Chapter 79

False Awakening

“Do you think I’d look good in a white suit? If you don’t… I won’t get it.” Taemin confessed.

“Well I think you’d look great in everything.” Minho smiled. “Even in and stilettos.”

                “Don’t say that out loud!”

“I’m sorry, the truth just comes out sometimes.” He laughed. “Let’s head in, okay?”

Heading over to the front desk, Minho informed the lady of their appointment and was redirected to another employee, a man, who guided them to the dressing room.

“Are you both looking for suits today?”

“Yes.” Minho said, removing his hand from Taemin’s.

“Do you have anything in mind?”

“I just want something that’s suits a wedding in the park. You know, a nice, black, bit better than usual suit.”

“Of course. And what about you?” The man asked, looking towards Taemin. Minho saw that younger boy shrink back, staring at the ground as he shrugged. “Um… well, I guess it might sound kind of weird, but the, um, suits where the jacket goes down to the knee or is just generally longer.”

                “Yes, yes.”

“And, um… do you think there might be one in white…?”

“Ah, that’s a bit more of a challenge, but I’ll try my best to find something you’ll love. What’s the budget?”

                “$300 maximum per suit.”

                “Alright, I’ll be right back.”

                “Thank you.”

Once he stepped out, Minho kissed the younger boy.

                “Kitten, don’t be shy.”

                “It’s so embarrassing…”

“Just think about it, starting now, there is no one more handsome, and beautiful, and attractive in this salon other than you.”

                “Do you really think so?”

                “Yes, Kitten.”

“You’re not supposed to see the bride until the wedding.” Taemin pouted.

“Good thing I can see my husband.” Minho countered his statement, leaving a line of kisses along the blonde’s neck.

“Won’t they think it’s weird that two guys are changing in the same room?”

“Maybe, but who cares? Our money is their concern, not our relationship.”

“I feel bad that you’re paying for all this.” The younger boy said, burying his face in Minho’s hair.

“Hey, I didn’t work unethical hours and nearly lose my fiancé for you to tell me you feel bad. Just say thank you once and that’s enough. Besides, imagine the satisfaction I’ll get from taking a white suit off of you and making love to you on a bed covered in rose petals.”

“Stop it.” Taemin laughed, muffled by Minho’s shoulder as the elder nipped at his ear.

They flirted for a couple of minutes, Minho pampering the blonde with his words. “I love you.” Taemin whispered.

                “I love you more.”

“Don’t lie.” The younger boy laughed.

They shared a few kisses, stopping only when the employee returned, three large bags in each hand.

“So I picked out three suits for each of you.” He explained, hanging each set on a hook. “If you’d like, change into the first ones and I can come in to make sure everything fits as it should.”

Thanking him, they waited for the man to step out, putting on the first suit they grabbed.

“Wow, this is really pretty…” Taemin said in surprise, examining what he imagined in physical form. “The inside is so smooth!”

                “Try it on, Kitten.”

Focusing on all the details he would never expect, Taemin took his pants off and exchanged them for the white ones, finding them too big around the waist and too long.

“Don’t worry, we’ll get these tailored. It’ll fit you like a glove when it’s actually done and ready.”

“Would you marry me in this?”

“I’d marry you in a tee shirt and jeans, Kitten.”

                “Do you like it?”

“Yes. Try on the other ones though, okay?”

                “Okay.”

Reaching around, Taemin thought that he was in love with the first suit, but when he took the second one, he had an even better reaction.

“Honey, look! Look at this one!” He proclaimed, pointing the one of the pockets. “It’s like… folded or something, I don’t know, I don’t sew, but look at it!”

Minho peeked over his shoulder, but being captured by the younger boy’s smiled, he ignored the suit, kissing him instead.

                “M-Minho, stop- look at it!”

“You look better though. Hey, I’ll help you change into it.” The elder offered, undressing the blonde boy which stood in front of him.

“But why aren’t you looking at it?”

“Because you look so much better than a suit.”

“Okay, but just for one second…”

Holding it between his fingers, he felt the material, nodding. “You’re right, it is nice.”

Pulling the jacket out of its bag, he held it up for Taemin, making sure the boy comfortably fit into it. “Is it comfy?” He asked, staring Taemin up and down through the mirror.

“It is…” Taemin said, examining the lace. “But I think it looked better off of me.”

“I think the other one suited you more.”

“Me too. Hey, I didn’t get a good look at you. Let me see.”

Spinning around, he planted his hands on the elder’s chest, flattening out any wrinkles that could have been there.

“It’s not fair.” He mumbled, ruffling Minho’s hair in an attempt to at least mess up some of the perfection. “Why do you look good in everything?”

“Baby, what are you talking about? I don’t look good in everything. It just happens to be that suits look good on everyone. It’s nothing special.”

“Are you dumb? Do you not know how handsome you are? Do you not realize that no matter what you do or how you look, heads turn when you enter the room?”

“I can’t even begin to think of what I look like when I have someone as gorgeous as you standing in front of me.” Minho shot back, earning a blush and pout.

                “Stop it.”

                “Stop what?”

“Stop flirting with me. I’m getting mad. It’s upsetting me because you’re a smartass.”

“Does this smartass get a kiss?” Minho prodded, puckering his lips.

“Of course not.” The blonde replied, refocusing his attention onto his suit. “I like the details but the shape of it… it’s not flattering.”

“You know you don’t have to go for something white and long, right? You can just go for a regular black suit. We’re both guys so you… you don’t have to imitate a wedding dress. Neither of us has to play the woman in the relationship or anything.”

That statement seemed a bit odd to Taemin. He wasn’t intending to imitate a wedding dress. It’s just that when he got proposed to, the image that popped into his head was Minho in a stunning black suit and him in a long, white, detailed one.  It wasn’t like he was trying to get as close as he could to a wedding dress for a guy, he just wanted Minho to be proud of the way he looked and remember him when they’re old and wrinkled and rolling around in the wheel chairs.

Then his thoughts swapped around. Maybe it did have something to do with him being a guy. Maybe it did have something to do with the fact that Minho was older, manlier, and led in the relationship. Aside from all that, he was also far more charismatic, he was the one who proposed, the one who made the major decisions, and the one who topped in bed, so naturally, if this was a heteroual relationship, wouldn’t Taemin be the woman? Maybe, in the end, he was just trying to not deprive Minho of the thing the majority of men wanted most on their wedding day; a wife.

“Well if I wanted to wear a dress, I’d wear one, wouldn’t I?” He muttered, looking down at the white, laced jacket in his hand. It did resemble a dress quite a bit.

“Yes Kitten, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say what you were picking out looked like a dress. I just want you to know what although our wedding is fairly traditional… you- there is no bride, or anything. We’re both guys, right? So if we both wear suits, it’s fine. In fact, it would be more traditional that way. And, um, I think you’re stunning in anything.”

“Why are you being like this all of a sudden?”

Minho shrugged, hugging Taemin from behind as he tried to figure out the wording for a thought he was still in the process of developing. “I just- I don’t know how to say it. Just… pick something you’ll want to wear because you like it and you think it looks good on you. Don’t choose something just because you think I’ll like it or because it seems more traditional. It’s your day just as much as it is my day so be happy and wear something to be happy in, okay?”

“But I want you to be proud when we see each other…”

“That is not important at all, Kitten. Honestly, as long as I can see your face, put that diamond ring on your finger, and call you mine forever, that’ll make me proud enough.”

Squeezing Minho’s cheeks between his hands, Taemin smiled, leaning in and kissing the elder’s nose.

“That’s romantic of you. Hey, I’ll give you one last twirl and then I’m trying on the next suit, okay?” The younger boy asked, waiting for a nod from Minho before going back to the professionalism he had previously that day as he modelled confidently, smile on his face in front of his lover’s eyes.

Nodding happily, Minho watched as the blonde posed several times in y, cute, silly, and serious poses, earning chuckle after chuckle.

“I like this. I should have brought the camera here too.” He laughed, winking in Taemin’s direction, causing the younger boy to stop in his tracks, heart rushing.

                “I love you, Honey.”

                “I love you too, Kitten.”

“Should we try the next suit? The very last one?” Taemin asked, imitating the voice of a television announcer as he tried to create an atmosphere of anticipation.

“Yes, yes, yes! Go for the last one, Baby!” Minho clapped, mimicking the roars of a crowd. The smile on Taemin’s face was priceless so he knew he did a good job.

“Is this really how you wanted to spend your birthday? Pretending you’re a stadium of people while you’re in a dressing room at a wedding boutique?” The blonde asked, undressing.

“Not necessarily, but I didn’t anticipate anything so I guess this isn’t a bad outcome. Either way, I got things done while spending the whole day with you, didn’t I? Anyways, next suit, let’s go.”

Minho grabbed his second suit while Taemin grabbed third. Cracking jokes, they took their time changing into their next outfit, the elder flirting a little on the side.

As always, Minho looked amazing. The blonde’s suit looked better than the second one, but not as good as the first, which still wasn’t what he really dreamed of.

Tugging at the material and looking at himself from every angle humanly possible, he sighed. “Well, let’s see you.” He said, turning around to face Minho. “I like this one better.”

“Me too.” Minho decided, looking in the mirror.

The blonde couldn’t help but notice how the tightness of the dress shirt showed off the older boy’s muscles, his abs clearly defined.

Trying not to show his disappointment, Taemin took a seat. “Hey, try on your last one, okay?”

Memorizing his appearance, Minho undressed, trying on his last suit. Although this one was amazing too, Taemin felt like the second one definitely outshined the rest. “I like the second one the best.”

“Yeah, me too. It’s only two hundred as well. I really like it… I’m definitely considering it. How about you?” Minho asked, the dreaded question.

                “Honey…”

                “Yes?”

“I don’t think I look good in any of them…”

“Are you sure? I thought you looked great in the first one. The one you’re wearing right now also looks amazing.”

Taemin shrugged, staring at the white jacket which covered his lap. “I don’t think so… You look so good in everything, the second suit you had on was amazing, but these… They don’t suit me at all…”

Crouching down between the younger boy’s legs, he rested his head in the blonde’s lap. “Hey, are you sure you don’t like any of them?”

“Yeah… I think they all looked better in my head than they did on me…”

“What if you put on a different colour tie?” Minho asked as the employee came back, interrupting them, bag in hand.

“I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, but I had difficulty finding a suit I had in mind for you.” He apologized, looking in Taemin’s direction. “It’s a bit different than what you originally wanted, but it’s still white. It does have a coat that comes, or rather, is part of this set, which I can bring as well if you want, but I wanted you to see yourself in this first. It comes in three parts, a specific dress shirt, vest, and a pair of pants. The designer also made accessories, such as ties, which come with it, and also shoes, but those don’t necessarily ruin the appearance if you don’t get them. If you don’t mind, I think you’ll like this one very much if you style it correctly, so do you mind if I assist you?”

Hopelessly taking another bag from the man’s hand, Taemin agreed, waiting for him to look away so that he could express his lack of excitement.

“Okay, well let’s give it one more shot. Hey, just for the fun of it, don’t look until I’m done.” He told Minho.

Biting his lower lip, the elder kissed the blonde’s stomach before standing up and turning to face the corner of the room.

“Just let me do all the work.” The worker smiled. “I’ll make sure you look great. Here, let’s have you not look either. I find that the shock tends to be better when you don’t see the progress, but rather only the end result.”

                “Okay.”

It’s not like he expected any shock in the first place.

Closing his eyes, Taemin let the man guide his limbs, undress him, dress him up, anything. He felt the pair of pants he had come off and another, much smoother one, come on. The he felt a dress shirt much silkier than his current one replace it. There was something layered over it. Something he couldn’t really imagine, but something he’d see the moment he’d open his eyes. Followed by that, he was dressed in things like a tie, watch, and gloves.

“Alright then, I’ve finished. I’ll step of out the room for a second. Once you hear the door shut, how about you look into the mirror?”

Taemin nodded. He listened for the footsteps, the doorknob turning, the creaking door, and finally the door shutting.

Taking a deep breath and hoping that this suit was at least a little better than the second one he tried on, Taemin turned around and opened his eyes.

What he saw in the mirror was the last thing he expected.

He stood there, all in white. White pants, dress shirt, vest, gloves, tie, shoes, white everything. It was all very fitted as well, showing off his figure. It was true that all the other coats were long and completely hid his figure, but this was completely the opposite, hugging his every curve.

Then, as if the area around him disappeared, he could see himself walking down the aisle, walking straight towards Minho who smiled so proudly, so brightly that I blinded him. Breathless, he was surprised when his eyes blurred, tears forming.

He wanted them to stop, told himself that there was absolutely no reason to cry, but none of that worked. They just kept building up until they overflowed, leaving his cheeks damp.

“Hey, can I turn around already?” The elder asked, a little impatient and excited.

“N-no, don’t look yet…” Taemin told him. And Minho listened, at least until he heard a sniffle followed by the quietest sob the younger boy could manage.

“Kitten, are you crying? Can I turn around?” He asked once more, no longer really caring for the answer he got.

                “N-no, don’t look!”

Regardless, he did, met with the sight of his gorgeous, all-white fiancé crying. “Taemin, what’s wrong?!” He began, in a panic.

                “I-I don’t know… I just… I can’t stop crying… I saw myself in the mirror and just… I don’t know…”

Wrapping his arms around the blonde, he squeezed him, rubbing circles on his back. “Do you like what you see? Can… you see yourself getting married to me in this?”

Nodding, Taemin couldn’t help himself anymore.

“Then isn’t this the one if this is the reaction it brought on?”

                He nodded again.

Somehow, out of nowhere, his random confusion turned to anger. Minho, stuck in the middle of it, found his chest being punched seconds before he was pushed away only find the blonde back in his arms before he could blink.

“You idiot!” Taemin yelled, hitting him again. “You idiot, why did you have to drink so much?!”

                “Wh-what? I-I don’t drink anymore-”

“What if we didn’t talk, and you kept drinking, and we never talked again, and I- I wouldn’t be here right now, planning for my wedding?! What if we never made up because you were drunk all the time and then I’d be single try… trying to find someone who suits me as perfectly as you?!”

“K-Kitten… let’s not think about that anymore, okay? That was a long time ago and I-” He paused, laughing although he probably shouldn’t have, “I was fortunate to be engaged to someone as forgiving as you so don’t look at the past anymore, okay? We’re past that bump. Just look towards the future.” His hands grabbed Taemin’s shoulders, pushing him away and moving him in front of the mirror. “Just look ahead to the day when we’ll be dressed like this again and you’ll be meeting me at the end of the aisle, meeting at the place where we’ll vow to be each other’s forever.”

Taemin’s mouth was shut, but somehow, his lips said ‘kiss me’, so Minho did, and Taemin kissed back.

“Hey Kitten, look at yourself one more time and tell me if this is the suit you want or not. If it is, we’ll take everything you’re wearing right now, regardless of the price.”

                “Is that okay?” He whimpered.

                “Yes, baby, it’s okay.”

                “Then… I want it…”

“Okay, we’ll get it for you.”

Giving him one more kiss, Minho sent him back to his original clothes, telling him to get dressed. While the blonde did that, the elder went to the door, telling the employee that they’d take both suits, and all of the additional items that Taemin’s came with.

It was late as they headed home, a second appointment to get their suits fitted made before they left the boutique.

With his tears running dry, Taemin squeezed Minho’s hand as they headed into their apartment.

The elder was surprised to see a dark, empty house with a single, flickering light source coming from somewhere in the living room. “Hey, where’s Jongin?”

Taemin didn’t answer, locking the door behind himself before leading Minho towards the light.

                “Should I be worried?”

He heard the boy laugh but still got no reply. When the hallway ended, all he saw was a dark room illuminated by a cake and candles, a present sitting beside it.

“Happy birthday.” The blonde whispered, slipping into the elder’s arms.

“When did you get this done, Kitten?”

“Between breaks I guess. Um, Jongin’s staying over at a friend’s today so…”

                “So?”

                “So… don’t make me say it…”

“I’m guessing the blankets draped over the couch around just to keep warm?”

“Whatever the blankets are used for doesn’t matter right now because we have to eat cake first, so let’s go.”

With both of them sitting down, Taemin pulled the platter holding the cake a bit closer, right in front of his fiancé. “Hey, make a wish, okay? And make it good because you won’t get another chance until next year.”

Staring straight into Taemin’s eyes, Minho nodded. The way he looked right here, right now, in the dark, made the younger boy shrink back, feel intimidated.

                “I wish-”

“Hey, stop, if you say it out loud, it won’t come true!”

“-that you can stay by my side forever. I wish that you can spend every birthday with me, and that I can spend all of your birthdays with you. I wish that we can keep being together like this forever. I wish that you’ll still love me on my thirtieth birthday, my fortieth birthday, my eightieth birthday, my hundredth birthday. I wish that I’ll only make you cry from happiness from here on out. I wish that our wedding will be the most amazing day of our lives. I wish that you’ll smile as much as me, and I wish-”

Without letting the elder get another word out, Taemin pulled him in for a passionate kiss which was responded to with him being laid down and pinned onto the couch. Their limbs tangled and they got far more intimate until their kisses grew so aggressive that their teeth knocked.

Both of them pulled back, hands over their mouths.

Locking eyes, they both laughed. “See, this is what happens when you say your wishes out loud and don’t blow out the candles.”

“Oh, you’re absolutely right.” Minho played around. “I’m sorry, Kitten.”

                “It’s okay. Happy birthday, Honey.”

“Thank you, Baby. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me today.”

“It’s not like last year, Minho. I’m your fiancé now. I have to step my game up.”

The elder chuckled, quickly blowing out the candles before laying Taemin back down, hands on the blonde’s thighs while their lips grew closer. “Well then I guess I have to step my game up too, don’t I?”

“What do you have in mind?”

Although it was pitch black now, Taemin could tell Minho was smirking.

“It involves , cake, and candle wax.”

Chapter 108: Dude, why am I just reading this now?! I... It feels weird that this is the end. It was so lovely and woah I can't believe how much you put into this story. Even though I wasn't here from the very start, I still feel how big a deal this is. I'll miss it too. I can imagine how different things will be now that you're finished and won't have the same routine, but don't feel sad. I think relief is a better option lol now you have this work to look back on while writing new things ^^ congratulations on seeing this through and being so consistent bc wow man, that was quite a schedule. I hope you'll continue to contribute more stories to the fandom (particularly 2min) haha good luck :) <3
