Chapter 24
Armed and Dangerous"Here."
Haera's eyes widened when a box of crackers were dropped in front of her. She tilted her head back and felt a blush rise on her cheeks when she saw Himchan standing behind her with his hands in his pockets.
"Where did you get this?" She asked as she stared at the box.
He shrugged and looked away with a light blush on his cheeks, "I asked Halmoni to get some for you."
"Really?"
He turned back and looked at her, his heart skipping when he saw the blinding smile on her face. He his lips nervously while trying to adjust to the sudden strange feeling in his chest.
"It's not a big deal. This way you won't get locked in the pantry trying to get some more." He said causally.
She turned and looked back at the box before pulling it open. Himchan watched her as all her attention flew to the box before his shoulders fell.
Just as he turned to walk away, he felt a tug on his shirt. He looked over at her and gulped when he saw her eyes shyly averted and her ears glowing red.
"Do you…um…want some?"
He opened his mouth but nothing came out right away. He slowly nodded while pushing up his sleeve, "Sure."
She let go of his shirt and watched him, nervously, as he walked around to sit in front of her. Her heart was pounding as he sat down in front of her.
Why was he so cute?
Himchan felt like his legs were made of jello as he sat down and did everything he could not to stare at her. After ignoring her all these months, he couldn't get her out of his head.
Why was she so cute?
"Oh my god." She blurted out, startling him.
His eyes darted up to hers and followed the finger that was pointing at him, "You're wearing it."
"Wearing wh--oh." He said quietly as he stared at his wrist. A blush raged furiously across his face as he pulled his sleeve down to hide the friendship bracelet that she made him.
She giggle and pulled her sleeve up before showing him her wrist, "I wore mine too!"
"Really? Why?" He asked curiously as he leaned forward.
She looked at the orange cloth and just shrugged, "I was waiting for whenever you decided to wear yours."
"Hey, I'm he--" Woon stopped when he saw Himchan sitting across from a young girl with an adoring look in his eyes.
Halmoni slide up next to him, "I know you want to do him a favour and be there for him but do you think you could pass for today? I think he'll be okay on his own."
"Who is she?" He asked as he softened. He knew that no matter how much money he spent on the boy or how often he came to visit him, he'd never be able to make him smile like that.
Halmoni smiled at the Haera and Himchan who were playing rock, paper scissors.
"She's his angel."
-----
"Are you kidding me?" Sang Hee snorted as she strolled out of her room, dressed for work.
Himchan grunted, "What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy."
"Do you really need to do shirtless push ups in the middle of the living room?" She said while grabbing a water bottle and taking a seat on a stool next to the kitchen counter.
He gritted his teeth while continuing his set, "It's called training. No point being a detective if you're too out of shape to chase after a perp."
"Yeah but isn't that what the precinct training rooms are for? Why are you doing it in here? Are you trying to impress me?" She teased while swinging her feet.
He snorted while he continued his push ups, "If I wanted to impress you, I wouldn't need to try so hard."
"What does that mean?" She said with a laugh.
His head was hung low as he continued with his push ups but a smile worked up his lips, "It means that all I need to do is wink at you and you'd drop your ."
"You wish I was that easy, fool." She said with a haughty laugh.
Sweat dripping off the ends of his hair as he continued to work out, "Tiger, you better count your blessings because if I ever tried to flirt with you, you might explode."
"Ewwww." She shrieked while picking up a dish towel and whipping it at him.
Himchan laughed while she took another swig of her water bottle. "Hey, come here and sit on me, I need the extra weight for resistance training. I need to make this tougher."
"Um, excuse me, I'm more than just a dumbbell." She said with a scoff.
He rolled his eyes and stayed still with his arms holding his body up, "Can you just do it?"
"Fine." She said with a sigh before standing up. She strode over to him and inspected his before flinging her body on top of his.
"!" He exclaimed, his arms giving out from under him.
He groaned as he fell flat, with her sprawled on top of him, "What the hell! I told you to sit on me, not ing body check me to the floor."
"Why not?" She asked innocently while pressing her chest against his sweaty back while her legs were stretched out perfectly on top of his.
He groaned in pain, "It's called side saddle, . How am I supposed to do this with you basically sleeping on me?"
"Come on, little boy, let's see you work." She sung.
Himchan grit his teeth together before forcing himself up by his arms and started lowering and lifting his body, slowly while his muscles trembled in strain.
She leaned her head down so that her lips were next to his ear and whispered, "Think of it as payback for the dogpile."
Himchan stilled, her breath puffing across his sweat slicked skin, sending shivers down his spin before he started back on his push ups.
"Atta boy." She sang, masking how impressed she really was.
Himchan let out a stunned breath, "Hate…you."
She snickered and rested her arms on his shoulders, "Ah, you'll be thanking me when you can take that perp down without flinching."
It was so fast she didn't even think it was humanly possible.
In a quarter of a second, Himchan managed to flip onto his back without moving her so that she was straddling him and pulled her towards him by the back of her neck with his fingers tangled in her hair.
"You've gotten really fiery, tiger." He mumbled, "I have to admit, I kinda like it."
Her eyes widened and her heart rocketed up . Her nose was pressed against hers and their lips were barely an inch apart.
His eyes were dark and masked as his teeth bit down on his bottom lip. Using his other hand, he slowly pushed his sweaty hair off his forehead and stared her down.
Sang Hee's hands shook as she pressed them next to his head. "W-Wh…what are you doing?"
Suddenly the glint in his eye changed and his lips curled into a smug smirk.
"I told you. Me flirting with you might be lethal to your health."
-----
"We need to talk."
Himchan looked up from his desk and blinked at Dong Chul and Chin Hwae staring down at him expectantly.
"Um…ok--hey!" He exclaimed when Chin Hwae grabbed Himchan's arm and hauled him into the conference room.
Dong Chul shut the door and locked it before closing the blinds. Chin Hwae shoved Himchan down in a chair before the two of them stood in front of him.
"Is this a shakedown?" He snorted.
Chin Hwae narrowed his eyes, "How can you joke at a time like this?"
"What are you talking about?" Himchan asked as his smile started to fade,
"Do you know what tomorrow is?" Dong Chul asked.
Himchan tilted his head in confusion, "No?"
"I'm going to punch him." Chin Hwae deadpanned. "I'm really going to just punch him."
Himchan balked, "What the hell is going on?"
"Sang Hee's month is up tomorrow." Dong Chul said.
Himchan's face tensed as he took a deep breath, "And?"
"And what are you going to do? What's your decision?" Chin Hwae asked.
Himchan shrugged, "Work in progress."
Chin Hwae let out a laugh that sounded fake, "I love you man, you've been there for me when I needed you to be. I'm an only child and you and Dong Chul are the closest thing I've ever had to brothers."
"Aww, thanks ma--"
"No." Chin Hwae snapped, cutting him off, "I've always trusted your leadership, but if your middle school, ing, ego is too weak that you're willing to
