Xiuhan

Our Story

It was their last week in China and they had been granted two days. The first day, they had gone sightseeing. It had been a long and fun day, Luhan couldn't remember how many times he had laughed. They had gone to some ancient temples and Kris had almost been forced to become a monk. Chen had eaten more weird things. Lay had gotten lost 6 times amongst the busy crowd and had even managed to lose one of his shoes; Luhan had no idea how. Tao had managed to take 50 selcas in a day, which Luhan found extremely impressive, if not slightly strange. And, of course, Xiumin. He had been smiling so much yesterday, it had made Luhan so happy. He was laughing and joking around, eating scorpions (a bit reluctantly) and he had held Luhan's hand. It had definitely been a great day.

It was now the next day and everyone was relaxing. Xiumin had gone out to get the groceries and although Luhan had insisted that he should go with him, Xiumin had refused, telling him to relax and that he would be back. Luhan had reluctantly gone back to the bedroom. He was now pacing, feeling bored. He heard a knock on his door and quickly went over, expecting it to be Xiumin. It was Lay.

Luhan tried to mask his disappointment. Lay saw through it. "Aya, can you not survive 5 minutes without Minseokg-ge?" Lay questioned smacking the shorter boy's head. Luhan huffed. "Shut up." He mumbled, closing the door as Lay walked in. They spent the next few minutes chatting when Luhan remembered something. "Hey, Yixing, remember our concert with EXO-K?" Luhan asked, turning to look at the younger boy. Lay nodded. "What about it?" He asked.

"Well, Xiumin and me saw a sign that said 'Xiuhan'? What's that?" He recalled. Lay tilted his head in confusion. "Xiuhan? I've never heard of that. Did they just spell Xiumin's name wrong?" He asked innocently. Luhan smacked him. "How can they misspell Xiumin? Han and Min are two completely different characters!" Luhan protested. Lay nodded then stopped. "Han? Isn't that part of your name? Lu-han? Was it the same character as your name?" Lay asked curiously. Luhan thought. "Yeah, Yeah it was! I didn't even realize until now!" He said excitedly then he paused. "But what does it mean?" He asked Lay. "Xiu for Xiumin, Han as in Luhan... hmm, OH!" Lay suddenly yelled out clapping his hands in realization.

"What is it?" Luhan asked excitedly. "Xiuhan. It is a mixture of your names-Xiumin and Luhan. Don't you see? It's your ship name!" Lay said. Couple name? What was that? Lay must have seen his look of confusion. "A 'ship' is when you want two people to be together, the 'ship name' is your name for the couple, often a combination of the two people's names." He explained. Luhan flushed. "W-wait, does that mean.." He trailed off. Lay smiled, nodding. "Our fans want you and Xiumin to be together." He confirmed. Luhan couldn't stop the grin. "You're joking! That's completely ridiculous!" He said although he was thinking about how they had the best fans ever. "Why bother making excuses with me? I already know you like-" Luhan clamped his hand over Lay's mouth.

"Announce it to the world, why don't you?" He hissed, glaring at the clueless boy. "Alright, Alright!" Lay laughed, his voice muffled because of Luhan's hand. Luhan removed his hand, wiping it on Lay's shirt. He thought about the name, Xiuhan. "It sounds nice though, doesn't it?" Luhan commented distractedly, a sweet, dazed smile on his face. Lay turned to look at his friend, smiling at his obvious affection for Xiumin.

"It sure does."

Luhan heard the doorbell ring and immediately ran to the door. He opened it and was met with the sight of a smiling Xiumin with one of the managers. He had his mask off now. His arms were piled with bags. "What took so long?" Luhan whined at the puppy-like boy. Xiumin just smiled. "It didn't take that long." He said. Luhan just shook his head, taking the bags from Xiumin before the boy could even protest.

"Come on." He called behind his shoulder, walking into the kitchen. He began to take out the items. "You didn't get anything but junk food. I mean, not that I'm complaining but-" Luhan began to ramble. Xiumin laughed. "Dude, this is for the party." He said. Luhan stopped taking items out and looked at Xiumin in confusion. "What party?" He asked, tilting his head. Xiumin smacked his head lightly. "Aish, this kid. The party Kris was talking about yesterday after we came back." Xiumin prompted, staring at Luhan expectantly.

Luhan furrowed his eyebrows. After coming back yesterday, he remembered Kris saying something. He just couldn't remember what it was. He had been too busy staring at Xiumin's hair, it had looked so pretty that night. After seeing Luhan didn't know, Xiumin laughed. "Ah Lu-ge." He said fondly, ruffling Luhan's head. Luhan scowled at the shorter boy before patting his hair down, pretending to be annoyed although he secretly loved Xiumin's touch. "Ya!" He mumbled, turning away from the boy. "Aw, don't be mad." Xiumin cooed. Luhan felt the boy come closer until suddenly two arms were wrapped around his waist.

Luhan flushed. Xiumin was hugging him. Oh god, calm down! Luhan, calm down. "Don't be mad at me." Xiumin's sweet voice broke through Luhan's thoughts. Luhan relaxed at the boy's voice. "I'm not mad." He mumbled, not wanting the shorter boy to let go. He did, of course. Luhan turned to see the boy smiling sweetly at him. "Kris said we would be having a party before leaving to celebrate the success of Wolf in China. It's today. We're allowed to eat as much junk food as we want so I bought a lot." Xiumin said, his eyes shining with excitement. Luhan couldn't prevent the grin that came on his face from seeing the boy's excitement.

"It was hard though, I had no idea what the food said in Chinese. I just bought based on what it looked like." Xiumin went on, a bit sheepishly. "That's why you should have let me come with you!" Luhan said. "The manager came with me. I thought he would help but he just sat in the car." Xiumin justified. Luhan wrapped an arm around the boy's shoulder. "Next time, I'm coming." He said into the boy's ear, his heart beating faster because of their close proximity. Xiumin looked at Luhan. "Alright." He smiled. "Hyung-" Lay came in and stopped in his tracks.

"Oh sorry." He said, turning around. "Lay, what's wrong?" Xiumin asked confused, not realizing that with how Luhan had his arm wrapped around Xiumin's shoulder, and how they had only been a few inches away from each other, it had looked like they were going to kiss. Luhan realized however and thanked the gods that Xiumin was clueless when it came to things like this. "Lay, come back." He said through gritted teeth. Lay turned around, smirking. "I'm not interrupting anything?" He asked acting innocent. "What would you be interrupting?" Xiumin asked confused. Luhan just glared at the boy. Lay shook his head, trying very hard not to laugh. "Kris just told me to help you set the snacks up." He explained. "Why doesn't he ever help? He's younger than me!" Xiumin complained. "He's lazy." Luhan commented. "Hey!" Kris chose that moment to come in the room.

"I was just coming to help." Kris grumbled before beginning to whine like a baby. Xiumin walked over to him, trying to calm down the sulky tall boy. Luhan chose that moment to talk to Lay. "Dude, stop. I told you, we're just friends." Luhan hissed through gritted teeth. Lay just stared at him. "It didn't look like that. Besides, you don't even want to be just friends. Why not make a move?" Lay asked, equally frustrated. "You know why." Luhan said curtly before turning away from the boy.

~

"Here's to success!" Kris toasted with his glass of coke. Everyone raised their glasses, cheering. Luhan turned to see Xiumin. The boy was smiling. Good, Luhan thought. It had become a habit of his, once in a while, to look at Xiumin, just to make sure the boy was smiling. Luhan, after months of observation, could now differentiate between the boy's smiles, expressions, laughs and gestures and knew what each meant. That may be a bit creepy, but Luhan just wanted Xiumin to be happy all the time and would do whatever he could to make sure the boy was genuinely happy.

Xiumin noticed Luhan looking at him and smiled back at the boy, giving him a thumbs up. Luhan smile widened. "Okay, guys! Let's tuck in." Kris announced. Luhan's attention was soon captured by the food as he teared packet after packet of food, stuffing himself. He offered Xiumin a bit of seaweed, expecting the boy to take it from Luhan. He was pleasantly surprised when the boy just ate it from Luhan's fingers. He smiled. "Hey, let's watch a movie!" Tao eagerly suggested. "Mmm!" Luhan agreed with a mouth full of crisps. He got up to help the boy find a movie.

Once it had been set up, Chen turned the lights off. Luhan took a place next to Xiumin on the sofa. "I turned Korean subtitles on." Luhan told Xiumin and Chen. "Thanks." Xiumin mumbled, his voice muffled from the food he was eating. He passed some crisps to Luhan who eagerly ate them. After all, it wasn't every day that idols like themselves could stuff themselves. As they watched the horror film, Luhan felt normal. The atmosphere was just like he had invited his friends over to watch a movie. He hadn't done that in a long time and he couldn't help but miss those moments. He sighed contentedly, leaning against Xiumin. Xiumin, who was focused on the film, unconcsiously took Luhan's hand, it. Luhan smiled. They continued watching the movie.

His focus on the movie was broken when he heard sniffles. He looked to see Tao crying quietly. "Tao, what the heck? Are you crying?" He questioned incredulous at the boy. "It's so sad." Tao mumbled. "It's a horror movie." Xiumin laughed. "I'm emotional, it's not my fault." Tao defended himself. "Shh, I can't hear." Lay said, his voice filled with annoyance. Everyone shut up, choosing to ignore Tao's crying.

It was in the last few minutes or so when Luhan felt something hit his shoulder. He turned to see Xiumin's head leaning against his shoulder. The boy had fallen asleep. He smiled. Xiumin looked beautiful even when asleep. His hair was a bit messed up. His long eyelashes framed his face perfectly. His plump lips were parted slightly, his chest rising and falling softly with each breath. He was perfect.

Luhan got up carefully. He picked up Xiumin bridal style. "He fell asleep. I'll take him to his room." Luhan explained quietly to the boys. They nodded, focus still on the movie. Luhan climbed up the stairs. Xiumin wasn't light, but neither was he heavy. His weight was comforting and real as it pressed on Luhan. Xiumin suddenly turned, mumbling incoherently before wrapping his arms around Luhan's neck.

Luhan flushed, his heart beat suddenly going up. He couldn't stop the grin that came on his face and tried to hide it by biting his lip. He walked towards the room, fumbling to open the door. Once he got it open, he walked in. He set Xiumin on the bed lightly, carefully. Xiumin laid down. Luhan put a blanket on the boy, covering him up. He turned to leave but felt someone pull at his shirt. He turned to see Xiumin staring through half-closed eyes. "Lu-ge..." He whispered.

"What is it?" Luhan asked, leaning closer.

"Stay." The voice, spoken in a sleepy but firm voice immediately made Luhan slip into the bed. He turned to Xiumin. "There." He whispered happily at the shorter boy. Xiumin smiled, before huddling closer to Luhan. Luhan wrapped his arm, a bit hesitantly, around Xiumin's waist, bringing the boy closer. Xiumin allowed it. Luhan smiled. "Hey, Xiumin." He whispered. Xiumin opened one eye. "Yeah?" He asked.

I think I love you. He wanted to say that. He should have said that. But what came out was "I found out what Xiuhan is."

"What is it?" Xiumin whispered sleepily. "It's our ship name." Luhan said. "We have a ship name?" Xiumin mused. "Yeah.. am I the only one who didn't know what a ship was?" Luhan asked suddenly. Xiumin giggled quietly. "Probably. You're dumb." He said affectionately to Luhan, smiling to show he was joking. Luhan just smiled back. "Yeah, I kind of am." He agreed. But not in the way you may think, he added silently.

"Goodnight, Lu-ge." Xiumin whispered.

"Goodnight, Baozi." Luhan whispered back.

A smack was heard followed by giggles from both boys. Soon, the room was quiet save for the sound of the boy's light breathing, following each other, creating a beautiful melody in the night.

Chapter 80: I finally completed your story. (I wanted to finish it way much earlier... >_>) And I really have to say that your story was incredible. The whole story seemed so realistic and I really liked they way you took your time with establishing the relationship between Xiumin and Luhan. Also all the dialogues, movements or gestures from the characters seemed so real, I felt like actually beeing in EXO's dorm viewing a movie while standing on the set myself and seeing everything from such a closeness, because the way you wrote I could really imagine every scene so well and it was such a pleasure to read your story, because you used a wide range of vocabulary and used good terms.
Luhan was so sweet in this story, I am happy that you didn't make him the bad guy and Xiumin and him somehow managed to move on their own way. They deserved so much better.
Not only had Kris's leave a huge impact on the whole group (btw love it, that you showed every single member at that part.), but also Xiumin's sadness at the end, not beeing able to let out his emotions, not wanting to selfish rubs off on the reader as well.
I don't even know how to express all what I am feeling and how happy I am to have read this story. It was the fluffiest of fluff, as romatic as love poem and yet sad and realistic.
Just like the two of them I won't forget. I will come back and read your story again.
I cannot help but hope for them to find happiness.
