they just pretended like they were too drunk to speak and went off to their own rooms without saying a word.

Both of them were still reeling from the kiss and it took them a few hours before their minds settled down long enough for them to sleep.

The next morning wasn't any better, Sang Hee was out of the house before Himchan woke up and hitched a ride from Chin Hwae and Dong Chul who were curious why she wasn't getting a ride from Himchan.

And once they got to work, the two of them did whatever they could to avoid each other. Luckily their case load wasn't as heavy, which left them tied to their desks doing reports.

But that didn't mean there wasn't tension hanging in the air.

And that didn't mean the others didn't notice it too.

The truth was that neither of them really knew what to say or how to deal with what happened the night before and they were hoping that with enough radio silence, they could forget it ever happened in the first place.

"Damn girl. You sure know how to let your hair down when it's quitting time." Chin Hwae called out blankly while leaning back on his chair.

Dong Chul and Himchan looked up and froze when Sang Hee entered the office.

She rolled her eyes while snapping a wristwatch on, "Take a picture, it'll last longer."

She was dressed in a simple black dress, sheer black leggings and a long maroon coat.

Dong Chul's jaw was hanging off his face as he gaped at her, "W-What…um…wh-who…what are you--"

"I think he wants to know why you're all dressed up." Chin Hwae said with raised brows.

San Hee's eyes flashed over to Himchan who was focusing his attention elsewhere, "I…um…I'm meeting someone for dinner."

Chin Hwae tilted his head, "So you have a date?"

"You have a what!?" Dong Chul shrieked, jumping out of his seat.

She looked back at Himchan whose eyes flickered up to meet hers before looking away again, but his fingers hovered over the keys without moving. Her stomach twisted in discomfort.

"It's not really a date. I'm just having a meal with a…friend." She mumbled awkwardly.

Chin Hwae looked unfazed, "When did this happen? We saw you this morning and you didn't say anything about a date."

"It was last minute, he sent me a text, asking me for dinner. I ran home to grab some clothes on my lunch break." She said, prickly about their scrutiny.

But honestly, she was pretty critical about the whole thing herself.

Dong Chul frowned as he bounced on his heels, "W-Who are you going out with?"

She closed her eyes for a second before tightening her grip around her purse. She was hoping that none of them would ask that many questions.

But they were cops, what did she expect?

"It's…um…it's with Namjoon."

Silence filled the office until Himchan's hand accidentally knocked his empty mug off his table, making it shatter into pieces.

"S-." He muttered while standing up.

Himchan moved passed Sang Hee, his body barely touching hers, into the kitchen to grab a broom. Sang Hee bit down on her bottom lip as she stared at the broken shards.

She hated the word date in the same sentence as Namjoon, but she couldn't exactly think of another excuse to give them as to why  she'd be meeting with him to talk without revealing the truth.

He said he had important information about her parent's death and he wanted to talk it over a meal so it didn't seem suspicious.

"Y-You and Namjoon? Why? Since when? How? Where? What?" Dong Chul rambled as his face turned red.

Sang Hee scratched the back of her head, "Uhhh…"

Chin Hwae called it a date but dates were supposed to make you excited and Sang Hee couldn’t wait till it was over.

"He knows you're staying with VC right? You're not planning on leaving us, are you?" He said hastily.

Sang Hee let out a breathy laugh, "Don't worry, it's just dinner, he knows I'm staying here."

"And what kind of guy asks a girl like you out through text? A chump, that's who." Dong Chul said while scowling.

She raised her brow, "Aren't you guys like, best friends?"

"It shouldn't matter. He should know how to treat you better. Give me your phone, let me talk to him." He barked while sticking his arm out.

"Aren't you going to be late?" Chin Hwae prompted, saving her from Dong Chul's third degree.

She gave him a grateful look, "Yeah, I should go."

"Leave the name of the restaurant." He called out.

Sang Hee made a face, "Why?"

"We're cops, we like to know where our people are going." Chin Hwae said with a shrug.

She stared at him for a moment before sighing and scribbling it down on an scrap of paper and handed to him, "See you guys tomorrow."

"Have fun." He called out. "Be safe!"

Dong Chul pouted, "Yeah…have fun."

Once she was out of the building, Dong Chul pouted, "I can't believe she's actually going on a date with Namjoon. They don't even know each other that well."

"Well, it's not like you were going to make your move any time soon." Chin Hwae snorted.

Dong Chul whined, "I was working up to it. How are you not more upset about this?"

"Did she leave?" Himchan asked as he walked in with a broom.

Dong Chul huffed, "Yeah."

Himchan stayed quiet as he swept up pieces of his mug. Chin Hwae inspected him, "You okay?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" He muttered while tossing away the shards in the garbage can.

Chin Hwae shrugged, "You two have been acting so weird ever since this morning. Did something happen?"

"No."

Dong Chul gasped, "Did you guys fight?"

"No."

"So why are you acting so weird?" Chin Hwae asked.

He shook his head, "I'm not acting weird. The two of us are perfectly fine."

Chin Hwae snorted emotionlessly, "Whatever you say."

-----

Sang Hee was tense throughout the whole cab ride to the restaurant.

She didn't like that Namjoon was forcing his way into her personal issues and was trying to help her without her permission.

But the worst part was that Namjoon knew how important this was to her, so no matter how reluctant she was, he  knew she wouldn't ignore him.

"Here we are." Her taxi driver said as he pulled up in front of a fancy restaurant.

Sang Hee stared at the bright lights, almost hesitating, she could still make him take her back to the apartment but she had to know what Namjoon knew. She paid the driver before getting out of the taxi.

She smoothed her dress down before walking up the stairs and to the front desk. Her eyes scanned the room until the hostess turned to her with a blinding smile.

"Hi! How can I help you?"

She cleared and tried to muster up a smile, "Reservation under Kim Namjoon."

"Ah yes, right this way."

Sang Hee followed the woman to the patio where she led her to a table that looked out over the railing to the lake.

"Thanks." Sang Hee mumbled while taking a seat.

"Your waiter will come with water."

She nodded as the woman walked away and looked out at the lake, entranced by the way the moon glittered over the lake as she waited for him.

And 30 minutes later, when Namjoon still didn't show, she started getting a really bad feeling.

-----

Himchan stared at his computer screen, unable to think about anything but Sang Hee in that ing dress.

He closed his eyes, hoping to cleanse his mind, but it didn't help when the image was replaced with one from the night before.

The one with a lot less clothing.

He started clicking the back of his pen neurotically as his mind drifted to the strange uneasy feeling in his stomach that erupted ever since she avoided him that morning. He didn't like how differently they acted.

But he wasn't the only one distracted.

"I mean, I get it, Namjoon is handsome, but is he really all that? I don't think so. I think Sang Hee could do so much better. Objectively speaking, Namjoon's kinda basic." Dong Chul said with a scoff.

Chin Hwae typed away, "But at least he's a gentleman, right? Isn't that the most important thing for the guy who our friend is going out with, right Himchan?"

"Huh?" He asked distractedly as he started clicking furiously.

"I said isn't it important that she's going out with a good guy. You know, someone that we all know and like."

Himchan paused before nodding, "Sure, but she's an adult, she doesn't need us approving of who she goes out with. It's her business."

"Why are you guys so cool with this?!" Dong Chul sulked.

Himchan's reply was cut off when someone entered the office, stunning them into a confused silence.

"What are you guys doing holed up on a Friday night? Don't you have better things to do?"

Dong Chul shot up from his seat in anger, "Namjoon? What the hell are you doing here?"

Himchan's brows furrowed and his eyes narrowed as he stared at his friend who was dressed in jeans and a hoodie. That wasn't exactly the clothes you'd wear to dinner since Sang Hee was in a dress.

"Wow, okay, nice to see you too, buddy." He snorted. "I just needed to drop off some paperwork before I head home.."

Himchan's face was tensed, "Why aren't you with Sang Hee?"

"Why would I be?" Namjoon said with a confused smile.

Himchan's nose twitched as his voice dropped, "I'm not joking around, why the hell aren't you with her? Did you just leave her there? It's barely been an hour."

"Woah, dude, calm down. Why would you think I'm supposed to be with her?" He asked with knit brows.

Himchan stayed silent as his mind raced. Even Chin Hwae looked concerned, "She said that she was meeting you for dinner and that you texted her about it, she left like 40 minutes ago."

"I never made plans with her." Namjoon insisted, "I don't even have her number."

He pulled

Hi Loviet, I'm your biggest fans of your writing, I've read AnD first before the Home series, I love it so much that I've give it a go for Home, and ofc I still impressed of your stories. Few days ago I've comeback to Aff and start rereading all my fav stories, and surely again you will hear from me that you are so talented and thank God you are still writing! AnD left a big of impression to me because unlike Eunah and Yongguk, Himchan have it hard from the beginning, the character development of him trying to accept his past and start to be good for himself is beautiful. This is the man who rather see everyone around him happy but himself, the man who cares about other but neglect himself, the one who is so strong but choose to hurt himself more, thank you for giving chances to him. I could say AnD is the second best after RoD <3 thank you for writing, stay safe!
