Chapter 92

False Awakening

The plane ride was tiresome and Taemin had trouble keeping his eyes open.

It felt like it was four in the morning a few hours ago but now time had left them behind, speeding ahead several hours without permission.

“Kitten, is everything okay?” His husband asked, massaging the blonde’s shoulder.

                “Yeah, I’m just tired.”

“Ruki should be here soon so you can try to catch some rest on the ride home, alright?”

                “Will do.”

It was so bright and his eyes suffered for it.

“How does it feel being home?”

                “It feels comforting.”

Kissing, they both smiled when a familiar car pulled up, waving a bringing their luggage over.

“It’s been forever!” A long haired, blonde screamed, running over to the boys and pulling them in for a tight hug. “Let’s get you two home! You must be so tired! Tell me about everything the first chance you get, okay?”

They both laughed, Minho doing most of the talking. “Well it was great. We did a lot of things.”

Too jet lagged and tired, Taemin used the ride to regain some power, giving in to his heavy eyelids.

Opening the door, the handsome, well dressed, and freshened up boy couldn’t stop himself from smiling. “Welcome home, Taemin…”

                “I’m home, Jongin.”

Lips stretching from ear to ear, the two stared into each other’s eyes seconds before jumping into a tight embrace.

“I missed you so much, Taemin! Even though we talked every single day, I missed you!”

                “I missed you too!”

“Here, I’ll get your luggage for you!”

“Thank you.” The blonde nodded, allowing his bags to be stolen straight from his hands. Taking the first, echoing steps into the entrance and hallway that were his own, he sighed. “I’m home!” He yelled into the room, voice bouncing between walls.

“You’re home.” Minho confirmed, kissing the back of the blonde’s neck.

“Honey, I don’t feel like unpacking… that’s so much work.”

“You can do it later. Maybe you can even do it tomorrow.”

Nodding, he stretched, eyes darting towards the kitchen’s direction. “I guess I’ll go make some dinner.”

“Then you know what? You go make us all some dinner, invite Ruki to stay, and while you’re cooking, I’ll unpack both of our suitcases. Does that sound fair?”

“That sounds more than fair. So much so that I feel bad taking you up on that offer.”

“Nonsense. Go on, I’ll be down in an hour.”

                “Okay, honey. Thank you.”

With a peck on the lips, they went to complete their tasks.

“Hey handsome.” Jongin smiled, tiptoeing into the kitchen to hug the chef.

“Your stomach will be happy to have fresh food, huh?” Taemin smiled, tossing the vegetables that took their time frying in the pan.

“As long as you make it, it’s delicious.”

“That’s reassuring.” The boy laughed. “So how have you been?”

                “Lonely.”

                “Lonely?”

“Lonely. This house is too big for one person. I’ve… wanted to touch you ever since you left.” He confessed, hands on the elder’s waist.

                “Jongin, don’t-”

“I missed you so much. It’s only been a week but it feels like it’s been years.”

“Hey, I’m glad you missed me, but I’m back now, so it’s fine.” He uncomfortably laughed, feeling the younger boy’s on his inner thighs.

                “I know, I know.”

The boy’s nose traced his neck, lips following the trail. They were so close. They were too close.

“Jongin, please stop.” He spun around, placing his palm on the younger boy’s chest and pushing him back a few inches.

                “Why? I missed you…”

“So we can hug, and talk, and go watch a movie, but… we can’t do… this.”

“What do you mean ‘this’? Can’t do what?”

Frustrated, Taemin grabbed Jongin’s wrist. “This.” He explained, planting the boy’s hand on his inner thigh. “This.” He stated, placing it on his crotch. “This.” He showed, running the fingers down his chest. “This.” He concluded, pressing Jongin’s fingertips to his lips. “Any of this. We can’t.”

Jongin’s expression changed to one resembling a toddler who wasn’t getting his way. “Why not?”

“What? ‘Why not’? Why not? Because that’s not what friends do!”

“We’re more than friends, Taemin. We kiss, and touch, and make lov-”

“No we don’t. Jongin, I love Minho more th- more than I’ve ever loved anyone. If you keep acting this way, and ‘this’ as in kissing me, touching me inappropriately, saying things that are out of place, then Minho will probably get fed up and leave me! He’ll leave me and I’ll hate myself so much for it but I’ll hate you too and then, you know what? Instead of running into your arms, I’m probably going to run away so far that you’ll never see me again!” Eyes wide, he caught his harsh tone, shaking his head. “S-sorry, I’m just trying to say that… the way you’re acting right now isn’t appropriate for the relationship we have, so… Jongin, I just came back from my honeymoon. I’d like it if we didn’t fight.”

“You’re really mean, hyung…” Jongin suddenly muttered.

“What do you mean I’m really mean?”

“You always pick Minho over me. You never consider my feelings.”

“I don’t pick him over you, he’s my husband! I love him!”

“I think it’s time you start making rational decisions.” He growled, grabbing both of Taemin’s wrists and pinning them to the cabinets above his head. Luckily for the blonde, he managed to jerk his wrists away before the grip got too strong, using his flat hand the deliver a firm smack on the younger boy’s cheek.

                “What’s wrong with you?!”

“I guess that I’m in love…” Jongin’s cracking voice said, the boy suddenly in tears.

Taemin was so conflicted. He hated Jongin for grabbing him and touching him like he owned him, but seeing him cry made Taemin want to hold him, and squeezing him, and tell him everything’s alright. Before he knew it, he was hugging the boy, giving apology after apology.

Minho walked by, catching a glimpse of the two and stopping in his tracks. He couldn’t help but to feel worried about the pained look on his husband’s face.

                “Hey, are you okay, Kitten?”

“Yeah.” Taemin answered in a cheery tone. He was hoping that shaking his head left and right as well as frowning would tell Minho otherwise.

“I’ll help you with dinner.” The elder said, walking in, giving Taemin a reason to let Jongin go.

“Jongin, go set the table, okay?” He smiled, patting the boy’s shoulder.

                “Okay…”

Once they were alone, Taemin fell against the elder, sighing.

“Is he causing you trouble again, Taemin?”

                “I don’t know… I just want to… Kiss me, okay?”

Nodding, Minho did, placing his lips against the boy’s softly.

“I’ll kick him out, Kitten. It hasn’t been the first day yet and he’s already like this.”

“No, he’s like this because it’s the first day… Look, about what you said on vacation… why don’t we talk to him sometime next week?”

                “Talk to him about what?”

“About whatever has to change for him not to be kicked out…”

Biting his lip, Minho stared at the ground, contemplating it. “Alright. I want to talk to you about it beforehand. Alone. I want to make sure we’re on the same page.”

“Yeah, okay.” Taemin nodded, leaning up against the elder’s chest.

                “Kitten?”

                “Yes?”

“I’m happy we’re doing this. I know that I’d be devastated if I was in Jongin’s position, but I’m not and you’re mine so I’m happy.” Minho confessed, holding Taemin close.

“I love you- oh! Here, try this. Tell me if it tastes good!” The blonde smiled, turning around and stabbing a nearby fork into some fried mushrooms. Blowing on the steaming vegetable, a smile on his face, he caressed the elder’s cheek with his free hand. “Say ‘ah’, darling. The plane is landing at the airport!”

Snorting, Minho shook his head. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Do you want to eat dinner?”

“Yes, Kitten.” He laughed, parting his lips to accept the food. He couldn’t keep a straight face when his husband began making plane noises. “Oh my god-”

“Ah, ah, ah! Don’t say a word! The plane will crash!”

Smirking, he shook his head, leaning forward to steal the mushrooms so that he wouldn’t die of embarrassment.

Taemin pouted, crossing his arms. “Airports don’t abduct planes midflight.”

“Mm, but husbands abduct kisses from their little kittens.” He smiled, lifting the boy by his thighs and twirling him around.

“Apparently they steal a lot more too…” Taemin laughed.

                “Like what, baby?”

“Like balance and the ability to stand.”

                “I think you’re adorable.”

“I think I’m pretty darn cute too.”

Biting onto some of Taemin’s hair, he growled and the two laughed until the blonde decided Minho had to stop eating his golden locks and switch in a proper dinner.

“Put me down and go to the dining room, okay? Dinner will be ready soon.”

                “Okay, kitten. I love you.”

                “I love you too.”

The table seated four, a couple across from a quiet boy and one who wouldn’t stop asking every detail about their honeymoon.

“So what do you think was the most memorable part of your vacation?” He asked, looking in Minho’s direction.

“Um… probably the skydiving. I was terrified until I saw Taemin going through it without a fear in the world… yeah, I think that was it.”

“What about you, Tae-chan?” Ruki asked.

At first, the boy looked lost in thoughts, but suddenly, his face lit up with excitement.

“I know! Can I show them, Minho?”

                “Show them what?” He asked.

“The thing we got done… you know, the day before we left, the ‘spur of the moment’-”

“Oh! Well, they’d find out sooner than later, right?”

“Right. Okay.” He smiled, face so bright it overpowered everything else.

“I’m really excited now!” Ruki whined, “Hurry up!”

                Jongin also seemed intrigued.

Blushing, he rolled up his sleeve. That’s when the boy’s gasped. Ruki’s hand went as far as rubbing the skin. “Is that a tattoo?!”

“Why did you get a tattoo, hyung?!”

“Oh my god… Taemin… wait, Minho, do you have one too?!”

Nodding, Minho tugged his sleeve up, revealing a matching tattoo.

“That is… so cute, you guys! Whose decision was this?”

“Mine.” Taemin admitted. “It was a matter of seconds, really… I just… I thought, ‘it’s my honeymoon, I should get a little crazy!’ You know? And luckily, I have an equally insane husband who likes to make me happy. Anyways, we went into this shop, talked to a really nice girl, and now I have this on my arm.”

“That’s a huge commitment to make in a couple of seconds… wow. They’re really cute though. I guess you can’t break up now because your whole bodies will be reminders to your new lovers of how much more you loved each other than you ever will them.”

“Good thing we’ll never break up.” Taemin smiled.

“I’m so jealous of you two.” Ruki pouted. “How do two people so meant for each other like you two meet?”

“Through a car accident.” The blonde snorted. “Hey, I’ll go get some dessert for you guys. Give me a few minutes.” Giving Minho a kiss on the cheek, rolling his sleeve down before walking out into the kitchen.

When he was gone, Minho noticed Jongin’s glare. “What’s wrong, Jongin?” He asked. Of course it came out genuine, but he was sickly amused.

“I think it’s stupid that you guys got a tattoo with your names in it. I thought that being older, you would have explained the long term consequences to Taemin. When you two break up, it’s going to cost him a lot of time, money, and pain to get it removed or cover it up.”

                “What do you mean ‘when’?”

“When he realizes you’re not enough to make him happy.”

“Jongin, I had a great vacation with my husband and it’s a little annoying that I’ve only been back in Korea a few hours and you’re already getting on my nerves.”

“Guys, can you not argue?” Ruki pleaded, feeling more than awkward.

“No, Ruki! I’m totally right! Taemin made a huge mistake and it’s all because Minho wouldn’t do his proper job as a human being! Now Taemin is going to have his name on his body forever and knowing him, he’ll regret it in a week or two!”

“Jongin, you’re the only one getting mad.” Minho pointed out, angering him even more.

                “You know what Minho?”

                “What?”

“You better hope that you’re lucky enough that there won’t be a single moment where I’m alone with Taemin for more than ten minutes.”

“Jongin don’t-” Ruki began, cut off by Jongin’s original target.

“What are you hinting at, Jongin?”

                “Take it as you will.”

“No, I’m not going to take it as I will! Listen up, don’t think you can put threats like that on the table! He’s not yours and he’s not even on your side, so back up and stay in your place!”

“Is… everything okay?” Taemin asked, silently slipping into the room.

“Y-yeah… everything’s fine!” Ruki attempted numbing the stiff atmosphere. “Wh-what’s for dessert?”

“Ice cream.” The boy smiled, carrying over a tray with four pastel bowls.

“Thank you, sweetheart.” Minho smiled, trying to calm himself down. “You’ve been treating me so well lately.”

“Of course I have. You’re my husband after all.”

“Then can your lucky husband get even luckier tonight?” He smirked, intending to annoy Jongin as much as Jongin annoys him. God. Were they children? He felt like he was back in kindergarten, fighting over a red crayon with some other snot covered toddler. But this wasn’t just a red crayon, this was the only red crayon, this was Taemin. Not only that, Taemin was his only. No one else was allowed to use him because he didn’t want to be used by anyone else. Falling into darker and deeper thoughts, happy at the fact that Jongin was going to get a talking to by the both of them later that week, he was only pulled out when the most perfect voice to ever speak spoke.

“Darling, you’re making a scary face… are you sure everything is fine?” Taemin asked. Noting everyone else’s expressions, he was less and less sure with every passing second. “Hey, did something happen while I stepped out?”

“Minho, did you finish unpacking?” Ruki suddenly asked.

“No… There are probably a dozen or so shirts and pants left.”

“Then I’ll help Tae-chan finish up. Don’t kill each other while we’re gone.” He jokingly laughed, snatching Taemin up. The two knew it wasn’t necessarily impossible if they were left unsupervised. Confused, the blondes soon found themselves upstairs in Taemin’s bedroom, sitting on the bed with a suitcase between them.

“Ruki, what happened? I know something did, so don’t lie to me.”

Pulling his lips back, he wondered if he should, folding a shirt.

                “Ruki, please…”

Unable to reject to adorable younger boy, he sighed. “What do you think? They’re fighting over you.”

                “What? Why…”

“Why? Because they’re both in love with you. I’m sorry Tae-chan, I know this may not be as easy as you want, but you really have to… Well I would say choose between them, but you already have. You have to turn Jongin away properly-”

“I’ve tried, Ruki! I really have! I’ve said everything and I just don’t know what to do anymore! He’s my best friend though, so I can’t just tell him to get out of my life! In fact, I don’t want that!” Groaning and rolling his eyes, he collapsed against the elder’s chest, hugging him tightly. “This is so annoying!”

Pouting, Ruki held him closer. “Hey, don’t make me fall in love with you too. It’ll be even more troublesome when there are three people fighting over yours.”

“Don’t joke like that, Ruki… I know you wouldn’t do that. You care about me, right?”

“I care about you Tae-chan, but you know, it’s very easy to love you. You’re just… you make it easy to love you romantically… I liked you for a little bit, remember? Back when I liked Minho too… it’s just… something about you. I understand where you’re coming from, but I also understand where Minho and Jongin are coming from, you know? Anyways, let’s not waste time, if we’re up here to fold then we should probably fold. The faster we’re done, the faster we can go back downstairs and make sure those two aren’t clawing at each other’s necks, right?”

“Right.” Taemin giggled. Pulling away from the hug, he grabbed a pair of pants, folding it into a neat square and placing it in Minho’s drawer. His phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket, captivating the entirety of his attention. Checking it, the screen alerted him of a text messaged. Pressing onto the notification, he read a few sentences from someone he had completely forgot about.

‘Hello, Taemin! Do you still remember me? I hope so! Just in case, it’s me, Kevin Woo from the supermarket. We met before you left for your honeymoon. The group of photography student! You’re back today, right? I hope I’m not bothering you! I’m sure you’re very busy! I just wanted to know if we’d be able to get you to come into our class. I could put you into contact with my professor, in fact, I’d have to! Haha! Anyways, tell me when you’d be available and feel free in taking your time to reply. I hope you’re healthy and safe! Talk to you later, Kevin.’

Connecting name to face, Taemin nodded along as if the words were being spoken to him directly. He’d reply later. Turning around to Ruki who seemed completely uninterested in anything that didn’t involve folding clothing, he got the boy’s attention.

                “Ruki?”

                “Yes, Tae-chan?”

                “Guess what.”

                “What?”

“I might be doing a bit more with this modelling thing. I don’t know for sure though.”

“Oh really?” The elder smiled, “That’s great! I’m sure Minho will be happy! Jongin too! Let’s go tell them as soon as we’re done, okay?”

                Taemin nodded, “Ok.”

Chapter 108: Dude, why am I just reading this now?! I... It feels weird that this is the end. It was so lovely and woah I can't believe how much you put into this story. Even though I wasn't here from the very start, I still feel how big a deal this is. I'll miss it too. I can imagine how different things will be now that you're finished and won't have the same routine, but don't feel sad. I think relief is a better option lol now you have this work to look back on while writing new things ^^ congratulations on seeing this through and being so consistent bc wow man, that was quite a schedule. I hope you'll continue to contribute more stories to the fandom (particularly 2min) haha good luck :) <3
