False Awakening

Ojisan - Grandpa

“Tae-chan!~ Pay attention to me!” Ruki draped his arms over Taemin’s shoulders as he nuzzled the back of his neck with his nose. “You’re the one that just decided to come over without telling me!” Ruki climbed over the back of the couch, placing one leg on both sides of Taemin’s sitting body, sliding down and spooning him. He laced his arms around Taemin’s waist before propping his chin up on the younger boy’s shoulder. “I came so you could play with me, but all you’re doing is solving weird math stuff.”  Ruki pouted, tugging on the bottom on Taemin’s shirt. “Ruki, I have school. I have to do my homework.” He shimmied his shoulders, causing Taemin’s body to mimic the action. He placed his hands flat on both sides of the textbook, covering a majority of the words until Taemin finally gave up. He leaned his head back on the elder’s shoulder, tilting his head slightly in order to look at him. “Geez, you’re like the puppy I never wanted. What? Do I need to take you on a walk?” Ruki’s hands slid to Taemin’s hips, wiggling them against him. “Well, since you offered~” He nibbled on Taemin’s ear, causing the boy to flinch and laugh. “I didn’t offer anything! You’re so weird!” Ruki kissed the base of Taemin’s neck, up to his jawline. “Woof~” Taemin closed his book and swung his arm up, hitting Ruki on the top of the head with the 600 pages, causing the boy to reach for it. “You like kissing boys?” Taemin spoke, an eyebrow raised as he turned around to face the elder. “I like kissing you.” Ruki mused. Taemin’s smart remark got stuck in his throat as his jaw just hung open, the corners curling into the smile, pulling the rest of his lips in place. “You’re horrible.” Taemin shook his head, looking down as a blush went over his face, his smile plastered onto his face. “Well, I guess there’s no way I’m going to be able to study with you here, so we might as well go out. But only for a little, okay?” Ruki balled his hand up into a fist and cheered, glad with his victory. A quiet ‘yes’ escaped his mouth. “But,” Taemin continued, “I have to have fun too, yeah?” He crossed his arms. “Wh-what do you want to do?” Ruki asked. “How about you take me on a ride on your motorcycle? I mean, I’m going to assume that the bike you parked outside of my house is yours and that you didn’t steal it.” Ruki shook his head slightly from side to side as he laughed. “No, no, no, I didn’t.” Taemin hopped off of him as he began walking towards the door, turning around. Ruki’s eyes followed him. “Are you coming?” Ruki nodded, getting up himself and going over for his coat. “Can we call this a date?” Ruki teased. “Don’t push it.” Taemin smiled as he reached for the door knob. “I’m going to call it a date.” Ruki said with a wink as he skipped ahead and grabbed Taemin’s hand, holding the door for him and walking him to the bike.

“See, although I’m super cute and adorable, I’m actually quite a daredevil.” Ruki explained. “Unfortunately, since its winter, we need to stick on the major roads and highways because there’s salt on them. If it were me by myself though, I would really, really, go on all of the dangerous trails.” Taemin laughed as Ruki secured the helmet onto his head, clipping it under his chin. “Alright Ruki.” Taemin lifted his legs, shifting it over the bike before Ruki did the same. “Hold on tight? Okay?” Before Taemin could even nod, the bike sped off. Taemin’s nails dug into Ruki’s chest as an unexpected rush of air hit his face. They zoomed down the streets, snow hitting the plastic shields in front of their eyes, leaving them immune to Mother Nature’s chill. Ruki smiled as the adrenaline flooded his brain, taking him twenty minutes to realise Taemin hadn’t spoken a word. “Tae-chan, are you alright?” He shouted over the whistles of the winds. “Ruki…” Taemin’s voice faded into the background noise. “Yes Taemin?” Ruki attempted to catch the sentence for the second time. “This is my first time on a bike. I’m… I’m kind of scared.” It took Ruki a few minutes to process all the noises coming at him at once to pick out Taemin’s quiet voice. “Baka… Baka, baka, baka, baka! Why didn’t you tell me?! I wouldn’t have this fast! Give me a second, I promise; I’ll get off the highway on the next ramp!” He felt the grip around his jacket tighten. “No. Don’t. Just talk to me, okay?” Ruki swallowed, exhaling loudly. His hand temporarily, left one of the handlebars, seeking out Taemin’s hand and giving it a comforting pat, holding it before returning back to its previous position. He cleared his throat. “So Taemin, what did you have for breakfast?” Taemin replied quietly. “Cereal.” Well that went well. “Was it good? I had steamed rice, Miso soup, and tamagoyaki. Do you always have cereal?” Ruki caught Taemin’s eyes peeking out from over his shoulder now. “It was alright. I have it every day. It just seems like the easiest thing to make.” Ruki chuckled at Taemin’s laziness. “It might be the easiest, but then it won’t be the most fulfilling. Hey Taemin, you know, you can try to get more comfortable by leaning back a little, relaxing, and maybe, just maybe, smiling a little? You know, never show weakness in the face of danger and all?” He heard Taemin take a shaky breath as the hold on him slowly loosened. He watched in the mirror as Taemin slowly inched away from him, his face contorting into something Ruki could only assume was the smile he spoke of. Ruki's cheeks filled with his breath as he snorted, trying not to laugh. Taemin blushed as he heard the noise, clinging once more and hiding his face. "I-I'm sorry Tae-chan! You're doing really well!" Ruki tried to apologize through stifled laughter. "You're so mean Ruki!" Ruki wiped his teary eyes as he tried to reason with the younger boy "Tae-chan, if you saw your face, you would've laughed too!" Taemin finally chuckled as he imagined his cheeks and lips in the most awkward of positions. "I guess you're right." Taemin's thin fingers gently curved around Ruki's jacket. He shifted and got comfortable against Ruki's back, watching as they raced past cars and buses. "I feel like such a rebel." Taemin joked, feeling Ruki's back shake against his chest. "Next thing I know, you'll be wearing tight jeans and leather jackets." Ruki smiled at the thought. "Who knows, maybe I already do." The mood suddenly lightened as their eyes met through one of the mirrors. Ruki was the first to turn away, keeping his eyes on the road, but Taemin kept staring at the face revealed by the fast wind. The eyes that were usually hidden by the light coloured hair took their place naturally on the elders face. "Do you ever consider pinning your hair up and out of your face?" He watched the elder’s eyes quickly flick up to some strands of hair riding the wind. “No. I don’t think I’d look kawaii. You could pull it off, but I probably couldn’t. Tae-chan, you’re so cute that you could pull anything off. I’m so jealous~” Ruki pouted. “Mm… nope. Not motorcycles. I would look weird on a motorcycle by myself. You look awesome. It’s almost as if the motorcycle was made for you.” Taemin noticed the excitement on Ruki’s face as he received the compliment, his smile growing. “Tae-chan~ you’re too cute! Stop it! I’ll end up fainting and we’ll both get hurt, yeaaah?~” Taemin nodded, looking behind them and quickly regretting it as a falling sensation took over him. “Although I’m still really scared, I’m really excited while doing this!” He yelled over the hum of the speeding cars. “I’m glad.” Ruki replied, “I promise to treat you well.” Taemin subconsciously slid his hand through the ped opening in Ruki’s jacket, his hands searching for warmth. “T-Tae-chan… What are you doing?” Taemin cocked his head curiously. “What do you mean?” The taller boy flinched as Taemin kept groping around the fabrics. “You’re touching me strangely! It’s embarrassing in public, Darling!” Ruki scolded as his peachy cheeks darkened. “Oh shush. You’re going to keep me warm weather you like it or not.” Ruki giggled as he took the turn off the highway, beginning to loop around. The ride back was filled with laughter at lame jokes and backs brushing chests, their hair tangled by the wind.

“That was so much fun!” Taemin cheered as he hopped off the bike. His laughter was growing on itself as he tumbled towards Ruki, arms tossed around him. “Thanks!” Ruki nodded, kissing his forehead, holding his hand as he began walking him to the door. They fled from the frost and chills, throwing their outerwear to the floor. They jumped back on the couch, Ruki landing on Taemin as they twirled blankets around their selves. Taemin sat with his legs crossed, reaching over for his previously discarded text books as Ruki took the liberty of situating his head on the younger’s lap. Ruki began to slowly doze off into the other as Taemin’s eyes devoured the words written on each page. It didn’t take long before the silence was broken and Taemin grunted, one huff after another. “Ruki…” The tanned boy slowly peeked through his eyelids, seeing the disgruntled face Taemin was producing. “Ruki, I don’t get this at all… Can you help me?” Ruki whined as he slowly wiggled his way into a sitting position, leaning on Taemin’s shoulder with his arms wrapped around the boy’s waist. “What’s the question?” Taemin’s finger traveled across the page to a line somewhere in the middle. “Prove the quadratic formula ax^2+bx+c.” Ruki stared at it for a bit before beginning to explain. “Well, you just have to subtract and divide.” Taemin looked like a lost child in New York at night. “What?” Ruki reached over and pointed at parts of the equation. “Subtract that and then divide that.” Taemin tried to make sense of it in his notebook but failed. “Why do I have to do that?” Ruki smiled as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Because you have to make a square!~” Taemin shook his head. “It doesn’t make sense…” Ruki gave a frustrated pout as he pointed at the book impatiently. “Why not? Didn’t you read the examples and explanations?” Ruki questioned. “I did but it didn’t make any sense!” Taemin flailed his arms in the air. After 40 minutes of Ruki repeating himself and Taemin still not understanding, Ruki gave up. “If you don’t get it then I can’t help you!” Taemin smacked Ruki’s shoulder a few times. “Then explain it better!” Ruki placed his palm against Taemin’s forehead, pushing the boy out of arm’s reach as the younger still attempted to slap the other. “I explained it the right way!” Taemin finally withdrew, hugging his knees and sighing. “Well I need to get this homework done and I need to understand it. I have bad enough grades as it is…” He looked at his feet. “Oh, I know! I’ll ask Minho Hyung! He’s so smart, I’m sure he’ll know!” Taemin reached for his phone and began dialling, pressing the phone up to his ear. “Hey, are you saying I’m not smart?~” Ruki said in a defensive tone, but was silenced when Taemin placed his finger up to Ruki’s lips. Ruki nibbled on his finger as Taemin began speaking. “Ah, hello Hyung! Are you busy now? Well… no everything’s alright. Yeah. Can you do me a huuuuuuge favour Hyung? I have math homework due tomorrow and I don’t get it at all. Well, I was kind of hoping you could.” Taemin giggled as Minho guessed the reason for the phone call. “The library? Uh, I think my house would be better if that’s fine with you? Yeah? Great! Okay, see you soon! Saranghaeyo Hyung!” Taemin smiled as he hung up, placing the phone back on the table. “Minho Hyung is coming!” He said with a wide grin and he crawled into Ruki’s lap, pinching the elder’s cheeks. “Gee, you seem really happy. Why can’t you be so happy to see me, eeeh?” Ruki pouted, but Taemin disregarded it. “Minho Hyung is so kind. Whenever I need him, he’s always there for me. Even with things this small or when I don’t ask him for help.” Taemin found himself blushing as he spoke highly of his friend. “I can be like that too! You have my number but you never called me for help!” Taemin poked Ruki’s cheek, a small dimple forming where his finger made the dent. “We last saw each other a few days ago. I’d like to think I’m not so problematic as to need help so often! But I’ll remember what you said. Next time I’m in the bathroom and there’s no toilet paper, you’ll be the first person I’ll call!” Ruki rolled his eyes sarcastically before flicking Taemin’s forehead. Taemin the elder’s finger before getting up and walking over to a mirror hung straight on the wall. “What are you doing, Tae-chan?” Ruki asked, cuddling into the couch as he watched the younger boy slip and hairband off his wrist. “I’m just putting my hair up.” The younger boy styled his hair patiently, giving each strand a purpose. He puffed out his cheeks in anger as a few strands kept falling from behind his ear and onto his face. Ruki forced his body off the couch and walked up behind the boy. He slowly took out one bobby pin from his hair, the high amount of hairspray keeping that area in place, holding the pin in his mouth as he softly pulled back the intruding strands and clipped them in. Taemin got shivers from the boys gentle touches, staring at the mirror as the taller boy did what must have been a daily routine. He turned around, looking up at Ruki. “Thanks.” He said, smiling sincerely. Just a Ruki’s lips parted, a knock interrupted them. Taemin’s face lit up. “It must be Minho!” He ran for the door as it opened on its hinges before Taemin could even reach it. In came a snow frosted Minho, shaking the flakes off his hair as he stepped in, closing the door. “You took too long to open it and it’s way too cold outside for me to wait any longer.” His tone trailed off as his eyes caught a tall, skinny figure by the bed. Is this the girl from before? He asked himself, his blood suddenly boiling for no reason he could possible think of. “Ah, Minho, this is Ruki! Likewise, Ruki, this is Minho.” He watched as Taemin gestured towards her. “He’s who you saw leaving last time.” He? Minho watched as Ruki bowed from across the room. “I didn’t realise you saw me, I would have properly introduced myself then~” He hadn’t heard properly before, but now that he was so close, his voice was definitely that of a male. “He’s actually one year older than you, Hyung.” Taemin offered. “Ah.” Minho bowed back respectfully. Ruki began waving his arms in front of him. “Ah, no, please don’t! You’ll make me feel like an Ojisan!” Ruki begged. Taemin stepped around Minho as he peeled the jacket off the older boy, placing it on a hanger in the neighbouring closet. “Ruki is from japan.” Taemin explained as he led the boy to the table where textbooks and sheets were sprawled around. “Thanks for coming to help Hyung! Ruki tried helping but… I guess I’m a bit too stupid to understand it like everyone else does.” Minho sat down across the low coffee table from the other two, glancing over the notes. “So what did you need help with?” He made himself comfortable in the heat of Taemin’s house as the boy leaned over and pointed to a question on a spare sheet of paper with scribbles all around it. “Prove the quadratic formula ax^2+bx+c. I just don’t understand it.” Minho hummed. “Do you have a clean paper and a pen I could borrow?” Taemin nodded, handing the boy the items. Minho patted his lap, gesturing Taemin over. Taemin crawled over around the table, making his way to Minho as Minho’s eyes were glued to Ruki, as if he were doing something suspicious when in all honesty, he was just sitting and observing. Observing Minho. Taemin spread Minho’s legs as he nudged himself in between, Minho bringing his right arm around the boy, pen in hand. “Alright, so let’s start with the equation ax²+bx+c=0.” He scribbled it onto the page. “You have to start by subtracting C from both sides. Now we have ax²+bx=-c. We have to divide both sides by A-“ Taemin placed a hand over Minho’s, stopping him as he turned around. “Wait, Hyung, why do we have to do everything to both sides?” Minho pointed to the equals sign. “Because each side has to equal the other. So whatever we do to one side, we do to the other.” Taemin nodded, turning back around. Minho hoped Taemin understood because at least then he’d have some kind of upper hand on this guy right? Not that he needed one for any reason. What was the upper hand even on? He continued. “Anyways, we divide both sides by A, giving us x²+(b/a)x=-c/a. You complete the square by taking the coefficient on x (b/a), halving it (b/2a) and squaring it, (b/2a)². Add this to both sides… and we get x²+(b/a)x+(b/2a)²=-c/a+(b/2a)². Write the left hand side as a perfect square and you have (x+b/2a)² = -c/a+(b/2a)². Now we have to expand the right hand side which makes it (x+b/2a)² = -c/a+b²/4a². Multiply –c/a by 4a/4a to get a common denominator: (x + b/2a)² = -4ac/4a² + b²/4a². Combine the fractions on the right like (x + b/2a)² = (b²-4ac)/4a² and take the square root of bother sides like x + b/2a = ±√(b² - 4ac) / √4a². Don’t forget to put ± to show its not positive nor negative from the information we were given. Simplify-“ Minho paused as Ruki’s voice came over his. “You don’t really need to do that.” Minho’s eye’s darted up at the tanned boy sitting on the couch. “Sure we don’t. But he doesn’t understand it and needs all steps. When he begins to get more comfortable with this, he can cut some corners, but for now, I’m going to be as thorough as he needs me to be.” He cleared his throat. “Simplify: √4a² to2a like x + b/2a = ±√(b² - 4ac) / 2a. Hang on, we’re almost done. Subtract b/2a from both sides: x = -b/2a ±√(b² - 4ac) / 2a. The fractions on the right have the same denominator of 2a. Tada.” Minho said, his voice coming out more monotone than he aimed for. “Hyung..” His enthusiasm fell sharply. “Do you still not get it, Taemin? I’m sorry, we can try again-“ Taemin turned around his eyes wide and b with happiness. “N-no, this actually kind of makes sense!” Taemin smiled widely, kissing Minho on the cheek. “Hey, that’s not fair! I basically said the same thing!” He stomped his feet a bit, smacking his cheek with his forefinger as he pointed to it. Taemin was surprised that he wasn’t bruising his own skin. “Well, you tried. Fair enough.” Taemin giggled, leaning over the table, planting his lips softly on Ruki’s cheek. The boy leaned back satisfied as Taemin sat back down next to Minho, a hidden put on his hyung’s lips as he nearly glared at Ruki for stealing the attention Taemin was giving him. “Hyung, would you like anything to drink? Juice, water, coffee maybe?” Minho searched his head for an idea. “Do you have orange juice?” Taemin nodded. “What about you, Ruki?” Ruki wiggled his shoulders, “Tae-chan, make me some hot chocolate, hai?” He said, sticking the tip of his pointed tongue out. “Of course Ruki.” Taemin said as he laughed, standing up and walking over the fridge where he took out a carton of orange juice and a glass. He poured some into the glass while reaching over to a cabinet and pulling out a little plastic cylinder, opening his coffee machine and putting it in. Ruki look straight at Minho before offering a preppy smile. “You and Taemin seem really close.” Minho’s eyes wandered to the boy working hard in the kitchen. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” Ruki leaned in, propping his elbows up on the table. “How did you two.. start to know each other..?” Ruki said, disappointed with his loss of wording. “Meet?” Minho offered. Ruki nodded. “I saw him crossing the street and a car was going really fast and was going to hit him, so I guess I kind of jumped in front and softened the hit.” Ruki’s jaw fell open upon hearing the story. “That’s not true is it?” Minho nodded, a smile forming on his lips from the other’s disbelief. “No, I don’t believe you! Taemin,” he yelled, “Is it true Minho saved you from a car?” Taemin laughed from the kitchen, his pleasing giggles ringing through the small house. “Yeah. He’s my hero.” Taemin cooed. “Wow… that’s so cool. Well thank you for saving my Darling~ without you, we would have never met!~” Minho raised an eyebrow. “Your darling?” Ruki nodded. “Yup, Taemin Is my kawaii darling!” Ruki preached. Minho didn’t know whether he should believe this guy or not. Was Taemin dating him? “Wait, are you two a couple?” Taemin made his way back from the kitchen. “No, we’re not.” Ruki on the other hand was nodding and smiling happily, and If Taemin hadn’t spoken first, he might have even believed his bubbly expression. “We probably are.” Ruki said, his lips curled upwards. “We’re not.” Taemin confirmed, kneeling between the two as he placed the hot mug in front of Ruki, the boy’s hands snatching it instantly as he enjoyed the drink instantly. Taemin put a clear glass orange juice in front of Minho, feeling fingers along his scalp. Minho pulled him close and closed his eyes, nuzzling into Taemin’s plush hair. “Thanks, Minnie.” Taemin blushed as he felt the warmth accompanied with the new nickname. He pulled away as he felt himself getting flustered, looking at the floor. “You’re welcome, Hyung.” He said, fiddling with his own fingers. His eyes quickly darted up as he gasped, as if remembering something. “Ah, really, I should be thanking you! You helped me get my homework done and actually know what I’m doing for once.” He turned to Ruki who was staring back at him with his already half empty mug in his hands. “Both of you.” Ruki blushed, pulling Taemin’s head in against his chest tightly, messing up his hair. “Tae-chan, you are the cutest little thing and Ruki-chan will love you forever and ever! Whenever you need something, just tell me! I’ll buy it for you, I’ll help you, I’ll get it done, okaaaaay~? I promise I’ll father your children!” Taemin tried to pry himself out from Ruki’s arms “Who said anything about babies?” Taemin said with a slight hint of embarrassment. “Actually, guys can’t have kids so It doesn’t even matter.” Minho said as he began tugging the back of Taemin’s shirt, trying to pull him away from Ruki. “Well you never know, he might be the first one! There’s only one way to find out, right Tae-chan?” Ruki said as he pulled Taemin’s face close to his, and winked. Minho began tugging harder now, a tug of war between the two older boys initiating.

“Guys can’t get pregnant!”

“We’ll see what you say when Taemin has my babies!”

“Hey, uhm, you two… my arms are starting to hurt…”

A/N: Omo.. what even is this.. it’s not even a chapter.. I’m so tired I just didn't want to break the Sunday updates schedule I've been keeping up lately TT TT.. I’ve been trying to write this for half the week and couldn’t make it have any point or meaning… I guess it’ll just develop RukiTae’s relationship? Now they’re starting to warm up, well, Taemin is staring to warm up to Ruki so it’s fine. Anyways, are any of you going to any of the Infinite world tour concerts? I am~ ^\\0\\^

Oh, also I had a dream that a kpop band came to near my house (probably infinite Because I didn't really know them but in my dream I was really into them) and I reeeeeeally wanted to make one of the members a cake but every time I tried giving them the cake, it fell apart and it was like almost night time and my mom came to me and was like "hurry up with the cake Because I asked him to wait Because you wanted to give him something but all the other members left already " so I finished it but he wasn't there anymore and then like a kpop parade (?) Came through town and he drove by in a car and recognized me and came but with a friend and I gave him the cake and then I looked at his friend and it was Onew and I squealed super loud and I remember saying "Oh my God, I love your smile, It's so dazzling and amazing-" and then They both gave me a hug and then I woke up but Omg i was so happy xD

Chapter 108: Dude, why am I just reading this now?! I... It feels weird that this is the end. It was so lovely and woah I can't believe how much you put into this story. Even though I wasn't here from the very start, I still feel how big a deal this is. I'll miss it too. I can imagine how different things will be now that you're finished and won't have the same routine, but don't feel sad. I think relief is a better option lol now you have this work to look back on while writing new things ^^ congratulations on seeing this through and being so consistent bc wow man, that was quite a schedule. I hope you'll continue to contribute more stories to the fandom (particularly 2min) haha good luck :) <3
