Forty eight

Forty eight
“Oppa wake up” he felt her lightly shaking his shoulder. He opened his eyes to find her resting in his arms. It was too dark to see her face. That was unusual, the street lights always reflected into their room, and she always left a crack in the curtains since she felt uncomfortable in the dark.
“What’s wrong baby?” he was still in a sleepy haze but he knew she only wakes him when it’s urgent.
“It’s really dark oppa…” he glanced over to find the curtains shut. He really hoped she didn’t wake him just to open the draperies. “And the power is out in our house”
He slowly sat straight, causing her to follow. “It’s just a power outage baby. Go back to sleep it’ll be fixed by morning”
“But it’s only out in our house” he sighed and got up, just to end her argument, and walked to the curtains, opening it to see the entire street lights working. She was right; it was only out in their house. He left the curtains open and went back to hold her, she relaxed into his arms immediately. “It’s alright. We’ll fix that too by morning” she nodded.
The room was lit enough now, she could go back to sleep. His hand went to her waist to bring her closer to him since he knew she really hated the dark.

“Oppa wake up” he heard her calling him again, sounding frightened.
“Umm”
“Do you hear that” she whispered and fell silent.
He kept quiet for a few minutes. “I don’t hear anything baby. You’re just imagining things, go back to sleep…”
“But I really did hear something. It sounded like screeching” that was a bit much. He knew by practice that it was going to be a very long night and she’ll probably scream in her sleep sometime soon. His only hope was to try and fix the electricity and leave the lights open all night for her.
He got up and was ready to walk out when she stopped him, holding his wrist. “Where are you going?”
“I’ll check the feeder pillar…”
Her jaw dropped and she immediately got up, tightening her hold on his wrist. “No!”
“Why?”
“That’s always what happens in movies, you’ll take too long and then I’ll go down after you and then he’ll get us”
“Who’ll get us?”
“The serial killer, or the prisoner that escaped. I read it somewhere you know, there have recently been a lot of thefts around the area” he groaned. She’s obviously been watching horror movies behind his back. “Let’s just go back to sleep oppa. I’m sure it’s nothing”
While he knew she was just trying to stop him from going down, he found it cute that she got so worried about him. He nodded and climbed the bed again, followed by her. They lied for around two minutes when he heard a noise downstairs. It wasn’t exactly like screeching, it seemed a bit more like scraping. Like someone dragging a chain on the ground, a very bad contemplations, considering the assumed prison breaks.
She immediately sat straight and shook his shoulder with more force. “Tell me you heard that one”
“Heard what baby?” She shook her head and got up, reaching for her phone. “What’re you doing?”
“I’ll call the police”
