The Kims were never well to do. They were slightly below average but they were happy even though their parents abandoned them. At a very young age, Sunggyu had to stop playing with his friends and pick up odd jobs and part time jobs so that his siblings could still live a comfortable lifestyle. At a young age, he had to be the grown up to Myungsoo and Haeyi.

He was the decision maker of the family. He was both the father and the mother figure of the family. Myungsoo, only three years younger than him, wanted to lighten the burden his older brother was carrying but he refused.

"You are still in school. Education is very important, Myungsoo-ah."

At the age of 20, he was offered a job as a lab assistant in Seoul City Hospital, one of the leading research hospitals in South East Asia prior to the war. Only a high school graduate, he couldn't climb up the corporate ladder and he was stuck there with a measly amount that was barely enough. Sunggyu didn't want to be a failure to his younger siblings and worked extra hard.

And that was how he ended up bumping into someone only known as the 'Master' one fine day. The Master wanted information on the research team in Sunggyu's workplace but him being the loyal worker he was, he was hesistant at first. Then, when the talk about money came into the picture, Sunggyu's ears perked up. He knew that amount was enough for them to live comfortably for the whole year!

Determined, he found out information on the top secret information the research team was working on. It was not surprising that they were continuing the genome project that was earned a Nobel Prize. Unlike the genome project where scientist pin pointed and 'switch off' certain hereditary diseases or the recessive gene in the chromosome, they wanted to find out the gene that gives some humans powers.

And ultimately, they wanted to know whether they could make their own.

It may sound ridiculous back in the early 20th century but in the 25th, anything is possible.

Sunggyu would stay on overnight to make copies of their notes and diagrams on this experiment and sell them to the Master but the Master wanted more. He wanted the gene itself.

When Sunggyu failed to do so, the Master was furious and to teach him a lesson, he kidnapped Myungsoo and Haeyi.

When Haeyi died and Myungsoo injecting himself with his sister's power (trying to kill himself but failed), Sunggyu carried the greater guilt. He was suppose to protect them but instead, he was busy betraying the country. After his sister's funeral, he went back to that abandon warehouse to tell them it was over.

But, the Master told him that his sister c

Chapter 56: Omo....

I have so many thoughts I can hardly get my point across.

1. I'm glad there was a Hoya/Casey kiss but it obviously wasn't as amazing as my ShinJong kiss :P
2. When Hoya almost died, I was thinking how I would have preferred I it was Julia lol oh and why didn't he die (like the whole gene thing)
3. OH MY GOSHH THE ENDING WAS THE MOST EPIC AND HEART-WRENCHING THING. I generally consider her to be the main character and now she's gone and it's over and idk.. I feel empty 0.0
4. At the end, I thought Hoya was gonna put the shield around Julia and himself so that he could protect everyone and then the gene would explode, killing both of them.
5. KAY BUT NO I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FEEL
6. Hoya baby, you're not a murderer in my eyes, Kay?
7. This chapter was so amazing OTL I can't even
8. Aww... I'm gonna miss this story :'(
9. I just wanted to say what a great story this was. I like wedding jitters and it's sequel but this one has a special place in my heart. It was so epic o.O fluff stories aren't usually my favourite anyways.
10. that poster is SOOO nice, like whoa :)
