Chapter 80

False Awakening

“I’m really excited.” Taemin repeated for the hundredth time that day.

“You’re also really cute in your Santa hat and Santa briefs, Kitten.” Minho smiled. “Hey, you’ve been cleaning the house all day. Let’s go cuddle a bit.”

“I can’t stop working! Christmas is tomorrow! We can’t have a dirty house!”

“But we’re not even having the party at our house! Who cares if it’s dirty?”

                “Well- You just- I- I do…”

“Look, let’s just cuddle a bit.” Minho attempted to convince his younger fiancé, dragging him out of kitchen and into the living room.

Pouting, Taemin clung onto him, being dropped onto the recliner. Minho reached over and pressed the button that caused the chair to recline, laying the blonde down beneath him.

“I want to decorate a gingerbread house with you and Jongin.” The younger boy pitched, completely uninterested in the rubbing and groping the elder was trying to offer.

“We can make a gingerbread house under the sheets…” Minho whined.

“What does that even mean? I think you’re running out of pickup lines. Hey, I’m meeting up with a friend today and we’re going to do some last minute shopping, so I need to get ready.”

“No.” The elder decided, dropping his complete weight onto his fiancé, trapping him.

“What do I need to do for you to move?”

                “Hmm… take off your clothes?”

“Fine.” Taemin agreed for the sake of getting things done. Of course the request didn’t only require for him to take his clothes off, but kiss, grab, grind, and anything else Minho felt like doing.

With the elder’s hands on his thighs, Taemin kissed him intimately, letting their tongues tangle for just as long as he need to in order for Minho to be swept up by the mood. When he felt his fiancé reaching for his briefs, ready to pull them off, Taemin broke off the kiss. “I want to straddle you, Honey… Let me be on top…”

Unable to turn him away under any state of mind, Minho agreed, shifting them around so that Taemin sat on his lap. The moment the blonde got the upper hand however, he jump off and jogged out of grabbing distance.

“We can continue this later! I got to go get ready now!”

“That’s not fair! Hey, get back here!”

Taemin knew it wasn’t fair, but sometimes his lover was too loving and although Taemin loved being suffocated with hugs and kisses, he really had plans he wanted to attend to.

The mall was packed with last minute shoppers. Taemin held Jiyong’s hand, trying not to get lost among the hordes of people rushing to get whatever they may have missed in the previous month.

“Thanks for coming with me.” The blonde said, wishing there was room for him to take off his coat and hat. If he even tried carrying them though, they’d get lost instantly.

“No problem. You said it came in the wrong size?”

Pouting, Taemin rested his head against the elder’s arm. “Yeah. I ordered a small, and two larges but they sent me two smalls and a large instead. I really, really, really hope they have one left in large.”

“We’ll see. Here, walk in front of me so you don’t get trampled on. I can speak up for myself but you can’t.”

Keeping each other close, they headed to the store that was just as overflowing as any other.

“They were on a rack here when I first saw them but that was last week…” The blonde said, pointing to the rack nearest to the left wall.

“Well, hey, why don’t we just ask?”

“But the staff are probably busy…”

“They’re being paid to help you. Excuse me!” Jiyong called, waving over a clearly occupied employee. He pulled the wrongly shipped sweater out of the bag and waved it in front of her. “Do you have any of these left? I ordered a large but got a small.”

“Um…” She stuttered, looking around, “If we still have some, they’ll be in the back!” With that, she ran off.

“They’re so useless…” The elder grumbled. “Let’s go look around.”

They searched each rack several times, thoroughly looking over each piece of clothing. At first, Taemin tried staying enthusiastic, but after twenty minutes and nothing resembling the sweater he wanted, he started giving up.

Jiyong’s chin rested on his head as he looked through the rack for what might be a miracle, and as if Santa heard what he wanted, he found three of the sweaters, two mediums and a large.

“Hyung, look!” He cheered, claiming the sweater for himself. Turning around with such a huge smile, Jiyong couldn’t help but to mess up the boy’s hair.

                “Good job, Santa.”

“I’m so relieved…” Taemin sighed, hugging the elder. “I really thought they wouldn’t have on more and that my whole ‘matching sweaters for the family’ thing wouldn’t work out…”

                “It’s on clearance too, congrats.”

“Hey Jiyong, what are you doing for Christmas?”

                “Nothing, like usual.”

“What?!” Taemin exclaimed, hand cupping his mouth. “What about your friends or family?”

“None of them celebrate it.” He explained, walking over to the giant lineup with the blonde.

“Then come with us! We’re going to a party! Minho and Jongin are coming so you’ll know them and me.”

                “I don’t think I’d fit in with your crowd…”

“Don’t make excuses. If you don’t want to just say so.”

“N-no, I’m serious, you guys are cool and all, but you know, I just think that I’ll be pretty out of place.”

He watched as Taemin pinched his index finger, lifting it before slipping his own ten digits between the elder’s. “You fit in with me, don’t you?”

                “Stop being cute.”

“Ah, but I can’t. I have to have some way of keep my fiancé.”

                “Hm, what about ?”

The blonde smiled as he walked up to the counter, placing the sweater while grabbing his receipt. “I didn’t say being cute was my only way.”

“How scandalous.” Jiyong chuckled, tossing his arm around Taemin’s shoulders. They rushed to explain how they got the wrong size and instead of questioning them, the man quickly helped, getting Taemin a new receipt before exchanging the sweater so that he could continue with the never ending line.

“Jiyong!” Taemin began, swinging the elder’s arm back and forth. “Would you like to come over for dinner?”

                “Dinner? Tonight?”

                “Yeah.”

“Aren’t you busy preparing for the holidays?”

“I could spare a few hours.”

                “Alright, then I’ll intrude.”

They got home later than expected, traffic both on the streets and in the subway interrupting them. Before Taemin could even knock, the door swung open, a pouting Minho on the other side.

“Kitten, why did it take you so long- oh, hi.”

Smiling at the change of expression, Taemin placed his hand on the elder’s shoulder, using it as leverage for the kiss the planted on Minho’s cheek. “I brought Jiyong over for dinner. Did you make anything?”

                “N-no, sorry.”

                “It’s okay, I’ll make something.”

They both walked in and Jiyong couldn’t help but notice the obvious way Minho looked the blonde up and down, over his lips. Taemin wasn’t joking when he said he had ways of keeping Minho in.

“Hey, what did you get?” His fiancé asked, hunting him down with his eyes now piercing the bag.

                “Don’t worry about it.”

“I’m worrying about it.” He continued to poke, pulling Taemin by the back of his shirt.

“I’m not going to tell you until tomorrow!” Taemin teased. However, he got the opposite reaction, feeling himself lifted and chucked over Minho’s shoulder. Laughing he tried escaping, finding himself in a kiss as they rounded the corner.

Taking his shoes off, Jiyong couldn’t help but to feel awkward. Not because he was single, not because he saw them kiss, and not because he was suddenly alone in a house that wasn’t his, but because Taemin seemed to be so much more comfortable in his skin now.

Seeing him at home made Jiyong feel like he never really knew Taemin, because when has the boy ever been this confident after entering the room? He seemed a lot more happy and confident than ever before.

“Hey.” He heard from somewhere nearby, turning to find the source of the voice.

                “Oh, hi Jongin.”

                “What are you doing here?”

“Taemin invited me over for dinner.”

“Do you want to play videogames?”

                “Um, sure.”

Walking through the house, they finally made their way to the living room where a huge television stood parallel to a long, comfortable looking couch.

                “Do you guys all work?”

                “No. Why?”

“This place has got to cost a fortune!”

“Actually, my parents pitch in and so do Taemin’s and Minho works, so it’s not too bad. Before this, I was living with my parents and Taemin and Minho lived alone so their parents both had to pay full rent on two homes whereas now mine and Taemin’s only pay a third of the rent each while Minho pays for his third.”

Jiyong was astonished as he dropped down onto the soft cushions, getting comfortable while a remote was handed to him. “That’s completely crazy. I would never be able to live in a place like this.”

It didn't take much longer for a game to be on the screen and for his competitiveness to reach it's peak. However, as much as he liked dominating in a shorter, he couldn't help but to have his attention divided between the score and the blonde who was visible in the kitchen, Minho at his side.

He didn't go to school with Minho so he didn't know much about him if anything, besides the fact that he can get so to the point where he'll skip lunch to come to Taemin's school and make the boy leave class so that they can fool around in the changing rooms.

Still, whenever the two were together, they seemed lost in each other's eyes, only focusing on the other room even when they were in a room of people.

"Hey," Jiyong asked, "Is Taemin always like this at home? He's so different from when he's at school..."

"Yeah, he's really mature. At school, I still feel like his best friend, but at home I feel like his son." The younger boy sighed, rubbing his forehead, "These are the problems with falling for an older man." He proclaimed, imitating a damsel in distress.

"I don't know if I'd call Taemin an older man."

"Still, he's basically been a husband since he's been seventeen. Not many people can say that about themselves. I mean, even if I somehow ended up dating Taemin when I first came to live here or when I first confessed to him a couple of years ago, we'd probably date until we're in our mid-twenties. I think it's just because Minho's older and Taemin follows his every word and that combined with them being basically obsessed with each other leads to a seventeen year old and a nineteen year old being engaged.”

“Do you think they’ll last? As I couple, I mean. Not that I’m hoping they break up or anything…”

“Unfortunately, yeah. Well, I don’t know, I mean, I’ve known Taemin since we were really, really young and he’s the type that completely devotes himself to a single person. He can do that easily. That’s what he did when we were little, but, um, I don’t know about Minho. I haven’t known him very long and although we live together, we’re not very close.”

                “Oh.”

Taemin held a spoon between his fingers, feeding whatever was on it to Minho, receiving a thumbs up in return.

“Minho seems like the kind of guy who would want a wife and kids by the time he’s thirty though, don’t you think?”

“Yeah. I don’t know, the way I see it is that if they’re together, I’m happy that’ Taemin’s happy, if they break up, I’m happy that Taemin will end up dating me.”

“You sure about that?” Jiyong asked, surprised with the mindset.

                “Yeah.”

“What if I steal him away first?” He teased, smirking with an eyebrow raised.

Jongin seemed to take the threat a lot more seriously than it was intended, looking the elder up and down with a judging gaze. “You’re not good enough for him.”

The older boy choked on his own breath, jaw dropping as he wondered if he heard what he heard correctly. “Excuse me? I’m not good enough for him? I’ll have you know he held my hand today at the mall!”

“He holds everyone’s hand. It’s no accomplishment.”

“He invited me to the Christmas party tomorrow.”

At first, Jongin stayed quiet, wondering if there was any comeback he could say to that. “Well, yeah, okay, but he didn’t collaborate and outfit with you, did he?”

                “Okay, okay, you win.”

Ending their war over friendship, they continued the virtual one, going back to paying to their game.

Within half an hour, they were torn from their competitiveness by a blonde who happily entered the room, apron and all.

“Guys, would you like soup or salad?”

“I’ll eat anything made by you.” Jongin slyly replied, kissing the side of Taemin’s head as he walked by and headed for the dining room, joining Minho.

“Stop, it Jongin!” Taemin laughed, managing to pinch the younger boy before he was out of reach. “Jiyong, soup or salad?”

“Um… I guess I’ll take salad. If I get food poisoning, I’ll be the most annoyed person in the world though.”

“Alright, alright. Come on then, I’ll grab you some poisoned salad.”

Jiyong couldn’t deny that the food was good. Taemin really was a trophy wife.

“Honey, you have some dressing on your lips.” He watched Taemin say before using a napkin to wipe said dressing off of Minho’s lips.

He looked towards Jongin, catching the boy’s gaze before nodding. “You’re right,” He admitted quietly enough for the couple not to hear, “I do feel like I’m have dinner with my parent’s, and he’s even younger than me, so that says a lot.”

The youngest boy nodded. “Hey, Taemin,” He suddenly began, garnering everyone’s attention, “If you invited Jiyong to the party, then what’s he going to be?”

“What do you mean what am I going to be? I’m going to be me.”

“No, but it’s a themed party.” Jongin went on to explain, “Everyone there is coming in costume. Taemin is going to be Santa, Minho is going be Rudolph, and I’m going to be an elf. One of our friends is going to be Mrs. Claus and I know of a couple of people who are going to be some of the other reindeer. If you’re coming, then you’re basically obligated to dress up too, you know.”

“I have to dress up? And how’d you get to be Santa? You don’t look anything like a fat white man with a beard.”

Taemin shrugged. “We actually drew names from a hat and I got Santa.”

“He’s going to be the cutest Santa ever.” Minho commented, Jongin agreeing.

“Hey Jiyong, you could be an angel! You know, since Christmas is a religious holiday.” Taemin chirped, clapping his hands at his own idea.

                “Me? An angel?” He snorted.

                “Yeah!”

“You have to be kidding me. I’m more like the devil.”

“Well, okay, but this is Christmas, not Halloween.”

                “Well I’ll think about coming.”

“If you want to, we could drive you there.” Minho offered.

                “You drive?”

Placing his hand over Minho’s as if to steal his attention, Taemin nodded, smiling from ear to ear as he took it upon himself to explain something that was nowhere near directed at him. “He bought us the car as a present for my birthday! Isn’t Minho the best? He’s just so… ah, I can’t wait to marry him!”

“I can’t wait to marry you either, Kitten!” Minho cooed, kissing the younger boy on the lips.

“You know, I’ve never wanted to be in a relationship until now.” Jiyong admitted, chuckling to himself. “Actually, I don’t know if I should envy you or be annoyed by you. Either way, I decided I’ll come to the party, so be grateful.”

                “Thank you, hyung!”

Don’t thank me, Jiyong thought to himself, I’m really not the one doing you a favour. You’re the reason I have something to do this Christmas.

They finished up in the evening, talking over ever subject that crossed their minds. Of course it started at the dinner table, but it carried out into the living room, onto the balcony, back into the dining room for a midnight snack, and finished up near the door.

“Well thanks for having me.” Jiyong said, grabbing his shoes and coat which carefully rested on their designated racks. Another thing he noted today was that Taemin was a lot neater than he seemed like he would be.

“I’ll walk you out, okay?” Taemin offered, having an oversized, baggy sweater draped over him by his lover.

“Hey, don’t go out, okay Kitten? It’s snowing and cold and I don’t want you getting sick for the holiday.”

“Okay. I’ll be right back, so wait up, okay? Maybe we can still watch a movie before we go to bed?”

                “Yeah, of course.”

“Alright, then you and Jongin pick out a movie, I’ll be right back.”

The two boy’s nodded and headed off to the television where they searched for a movie. Meanwhile, Taemin took Jiyong’s hand, leading him to the elevator.

“Where am I supposed to get an angel costume?” The elder asked him.

“I don’t know. Just wear all white? Oh, I could cut our some wings for you from… I don’t know, cardboard? Anyways, we could paint them white and that would be enough really.”

                “Alright.”

“Thanks for coming with me today.” Taemin suddenly said, interrupted by a yawn.

“Thanks for inviting me over for dinner and thanks for inviting me to tomorrow’s party.”

“No problem. I mean, you have to celebrate while you can, right?”

“Right. When should I come by tomorrow then?” He asked, now already moments from leaving the building.

“What about five? Can I see you then?”

                “You’ll see me then.”

Before leaving though, Jiyong looked the blonde over, nodding to himself. Ruffling the boy’s hair he leaned in, biting his shoulder.

                “Ouch! What are you doing?”

“You know, you’re really cute and your body is amazing, but I don’t think that’s anywhere near the only thing keeping Minho with you. You’re really the ideal wife.”

Taemin blushed but he couldn’t hold back a smile.

“Thank you… I try really hard.”

“Well you do a good night. Anyways, see you.”

                “Bye, see you tomorrow.”

With that compliment implanted into his mind, Taemin giggled to himself, making his way back home.

Chapter 108: Dude, why am I just reading this now?! I... It feels weird that this is the end. It was so lovely and woah I can't believe how much you put into this story. Even though I wasn't here from the very start, I still feel how big a deal this is. I'll miss it too. I can imagine how different things will be now that you're finished and won't have the same routine, but don't feel sad. I think relief is a better option lol now you have this work to look back on while writing new things ^^ congratulations on seeing this through and being so consistent bc wow man, that was quite a schedule. I hope you'll continue to contribute more stories to the fandom (particularly 2min) haha good luck :) <3
