The Shopping Date

Our Story

Xiumin and Luhan interwined their hands as they walked in the direction of the coffee shop. The managers had told them to seperate into groups of two or three (12 boys would draw attention) and they were allowed to go anywhere as long as they returned by 5:00pm (4 hours from now). They were given a budget (much to Tao's dismay) and had to stay in that budget in whatever they bought. Xiumin had asked where they should go and Luhan had insisted that he had a plan.

First on their agenda was a coffee trip. Luhan and Xiumin had simply picked the closest one. It wasn't very big but it was quite crowded, a lot of the seats already occupied. Xiumin quickly looked for a seat and finally found one, a seat right next to the window. Luhan and Xiumin exchanged a glance before shrugging simultaneously and heading to it. Luhan hurried over to one of the seats and pulled it out, gesturing for Xiumin to sit down. Xiumin couldn't help but laugh, the mask made it sound slightly muffled. "Are you serious?" He asked Luhan. Luhan nodded. "Of course, I'm the man of our relationship." He stated as if it were obvious. Xiumin went over to the other side and pulled out Luhan's chair. "We're both men." He replied before going over to his side and sitting down.

Although he couldn't see through the mask, Xiumin was pretty sure Luhan was smiling.

"What do you think of this?" Luhan asked Xiumin, holding up a snapback. Xiumin glanced at it. "It's nice." He said simply. "Really? You don't sound very convincing." Luhan persisted, raising his eyebrow. Xiumin didn't bother smiling, you couldn't see anything from the mask anyway. "Don't you think this would be better?" He said, pointing at what he thought was a better snapback. Luhan turned around, looking at the snapback and picking it up. "Are you sure?" He asked, his voice sounding uncertain. Xiumin shrugged. "That's what I like." He said. Luhan turned around. "Do you really like it?" Luhan asked.

Xiumin nodded. "Yeah." He said. "Then I'm buying it." Luhan stated as he walked towards the cash register. Xiumin's eyes widened and he grabbed Luhan's arm. "Ya! Don't buy it for me!" Xiumin said quickly. Luhan turned around. "Why not? You like it." Luhan said, sounding genuinely confused. Xiumin sighed. "It's not fair for you to always buy me stuff." Xiumin replied. Luhan cocked his head. "But I don't mind. I like buying stuff for you." He retorted, his voice sincere. Xiumin leaned in and gave Luhan a pinch on the cheek. "That's sweet. But really, I'd rather buy my own things." He said firmly. Luhan's cheeks were slightly red. "Alright, if you say so." The boy mumbled and with the mask, it was almost incoherent.

~

"Oh god." Xiumin said as he finally removed the mask. They had gone to the bathroom and seeing that no one was there, Xiumin and Luhan had removed their masks for a while. Xiumin took giant gulps of the air. Luhan smiled at him. "You're so cute." He said. Xiumin just rolled his eyes at that. They had spent an hour and half trying on different clothes together. It had been hilarious, they had pissed off the shopping assistants a lot. They had giggled while they had changed (in separate rooms of course), talking as they changed in a way that even teenager girls would be embarrassed to see.

They had, in the end, picked 2 shirts each as well as a hat each. All in all, it had been pretty successful. The atmosphere had been relaxed and comfortable, their laughs easy and their hands had been interwined for almost the entire trip. It was probably the best day so far, Xiumin thought. He told Luhan so. The boy grinned. "Any day can become the best when I'm with you." The boy commented cheesily. Xiumin smacked his arm before placing a sweet kiss on his lips. "You need to stop saying such cheesy comments. You might influence our dongsaengs. Then, none of them will get a girlfriend." Xiumin said to him. Luhan gave a grimace. "None of them will get girlfriends anyway. I mean, have you seen them?" Luhan teased. Xiumin laughed at that.

"What should we do with the remaining time?" Xiumin asked him. Luhan smiled. "Let's go get ice cream." He suggested, his eyes sparkly with happiness. Xiumin bit his lip. "I don't think we should. I mean, you can but I shouldn't. I have to be on a diet or I'll get fat again." Xiumin reminded. Luhan's sparkly eyes darkened slightly. "You're not fat." Luhan said firmly. Xiumin gave a smile to lighten the situation. "It's okay. I don't mean it that way. It's just, I need to manage my weight for our performances." Xiumin said, trying to make his voice sound happy and carefree. Luhan was adorably protective when it came to Xiumin's looks, especially his weight. Xiumin himself understood why he had to be on a diet and didn't really mind most of the time. He had gotten used to it.

"But it's our date. We rarely get to go on dates! Please? Just this once." Luhan pleaded, morphing his facial features into a cute puppy-dog look, jutting his bottom lip out and pouting. Xiumin closed his eyes. "Ugh, don't give me that look." He complained. Luhan giggled. "Please baozi?" He asked. Xiumin turned away and washed his hands again, trying to ignore the boy. That was a stupid idea; no one could ignore Luhan. "Baozi. Baozi. Baozi. Baozi. Baozi." Luhan repeated as he walked behind Xiumin as the boy walked to the paper towels to dry his hands. "Okay, Luhan." He said finally. His face broke into a smile when he heard Luhan's overexcited (and unnecessary) cheer.

After all, one ice cream couldn't hurt.

~

Xiumin and Luhan had realized, after buying the ice cream, that they had no way of actually eating it with masks on their face. Their coffee had been drank discreetly, they had lifted their masks to just above their lips. However, ice cream was messier, more difficult. And so, they went back to the bathroom and went into a stall. It would be just too awkward if someone came in and saw them eating ice cream. It was hard to find space, but they eventually managed to fit together on the toilet seat. "This wasn't part of the plan." Luhan said, guilt in his voice. Xiumin gave him a smile. "It's alright. This is awesome." He reassured. Luhan glanced at him with disbelieving look on his face as he watched Xiumin eat his chocolate ice cream. "How is sitting on a toilet seat and eating ice cream awesome?" The boy asked bluntly.

"I have ice cream and you with me. What more could I want?" Xiumin retorted. Luhan let a small smile come to his face at those words. "Who's the cheesy one now?" Luhan asked. Xiumin kissed him in response. He tasted just like the strawberry ice cream he had been holding.

They arrived 2 minutes late to their meeting spot, but thankfully, it went unnoticed. They were both wearing masks but they had wide smiles on their faces and their hands were clasped tightly. Chen noticed and wiggled his eyebrows at them. The managers didn't notice their hands. "Okay. The cars have arrived. Should we go?" Chanwan asked, although it wasn't a question, not really.

Everyone nodded and agreed as they walked from the corner of the parking lot (where their meeting spot was) and went over to the two cars waiting for them near the entrance. "How was your date?" Kris asked casually as he walked next to them. Xiumin was a bit surprised at the boy's sudden question and didn't reply. Luhan wasn't though and proudly began to recall what they had done, exaggerating some bits. At the end of his retelling, Kris smirked. "So, basically, you guys shopped and drank coffee with masks on. After that, you ate ice cream in the toilet. Wow, that sounds romantic." Kris commented sarcastically. Luhan smacked Kris. "When you put it like that, it sounds stupid." Luhan said with a pout.

Kris and Xiumin laughed. "Do you know how much aegyo he's been doing today?" Xiumin asked rhetorically, turning to Kris. Kris raised an eyebrow and glanced at the pout on Luhan's face. "Yeah. I can imagine." He said, patting Xiumin's shoulder. "Good luck." He said, his voice serious as he gazed at Xiumin. Xiumin giggled. "I'm going to need it." He joked. Kris just nodded and waving his hand, walked ahead, putting his earphones in.

"You had fun right?" Luhan asked when they were back at the dorm. The boy sounded almost nervous, fidgeting with his hands slightly as he asked the question. Xiumin looked up from where he was sorting out the laundry. He smiled. "I had loads of fun. It was perfect." He emphasized, knowing why Luhan was asking and wanting to reassure the boy. Luhan grinned at that and walked over to him, leaning down to kiss him. "Good." The boy said and his voice was filled with relief. "I love you."

Xiumin smiled once again. "I love you too."

Chapter 80: I finally completed your story. (I wanted to finish it way much earlier... >_>) And I really have to say that your story was incredible. The whole story seemed so realistic and I really liked they way you took your time with establishing the relationship between Xiumin and Luhan. Also all the dialogues, movements or gestures from the characters seemed so real, I felt like actually beeing in EXO's dorm viewing a movie while standing on the set myself and seeing everything from such a closeness, because the way you wrote I could really imagine every scene so well and it was such a pleasure to read your story, because you used a wide range of vocabulary and used good terms.
Luhan was so sweet in this story, I am happy that you didn't make him the bad guy and Xiumin and him somehow managed to move on their own way. They deserved so much better.
Not only had Kris's leave a huge impact on the whole group (btw love it, that you showed every single member at that part.), but also Xiumin's sadness at the end, not beeing able to let out his emotions, not wanting to selfish rubs off on the reader as well.
I don't even know how to express all what I am feeling and how happy I am to have read this story. It was the fluffiest of fluff, as romatic as love poem and yet sad and realistic.
Just like the two of them I won't forget. I will come back and read your story again.
I cannot help but hope for them to find happiness.
