Chapter 72

False Awakening

It was past four now and the group was searching for somewhere to eat.

“We should let the birthday boy decide what we’re eating!” Heechul claimed, looking into the mirror to catch Taemin’s glance. “What do you want to eat, babe?”

                “I want… cheese cake!”

“Cheese cake?” Minho asked, “That’s a dessert, not a lunch or dinner.”

“Honey…” Taemin pouted, his eyelashes fluttering. “It’s my birthday…”

Being as easily won over as he usually was, he agreed and used his phone to look for anywhere nearby where they could buy cake. His reward was more than enough, especially when Taemin gave him a thankful kiss, and whispered an ‘I love you’. Minho began to accept that he was just probably, definitely, completely obsessed with Taemin. Everything the boy did, whenever he looked in his direction, how he lifted things, and held things, and ate things, all of this made Minho so happy. The fact that Taemin had been calling him ‘Honey’ all day today as well made him unbelievably optimistic.

Having the whole backseat to themselves, Minho was pleasantly surprised when Taemin pushed him down onto his back and used his body as a bed.

Smiling, the younger boy peppered Minho’s face with several kisses, each in rapid succession. “I love you.” He continued to whisper until he managed to block out everyone else in the car. Grabbing a nearby sweater, he pulled it over their heads, providing them with privacy as he boldly deepened the kiss.

At first, the others didn’t pay much attention, but they all noticed that the longer the pair was at it, the more playful Taemin was getting and the more Minho was giving into his wishes. It seemed like they were in their own word.

Feeling slight jealousy, although he didn’t know its source, Ruki reached over and pulled the sweater, the only thing separating the two from everyone else, and exposed them.

Caught with his tongue in Minho’s mouth, Taemin his lips clean, sitting up.

“No wonder Minho calls you kitten.” Ruki began, “Tae-chan, if you had ears and a tail, you’d be the exact definition of a playful kitty. Maybe I should start calling you ‘Kitten’ too.”

“No, no, no!” Minho interrupted him, “That’s only reserved for me. You have ‘Tae-chan’.”

“Why don’t I get to call him that?!” Ruki whined, “It suits him so it’s only fair that I get to call him that too!”

“No you can’t! That’s my personal nickname for him!”

Crossing his arms, Ruki wasn’t sure if he was jealous of Taemin for having someone so overprotective as Minho or if he was jealous of Minho for having such a good looking boyfriend like Taemin.

Reading the blonde’s gaze, Taemin kissed him on the cheek. “It’s okay, kisses aren’t only reserved for Minho.”

“Then I’ll have what he did.” Ruki teased, pointing to Minho as his lips closed around Taemin’s.

Pulling back right away, the younger boy shook his head. “That’s a special menu.”

“Yeah, those kind of kisses are reserved for me.” Minho stated, over the parts of Taemin’s lips that Ruki invaded.

“Then what if I kiss you instead?” He playfully winked.

“No, you can’t kiss him! You can’t kiss him, Ruki! His lips are mine only! He’s only mine.”

“It’s good to share with your friends, Tae-chan.”

                “I’m not good with sharing.”

“No fighting, children!” Heechul shouted from the front, “Or me and mama Jongin will turn this car around!”

“Mama Jongin?! What do you mean mama Jongin?! There’s no way! I’m the dad! And even then, Taemin is the only person who can be the mama!”

“Why is it never me?!” Ruki whined.

“It’s okay, Jongin. I can be your mom.” Taemin reassured him.

“No, not my mom! I’ll be the dad, and you’ll be the mom! You’re my wife!”

“Oh, right, then I can be that too.”

“Then who’s going to be my wife?” Minho asked, disappointed.

“I can be both of your wives!”

There pointless banter continued until they were all hungry and desperately looking for a meal.

While Minho, Ruki, and Heechul were inside the shop, buying cakes, Jongin and Taemin were playing around outside.

“Who looks handsome today?” Jongin would ask.

“Hyung does!” Taemin would coo back.

“I think that when I marry you, I’ll always buy you cake.”

“What about meat? I like meat too.”

“I’ll buy you meat cake. Steak with strawberry icing on it.”

“Ew…” Taemin laughed, pinching Jongin’s shoulder.

Ruffling the fluffy brown hair he loved so much, Jongin kissed Taemin’s forehead.

                “I love you.” He chirped.

“Ah, I’m not sure yet, but I might love you too.” Taemin teased before turning Jongin around and hopping up onto his back. “Now carry me, peasant.”

“I go from someone you love to a peasant? What is this?”

“Life.” Taemin stated. “Now let’s take a picture.”

They prepared for a photograph but before they could take it, Minho walked out, clapping his hands.

“Jongin, the other two want you inside to decide which toppings or flavours you’d like to add and if you’re okay with the ones they chose. Let me take the child off your hands.”

Being taken from one pair of arms to the other, Taemin watched as Jongin walked inside. The moment he was gone, Minho held him closely and jogged over to the car.

“Hey, slow down!” Taemin told him, “If you trip, I’m going down with you.”

                “Hold on.”

Climbing in, he placed Taemin in the back, closing the doors.

                “What is it, hyung?”

“I just want to spend some time with you away from the others. I mean, they’re great, but you’re greater, and it’s had to act how you want with the person you love when you have three extra sets of eyes watching.”

“Won’t they be back soon?” Taemin asked.

“We have maybe… ten to fifteen minutes? The lady said that’s how long it’ll take to add the details to the base cake or whatever, so they said they’d just stay inside. Thanks to me sending Jongin away, you have me all to yourself.” Minho chuckled. Taemin loved his chuckle. “Are you tired?”

“A little bit.” The younger boy nodded.

“Then you’ll probably be really tired when we get home, huh?”

                “Yeah.”

“Then how am I supposed to make love to you if you’ll just want to sleep?”

“Hm… I guess you’ll have to do all the work.”

                “As per usual.”

Gasping, Taemin sat up, hitting Minho on the shoulder. “What do you mean ‘as per usual’?! Do you want me to show you what you doing all the work looks like?!”

“I’m joking, Kitten, I’m joking!” The elder laughed, “You know you drive me crazy in bed. But really, maybe you should take some of your clothes off.”

Looking over his shoulder and staring through the window, Taemin shook his head. “Minho, we can’t do that! Not here! They’re all right there and are going to be back in just, what, ten to fifteen minutes?”

“Not just ten to fifteen, Kitten. We have a whole ten to fifteen minutes.”

“What if they decide to come back and wait in the car?”

“Then we’re going to have to finish up fast, aren’t we? But instead of wasting time debating this, why don’t we get your pants off?”

The three were talking inside the air conditioned shop, sitting at the table, when Ruki felt his addiction kicking in.

“I’m going to smoke a cigarette.” He said, standing up and pulling the pack out of his pocket.

As he walked out he checked his other pocket for the lighter, he realised it wasn’t there.

“Aw, I must have left it in the car.”

Skimming over the parking lot, he saw their car. He wondered why all the shades were pulled down, but he noticed that one wasn’t pulled down all the way and he could peek into the car from where he stood. Having his eyes try to spot something inside the darkness of the vehicle, he was surprised when Minho’s face came into view from an angle that suggested he wasn’t sitting. His fingers were interlocked with someone else’s as he slammed their hand against the window. The thin wrist and brown hair that came into view made it clear that that person was Taemin, as if it wasn’t obvious all along. Taemin’s hands escaped from Minho’s grasp and began grabbing onto anything they could, nails digging into the unsuspecting objects. As the elder stole a passionate, vicious kiss, his eyes flickered upwards and met Ruki’s.

His stare seemed so dangerous and animalistic, like he could control Taemin with a hand signal and owned every cell of his being. It made Ruki’s heart beat faster than he ever remembered it beating and he felt extremely disappointed when Minho grabbed the shade and pulled it down all the way. With a red face and uneven breathing patter, Ruki clenched his chest. He would do anything to have Minho look at him like that, to be on top of him like that, to own him like that.

But then there was Taemin, and his tiny figure, and the way he grabbed at everything so desperately, and the way his hair looked when it was messed up.

His realization seemed to shock him the most, the fact that he seemed to be, in the nicest terms, desiring both of them. His mind fogged over and an imaged forced its way into his head. He was on top of Taemin, pleasuring the boy to no end, but he was under Minho, being pleasured by him. He started wondering how disgusting he must be for wanted not just one person who was in a committed relationship, but his partner as well.

The door behind him made a jingle as it opened and he turned around to see Jongin walk out.

“Heechul’s making sure everything is good and he’s going to pay for it.”

                “Oh… okay…”

“Are you alright? Your face is all red.”

“Um, yeah. Hey, don’t you ever feel bad that you like Taemin, even though he’s in a relationship?” Ruki asked.

“No. Why should I feel bad for loving someone? I still think I’m the best one for him and that he should break up with Minho. I just… Taemin asked me not to show my love so much because it upsets him. Technically he said it upsets him, but I’m positively sure he’s okay with it and it’s Minho who gets upset.” The younger boy confidently answered.

“Have you ever slept with Taemin?”

“Almost. We basically did everything there is to do, but Minho interrupted us before I could actually… you know, put it in.”

Questioning his own motives, Ruki looked at the ground. “What was he like? Taemin, I mean.”

“I could write a novel about it… he’s just… it’s indescribable. His lips are so soft and he knows how to move his body so that you get in an instant. The way he looks arching his back and the way he moans is to die for.”

                “Oh. What about… um, Minho?”

“I don’t know… I guess I’d like to say he’s horrible but from what I hear at night sometimes… he seems to make Taemin feel really good.”

“Does he act as… I don’t know… does he always look so great even in bed?”

Raising an eyebrow, Jongin looked suspiciously in his direction.

“U-um never mind! Forget it!” Ruki tried.

                “Ruki… do you like Minho?”

“Wh- no, of course not!” He tried defending in a high pitched voice he didn’t expect.

“Oh my God, you do, don’t you?”

                “N-no!”

                “That’s great!”

                “…What?”

“If you like Minho and I like Taemin, we can help each other out! You know, I scratch your back, you scratch mine?”

Shaking his head right away, Ruki looked back towards the car. “N-no way! I can’t do that! They’re both my really close friends! They’re the first friends I ever made outside of Japan!”

“Who says you can’t be friends after? Break ups don’t always mean no one talks anymore.”

“Yes it does! I’ve been through it before!”

“So you wouldn’t hear me out if I had an idea?” Jongin pouted, shoulders slouched.

                There was slight hesitation.

                Then there was extreme hesitation.

Jongin did end up getting pretty far with Taemin and using up each of his chances their maximums. He could have a great idea, and honestly, just because he was going to hear it, doesn’t mean he was going to do it.

“What is it? I-I’m just hearing you out! It doesn’t mean anything…”

“Fair enough. Just imagine this… So I say me and you are going on a date-”

“What does this have to do with them?”

“Just listen! I say that we’re going on a date, but because it’s my first date with someone other than Taemin, I want him to go with me, and so naturally, he’ll bring Minho and it’ll become a double date. Then, at some point during the date, I’ll get Taemin to go with me somewhere and you’ll be left alone with Minho and enjoy a personal dinner with him.”

“That’s so… wrong, Jongin, we can’t do that.”

“Alright, fine. I won’t force it upon you, but if you ever change your mind, you can come to me.”

Interrupting their conversation, Heechul came out with the cake.

                “Okay guys, let’s go.”

Swallowing, Ruki grabbed Heechul’s arm. “Maybe we should wait a bit?”

“Why would we wait? Come on, we don’t want a warm cake.”

Being dragged towards the car, Ruki held his breath as the others climbed inside. Moments later, he climbed in as well.

“Why is it so dark in here?” Heechul complained, pulling on all the shades and letting them spring up, letting sunlight in.

When Ruki turned around to look at the couple, he was surprised to see that they showed no proof of committing any of the acts they had. It’s like they just sat there the whole time.

“Taemin, sweetheart, I got you your cake.” Heechul smiled. They reclined the two seats in the middle row completely and used it as a makeshift couch. “Do I get a kiss?” He asked.

As Taemin began leaning in, Minho put his hand between them, directing Heechul’s face towards his instead. “Sure, sure, close your eyes.”

“Oi!” The elder yelled, smacking Minho away, “I only kiss cute boys!”

“Ouch.” Minho joked, smirking. “Sorry, I didn’t know you had a bottom complex.”

“Bottom complex? Oh there is no way I’d be the bottom ever and especially not with you!”

“Do you want to place a bet on that?” As the final word came out of Minho’s mouth, he caught Taemin’s glare and automatically shrunk back into his seat. “I mean, forget it.”

Cutting the cake, everyone got a slice on a paper plate and they dug in instantly, but only after they sang happy birthday.

“Happy birthday, dear Taemin… Happy birthday to you!”

                Clapping, they all cheered.

Halfway into the meal, Heechul pulled out a small bag from under one of the seats. “I actually got you something.” He said.

“Oh, me too!” Ruki added, reaching into his bag.

Smiling, Minho nodded, “I think we all got you something.”

“Did you?” Taemin gasped, “You didn’t have to!”

“Of course we did. We all care about you and you deserve it.”

Being offered Ruki’s gift first, he opened it and found a photo album, cute decorated by hand.

“I figured you might want a place to keep all the photos you took today.” He explained.

“Wow… you put so much effort into this… Thank you so much.” Taemin said in awe, leaning in and hugging Ruki tightly. He felt the blonde’s heartbeat speed up against his chest but ignored it.

“Mine’s next!” Heechul demanded, shoving his bag onto Taemin’s lap.

Taking all the tissue paper out, he found another box, and inside that was an expensive looking watch. “Wow, hyung, how much did this cost?”

“It doesn’t matter, Minnie. You’ll be paying it off by wearing it.”

“What do you mean?” Taemin asked, flipping it over, but then his question just really answered itself. Engraved on the underside of the watch were a few sentences along the lines of ‘Heechul is the best and always pampers and takes care of me. I love him a lot and he loves me back but he will always love me more because he is the best, selfless human on this planet and that’s why I will be his friend forever’. Snorting, Taemin shook his head, trying to hold back his giant grin.

“What is it?” The rest of them asked, and Taemin passed it around.

“Wow, if that’s what you call ‘selfless’ than I’ve been living my life all wrong.” Jongin said after reading it and passing it on to Ruki, who wholeheartedly agreed with the statement.

“I’d like to see what you got him, Jongin!” Heechul challenged, crossing his arms.

“I got him something he’ll love and can do with others!”

                “?”

                “No!”

Handing Taemin a box, he watched the brunette open it and look it over happily.

“What is it?” The others asked.

“A two hundred dollar gift card to my favourite restaurant. Thank you so much, Jongin.” Taemin said, his hand brushing over the younger boy’s. “Let’s go together, okay?” Jongin nodded.

“And now the most important one.” Ruki whispered.

“That’s not true.” Taemin whispered back.

“It better be.” Minho jokingly added in before moving onto his confession, “Well, actually, this isn’t just for you, I guess it’s something all three of us would use. And really, it’s kind of big, so I couldn’t put it in a bag… we have to pick it up tomorrow, so for now, a hope a receipt and a photo of it will do.”

With one eyebrow raised, Taemin slowly opened the envelope that was given to him.

Everyone watched in anticipation as Taemin pulled the contents out, and were all surprised when the brunette’s jaw dropped and he looked as if his eyes were going to pop out.

They were about to asked what it was until Taemin turned to the side and stared directly into Minho’s eyes.

                “You got us a car?!”

When Minho gave a small nod, more than satisfied with the reaction, Taemin dropped everything in his hands, pulling the elder in for a passionate kiss.

Staring at the glossy photo that showed a chic looking, all black vehicle, they all replicated Taemin’s reaction.

“Well way to outdo us!” Heechul whined, throwing his hands in the air.

“Oh my god, Minho, you didn’t have to!” Taemin repeated, still cupping Minho’s cheek.

“I’d get the world for you.”

“I don’t have my driver’s licence yet and you-”

“I got mine done yesterday. I can drop you and Jongin off at school now, and if you want to wait after school for a few minutes, I can pick you guys up too.”

“Minho… I love you so much.”

                “I love you too.”

Watching the two so madly in love, Ruki decided he really was jealous of both of them, and he hated himself because for a split second, he considered Jongin’s option.

Chapter 108: Dude, why am I just reading this now?! I... It feels weird that this is the end. It was so lovely and woah I can't believe how much you put into this story. Even though I wasn't here from the very start, I still feel how big a deal this is. I'll miss it too. I can imagine how different things will be now that you're finished and won't have the same routine, but don't feel sad. I think relief is a better option lol now you have this work to look back on while writing new things ^^ congratulations on seeing this through and being so consistent bc wow man, that was quite a schedule. I hope you'll continue to contribute more stories to the fandom (particularly 2min) haha good luck :) <3
