Chapter 8-Comfort
Rescue Me
Key wasn't entirely sure what stunned Amber. But when he turned around he saw it. He was certain.
That was it. It was Henry. He was with a woman, a clearly pregnant woman. Key was worried for Amber.
He immediately turned around and hugged the girl. He forcibly did that to cover Amber's eyes. Henry
was obviously happy. He was all smiles and laughing while walking hand in hand with the woman.
The woman was well off to her 5th or 6th month of pregnancy.
"Don't look. Don't even dare imagine and keep it running in your head. Amber, stop."
Amber didn't really respond. People were already looking at them. Key didn't really care.
"I'll take you home.. Tell me the way."
Amber didn't talk. She just seemed stunned. Tears weren't evident though sadness is clearly seen.
She told Key the way back to her condo. They arrived and Key accompanied Amber inside.
"I'll make you tea. Stay there."
Key brought with him the teabags they have at home. Apparently, his grandmother told him to do so
in case of an emergency. His grandmother's reminder was very appropriate at that moment.
"Here.."
Amber drank the tea but still no words came out of . Key tried to lighten up the situation by
asking various questions.
"You know this is the first time I entered a girl's place. It's really neat here. Do you want to eat?
I could cook for you."
Amber just shook her head.
"Omo. Two rooms? Oh yeah. By the way, where's your roommate?"
Again, no response.
They were like that for over an hour. It's already 9pm and Key was certain his grandmother is dead worried.
He used the phone and called his grandmother..
"Halmeoni."
"Kibum? Where in the world are you?"
"I'm fine halmeoni. Halmeoni, I think I wouldn't go home tonight." He whispered.
"Why?"
"Amber needs me."
Key's grandmother didn't really respond for quite some time. "Help her. Help her and reach for her."
He put the phone down and sat beside Amber.
"You could talk you know. I'll be listening.."
It took a good fifteen minutes for Amber to actually agree with the whole idea.
"Earlier.. It was the first time I saw him after we broke up. It seemed like forever. I thought I was fine.
I thought I can see him again without being affected. I thought I was getting better. But it seems like I'm
wrong.. It's as if I actually became worse. When I saw him right then and there, I just wanted to come at him
and.. And slap him in his goddamn face!"
Amber started crying.
"Is that the real reason he broke up with me? It's been only three months since we broke up but
it was pretty obvious that girl was on her 5th month! God. How did I not see this?"
She cried and cried.
Key patted the girl's back and told her, "Everything is going to be fine."
"Fine?! You think everything is going to be fine? How can it be fine? He was banging a girl
though we were still together?! What did I do to deserve this? He was all that I had and now here I am
destroyed all over again.. Why does my life have to be so miserable?"
She was obviously devastated with what she saw. She didn't expect to see Henry with a pregnant woman
out in the street like that.
Key then hugged Amber.
"Key, what did I do to deserve this? Am I not beautiful? Aren't I good enough?"
"Shhh.. Don't talk like that."
"But look at him, he got a girl pregnant without even thinking about me. Did you see his face?
Since we came to Korea together he didn't smile like that for me at all. Never. Where did I go wrong?"
Key then cupped Amber's face.
"You yourself said that he seemed happy. Then don't you deserve to be happy as well? Look at you.
A successful career woman; you have a stable income, you live in a great place and a lot of people care for you.
Luna cares for you, my grandma cares for you. I care for you. So shut up and get on with your life.
You don't need him to define who you are. You define yourself."
Amber closed her eyes. "If only it could be that easy.."
Tears kept falling. The memory of Henry breaking up with her flooded in.
Key then spoke.
"I couldn't force you to stop thinking about him. But please Amber, let me help you. Try to forget
what you saw today and just think of how much the people around you loves you.."
"I know Key. Ugh. Why am I such a crybaby.."
Key then wiped the tears off of Amber's face. She opened her eyes.
"This is the first I saw your face up close. You have really good skin."
Amber her hand all over Key's face.
"You have a very well defined nose. Your skin is very smooth."
"Well Ms. Amber, allow me to tell you that now I can officially say you are Chinese. The pigmentation
on your skin is really different from Korean girls. Your eyes are sharper and are very almond-like."
They then stared into each other eyes.
Key then kissed Amber's forehead, her eyes, cheeks, nose and finally he planted a kiss on Amber's lips.
He didn't know what got into him. He just had this urge to kiss the girl. Amber didn't really resist.
She kissed the boy back. She liked the warmth of Key's kiss. Key's lips then made its way to her neck.
She felt a shock running through her body. Key then carried her and brought Amber to her bed. They
kissed even more. It was a very passionate kiss. Amber didn't expect it at all. She always saw Key
as this timid, anti social guy she would love to help not like that. Not like the manly Key which was kissing her.
But as soon things started heating up, Key stopped.
"Why? Is something wrong?" Amber asked.
"No. No.. Nothing's wrong."
"Then why?"
"I don't want to take advantage of your emotional state right now. It's not right."
"I'm sorry.. I.."
Right before Amber could finish her sentence, Key stole another kiss.
"Look, I like you Amber. I really like you a lot. So don't think of this as a way to reject you or anything.
I care for you too much to do this to you when you're such in an emotional state. I want you to rest okay?
I already called my grandma.You go to sleep and I'll be at the sofa okay?"
Amber nodded in agreement. Key was about to walk out the door until,
"Wait! You could sleep here beside me if you want. I wouldn't mind.."
Key just smirked it off. "I'll be staying at the sofa. Good night Amber."
Amber smiled. "Good night Key oppa. Thank you.."
And so he closed the door.
