Forty four
Reasons
Forty four
Their vacation was almost over. They both agreed to pay a visit to Mrs. Kang’s house. She seemed really warm and they both enjoyed their small conversation with her. He walked her to the address, losing their way almost immediately. She nagged him to ask someone for directions, insisting on a man nearby. He scolded her, leading up to an argument and them refusing to talk to each other. They would’ve gone back if Mrs. Kang didn’t find them, her house being right in front of them the whole time.
They didn’t fight. It was very rare for them and the reasons were always stupid enough to get solved instantly. Things like her giving him a kiss could easily solve their minor conflicts.
“Darling, they’re the ones I told you about” Mr. Kang looked up from his newspaper to find his wife walking in with a young couple.
“Good morning, sir” they both greeted and bowed, he remembered his wife talking about them. She told him they were very cheerful. The ones in front of him didn’t seem exactly cheerful.
“Good morning”
She led them into the living room and gestured them to take a seat, her husband following behind. “Can you get me the tea Soo anne brought?” he nodded and slowly made his way into the kitchen. She sat facing them, noticing they left a very wide space in between them.
Her husband walked back in, placing the tea in front of them. Seung gi got up to help him pour it and hand it to everyone, avoiding eye contact with her. Mr. Kang went to sit near his wife, his arm going around her shoulder. It was a habit for them to sit like that, a thirty years old habit.
“Our daughter brought this tea from japan”
“Oh I always wanted to go there” she leaned back against the sofa.
“Did you? Well you should go; Soo anne says it’s very beautiful, she met her husband there”
“Umm. I heard Japanese men are great lovers” she heard him snorting beside her. “They say they’re amazing in bed”
“Bae Suzy!” he turned to scowl in her direction. She defiantly returned.
“Why don’t you show her the camellias we planted?” he gestured his wife and she nodded, getting up and taking Suzy with her before she managed a protest, leaving the men in the room.
