Chapter 19
Armed and Dangerous"We're seizing his car and searching his house. Some of the techies used the footage you and Sang Hee found and tracked Ji Hwan's car driving up the road to Jin Ah's car, but the camera couldn't catch the rest."
Himchan readjusted his phone between his shoulder and his ear as he drove along the highway.
"Did you catch him on tape coming back?"
Chin Hwae sighed, "Yeah, he was only out of frame for a couple of minutes, so we have no idea who intercepted them because there's no way he had enough time to kill her."
"What are you going to do?" Himchan asked as he took an exit and wove down the road.
He grunted, "I'm not sure, hopefully we'll find something in the car. We're also sending uniformed officers to canvas the area again to see if they can find someone who remembers seeing anything that day."
"Anything you need me to do?" Himchan asked as he turned down a certain street and pulled up to a familiar driveway.
Chin Hwae let out a breath, "No, it looks like we have it pretty much covered. We got Sang Hee to help us with some stuff, so we should be good for now."
"Great." Himchan said, secretly feeling relieved. This was the first time he was actually glad he had a partner or else he would be the one who'd have to do the work.
He loved Chin Hwae and Dong Chul and any other day he'd be more than willing to do whatever they needed him to but not today.
He just needed to do this, badly.
"Where are you, anyways? You bolted at lunch and you haven't come back." Chin Hwae asked in curiosity.
Himchan stepped out of his car and walked up the driveway before standing in front of the door and pressing the doorbell.
"I have some personal errands that I needed to run." He responded vaguely.
"Do I need to cover for you?"
Himchan let out a sheepish smile, even though his friend couldn't see it, "I mean, it'd be awesome if you could but you don't have to. I can talk to Woon myself."
Silence filled Chin Hwae's end for a few seconds before he let out a tired sigh, "You wear me out worse than your sister's dog. Just be safe."
"Thanks mom." Himchan snickered before they exchanged goodbyes and hung up.
Himchan pressed the doorbell again as he slipped his phone into his back pocket before he heard footsteps stomping down the stairs.
He could honestly say that he didn't want to be there.
A place that he used to stop by three times a week became a place he hadn't come by in years and as rude as it sounded, he was glad.
He wanted to be as far away from the house as possible, but he didn't have many options. He needed to nip this thing in the bud as fast as possible.
The door opened and the person on the other side, stared at him, flabbergasted.
"Hey Minseok."

Sang Hee chugged a bottle of water down before she fell backwards onto her chair.
She had just spent hours interviewing people around the scene of the crime but most of them laughed in her face before telling her that there was no way they could remember what happened all that time ago.
So Chin Hwae sent her back to the offices as he headed back to the proverbial drawing board with Dong Chul.
Which meant that she was officially bored, not being primary on a case wasn't as relaxing as she thought it would be.
She was too much of an eager workaholic to enjoy the easier workload.
Himchan, on the other hand, had spent some of the morning with her, doing menial paperwork, but then just as lunch started, he bolted from his desk with a flimsy excuse and vanished ever since.
And what pissed her off the most? He had yet to come back, which meant she had to do all the work while he was god-knows-where.
But it surprised her that no one seemed concerned. One of his employees just skipped out on work but Woon didn't seem bothered at all, neither did Chin Hwae or Dong Chul.
It was odd.
Sang Hee let out a breath and spun around in her chair, "I'm booorrreeedddd."
No one replied, given the currently emptied office, but that didn't really make her feel any better. Everyone was either on break or working a case while she sat around doing nothing. She let out a breath and tried to sit up, but immediately fell back when pain shot up her side.
She hissed and touched the side of her stomach before wincing. She lifted her shirt and frowned when she noticed a small stain of blood. Her doctor had told her that it was natural to bleed a little if she moved a lot.
Sang Hee sighed and pulled her shirt back down before reaching for her bottom drawer where she kept a small first aid kit handy.
Just as she was about to reach into the drawer, her eyes landed on something that was placed on top of her first aid kit.
She pulled out two bottles and stared at the familiar label before picking up the small hand towel that was folded up.
Her jaw was hung open as she unfolded the towel and stared at the small sticky noted pinned on the inside and felt her lips barely twitch up into a ghost of a smile.
Don't kill yourself while I'm gone. -H

"Want a drink?" Minseok asked as he held up a bottle of scotch.
Himchan made a face and sat across from him, "It's the middle of the day."
"My bad. Would you rather have a beer?" He offered dryly.
"Where are the others?"
Minseok shrugged, "Around. A few of them are out of the country and the others…they're old enough to take care of themselves without reporting their every move to me."
But Himchan knew what that really meant.
Every since Kris died and Luhan extracted, it's not the same anymore…we're not a family, we're just a group of mercenaries living in the same house.
Himchan didn't speak and just observed the man as he poured himself a drink. For the most part he looked exactly the same as before, minus a few changes.
He lost his baby fat, he changed the colour of his hair and his eyes looked like they were in a permanent state of exhaustion.
"Being a leader looks good on you." Himchan quipped.
Minseok took a sip and sat across from the him with a blank look, "Himchan, why are you here? You haven't showed you face around here for years. Cut the small talk."
"Me and you never really got into the witty banter tradition, did we?" Himchan joked.
Minseok snorted before nodding, "You usually dealt with Kris and Luhan the most."
A moment of silence fell over them as they thought about the two members, one lost and the one far, far away.
"Honestly, I was hoping I wouldn't have a real reason to have to come back." He said quietly.
Minseok stared at him before nodding, "No, I get it. Yongguk didn't do all that just to have s come back to our…lifestyle. He wanted a brighter future for you guys."
"Yeah and well…I'm trying to do that." Himchan said softly.
Minseok clucked his tongue. "Sorry about Chanyeol, we got a hold of the guys in Japan and told them about you. They won't be letting anything slip."
"Good." Himchan muttered, shaking off the memories of when Chanyeol almost exposed him in front of Sang Hee.
Minseok smiled slightly, "So, why are you here, Detective Kim?"
"You're pretty well connected so I wanted to know if you heard about anyone ever asking around about me?" Himchan worded out carefully.
Minseok sat up straight, his brow furrowed in confusion, "Ask about you?"
"Yeah, about me, BAP, my work with the police, any of that stuff. Has anyone been nosing around?"
Minseok's eyes narrowed, "Yongguk was jumped out, you guys are all officially out of our world, no one would dare mess with you. You have too many allies that would take out any threat. Remember when someone threatened to expose Junhong at school? That guy isn't alive anymore."
"Yeah, I know how it works man, and that's what I thought too." Himchan said with a dry laugh, "But someone came after me an--"
"Are you sure they were related to your past and not to someone you locked up as a cop? I know how paranoid you get about your past mixed with you work as a cop." Minseok said unsurely.
Himchan looked unimpressed, "Someone tried to stab me and if it wasn't for my stupid ing partner jumping in the way, I could've died."
"Are you serious?" Minseok asked with widened, "When was this?"
Himchan leaned back in his chair, "A little over a week ago. And I keep getting taunts by someone who wants to leak my connection to B.A.P. First they sent it to Woon and now they're trying to expose me to my partner who used to work in Organized Crimes."
"So they already know who you are and they keep coming after you?" Minseok asked as his face darkened.
Himchan closed his eyes and nodded, "They're determined."
"What are we going to do?" Minseok asked seriously.
Himchan stayed silent for a moment, gathering his thoughts before peeling his eyes open and staring at his friend, "For now? It'd mean a lot if you or one your guys could do some snooping to see if anyone's asking about me."
"Sure, but that's it? Don't you want us to actually do something about it?" He asked with a frown.
Himchan shook his head and stood up, "I want to find out who's trying to mess with me before figuring out how to deal with it. I want to know what their problem is with me and I want to confront them myself. This isn't a petty turf war. This is personal."
"If you say so, but you shouldn't stay still for too long because you don't know when this person will try something again." He said in concern.
Himchan nodded and waked to the door, "I know, trust me."
"And what if the truth comes out?" Minseok said softly, "Are you prepared to deal with the consequences?"
His footsteps slowed as the thought crossed his mind, "No, I'm not, but if that time ever comes, I don't really have much of a choice, do I? I'll have to
