Yoseob’s condition was now stabilized, but the doctors weren’t sure for how long. His cancer was back and none of the treatments were working.

“How long does he have?” Yoseob’s father asked.

“We can’t be sure but…”

“AAAA-lalala!” Yoseob started singing and put his hands over his ears. “I don’t want to hear it.”

“We’ll take it later then, I want to be prepared. If that’s possible…” hi father said.

You took Taeyeon out of the room. Her entire body was shaking and her breathing uneven.

“You should go home and rest. Remember what the doctors said; if you want to get back to work…”

“I can’t go back to work! I’m sorry ~~~~~, but I have to stay here with Yoseob. It might be my last chance to be with him…”

“Don’t say like that, you know he hates it, he would get mad if he heard you. You have to get at least one good nights sleep and a proper meal.”

“I can’t leave him here,” Taeyeon said determinately.

“Taeyeon-ah,” Yoseob said in a sing-sang voice from the room. Taeyeon walked past you without even looking at you and then disappeared into the room. You sighed and sat down in a chair. She was so stubborn.

“Let’s go.” Taeyeon came out of Yoseob’s room. You looked up at her. That was pretty fast. You stood up and Taeyeon walked off. You peeked your head into Yoseob’s room. Yoseob smiled and winked at you and you mouthed a ‘thank you’ before leaving. You wondered what he had said to her.

You took Taeyeon with you to work. You placed her in the kitchen and asked the cook to make her something, thereafter you put your apron on and walked out to the dining hall, to do your original job. You had a hard time admitting to yourself, but you actually missed Jonghyun now that he wasn’t there. It felt empty. You immediately. Felt guilty towards Gikwang. You felt miserable, you were such a fool. You took your tray and returned to the kitchen.

“Oh, ~~~~~-ssi. I was just about to get you. There is a phone call for you,” another waitress said. For you?

“Thank you.” This didn’t feel good. No one ever called you at work. “Yoboseyo?”

Your entire family sat outside the emergency room, waiting for news. You stood up as the door opened and a doctor and a nurse stepped out.

“How is he?”

“His condition is critical,” the doctor said. “He needs a heart transplant, or else I’m afraid he won’t be able to make it.”
