Chapter 11
Armed and DangerousA week later and neither Himchan nor Sang Hee talked about what had happened the night of the undercover operation at the club.
The K-I-S-S remained unspoken about and the two of them barely even shared a look anymore. They only spoke to each other when they needed to and only looked at each other when they had to.
Honestly, she was tired of it.
They were professional adults.
She knew that the kiss was only an act so there was no need to act all weird around each other. They barely knew each other and it wasn't like either of them had actual feelings for one another.
They just needed to go back to hating each other.
It was as easy as that.
Right?
Sang Hee leaned back on her chair and stared at Himchan who was working at his desk. She gave herself a second to admire the way his face looked when he was concentrated before lacing her fingers over her stomach.
"Hey."
He didn't respond but that didn't stop her, "Hey Himchan."
His eyes didn't even flinch as he continued to type away.
"HEY!" She barked while throwing a scrunched up piece of paper at his table.
"What?" He muttered without glancing up.
"Look at me."
"No." His eyes moved across his computer screen.
Sang Hee groaned and spun around in her chair. "I'm serious this is important. Look at me."
He closed his eyes and sighed before looking over at her. When they made eye contact, she grinned and stuck her middle finger out at him, making him roll his eyes and turn away.
She cackled to herself, before leaning up in her seat to type on her computer. Himchan gave her a dirty look as she continued to chuckle to herself as if she told the world's greatest joke.
Himchan sighed as his eye twitched, "You're like a 12 year old boy."
"So, I'm amazingly full of life and energy?" She asked while tilting her head.
He snorted in reply, "No. You're immature and think you're cooler than you actually are."
"You sound like a bitter old man." She said whimsically.
Himchan cracked his neck before looking at her blankly, "I'd rather be a bitter old man than a 29 year old woman who doesn't know how to kiss."
Sang Hee's eyes widened and her face flushed red as she looked around. Thankfully no else seemed to hear.
"Wha--Ho-How dare you! I KIS--I kiss just fine." She said the last part in a harsh whisper, shooting daggers at him.
"Says who? Your stuffed bear?" He said in amusement.
Sang Hee's jaw dropped before she started sputtering for a reply, "I-I…wha--ho--when I get my hands on you, you're going to die."
Himchan snickered when she stood up and stomped up to him, anger burning in her eyes. He kept his eyes locked on hers and started rolling his chair away from her, crossing his arms over his chest in glee.
"Aww, is the little tiger getting flustered?" He cooed.
Sang Hee felt her fists curl as she chased Himchan around his desk, "Keep talking. Keep running your mouth and let's see how many bruises you get."
The other officers in the precinct gave the pair a glance before looking away with a chuckle. To them, this was just Himchan being Himchan; picking on the newbie.
Apparently none of them felt like it was serious enough to intervene.
Oh, where were Dong Chul and Chin Hwae when you need them?
Himchan clucked his tongue while rolling away, "Does your pride hurt? Maybe instead of taking your anger out on me, you should just learn to kiss better."
"Plenty of guys like the way I kiss." She hissed quietly.
Himchan raised his brows, "Really? Because I literally felt nothing. I've felt more emotion towards grass, than I did towards that pathetic excuse for a kiss. I felt like I was kissing a brick wall."
"Maybe the problem is you. Do you even know how to hold a woman? You must not have a lot of experience since you didn't know what to do with your hands. You must be used to shoving them down your pants so much that your forgot how to use them on a woman." She fired back.
Himchan looked stunned, "Excuse me?"
"It was like you were holding a cactus. You really have no tact at all, do you? I bet you don't know how to date either. You don't know how to treat delicate woman."
Himchan's eye twitched, "Delicate like you? Yeah right. Maybe that's why I held you like a cactus. You're just a major prick."
When he was finally in reach, Sang Hee had her hands ready to choke him to death, but when she was too busy focusing on his jugular, she failed to notice her foot getting hook on one of the wires plugged into Himchan's computer.
She took one step and was sent lurching forward. With a yelp, she shot her hands out to brace herself and grabbed onto the arm rests on either side of Himchan's chair.
Her nails dug into the fabric and let out a sigh when she realized that she managed to avoid face planting.
She lifted her head and froze with wide eyes when she realized that Himchan's face was a couple of mere inches away from hers.
Even he looked surprised with how she was leaning over him. His lips were parted and let out a stuttering breath as he soaked in her proximity.
"I would never date a woman like you." He muttered.
Sang Hee blinked at him, still thrown off my his closeness but managed to sneer, "I'd probably shoot myself."
Sang Hee heard Woon's voice in the distance and quickly stood up right, stepping away from Himchan, this time making sure to avoid the wires.
His eyes followed her face but he still looked bewildered as she cleared and looked away.
So much from trying not to make things weird.
-----
"You guys are leaving together?" Woon asked when he saw Himchan and Sang Hee gather their things at the end of their shift.
Himchan stiffened and shot Sang Hee a look before clearing his throat, "She doesn't have a car yet, I'm just giving her a ride to the bus stop."
Woon blinked at them before tilting his head, "Are you lying to me?"
"Why would I lie about that?" Himchan snorted, "It's not like I like being her taxi."
Woon in his cheeks, "You wouldn't offer someone a ride that easily."
"Well, she's annoying as hell and wouldn't shut up until I gave in."
Sang Hee grit her teeth, "You're so kind."
"I honestly am a saint. Hearing her whiny little voice complain about needing a ride was going to make me blow my goddamn brains out." Himchan said with an overdramatic sigh.
He was really testing her patience.
Sang Hee kept her eyes averted as she zipped up her jacket and pulled her backpack on. Woon continued to stare at them before nodding.
"Actually, before you two leave I'd like to speak to Detective Bae in my office."
-----
"Is something wrong?" Sang Hee asked as she took a seat across from Woon.
The Chief shook his head with a smile, "No, I just wanted to check in and see how your first week has been."
"Ah, it's been good. A lot busier than I was before, that's for sure." She said with a laugh.
Woon nodded, "That's good and your new partner?"
Sang Hee's smile turned into a wince, "Well, I mean…it, uh…he's, um, he's great."
"You don't need to lie, Sang Hee. I know he's rough around the edges, but I'm sure you two will warm up to each other." Woon said knowingly.
Sang Hee gave him a polite smile, "I'm sure we will."
Woon stood up from his chair and dusted his hands, "Well, if that's all, yo--"
"Actually, I wanted to ask you something." She said suddenly while looking up at him.
Woon raised his eyebrows and slipped his hands into his pants pockets, "What is it?"
"Why did you leave Organized Crime?"
Woon's body stiffened as he met her gaze. After the Jaehyun was killed, the bureau forcibly removed Woon from the position.
They wanted to keep him as far away from gangs and Ryu as possible.
"What do you mean?" He asked cautiously.
Sang Hee tilted her head, "Before I joined that unit, I read that you used to be the Chief of Organized Crimes but then you were transferred here. Why did you change?"
Woon looked shocked. "You…did research on me."
Sang Hee smiled politely, "Well, I had to know more about my new Chief."
Woon stayed silent for a second before scanning her face, "I just wanted a change of scenery."
"Oh, I understand. Sometimes the same things can get repetitive and troublesome. Sometimes it's easier to leave than it is to
