Chapter 23

Two Different Worlds

When most of the girls would go crazy when they received a text message from Asia’s leading boy band’s leader saying he was waiting for them in front of their house, being the oddly stupid that I always was, instead of doing so, I ended up thinking, “Is this guy drunk?”

Jung Soo sounded like drunk, or like a Romeo who was waiting for his Juliet. The second option definitely didn’t even make any sense, so I went to the first one.

I glanced at the clock on my table. Past midnight.

Dad would interrogate me like a terrorist if he found out that I sneaked outside the house to meet someone who was ten years older than me. Mum would cry a river mistaking me as a pedobear’s new target. But that was only if they caught me. As long as I didn’t get busted, I’d be just fine...

But I didn’t have to meet him at all. What for? Okay, before I said I missed him. But that ain’t practically mean I wanted to see him... OK too many buts, I really want to see him.

My body moved by itself and the next thing I knew... I was already outta the house, standing in the darkness of the night. It was so freaking cold out here. I cursed myself for not taking my jacket with me.

My phone suddenly vibrated again. “Right in front of you,” Jung Soo texted me.

I automatically looked up and saw a white Audi parked across the street. Similar, but I recognized that it wasn’t his car.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?” That was the first thing he said when I got inside the car.

The evil side of me decided to a bit. “I actually was. But you texted me so then I woke up.” I yawned.

Jung Soo’s face was suddenly filled with guilt. “Ah really?” He looked sad. “I’m so sorry for interrupting your sleep. You better go back now.”

“Jung Soo-ssi,” I began. “I was joking. I wouldn’t give up my sleep just to see you.”

“Ah yah! Why weren’t you sleeping? It’s very late, don’t you have school tomorrow?!” There he goes again... He sounded more like my father than my soon-to-be-boyfriend.

I mumbled, “I always have trouble with sleeping at night.” I continued, “Why are you here, anyway?”

Jung Soo shyly smiled and bit his lip. “Uum, ______-ah, are you free this Friday?”

I almost choked. My heart starts to beat even faster now. “I have school, why?”

He looked slightly disappointed. “I will perform live on TV with Super Junior this Friday. I thought you probably would want to see me and the boys..., um perform live..., in the studio...”

Wait, wait, wait, is he talking about what Gaby told me earlier? The Mu- something?“I would want to!” I half shouted. Oh my God. “I’m sorry. I meant, I would love to go. When and where?”

Jung Soo beamed. “Really?!?! Friday, at 6 pm, in KBS Studio. I’ll text you the address!”

“Jung Soo-ssi, can I bring a friend?” I asked him very shyly and carefully.

His eyebrows furrowed a bit. “Ye Eun? Of course you can bring her! Just... um,” he bit his lower lip again. “Don’t tell her that I told you to come.” He was clearly in doubt.

I got him. He wanted to keep whatever we were now as a secret. So did I. I just didn’t want to share it to anyone else just yet. “No. Not Ye Eun. Someone close to me.” I saw Jung Soo’s facial expression slowly turning hesitant. I quickly continued, “She’s a big fan of yours and she flew from my country to South Korea just to see you and your group. And anyway, she doesn’t know that we actually know each other and I don’t have any plan to tell her.”

“She came to Korea just to meet me?!” Jung Soo was amused. “WOW! Of course you can bring her! You should bring her!” He excitedly exclaimed. “A foreign fan! I feel so appreciated.” He looked so happy. I can’t... He’s so nice, I can’t...

“Thank you so much, Jung Soo-ssi,” my voice trembled a bit. “It’ll mean a lot to her.”

Jung Soo softly smiled and gently my hair. “It’ll also mean a lot to me... If a fan is present to support me, and if you come and see me.”

The way he smiled had successfully weakened me. It gave butterflies in my stomach. I like him, I like him so much! I don’t know since when and why I started to feel this way, but I really like him now. My heart is beating so fast it will explode now!

After he went home, I went back to my room. Before I fell asleep, my phone vibrated once again. Nice dreams ^^ I slept really well that night.

In front of KBS Building, Friday August 5, 5 pm

Okay. So many people here. Gaby and I held each other’s arm just in case we might get lost here.

Gaby squealed in happiness, “I can’t believe I’m seeing Super Junior! I feel like crying now.”

“But Gab,” I turned to see her face. “You’re not crying, right?” I checked her face cautiously. She couldn’t cry here, everyone would think I hurt her or something. I didn’t want to make a scene.

“Of course I’m not!” Gaby yelled. “Yet...” She continued in a weak tone.

I completely understood that it was a very emotional moment for her, though.

“Who is the nice friend who gave us free access to come here without registering first?” Gaby asked me.

“Ah, someone from school,” I lied nervously.

“I want to thank her personally,” she said.

ASDFGHJKL.“No, you don’t need to.” Because there’s no such person! She’s just an imaginary character I created to hide the real identity of the person who gave us the access, which is the leader of Super Junior itself, Park Jung Soo, I continued inside my mind. “She knows how thankful you are.”

Gaby slightly pouted. “Don’t forget to tell her how grateful I really am,” she sincerely said. I just nodded.

We went inside the building. I told Gaby to wait in the lobby while I searched for the receptionist desk. Jung Soo texted me yesterday, he instructed me to go find the receptionist and just say that someone named Yeonwoo put something there for me.

“Good evening, Miss. What can I do to help you?” The receptionist girl greeted me in English. Maybe because of my look.

“Um, did someone named Yeonwoo leave something here for me?” I replied her in Korean.

She smiled knowingly. “Ah yes, wait a minute, please.” She then phoned someone to come over here. Not until a minute later, a man in his middle twenties came. He wore a white shirt and looked like a TV staff. “He’ll show you the way, Miss. Hope you enjoy the show.” She politely smiled.

I turned to the man and he said, “Come with me please, Miss.”

I picked Gaby up and then the both of us followed that man. Gaby held my hand so tight. She kept whispering to herself, “Oh my God... Super Junior... I’m seeing you guys.” She was nervous. To the max.

The man led us inside the studio room which was almost full of people. He brought us to this place in the left side of the stage, apart from the fans and other audience. We could clearly see the stage from here, yet it was a bit hidden. People wouldn’t notice us here. Perfect place. I smiled.

Gaby and I thanked the man. We bowed to him. “Thank you so much.”

He bowed and smiled before leaving us there alone.

Shortly after that, some more people came inside the studio and the show began. I didn’t know all the groups that were performing because I simply didn’t follow K-Pop. Gaby seemed to know most of the songs. She enjoyed it. I glanced to her and she looked so happy.

Approximately an hour later, it was finally Super Junior’s turn to perform. They came up on the stage and everyone cheered so loudly. Gaby yelled hysterically, “OMG! SUPER JUNIOR!”

I saw them. All of them wore black formal suits except one, Siwon, who was only wearing white shirt and gun holsters. I scanned through all of their faces and finally spotted Jung Soo. My heart skipped a beat. He looked so cool. So full of charisma. He transformed from an annoying yet cute ahjussi into the most charming man up there.

“OH MY ING GOD! SUNGMIN OPPA!” Gaby shouted. She pointed at a person. I followed her stare and saw- OH MOTHER ER OF ALL THE GOODNESS IN THE UNIVERSE! SUNGMIN! Where is the cute Sungmin I saw weeks ago?! HE’S SUCH A BAMF HERE, OH JESUS CHRIST! What is the feeling they’re giving right now?! So different!

The music started and Eunhyuk was the first one to sing. Or rap, in his case. Gaby shouted again, “OH THIS IS THE SONG THEY SANG IN LAST YEAR’S GAYO DAEJUN! SUPERMAN! OH MY! I’VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!” Did she like, remember all the songs the boys have sung in their life, or what? But I didn’t say anything though.

After that Gaby chilled down and she watched the performance quietly. Her eyes were literally sparkling again and I swore I saw a tear rolling down her cheek. Did she just cry? Because of Super Junior?

I put my hand on her shoulder and squeezed it a bit. She looked at me and mouthed, “Thank you.” No Gaby, thanks to Jung Soo..., I just couldn’t mouth that back.

Super Junior performed twice. The second song they sang was their title track Mr. Simple. I danced to the song and so did Gaby. She even sang along with them. I noted myself to find and buy the album after this. When it was Jung Soo’s turn, I screamed my lung out. Haha. Seriously. He rapped some lines and I exploded~ The guy I really liked was up there... Performing with his group and looking too good. Everyone cheered for him, everyone worshipped him. I couldn’t keep myself from not thinking, “Am I good enough to have the rights to like him? Do I deserve to have him?” I couldn’t help but feel so inferior. He didn’t even see me in the crowds. ;A;

After the show ended, Gaby and I quickly went out. She thought maybe she could see them on their way out of the building. But seeing that it was very crowded in the artists’ parking lot, I pulled Gaby to my car. “We’re definitely not going there.”

Gaby pouted but split seconds later, she cheered. “Then let’s just go to Handel and Gretel!”

“What is that?” I stupidly asked.

Gaby answered, “It’s Yesung’s new coffee shop! Let’s go there!”

“Stop dreaming. I don’t even know where that is.”

“But I do,” she coolly said. I widened my eyes. SHE DOES? GABY DOES? SHE’S BEEN HERE FOR ONLY THREE DAYS! WHAT IS SHE ACTUALLY?! A STAN? “Yesung posted the routes that lead to Handel and Gretel on his Twitter. Lemme find the picture and guide you there~”

I’M JUST SIMPLY BANNED FROM OBJECTING HER WISH, RIGHT?!?!

Chapter 69: Fun while it lasted?! How sad it can last longer! I really want an ending to this story! You should definitely continue writing though. Maybe you could do an epilogue-y conclusion thing in a separate two-shot to finish the story and show off your improved writing
