"I didn't tell Eun Ah, you know."

Himchan frowned as he balanced his phone between his ear and his shoulder as he poured himself a cup of coffee in the break room.

"You didn't tell her what?"

Yongguk chuckled on the other end, "That you're currently living with your female partner. I don't like keeping stuff from her, but I'm pretty sure she'd blow a gasket if I told her."

"How did you find out?" He grumbled.

Yongguk chuckled, his voice crackly but full of life, "You're not as slick as you used to be. You've lost your edge."

"Don't get the wrong idea, I know having another kid is deteriorating your IQ. She had to move out of her place and Burt and Ernie volunteered my place for her to move into." He grumbled.

"Burt and Ernie, nice, because me and Dong Chul live together. Funny. Hope you're proud of your elementary school level Sesame Street reference." Chin Hwae deadpanned as he walked past his friend with an apple in his hand.

Yongguk chuckled when he heard the barb, "Still, just because they volunteered your place doesn't mean they enforced it. You still let her live with you all this time."

"Trust me, it wasn't a walk in the park for either of us." He muttered.

Yongguk hummed teasingly, "Sure, whatever you say."

"Okay, really? You're going to give me ? You mean to tell me that when you forced Eun Ah to live with us when you first met her, it was because you had a thing for her?" He asked sarcastically.

Yongguk didn't seem bothered, "No, you're right I wasn't exactly in love with her at the time or anything, but when I first met her I acknowledged the fact that she was hot."

"Okay, moving on." Himchan said in disgust as he moved back to his table.

"Word on the street is that you paid Minseok a visit." He said carefully.

Himchan's face muscles tensed as he took his seat, "Don't you have a newborn to be looking after?"

"I'm rocking him to sleep as we speak." There was shuffling before gurgling filled the Himchan's ear.

"Say hi to your stubborn idiot uncle, Min."

Himchan rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless when he heard his nephew mumble nonsense.

"See?" Yongguk stated plainly.

Himchan snorted, "Thanks."

"But seriously, what were you doing there?" Yongguk asked sternly.

Himchan sighed, "Just visiting. Nothing to get all Alpha about, trust me."

"I don't like you going over there. What if someone from your work saw yo--"

"Oh! I have to run, they need me on something, I'll talk to you later." Himchan said quickly, cutting his friend off before hanging up.

Sang Hee made a face as she dropped down in her chair having overheard the end of the conversation, "No one needs you to do anything, what the heck are you talking about?"

"Didn't your parents teach you not to eavesdrop, tiger?" He sneered.

Sang Hee smirked, "No, they taught me not to have private phone calls in the middle of a crowded room."

"I miss the days when you were too scared to look me in the eyes." He said with a sigh.

She snorted, "Days? It lasted like 3 hours before I realized how much of a jerk you are."

"A jerk? Really? Oh, so that must mean that you accepted your promotion because you idolized a jerk." He said with a grin.

Her face stiffened, but not in the way that it usually would when he gave her a hard time. This time it looked he hit a nerve.

"No one said that I took this job because of you. I admit you were my idol, but that was only a small part of why I came here." She muttered.

He leaned back in his seat, "So why'd you take it?"

"Because Woon is the Chief."

Himchan frowned at that comment. She didn't make it sound like a good thing, "What the hell does that mean?"

"Guys." Dong Chul said, popping his into the room with a firm look on his face, "We may have something we need you two to look at."

Himchan and Sang Hee's eyes both narrowed at the same time, "Look at what?"

Dong Chul shivered at the look in their eyes, "Creepy. Anyways, we think we may have found out who killed Jin Ah."

-----

"What is this? We've seen this already." Himchan said with furrowed brows as he looked over Sang Hee's shoulder.

She was holding a small iPad that was playing the streetcam footage that he had gone through a few days ago.

"No." Chin Hwae said seriously, "We went through that footage looking for Jin Ah's boyfriend's car. We only looked for his license plate."

Himchan looked at him incredulously, "Of course we would. Who else would we look for?"

Dong Chul made a face and paused the video before zooming into a blurry car, driving down the road.

"This was captured 30 minutes before she was killed."

Sang Hee stared at the car dumbly until her eyes widened in recognition, "T-This…this is--"

"That's her dad's car. And 15 minutes after her TOD, he's seen speeding away from the scene."

"We sent some officers that were in the area to track him down and make sure he doesn't make a run for it, we need to head over there now." Chin Hwae said, grabbing his coat off the chair.

Everyone was about to turn when Chin Hwae's phone rang, "Hel--calm down, tell me  what's going on officer. He--He what?"

They all stared at Chin Hwae whose voice remained emotionless but his fists clenched.

"No. Don't do anything. Don't engage him and do not fire. We'll get down there as fast as we can. Did you call in the Strat-- yeah. Okay, good. Wait for them, we'll be down there." He said before hanging up.

Dong Chul watched his partner carefully, "What happened?"

"Our guy is holding his wife at gun point and is refusing to cooperate. This isn't just an arrest anymore…it's a hostage situation."

-----

"Fill me in." Chin Hwae ordered as they rushed to the crime scene, while strapping on the vest.

The street was littered with cop cars as they stood behind one.

The officer looked at the 4 of them in fear, "We went to check if he was home, he must've seen us through the curtains because once we knocked on the door, he threatened to shoot his wife."

"." Himchan snapped, his sharp eyes dancing around the scene, "Where's the Strategic Response Unit? I thought Chin Hwae told you to call them in."

The officer shrived under his deathly glare, "They're stuck in gridlock. They can't make it for another 30 minutes."

Dong Chul stared at the house, "I don't know if we exactly have 30 minutes. We need the negotiators now."

"So what should we do?" Sang Hee asked while chewing her lips.

Himchan and Chin Hwae shared a look before he nodding, "I'll go in and see if I can talk him down."

"Bad idea, Kim." Woon said as he slammed his car door shut. "The guy's a bigot, he's going to feel threatened if someone bigger and stronger than him approaches. He'll get defensive. We need to send in someone who looks harmless but can subdue him when his guard's down."

Sang Hee straightened her back and pulled out her gun before handing it to Dong Chul, "I'll do it."

Woon stared at her, his face unchanging, "You think you can handle that? These situations are tense and you're not trained in negotiations. I was thinking we could send in Dong Chul, he has a lovable face."

Dong Chul grinned for a second before he saw the cold look on Sang Hee's face.

"We don't have much of a choice, do we? Dong Chul's still a male and that could make put him on offense, so if you want me to play unthreatening, I will." She growled at him.

Himchan's brow raised when he saw the glint in her eye. "I think she should do it."

"Excuse me?" Woon said as he gaped at him.

Himchan shrugged, "She can do it. I've seen her make people break by using their emotions against them and that's exactly what this situation is. One high on emotions."

Sang Hee tried not to show her surprise when she heard his sudden words of endorsement.  Himchan wasn't usually the one that had her back like that.

Although, now that she thought about it, that had been changing.

Woon looked back at her, making her eyes darken.

"I'm not like other cops. I don't run away. I know how to be responsible for my mistakes."

Woon stared at her, perplexed with the connotation that her voice held, "Strap her in."

-----

"I can do this. I can do this." Sang Hee muttered under her breath as she let the technician strap a more heavy duty vest on her.

She closed her eyes and tried to calm her racing heart when she heard a voice speak up, "Don't worry, I'll do it for her."

She opened her eyes and found the technician stepping away while Himchan took over fiddling with the clasp on her vest.

She stared at him, watching the way his dark hair fell over his eyes as he focused his attention on her equipment.

"You need to at least fake being calm or else you'll freak him out." He mumbled while tugging the strap to pull her closer to him.

"R-right." She said under her breath.

His fingers stopped for a second before looking up at her, "What's the problem now, tiger?"

"Woon's right. I have no experience." She admitted.

Himchan rolled his eyes before focusing on her vest again, "Neither do the rest of us. Just use common sense. Don't say or do anything that might aggravate him. Stay away from talking about Jin Ah, build up his pride, men like him believe in manliness, so make him think that he has that."

She closed her eyes and nodded vigorously, "Okay. Right. Got it."

"Don't push him too mu

Hi Loviet, I'm your biggest fans of your writing, I've read AnD first before the Home series, I love it so much that I've give it a go for Home, and ofc I still impressed of your stories. Few days ago I've comeback to Aff and start rereading all my fav stories, and surely again you will hear from me that you are so talented and thank God you are still writing! AnD left a big of impression to me because unlike Eunah and Yongguk, Himchan have it hard from the beginning, the character development of him trying to accept his past and start to be good for himself is beautiful. This is the man who rather see everyone around him happy but himself, the man who cares about other but neglect himself, the one who is so strong but choose to hurt himself more, thank you for giving chances to him. I could say AnD is the second best after RoD <3 thank you for writing, stay safe!
