THIRTY SEVEN: WHO KNOWS THE TRUTH?
Under the Cherry BlossomKris and Jessica were waiting for results outside the Emergency room. Although it had already been one hour ever since Gayeon was admitted into the hospital, there were no updates on her situation.
"Can you sit down first? You're making me giddy by walking up and down," Jessica tapped on the empty seat beside her.
"What's going on?" Kris said as he sat down dejectedly. He could no longer keep calm upon seeing her fall to the ground.
Jessica comforted him and at the same time, styled his messy hair that looked like a bird nest. After all, one shouldn't destroy the good genes God had given to them.
"Stop overthinking. If you carry on being like this, I'll be jealous," Jessica smiled and attempted to comfort him.
Jessica's words were always effective against him. Just that one sentence made Kris realise that he was worrying about other girls despite his own girlfriend being beside him.
"Sorry, I'm just..." He didn't know what to say, he was just too impatient now.
"I know."
Jessica understood how he was feeling. Understanding was one thing, but watching his boyfriend worrying about his ex was another matter. After all, Jessica was still a normal teen girl, "Contacted her family already?"
"Yeah, the nurses contacted them already and they'll arrive soon."
"Hey, can you tell me the real reason that caused the break up?" When she saw that unusual expression of Kris, she shook her head, "I'm not thinking of other things, I just want to know what exactly happened because I feel that she's hiding something from you. I can see that Gayeon isn't someone who would hurt you." If she wants to resolve the misunderstanding, she had to understand the entire situation from Kris.
Kris creased his eyebrows and stared at her for a while before confirming that she was serious.
"There isn't any clear reason. I saw her walking intimately with another guy on the streets one day. After she saw me, she simply told me that she was using me for her own gains and never once liked me. Then she told me not to ever look for her again. That's all."
Kris said it calmly, as if he was describing somebody else. However, Jessica knew that it was still a scar of his past.
"Don't you find it weird? On a side note, did you just use the 'I word'?"
"Yeah let's just forget about that."
"I've never heard a guy say the i word! Say it again."
"Anyway, what's weird?" Kris managed to dodge her and changed back the subject.
"I'll give you an example. If you were to use me for your own benefit, and I happened to see you with other girls, would you generously break up with me? Because people would usually come up with excuses to cover up their lies. Unless you weren't of any use to her anymore." The more she thought of it, the more fishy it looked to Jessica.
Kris felt confused as if Jessica made sense.
"You spent a large amount of time being with her. Do you think that she would use someone for her own benefit?"
"I... I don't know..." It was exactly because Kris didn't believe she would do this that made him so hurt.
"If I'm correct, Gayeon did it intentionally," Jessica was confident that she was right, because her instincts were never wrong.
"Then why..." Kris wanted to rush inside the ward and confront Gayeon. Why treat him like that?
When Jessica saw that dazed Kris, she managed to pull out a smile, "As for why, we have to ask Gayeon herself."
Did she make the correct move?
After Kris knew the truth, perhaps the one crying would be Jessica herself.
Kris didn't notice her distracted expression because he was staring deeply at the emergency room's door.
At this moment, a young man came running in and went straight to the nurse. "Sorry, I'm late. I'm Gayeon's family member," He then turned to the couple who had helped Gayeon.
"Eh? It's you?" He was speechless after seeing Kris.
"You know him?"
"No, I don't..." He definitely didn't know him, but Kris found him familiar. Then reality hit him and he remembered where exactly he had seen him before.
"You are her..." He was sure who he was now. Family?
That guy was the one Kris had seen Gayeon with. He was the one Gayeon truly said she liked.
The truth had surfaced, they were still together and they were family.
Kris wanted to laugh. There were definitely no misunderstandings. Even if there was, it was because he had to overthink. They were a matching couple, but as for Kris, he was nothing.
He grabbed Jessica's hand, "Let's go."
Jessica raised her eyebrows as if she wanted to say something. However, she did not utter a word and left with him.
"You don't want to know her diagnosis?" Jessica asked Kris as soon as they stepped out of the hospital.
Kris bitterly smiled and shook his head, "No need to, as long as someone is with her."
"In the end, his heart is still with Gayeon..." Jessica thought. She felt like the last flower petal surviving on a cherry blossom tree. Any gentle wind would definitely make
her fall.
