TWENTY THREE: DILEMMA

Under the Cherry Blossom

The rain got rid of the autumn heat and brought a cool weather during September.

Jessica, who was supposed to be busy with work in the council room was instead pouring a cup of herbal tea and looking far outside the window.

The Council members all settled their work carefully and quietly as they were afraid to disrupt the President's deep thoughts.

Nana rested her head on the table and admired her idol.

"Yeppuda~ Even the scene of her drinking is so mesmerising! It's like a beautiful painting, I bet even the genius artist Oh Sehun can't draw a painting that beautiful." She mumbled to herself.

"Do you think that President has been in a bad mood recently?" A member couldn't help but to gossip.

"Her eyes look so depressing…" Another member joined in.

Nana made a 'tsk' sound and raised her finger while shaking her head, "Kris Wu applied for sick leave these few days, of course she would be worried," Nana said it so naturally and had totally forgotten that she once treated him like a toad.

"Ah so it's like that!"
"Nana you understand her the most!"
"Of course, I'm always by her side."
Blahblahblah.

The more they gossips, the noisier they became. Jessica helplessly glanced at the gossip girls - Kris was right. She really did too much work in the past that led to her members having no sense of urgency. She should learn to let go some work one day to prevent herself from being a tired old bull when her members still had time to gossip.

It was the third day that Kris had applied for sick leave; he had never once said he was uncomfortable. It was impossible to say that Jessica wasn't worried due to his sudden sick leave.
He would always stick to him like a glue despite her attempts to chase him away. It felt a bit uncomfortable now that it suddenly became quieter. Should she visit him? Even normal friends would visit their friend and she was more than a normal friend, so it would be okay to visit him right? The thought or visiting his house made her disturbed. If she visits him, she would see his parents. She didn't want to complicate matters and she couldn't guarantee that she would leave a good impression… In conclusion, she was a coward.

It's funny how the usual calm and collected Jessica Jung would be so coward to visit someone; even she couldn't believe it.

She returned back to her desk and looked at her monitor screen. The students' data was saved inside that computer including Kris's address, contact number and other relevant information. It was one of the perks as a president - she could get any kind of data she wanted.

She copied down his address on her phone while she continued to ponder about whether she should visit him.

Kris had never once mentioned to her about his family, the only time was when she asked him why he had to earn his living fee, she remembered that he had a cold expression then. Jessica guessed that he had a tensed relationship with his family or even beyond that. Would it bother him if she visits?

Come to think of it, the exams were drawing near and Kris would be in danger if he continued skipping classes. It would be hard for them to meet if he got swapped out of the class. She should at least bring him his notes.

"Aigoo…" Jessica sighed and was in a dilemma.

"President is sighing," one of the gossips girl said. It was obvious that they were staring at her each and every move.

"President must be so sad, I bet that she wants to be by his side right? Aigoo…" Nana followed her idol and sighed as well.

"Have you heard of something regarding Kris?"  Gossip girl said.

"What?"

"I heard this from someone else outside Songin High. Kris was from an elite school before he came into Songin High. He wasn't just an average students, he was one of the popular people. Nobody knows the reason why he came to our school."

"Jjinja? Popular? He doesn't look like one." The girls let our gasps and were shocked. Everyone knew that the elite school, also known as Yeonsoo Academy, specialised in developing elite students. Although Songin high was decent, they could never best the standards of Yeonsoo Academy

"I know right? At first I thought he just happened to have the same name as the guy in Yeonsoo Academy. That day after he performed, my friend from the Academy immediately recognised him."

"Wa!" Another wave of gasps and shocks.

"Then why was he so dull looking in our school?" Nana asked the question that everyone had in their mind.

"I heard from my friend that Kris Wu had a super pretty girlfriend before he came here!"

"Eh?!" Once again, there were gasps and shocks.

"I heard that their relationship was so good that they were THE couple in school, but something happened and they broke up. The girl transferred to another school. Basically nobody had ever seen her again."

Nana's eyes opened widely, "Does that mean that President Jung is a substitute? Those that always happen in dramas! A when the male lead loses his love, he will move on to another person to comfort himself. Eh? What's wrong with you guys? Why are y'all winking so much?"

"Im Jin Ah, are you that free?" the familiar voice popped out behind her and forced Nana to have goosebumps.
"President…" Dead. She was so dead.

Jessica still had a warm smile but her eyes were icy cold as if they would freeze the sun.

"Looks like you are free right? Then help me settle all those documents on my table, I'll leave first."

Nana could only listen to her idol. She dragged her feet and carried the documents back to the table. Jessica saw her pitiful look but seriousness in settling the work. She nodded and left.

She had never intended to be that angry at Nana, she just needed an excuse to let someone else take over her work. But their conversation made her feel uncomfortable. If they were speaking the truth, then it should be the reason why Kris became like that.

Was that ex girlfriend of his the secret that he has deep down inside him? She clearly knew that she shouldn't be concerned about his past but  deep down inside, she wanted to know.

Substitute… Nana really had an imaginative kind. She wasn't concerned about being a substitute because she knew that Kris wasn't the type to do something that stupid.

Still, what exactly happened? Why made him become so anti social? What made him the way he is now? The questions that she had never meant to ask was all slowly popping out one by one.

She wanted to know. She wanted to understand what happened in the past.

She was also a normal teenage girl right? Even if she ignored the questions, it doesn't mean that the questions don’t exist. She overestimated herself, she thought that she would be able to not care about any of his past but now that she knew she couldn't do that, she couldn't calm down anymore.

Jessica looked at the address saved in his phone and took the bus towards his house.
