Finding out
Hospital Happiness“Taeyeon-ah?” Your voice echoed between the walls on the empty street. She spun around. Her expression was hard-set and determined.
“Yes?” She stared you straight in the eyes and you stared right back at her. You thought through the words you had thrown in her face last night. How could you have been so stupid not to see? You stepped closer.
“If you’re going to yell at me then I don’t want to hear it,” Taeyeon snapped at you. You stopped, still with quite a distance between the two of you.
“I’m not going to yell at you,” you said softly. You quickly walked up to Taeyeon, closing the gap between you, and hugged her tightly.
“I’m sooo sorry, Taeyeon-ah. I didn’t know. I didn’t know what I was talking about. I’m sorry, please forgive me.” You felt tears form in your eyes threatening to flood. Taeyeon hesitantly patted your back.
“It’s okay. How could you know when I didn’t tell you?” she asked. She was comforting you, now who was the grown up? You pulled away and looked at her.
“You should’ve told me though.”
“I know.” She looked away. You sighed.
“Just make sure you don’t wear yourself out, and don’t forget about school.” God, you sounded like your mother.
“I won’t,” Taeyeon said with her eyes glued to the ground.
“Good. So when do you get off today?”
“I’m just going to finish this building,” Taeyeon said.
“I’ll be waiting for you at home.
You sat on your bed with your back against the wall and your eyes on the alarm clock. Wasn’t Taeyeon coming home soon? You continuously tapped your fingers on the bedside table while waiting impatiently. Suddenly you heard a noise from the hall. You got up and walked quietly towards the sound. You exhaled in relief when you saw Taeyeon taking her shoes off, not really knowing what you were worrying about in the first place.
“Why are you so late? I thought it was only one building. What took you so long?” you whispered. Taeyeon jumped a little at the sound of your voice, you had scared her. She avoided eye contact.
“I ran into a friend,” she said evasively.
“At this hour?” you asked sceptically. Taeyeon sighed as she put her shoes on the shoe rack.
“I’m telling the truth, it’s your choice to believe me or not, just don’t make a big deal out of everything.” Taeyeon walked passed you and locked herself into the bathroom. You lingered in the hall way staring thoughtfully at the closed bathroom door before returning to the bedroom. You had a feeling that your sister was still hiding something from you, but what it possibly could be… you had no idea.
