“Tiffany, I’m so sorry. Yuri’s your best friend. I didn’t mean for you to have to choose,” said Wooyoung as we entered his cousin’s house.

 

“It’s not your fault, Wooyoung,” I said as I sat on his couch.

 

We were silent and then he spoke again.

 

“So, have you talked to Jessica?”

 

“No, I haven’t.” I said, worried.

 

“Are you?”

 

“I have to. I’ll call him right now,” I said getting out my phone and dial his number.

 

“Hello?” he answered.

 

“Jessie, hi, it’s me Fany.”

 

“Hey, Fany-ah, so I was wondering if 7 was a good time to pick you tonight?”

 

Prom, I had totally forgotten.

 

“Umm...” Wooyoung looked at me confused as I answered, “yeah, 7 is great.”

 

“Perfect. I’ll see you at your place then.”

 

“Wait, can we meet at the river court instead?”

 

“Ok, I guess,” he said in a confused voice.

 

“Ok, I’ll see you then,” I said, “bye.”

 

“Bye,” and then I hung up, looking up to a confused Wooyoung.

 

“I thought you were going to tell him?” he asked.

 

“I was, but tonight’s prom and I already said yes to him.”

 

“Hmm, I understand, tomorrow then?”

 

I nodded, knowing how hard it was going to be.

“Yul, I need my dress!” I shouted from the front door of the apartment.

 

She opened it and then shoved the box containing my dress toward me.

 

“Yul, wait,” I said, stopping the door before she could close it.

 

“What?”

 

“Can you do me a favour and not tell Jessie about me and Wooyoung tonight?”

 

Her jaw dropped but then she sighed and nodded.

 

“Thanks,” I said.

 

“I’m not doing it for you. I’m doing it for Jessie’s sake,” she finished, then slammed the door.

After finished getting dressed, I came out of the bathroom door. Wooyoung got up from his bed and came over to me and gave me a kiss.

 

“You look beautiful. I’m not sure I’ll be able to let you go off with Jessica,” he said, kissing my neck.

 

“I’m sorry, but I promised him,” I said as he stopped kissing me.

 

“I know. Just try not to have fun or make out ok?”

 

I looked at him, and then smiled. I looked at my watch, 6:40.

 

“I’ve got to go,” I said, grabbing my purse and then I started to walk past him but then he grabbed my hand then pulled me into his chest.

 

“Don’t stay long,” he whispered.

 

“I’ll try not to,” I said as he gave me a quick peck on the lips, then let me go.

“Wow, I have to say, you look absolutely beautiful, Miss Tiffany Hwang,” said Jessica as he approached the river court.

 

“Thank you and you don’t look so bad yourself, Mr. State Champion,” I said, smiling.

 

It had only been a few weeks since they won.

 

“That won’t ever get old. Will it?” he said, still happy.

 

“No, I don’t think it will.”

 

“So are you ready?”

 

“Of course,” I said, smiling as he smiled back at me. make me blush and my heart race.

“Hey, look, it’s Yuri and Yoona,” said Jessica once we were inside.

 

We walked towards them, my heart beating nervously as Yuri gave me the evil eye.

 

“Hey, Yoong,” I said standing over a chair at their table.

 

“Hey, Fany-ah, have a seat,” said Yoona.

 

“Oh, well, I’m going to get some punch,” I said.

 

“I’ll go do that for you, Fany-ah,” chimed in Jessica.

 

“No, it’s ok. I’ll do it. Anyone else want some?”

 

“I’ll take one,” said Yoona as Jessica took a seat across from his brother.

 

“I’m ok,” Jessica said.

 

“Yul?” I asked.

 

“Yeah, but I’ll go with you,” she said struggling to get out of her chair. Yoona helped her.

 

We both walked silently towards the punch line.

 

“I’m assuming your living with Wooyoung now,” she said suddenly.

 

“Well, where else was I supposed to go?”

 

“Right”

 

“Listen, Fany. Can we not do this?”

 

“Not do what?” she said taking a few steps forward as the line moved.

 

“Fight”

 

“No one’s fighting”

 

“No, but we’re not friends.”

 

“I’m still your friend Fany. I just don’t like the choices you’ve been making.”

 

I sighed.

 

We were finally at the front of the line. She poured one glass then sipped it, checking to see if there was any continent of alcohol in it. There was, so she just took that one glass for Yoona then left me to pour myself some.

After some awkward glances from Yuri, Yoona and Jessica talked. Jessica asked me to dance.

 

“Can I have this dance?”

 

“Of course, I thought you would never ask,” I said laughing.

 

As we walked to the dance floor, Yoona and Yuri followed. A slow song began to play and we both swayed to the music.

 

“So, have you decided yet?” he asked.

 

“Decided what?” I asked casually, knowing what you meant.

 

“Who you want to be with?”

 

“Umm...” I couldn’t answer as he was reading my face.

 

“I’m assuming you have...and it’s... it’s not me,” he said hurt.

 

I hated this. I hated hurting him. Why did I have to feel for Wooyoung? Why? I kept saying to myself as I saw the hurt in Jessica’s eyes.

 

“I’m so sorry, Jessie,” was the only thing I could manage to say.

 

“No, it’s ok. I’m glad to know.”

 

 “Oh, Jessie... I just want you to know that I do want you. I do. You’re such a great guy but after seeing who I truly am I guess you know now that I don’t deserve you. I really don’t,” I said tears forming in my eyes.

 

He just looked at me and held me close into his chest.

 

“Don’t ever say that. I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve had with you and I don’t regret falling in love with you Tiffany. So don’t ever think that you aren’t enough for me because you are. You’re my one in a million.”

 

I could only cry into his arms as he said this to me, meaning every word.
