Now or Never

How I Met Byun Baekhyun

“So who is it?”

"Who is what?"

Eunji grinned widely as she nudged Chanmi who was staring back at her in confusion. She turned to look at the 11 pictures on the big mahogany table in the meeting room. Chanmi blushed when she realized what Eunji meant. Her eyes traced over the faces as she tilted her head to the side, her mind starting to wander.

"Hey! Snap out of it!"

They turned to look at Baekhyun entering the room with a scowl and hands full of food. He made his way to the table as he handed the food to Eunji. Baekhyun turned to Chanmi as she began stuffing her face.

"So what are we looking at?" He frowned, "We have 11 guys who seem interested in Chanmi."

"Not bad huh? I guess you are pretty good," Eunji rolled her eyes, "That's not a compliment by the way."

"Got it."

Chanmi glanced at the pictures and felt a soft burning sensation in her stomach. She wasn't sure if it was because of the spiciness of the meat or by the fire in their eyes that made her want to throw up. But she felt she had hope to finally meet 'The One'.

"So Chanmi, who did you end up liking?" Eunji couldn't help but ask, "Who made you feel that burning sensation?"

"Well..."

"Never mind that, " Baekhyun scratched his head, "We can just eliminate the ones that don't fit her type."

He grabbed the pictures and put them on the board before crossing out the ones he knew Chanmi didn't like. Baekhyun's lips slightly twitched as he purposefully made the X's cover their faces. He stood back to look at his masterpiece as he motioned for Eunji to make notes.

"We can take out Junmyeon, Kyungsoo, Jongdae and Minseok. Which leaves us with Luhan, Chanyeol, Kris, Sehun, Jongin, Tao, and Lay."

"So it leaves us with 7?" Eunji clarified, her hands moving like lightening over her laptop."

"Yes, so now we can eliminate the non-funny ones and the ugly ones."

Baekhyun flipped over his notes as he turned to look at Chanmi who sat quietly. He felt his eyes harden when she stared at her lap, her hair faling over her face. She winced in pain as she rubbed her forehead, silently cursing at Baekhyun who held up his pen again.

"What is it Chanmi?"

"What do you mean?"

"I know that look on your face which means you want to say something."

"Well..."

"Go ahead," Eunji encouraged her, "What did you want to say?"

Chanmi lifted her head up and took a deep breath as she cleared her thoughts. She noticed Baekhyun leaning back, waiting for the impact of what she was going to say. She couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking. Maybe she wanted to stay alone forever? Maybe she was just hungry? Or worse. What if she wanted Baekhyun to help her forever?

"WelIthinkthattheywereallsweetandthatmaybeIshouldgoonanotherdatewiththemtomakesurethattheyarematchesforme? Suho was nice and D.O made me food and you should have seen Minseok's and Jongdae has these amazing biceps.

"What? What did you say?"

"I said," Chanmi smiled sweetly, "Well I think that they were all sweet and that maybe I should go on another date with them to make sure that they are matches for me?

•••••••••

"Can you believe her? She wants to go on more dates! Not just 1 or 2 or 3 but 11 more dates!!"

"Well you can't really blame her. Did you see how they look? I wouldn't mind having her leftovers."

Baekhyun rolled his eyes at Eunji as she went back to oggling at the profiles. This wasn't the moment to be joking as he felt his brain ready to explode. He's dealt with clients who couldn't stop at just a few dates but never one this bad. There was something else going on but he couldn't figure out what it was. She's testing him. That's what it is. Chanmi is getting revenge.

"What did I do to her? What did you do to her?"

"What are you talking about?"

He paced over the room, his brain making calculations as he rubbed his temples. How long did he have to keep doing this before finally being the true king? How long can he eat take-out before dying of a heart attack? How long will he have to dry clean his suits to get rid of every single dog hair that was on them? How much longer will he have to wait outside her apartment building to make sure she got home safely? Chanmi was trying to kill him.

"Why would Chanmi want to go on more dates?" Baekhyun cried, "She can just pick one out!"

"I don't see what the problem is," Eunji shrugged, "It's a win-win situation for both of you. Chanmi will find her soulmate and you'll finally be the "Matchmaking King."

"It's not about that."

"Then what is it?"

Baekhyun opened his mouth but nothing came out. What was the problem? Eunji was right. He would finally become the most prominent businessman in Seoul and his company stocks will rise. He'll finally prove that he was successful. That he is successful. He would finally show them that they were wrong.

"So what's the problem?"

"I'm not sure," He blinked, "There shouldn't be a problem."

•••••••••

"What a jerk. I can't believe he kicked me out just because I didn't agree with him."

Chanmi stared at her stuffed bear that Chanyeol had won at the amusement park. Her vision was blurred by the bright green liquid swirling around her straw glasses as she flipped through a magazine. The store was empty, as usual, which meant that she had a free day of relaxation and matchmaking. The clock chimed 10 times which meant that she had an important date to start getting ready for.

“So I’m not allowed to do what I want? It’s all up to that stupid jerk?”

She put her headphones on as she munched on some snacks, her feet propped up on the counter as she buried herself deeper into her magazine. The doorbell sung softly as the door opened, making Chanmi jump up. She pulled her hair into a messy ponytail and flung off her bib as she bowed deeply.

“Welcome to Seoul Books. Is there anything I can help you with?”

Chanmi smiled widely as she heard the bell ring not just 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 more times. She took a sip of her drink before looking up to see 11 men crowded inside the front of the shop. Her face quickly went white and she braced herself by grabbing the counter. Her heart beat faster as she shook her head. She peeked once more and felt her lunch slowly making its way to . Her eyes wandered over them: looks of confusion, realization and anger on their faces.

“I-I-I” She felt her body giving up, “Wh-wh-what…”

“Chanmi! You need to leave befo-”

The door slammed open and Baekhyun ran inside, clutching his stomach as he tried to regain his breath. He smiled at her but stopped when he noticed 11 pairs of eyes staring at him.

“Oh god no."

•••••••••

“Did you finish scheduling all the dates?"

"Yeah, I used your computer since mine wasn't working."

Baekhyun nodded at Eunji as she handed him some boring paperwork. He quickly skimmed over the materials and signed them off before handing it back to her. His eyes trailed over her face as he cautiously cleared his throat.

"Did you schedule Chanmi for this week?"

"Yeah. I booked her today and for the rest of the week. She doesn't know who it is so that way she won't have any bias."

"That's good. What time is her date today?"

Eunji tapped her chin, "I think around noon since most of them have time off then. They've been pretty busy and kept on pushing back the dates."

"Ok. Sounds good. Thanks."

Eunji clicked her tongue as she walked out, her barefeet squeaking on the waxed floors. Baekhyun shook his head and went back to his paperwork. He could feel his eyes gravitating towards his computer, the mouse just a few inches from him. All he needed to do was just give it a small push.

"Just a small peek wouldn't hurt."

He mentally kicked himself as he looked through the client files until he landed on his most important client. Baekhyun swallowed softly as he looked through Chanmi's progress reports and future dates. He let out a gasp and the air knocked out of him as he kept refreshing the screen.

"Oh no. Please. Oh no."

Baekhyun snatched his car keys and ran out the door. His voice grew louder and higher as he struggled to get inside before speeding off. Eunji ran inside the office and flipped the screen over. Her eyes grew wide and her lips grew even wider.

"It's now or never 'Matchmaking King'. Now or never."
