In Your Eyes

Let Love...

Jinki woke up feeling a little stuffy. He opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was Amber's face. He was surprised that he pushed her off his bed. Literally.

"Ouch..." Amber said rubbing her back.
"I'm sorry, Amber. I was just startled... What are you doing here?" he asked after sitting up.
"You were sick, remember?" she looked up at him.
"And I'm the one to blame." she gently put her palm on his forehead.
"You're still a little feverish. You should stay in your bed. Don't worry about university, I'll tell Joon." Amber stood up and looked at the clock.
"But... but..." Jinki was still confused why Amber slept next to him.
"Today's the last day!" he exclaimed and Amber knew what he was talking about.
"If you want to come later, take a long rest." she said and pushed him back down his bed with a grin.

Before preparing for school, she went to Mrs Kang to ask her to prepare a bowl of hot soup for Jinki. It was the least she could do. She also told Joon that Jinki couldn't go to university but most probably, he'll come to work cos he didn't want to miss out the last day.

After finishing the soup that Mrs Kang gave him, Jinki went back to bed. He was thinking of the image of him and Amber on the same bed and how close their bodies were. The thought made him smile and he knew it was wrong so he just closed his eyes. He was playing a big part for the last day of Myrtle cafe's celebration. Even if he's not well enough, he still wanted  to come. So he stayed in bed for six more hours. At 3 pm, he was already at Myrtle helping. Amber and Min arrived at 5 and they started helping as well.

"What's that stage for?" Amber asked Min as she pointed at a improvised stage outside.
"I don't know. I guess there'll be special performances from the employees... real employees of course." Min replied.
"Oh... Oppa, are you alright now?" Amber saw Jinki passing by.
"Yup. You don't have to worry and.... I don't blame you." Jinki smiled and continued walking.

"What happened to him?" Min asked curiously.
"He had a really high fever last night. He was literally burning!" Amber exclaimed.
"And?"
"It was my fault. We ran through the rain last night." Amber giggled.
"So you..." Min shook her head.

It was the busiest day since it was the last. For Amber, it felt the longest as well. Few minutes before the closing, they were all called outside. Customers were surrounding the stage and all the employees were standing together at the side including Amber.

"We want to thank everyone who came and participated for our week long celebration. We wish that you'll keep coming and we promised to serve tastier and more inviting coffees in the future. For now, here's our thank you gift to everyone. Please give a round of applause to one of our best employees, Lee Jinki!"

Amber's eyes widened the moment she heard Jinki's name. The manager gave him the mic as he bowed to everyone.

"Good evening, everyone. Won't you mind if I sing you a song tonight?" he flashed a wonderful smile to his "audience" as if he wasn't sick.

Then he started singing.단 한번도 말한적없지만 사실 말야 난 그날에 He closed his eyes as he sang and Amber couldn't help but be mesmerized not only at how beautiful he was in the middle of the crowd but also be mesmerized at his soothing voice. She felt like she had seen him sing like that before but couldn't remember when. But she couldn't care less of what she had forgotten, she could only focus on him and how he sang beautifully. 사랑은 내게로와 너를 이끄는 시간으로

Jinki opened his eyes when he got to the chorus and had his eyes look at the crowd. It wasn't long when he spotted Amber. He couldn't help but keep his eyes on her. To him, her eyes were as if sparkling, as if they were two shining stars. Everyone was playing attention to his singing but Amber was different. He felt like he had seen those sparkling eyes before and he just wanted to keep those to himself. 날 보며 웃는 너 이렇게 좋은날

He turned to the rest of the crowd. He just wanted to finish the song. 처음만난 그 날을 기억해 눈이 부시게 빛나던 그런날에 니가와줘서 고마워 정말.

"Thank you, thank you." he bowed a few times and walked away. Joon knew there was something wrong so he followed him.
"What's up?" Joon asked as he entered the changing room.
"Nothing." Jinki took off his uniform.
"Is something bothering you?" Joon sat down.
"No, nothing. I'm just tired. I wanna go home and rest." he grabbed his bag from his locker.
"You know... You can tell me anything." Joon knew him too well.
"If it's important, I'll tell you but it's not so... Thanks anyways, hyung." he was about to turn the doorknob when...

"It's Amber, isn't it?" Jinki froze from what Joon said.
"It is." Joon had a crooked smiled on his face. Jinki turned around and faked a smile.
"That's just ridiculous, hyung. Bye." he opened the door and left Joon.

As soon as he got home, he lied on his bed and thought everything over. He didn't want everything to happen again. He had enough and he didn't want anything more.

"Jinki oppa, you home already?" Amber knocked on his door.
"Yes, I'm here." he answered.
"You suddenly disappeared... by the way, you were amazing earlier." she just had to say.
"Thanks. Good night." he hid under the cover.
"Good night." Amber got in her room.

After thinking everything through, Jinki finally made a decision. He stood up from his bed and went to Amber's room.

"Uhm, hey?" Amber was organizing her things on her shelf.
"When are you planning to leave?" Jinki asked that surprised Amber.
"Huh?"
"You said you're leaving as soon as you find a new apartment. It's been, what, two months? Are you even lookng a new place?" Jinki was questioning her though it didn't even seem like it's him. He sighed and walked.

Amber broke down. "he's right." that's the only thing she could think of.

Jinki didn't get out of his room the next day. He already told his boss that he's resting that Saturday cos he still felt sick but he knew he was alright. He just made an excuse to not stress about anything when he was already stressed out about Amber. 'Was what I did right?' he started to question himself as well. He's not used of being mean to anyone. He didn't even want to be mean to Amber. 'But I had no other choice.' he sighed. Though he knew to himself that there's always other choices but he didn't want to think of any other choices cos those other choices would only cause trouble. He covered his face with his palms and mumbled some things he didn't want to admit to himself. He fell asleep without realizing it.

One thing he dreamt about was Amber standing by their apartment door with her luggage. She was frowning and her eyes were teary. The image made his heart ache. What broke his heart completely was the moment Amber vanished in thin air and he was just standing there, couldn't move, couldn't follow her and stop her.

The door slammed that woke him up. He knew it was Amber so he stood up from his bed, fixed his messy hair and came out of his room. He took a deep breath as he stood next to Amber's room. He knocked on the door then peeked on it.

"Jia eonni, I'll call you again later, okay?" Amber said in chinese. Jinki noticed that lots of newspapers were scattered everywhere and tons of other paper with apartment ads on it.
"What are you doing?" and he knew he asked a stupid question.
"Searching for a new apartment. Why, do you need something?" Amber put aside all the papers.

"About what I said last night I.... I'm sorry," he paused and entered the room.
"I was really stressed. My mind's not working right. I don't know but... I didn't mean it. You can stay as long as you want. I wouldn't mind." he looked away and scratched the back of his head.
"Yeah?" Amber couldn't think of what to say.
"I don't want you to leave," Jinki couldn't believe what he was saying.
"I like you here." and Amber felt her heart melt when she heard his words.

"Are... are you serious?" Amber's eyes twinkled and when Jinki looked at her with those eyes, he just had to look away again.
"I'm not a very good joker so please don't ask me that question." he said half-jokingly.
"Let me hug you!" Amber ran to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. Jinki couldn't help but hug her back.
"I really thought that you'd kick me out. I knew you wouldn't." she was tightening her embrace.
"Okay, okay. I get it." Jinki was smiling as Amber let go of him.
"You up for some sweets?" Jinki asked as he pinched Amber's cheeks and Amber nodded without hesitation.

After having that "nightmare", he realized that he couldn't let Amber go. He knew there was no way he could escape his feelings for her cos it has already grown. He had already fallen too deep already and there's no way he could swim or climb up to get away from it.

"Chocolate lolli?" this time, Amber was the one to offer.
"Sure." Jinki accepted it.

"I don't know why but these chocolate lollipops remind me of something from the past but I just can't remember." Amber looked at her lollipop.
"You'll remember in time." Jinki took her hat from her head and put it on his.
"Hey, that's mine!" she shouted but Jinki just stuck his tongue out then ran. But as clumsy as he was, he tripped over a pebble. Luckily he didn't completely fall down. He heard Amber giggling right behind him so he glared at her. He shook his head.

"I ain't giving this back to you." he had a sinister smile as he continued running.
"What? We live together! I can take that back whenever I want." she continued running after him.

The next day, Jinki went to Joon's apartment and invite him out to hang out. They spent the whole sunday together playing around the city and when the night came, they had a small drink. Jinki actually had something to tell him since the last time, he was in denial and to think that Joon was his best friend. He had all the rights to know. After a couple of shots, Jinki started talking for real.

"Hyung..." Jinki poured himself a glass of soju.
"What is it?" Joon raised his eyebrows.
"I like her." he murmured but Joon barely heard him.
"What?" Jinki sighed and drank up the glass of soju.
"I said... I like her... I like Amber." he looked at Joon straight in the eyes.
"So? There's nothing wrong with that." Joon already knew cos he just had the feeling.
"What do you mean there's nothing wrong with that?! Everything's wrong! It's not right!" Jinki was shouting so Joon apologized for him though he knew that the alcohol had not affected Jinki yet.
"You really like her, huh?" Joon just chilled and didn't touch his glass of soju. He knew it wasn't the time to get drunk when he's friend was troubled.
"I've never seen you this stress before. Not even before you started dating Seungyeon." Joon added.
"They're different from each other... you know that, hyung." Jinki was actually defending Amber.
"I can see that but Amber has a greater impact. That's it, right?"
"Yeah..." he was afraid to admit it but there's no way he could deny it.
"I don't know, there's just something in her. I can't explain it." Joon had a mocking smile cos he had never heard Jinki talk about a girl like that before.

"But... it's wrong. I shouldn't like her... What if she doesn't like me back?" he drank another glass of soju saying what he feared.
"You're worried about that? Easy. Ask her. I have feelings she likes you too." Joon suggested to his friend.
"You say it like it's that easy. It's not. I don't want to get hurt again, hyung." he's eyes were lonely.

"Jinki, she's just like the both of us. She's a person, too. She makes mistakes, too. You can't expect her to be perfect." Joon was starting to make sense and Jinki was starting to listen.
"Jinki, listen to your heart. Do what it's trying to tell you. You wouldn't know what's right or what's wrong if you don't try." Joon put his hand on Jinki's shoulder.
"You're a clever guy. Act like one." that was the last advice that Joon gave him. His friend was never that right before. And that's when he realized that sometimes he needs advice from other people, too. That he couldn't always do it all by himself.

Then he got himself extremely drunk. Joon just watched his friend. After finishing 5 or 6 bottles of soju, Joon finally decided to take Jinki home. He helped him walk and it wasn't easy. It was even harder when they got to Jinki's apartment.

"Amber." Jinki uttered with his drunk expression.
"Is he... drunk?" Amber looked at Joon oddly.
"Kinda... I mean, yes." Joon couldn't deny since it was obvious.
"Let me help you bring him to his room." Amber took Jinki's other arm but then he started talking.
"Amber... you know what I told Joon hyung?" He turned to Amber trying to open his eyes.
"That I... I li--"
"He likes drinking a lot and now he's drunk." Joon cut Jinki off. He thought that it wasn't right if Amber would know at that way. And Jinki wasn't really in his senses.
"Hyung... let me tell her." Jinki was pushing Joon away as his legs wobble.
"I'll do it myself. You should rest." he took Jinki to his room and let Amber go to her room.

...............................

Sorry for making you people wait. I was away for four days and I didn't bring the laptop with me so I couldn't update.
Hope you liked this one.
The song is In Your Eyes, To The Beautiful You soundtrack that Onew sang.
I personally think that the lyrics match the story well
:)
