Together pt. 3

Chaennie Shots (Volume 1)

“I..you look great Jennie.” Jongin smiled, while Jennie just nodded her head, “It’s weird how we somehow ran into each other like that..literally.” The guy tried to keep the conversation going, “Yeah..mhm.” But Jennie was obviously not interested.

“Hey since it’s been so long why don’t we grab some dinner or something and talk?”

“We really don’t have anything to talk about.”

“Jennie.”

“Jongin..please. I thought we agreed to just be strangers.” Jennie shut her eyes, she really didn’t need this right now, especially now that she knows how this sorry excuse of a man threatened her Rosie in the past.

“But..Jen..I..”

“No buts. I know everything that you did. Just be glad I haven’t done anything to ruin you. So now, if you’ll excuse me.” Jennie side stepped around Jongin, walking away without looking back.

~

“Okay who pissed you off?” Chaeyoung asked, while a grumpy Jennie plopped on the couch in the blonde’s office with an annoyed sigh, “That jerkface sorry excuse of a man that’s who.”

“Am I supposed to know who that is?” Chaeyoung asked, getting up from her desk chair and settling next to Jennie.

“It’s nothing you need to worry your pretty little head about.” Jennie immediately snuggled next to Chaeyoung, feeling much better.

“If you say so, you know I’m here if you need to talk or in this case vent.”

“I know Rosie.. I know.” Jennie hummed.

“Right, so what actually brought you here today?”

“Ah that…uhm I just want to k..”

“Chaengie let’s go eat!” Suzy barged into Chaeyoung’s office, not even bothering to knock.

“Suzy hi..hey.” Chaeyoung cleared , quickly straightening herself out.

“Hey yourself..oh Jennie’s here too I see.” Suzy forced a smile at the other girl.

“Hi.” Jennie’s reply was monotonous.

“So Chaengie you promised me lunch today.” Suzy went to Chaeyoung’s side, hooking her arm around Chaeyoung’s elbow.

“...I did.” Chaeyoung nodded, throwing an apologetic smile towards Jennie.

“Yes, so now let’s go! Jennie you know the way out right? C’mon Chaengie I’m hungry.” Suzy spoke while literally dragging out with her.

“Oh but...I..Suzy wait I..” But Chaeyoung’s words fell on deaf ears as Suzy dragged her out.

“What just happened?” Jennie looked around, somehow Suzy was able to literally snatch Chaeyoung away. Realizing this, the girl quickly followed after the two.

“Now wait a minute.” Jennie managed to slip into the elevator right before the doors closed, holding onto Chaeyoung’s other hand, “We were in the middle of a discussion.”

“You guys can talk after our meal.”

“It’s important.”

“Well then whatever you need to say to my Chaengie you can say in front of me.” Suzy declared, leaning her head on Chaeyoung’s shoulder.

Jennie scoffed at this, rolling her eyes, “It’s private between MY Rosie and me.”

“Chaengie.”

“Rosie.”

“Tell her to go.”

The two women were both clutching tighter and tighter onto Chaeyoung, while said girl is praying for someone to save her.

Once the elevator doors opened, the last person Chaeyoung wanted to see was on the other side.

“Oh...Jen we meet again.”

“Kim Jongin?? What are you doing here.” Chaeyoung found her voice, instinctively standing in front of Jennie, blocking the man’s view of the girl.

“I don’t answer to you Park.”

“Excuse you, that’s Dr. Park.” Suzy stepped forward, putting herself in between Chaeyoung and Jongin.

“Yeah whatever. If I knew they let a doctor like you here I wou…”Jongin’s voice faltered, and his face contorted in pain.

“Hey are you okay?” Chaeyoung stepped forward and tried to check on Jongin.

“Get off me Park.” he brushed her away, still clutching onto his side.

“Look even if I dislike you I’m still a doctor. Now let me help.”

“Stop being so stubborn and let us help.” Suzy also got close as well.

“I don’t..” But Jongin couldn’t finish his words, finally losing consciousness. Thankfully, both Chaeyoung and Suzy were able to catch him so he didn’t hit his head.

“Suzy go grab a gurney.” Chaeyoung commanded, Suzy nodded quickly running down the hall.

“Jen.” Chaeyoung called out to Jennie who had been quiet since seeing Jongin again.

“Y-yeah?”

“Let’s talk at home okay? You and Ella will be coming back to my place tonight right?”

“Yeah...is he going to be okay?” Jennie asked. She may hate the man, but he’s still Ella’s biological father.

“Until we figure out what caused him to be in that much pain, I don’t know.” Chaeyoung paused, “You can stay with him, until he wakes up...if you want.”

“No..it’s fine. He’s an adult and we’re nothing to each other. I’ll just see you at home.”

“Okay..I’ll be back early tonight.” Chaeyoung nodded, as Suzy came back with the gurney and 2 nurses.

“Let’s get him to the ED and get some imaging done. Suzy page Wendy and ask her to find out why he was here.”

“Jen...I’ll see you later!” Chaeyoung turned back as they began to wheel Jongin away.

~ ~ ~

“Can’t I stay up for a few more minutes?” Ella pouted, it’s already an hour past her curfew, and Jennie usually doesn’t let the girl stay up this late, but the little girl was so excited when Jennie told her Chaeyoung might go home early.

“I already extended your bedtime, so no.”

“But mommy.” Ella began to whine.

“Ella...have you ever wondered who your dad is?” Jennie asked. Seeing Jongin today got Jennie thinking that she should let Ella decide if she wants to know who her dad is.

“Honestly?” The 7 year old looked up at her mom, and shocked her no.

“Why not?” Jennie asked.

“Because I know he made mommy sad….I heard grandma and grandpa talking about it once. They said that my dad took away your smile, and all I want is for mommy to be happy.”

“Sweetie...come here.” Jennie cuddled her daughter, “Listen okay, whatever happened between your father and I...don’t worry about it. If you want to see him or know about him tell me. I know we’ve kept you pretty hidden, but my little girl is getting bigger and I don’t want to take this away from you.”

“Okay mommy..uh maybe a photo?” Ella asked.

“Alright..I’ll go find one.” Jennie nodded, “Now sleep. I know you wanted to wait for Rosie, but you still have class tomorrow.”

“Mhm.” Ella yawned, her eyes starting to finally feel heavy.

“Goodnight baby.” Jennie kissed her daughter’s forehead once the little girl was in deep sleep before leaving her room.

Shutting the door, Jennie pulled her phone out and called her dad and told him about running into Jongin and how Ella feels about knowing him.

“Well princess...it’s your call. But if he wants to be a part of Ella’s life, he needs to know there will be boundaries. I won’t let him hurt or take advantage of my granddaughter.” Jennie’s dad was stern.

“I know dad and I won’t let him.”

“Alrighty then...let me know what you want.”

“I will. Thanks dad, love you.”

“Love you too princess. Send my regards to Chaeyoung.”

“I will. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

Meanwhile, at Yunje University Hospital a certain someone is finally regaining consciousness.

“What happened?”

“You’re up. That’s good.” Chaeyoung sat at the stool next to the man.

“Why are you still bothering me Park?” Jongin glared.

“I’m a doctor here. You passed out earlier.”

“And? Do you want a thank you card or what?”

“Okay what’s your problem with me really? I never did anything to you. You were the one that threatened me back then. You should be thankful I didn’t have my family sue you.” Chaeyoung retorted, done with the attitude Jongin has been giving her.

“My problem is you Park. You’re always around Jen even back then, she would always choose you over anything. Blowing me off saying ‘Oh I can’t go out tonight Babe, Rosie blah blah.’ It was always Rosie this, Rosie that. It was always you Park. Her eyes were always on you. That’s why I did what I did back then, because I needed you out so that she can finally see me, like I see her.”

“You think I’d believe those words? You were the one that cheated on her multiple times and used her for money. Only ever calling her out when you wanted her to buy you something or do something for you. You never once cared for Jennie. So don’t you dare try to make me look like the villain here.”

“I loved Jennie. I love her till now. Do you want to know why I cheated, why I changed? Because of you. In the beginning we were happy. But then a year in I noticed how she would always want you more. Maybe it’s cause the honeymoon phase died down, but I hated seeing how much you light her up in a way I had never done. So I went out, tried to bury the pain by seeing other people, acted like a jerk because I was so jealous of you.”

“You are such a you know that Jongin. She loved you so much and you treated her like a toy. You don’t deserve her then and you certainly don’t deserve her now.” Chaeyoung breathed out, “But I saw your chart…”

“Don’t go pitying me now Park.”

“I’m not, just...you should clear things up with her.”

“I really don’t have that much time left huh.” Jongin’s voice turned somber.

“I’m sure Dr. Jo has already discussed this with you, so I won’t reiterate what he said.”

“Right.”

“Here.” Chaeyoung held her card out, “Call me...if you decide to talk to her. I’ll help you.”

“I...uhm..thanks.” Jongin took the card.

“Yeah..no worries. Take care of yourself.” Chaeyoung nodded before leaving the man.

“Chae.” Suzy grabbed the blonde’s arm, stopping her from leaving.

“I’m fine.”

“I hate when you do that.” Suzy shook her head, dragging the blonde with her.

“Where are we going?” Chaeyoung asked.

“Away from here.”

“I told you, I’m fine.” Chaeyoung insisted.

“Park Chaeyoung, just...let me okay?” Suzy looked at Chaeyoung with a soft look.

“Alright.” Chaeyoung didn’t have the heart to say no, “Where are we going?”

“You’ll see. Just trust me.” Suzy smiled, tucking the loose strand of Chaeyoung’s hair behind her ear.

With that, Chaeyoung followed Suzy into her vehicle, forgetting about a certain brunette who was now beginning to worry about the taller girl.

~

“Jen it’s 2am what’s going on?” Lisa’s voice was groggy.

“Are you at the hospital?”

“No, why what’s going on?”

“Rosie said she was going to come early tonight, but she still isn’t home. I’m just worried. Wendy said she saw her car there still...but she..”

“Okay Jen, calm down. Have you tried calling her?”

“Yes, I’ve called, left voicemails, texted. I’m about to call a favor from the general if we don’t find her.”

“That’s a little much, just calm down. Chae is an adult, she can take care of herself.”

“Yes, but she’s never gone radio silent like this.”

“I’ll call the staff and see if they saw her leave. I’ll get back to you.”

“Okay..thanks Lis...sorry for waking you.”

“It’s fine. I get it.”

Jennie was still anxious even after Lisa texted and told her that Chaeyoung was on her way home. So when she heard the front door chime, Jennie was tripping over her own feet.

“Rosie.” She jumped into the blonde’s arms who was surprised by the sudden attack.

“You’re still up? It’s late.” Chaeyoung whispered, hugging the girl tightly.

“You said you’d be home early and I got worried cause you weren’t answering your phone and I...where were you?” Jennie pulled back, cupping Chaeyoug’s face with her palms.

“I’m sorry...I just needed some time alone to think about things.”

“Are you okay? You know you can always talk to me.”

“I know. I’m fine now, don’t worry. Why don’t we get you to bed hmm?”

“Okay.” Jennie nodded letting Chaeyoung drag her towards her room.

“Rosie..” Jennie tugged the girl’s arm stopping her from opening Jennie’s door, “Can I...I mean is it okay..if I sleep with you tonight?”

“Oh..uh yeah..that’s fine.” Chaeyoung agreed, sidestepping and opening her door instead.

Once Chaeyoung finished showering and slipped into bed next to Jennie, the shorter girl immediately had her arms around Chaeyoung, “I was really worried about you. I almost called the military.” Jennie admitted.

“What?” Chaeyoung chuckled, “You can be so dramatic you know. Did you try calling me?”

“I did, I called, left voicemails, and texts…”

“Huh?” Chaeyoung frowned, reaching over to grab her phone, “Ah...sorry..” Chaeyoung bit her lower lip, “I didn’t notice.”

“I know.” Jennie’s tone was sarcastic.

“Alright stop being mad, I promise next time I’ll be more mindful of my phone.”

“Hmm you better, or I’ll really call in the military.”

“Yes yes, now sleep. I’m tired, it was a long day.” Chaeyoung patted Jennie’s head, pulling her closer.

In a moment, Chaeyoung was fast asleep, but Jennie was still up, watching as the blonde’s chest rose and fell with each breath.

“I love you Rosie.” Jennie whispered, leaning her head back on Chaeyoung’s chest, listening to her heartbeat.

Chaeyoung worried Jennie a lot tonight, so much that the fear she had of losing Chaeyoung had come back to the forefront of her mind.

~ ~ ~

“Okay Chong-ah tell me honestly, where were you last night?” Lisa asked cornering Chaeyoung in the hospital’s cafeteria.

“Around.”

“No there’s...there’s something more. You don’t just leave like that Chaeng, I know you. Plus you left your car here.”

“Lisa..”

“I know you were with Suzy...Jihyo saw you guys, she told me..well actually she told the whole staff you know how she is.” Lisa gave Chaeyoung a pointed stare.

“Nothing happened Lis.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did you go off with her? God, when Jen hears about this..” Lisa looked at her friend.

“I’m sure you already know from Chu that Jen and I ran into Jongin yesterday.”

“Yeah..and?”

“There’s just….things that Jen doesn’t know about him.”

“Oh no no no, you don’t get to be the Chaeyoung who doesn’t fight for her girl.”

“What?”

“Chong-ah c’mon ever since you would always let your feelings for Jen take the backseat.”

“I do not.”

“Please..you do. You think that Jen would pick them over you when..” Lis stopped herself, “Just fight for her Chae. You guys already kissed, just make it official. Who cares about Jongin?”

“I do, because whether we like it or not, he’s Ella’s biological dad.”

“Right...but you know that Jen won’t let him know about Ella.”

“You never know Lis...things are different now.”

“Chae.”

“It’s fine… things won’t change.” Chaeyoung smiled, before leaving Lisa behind.

“I know...that’s what worries me.” Lisa sighed, watching as Chaeyoung’s back faded among the crowd.

~ ~ ~ ~

Chaeyoung figured Jongin would contact her as soon as possible, and she was right. Two days after meeting again he called and asked if she could set-up lunch with Jennie, which the blonde was able to do easily.

“Hey I’m here where are you?” Jennie called Chaeyoung, looking around the restaurant for blonde hair.

“The back booth, away from everyone.” Chaeyoung replied.

“Oh I see it. Okay see you in a bit.”

“Mhm.”

Ending the call, Jennie made her way to the booth with a smile on her face. She hasn’t seen Chaeyoung in days due to a sudden business trip to Singapore.

“Hey, did I keep...Why are you here?” Jennie glared at the man seated in the booth.

“Chaeyoung helped me.”

“Oh you guys friends now?” Jennie sarcastically remarked.

“Jen..can we just talk please?”

“No Jongin, there’s nothing left for us to talk about. Why are you being so stubborn now?” Jennie sighed, her mood soured.

“There is..there’s a lot..like our daughter.”

“What are you talking about?” Jennie remained firm, perfectly masking her surprise.

“Don’t put your guard up Jen, I’ve seen you around with her..She looks just like you..She’s beautiful.”

“Since when.”

“Just recently by chance...I work in the office near her school. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out her age and do the math.”

“Don’t tell me you’re going to use my baby as a little pawn to extort money out of me, because let me tell you something Kim Jongin, the minute you hurt my baby girl you will personally know what hell on Earth feels like.” Jennie threatened, her tone masked with venom. She was like a cobra waiting to strike at her prey.

“Don’t you think if I was going to do that, I would have done it already? Why wait? Also, do you think Chaeyoung would have even helped me set this up if that was the case?” Jongin made valid points, “Can you please just put a pause on your resentment towards me and listen. I’m begging you…” Jongin’s eyes were begging.

“Fine, but I’m not doing this because of you. I’m doing this to ensure that you won’t hurt my daughter or Rosie.”

“Of course.” Jongin shook his head, trying to hold back from making a snide comment, but the sarcasm in his voice was picked up by Jennie.

“What? Got a problem with that?”

“Yeah..I do or rather did. You know I really loved you Jen, like so much.”

“Why do I find that hard to believe?” Jennie interrupted.

“The first year of our relationship, we were happy right? So happy..I was so happy with you. You made me happy. But after the honeymoon phase, I slowly realized that no matter what I would always be second to Chaeyoung. Whenever we went out, all you ever talked about was Chaeyoung. You’d blow me off because of Chaeyoung. It was always Rosie this and Rosie that with you. It made me wonder, are you dating me or are you dating Chaeyoung?”

“Jongin….I..I did care about you.”

“I know, but you never loved me like how you love her right? You don’t have to answer, because I’ve always known it was her. But I do want to apologize for being immature..for cheating and using you like my personal bank.” Jongin stood up and bowed 90 degrees, “I am extremely sorry for what I did Jennie Kim.”

“Lift your head, it’s all in the past Jongin. I forgive you and I’m sorry too...for not giving you the love you deserve.”

“I guess we’re really adults now.” Jongin chuckled.

“I guess so.” Jennie agreed.

“Now, about our daughter.”

“Jongin.”

“I’m not asking for shared custody...I don’t have the right to, but please let me meet her. Spend some time with her. She doesn’t even have to know I’m her dad. Just let me have memories with her.”

“No..I’ll tell her about this and then let her decide. But she’s heavily protected from the public, I don’t want her going through what I had to. Being followed, attempted kidnappings...I want my daughter to live as normal a life as possible.”

“Okay. Don’t worry Jen..I’ll protect my daughter too.”

~ ~ ~ ~

“Park Chaeyoung.” Jennie stomped into Chaeyoung’s office, arms akimbo.

“Oh, I must be in trouble, you used my full name.”

“Nope, don’t act all cute, that’s not going to work on me. You tricked me.” Jennie pointed an accusatory finger at the blonde.

“When did I ever do such a thing?” Chaeyoung acted appalled.

“Lunch today? Mhm yeah...why did you do it?”

“We had a somewhat decent conversation after he woke up that day.”

“How can one conversation…”

“But did it go well? Got your closure and all that?” Chaeyoung interrupted.

“I didn’t need closure in the first place, but he knew about Ella.”

“He did, I mean he does??”

“Yeah that was my reaction too, but I tried to play it cool until the end. He wants to meet her.”

“Well that’s something you and Ella should talk about. I mean he is her dad Jen.”

“I know, it’s just...there’s something off with how Jongin practically begged for time with her...I don’t know.”

“Don’t overthink it Jen, just ask Ella. She should get a chance to choose.”

“Yeah I know, I’ll talk to her tonight before bedtime.” Jennie finally softened up, walking over and leaning on the edge of the blonde’s desk.

“Okay what else is bothering you?” Chaeyoung stood up, tilting Jennie’s chin up so the girl was looking at her in the eyes.

“I..” Jennie leaned her forehead on Chaeyoung’s chest, “I’m just worried about Ella..I don’t know if I fully trust it when Jongin said he won’t ask for shared custody.”

“Even if he does, it’s not like he’ll be taking her away from you forever? It’ll just be like a weekend. You can think of it like Ella staying with your parents when you go on business trips.”

“But Rosie…”

“Why don’t you just start with talking to Ella first hmm?” Chaeyoung spoke softly, wrapping her arms around Jennie to comfort her.

~ ~ ~ ~

“Mommy can we stay at Auntie Rosie’s tonight?” Ella asked, after Jennie secured her in her booster seat.

“I’m sorry sweetie, but your Auntie Rosie will be at the hospital late, so she won’t be home.”

“That’s okay, can we stay there still?”

“Why?”

“Because it’s home.”

“Huh? Our home is with your grandparents.”

“No mommy, it’s different… when we’re with Auntie Rosie, it’s like I have two mommies..like the other kids.”

“Oh.”

“Mhm, so can we??? Please mommy please.”

“Alright sweetie.”

~ ~

“Mommy are you okay?” Ella asked. The girl had just finished her bath and Jennie was now getting her ready for bed.

“Of course sweetie. Why?”

“You just...look sad. Do you miss Auntie Rosie?”

“I always miss your Auntie Rosie, but don’t tell her I told you that okay?”

“Got it.” Ella made a zipping motion across her lips.

“Ella...remember when you told me you wanted to see a photo of you dad?” The little girl nodded her head yes.

“Instead of a photo, would you like to meet him?”

“Meet...my dad?”

“Yeah, your dad.”

“Does dad want to meet me?” Ella asked in a small voice.

“Of course he does sweetie, he was the one who personally asked me if he could meet you.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t he want to before?”

“You see sweetie...I...with your dad...he..didn’t know about you until recently. Mommy kept it a secret from him...because I thought he would try to take you away. I’m sorry...I should have had you met him earlier.”

“It’s okay mommy...at least I can still meet him right?”

“Right. Do you want to go this weekend? To the amusement park?”

“Really?”

“Mhm.”

“Okay. Will Auntie Rosie come too?”

“I’ll ask her.”

~ ~ ~

“Rosie~ What are you doing this Saturday?” Jennie asked, cornering Chaeyoung at the nurse’s station in the emergency department where she knows Chaeyoung will be. The kind hearted doctor agreed to take Dr. Lim’s shift because the man’s wife just gave birth to a newborn.

“Oh uhm, I don’t have anything planned.”

“Then can you go with us to meet Jongin?”

“Do you want me too...it feels a litt..”

“I want you too and Ella asked for you as well.” Jennie interrupted.

“Then I’ll come.”

“Perfect, let’s all go together. I’ll see you then Rosie.” Jennie beamed, kissing Chaeyoung’s cheeks before running off.

“To think that’s THE Jennie Kim.” Wendy commented after Jennie was out of earshot.

“What do you mean Wan?”

“She’s like this badass CEO, but with you she’s a total baby. Her duality is.” Wendy gave two thumbs up. Chaeyoung chuckled, agreeing with the girl.

~ ~ ~

“Where is he?” Chaeyoung asked, looking around, the park was empty. Jennie rented it out so that they could have total privacy.

“He said he’s in the cafe near the entrance.”

“Oh there he is.” Chaeyoung motioned towards a man sitting inside the cafe by himself.

“Sweetie you ready to meet your dad?”

“Mhm.” Ella nodded her head.

“Okay, let’s go.” Jennie took Ella’s hand beginning to lead the girl, when she stopped and turned to Chaeyoung and grabbed her hand too. Chaeyoung’s heart melted at this, and she lightly squeezed Ella’s hand reassuring the little girl.

“Jongin.” Jennie spoke up and the man looked towards the three standing in front of him. Jennie and Chaeyoung nodded and Jongin got up and went towards his daughter, bending at the knee to somewhat match her height, “Hi.”

“Hello, my name is Ella Kim.” Ella introduced herself respectfully, her voice soft.

“Hello Ella, my name is Kim Jongin. I’m your dad.” Jongin smiled, his eyes beginning to well with tears.

Ella nodded, before slightly retreating back. Ella was actually quite hesitant to meet her dad. To Ella, her dad was the man that made her mommy lose her smile and she was a little mad at him for that. She didn’t know the reason of course, but Ella loves her mom the most in the world and she doesn’t like people that make her mommy sad.

“Sweetie since we’re here. What do you want to do first? Since we had a late breakfast we can have lunch a little later, unless you're already hungry.” Jennie crouched down, trying to make her daughter more comfortable.

“I’m not hungry mommy.”

“Okay.” Jennie nodded, trying to think of a way to make the atmosphere more comfortable for Ella. She thought the little girl would be fine, but now that they’re here, Jennie can tell how hesitant Ella actually is.

“Hey Ells, come with me real quick.”

“Rosie.”

“Don’t worry, you guys stay here. We’ll be back.” Chaeyoung smiled at Jennie and Jongin, “C’mon.” Chaeyoung held her hand out and Ella gladly took it.

“She’s really close to Chaeyoung huh.” Jongin commented, as he watched the two go off.

“Yeah she is.” Jennie paused, “Ella is shy around strangers, so just give her some time. I chose this place because she loves going here. Just keep trying and she’ll warm up to you.”

Meanwhile, Chaeyoung took Ella to her favorite ride, the carousel.

“Can we ride it now Auntie Rosie?” Ella asked.

“In a bit, for now I want to ask you something.” Chaeyoung led Ella to the bench right in front of the ride.

“Tell me, did you really want to meet your dad?”

“I do…”

“But?”

“But he made mommy sad. I heard grandma and grandpa talking about it once.”

“Ella...there are things you don’t know about. But there was a time when your dad made your mom the happiest. He took care of your mom and he loved her very much.”

“He did?” Ella asked.

“Yeah. Here, look.” Chaeyoung handed Ella her phone, it was a photo of Jennie and Jongin from their university days, right when they first got together. Jennie had a gummy smile on her face while Jongin’s arms were wrapped around her from behind, “Your mom always smiled like that around him.”

“If he made mommy happy...then how did he make her sad?”

“Things happened, things that you can’t understand right now..” Chaeyoung paused, “But I don’t want you to think badly of him like that right away. Remember how I told you to never judge people right away without knowing the whole truth?”

“Mhm.”

“Well you can’t judge him right away if you don’t know him right? Just give him a chance. Your dad really really wants to know you and spend time with you.”

“Okay Auntie Rosie.”

“Good girl. Now why don’t we get some headbands for everyone?” Chaeyoung playfully ruffled the girl’s head, who nodded at the suggestion.

“Auntie Rosie.” Ella tugged on Chaeyoung’s hand as Ella was now trying to pick one for her dad.

“Yes?”

“You know...you make mommy smile like that too.” Ella commented, looking up at Chaeyoung briefly before focusing on the headbands on display.

“Hmm?”

“In that photo...mommy’s smile..it’s the same. She always smiles like that whenever she’s with you, or when I catch her looking at you secretly at home.” Ella replied, still focused on the headbands.

“Oh! This is perfect!” Ella squealed, picking out the one with a tiger print, stopping Chaeyoung from responding to what the little girl had just blurted out.

~

“Mommy! Look, we bought headbands!” Ella motioned to hers and Chaeyoung’s, “Oh and we bought one for you and for…” Ella paused looking at the man sitting with her mom, “Dad.”

“Ella why don’t you put it on them.” Chaeyoung suggested with a nod.

Ella put her mom’s on easily and when she got to her dad, he bent down and she carefully placed the headband on his head, “Thank you Ella.” Jongin smiled.

“Why don’t we go ride the teacups?”

“Okay!” Ella beamed, starting to be a little more comfortable.

“Okay...what’d you do?” Jennie asked. The two were currently watching Ella and Jongin play some games together. They had just finished lunch and Ella definitely warmed up to her dad.

“What do you mean?”

“Just what kind of Rosie charm did you pull on my daughter for her to switch 180 like that with him.”

“I didn’t do anything. It’s all her.”

“Rosie.”

“Hey, just be glad she’s finally having fun and laughing, instead of looking like she was ready to run away.”

“Yeah.” Jennie smiled seeing how Jongin would always let Ella win against him. “Thank you.”

“For?” Chaeyoung asked.

“For whatever you did to make her open up to him.”

“Mommy!” Ella called to her mom, before Chaeyoung could respond, “Come here play with us.”

“Alright..” Jennie could never say no to her daughter.

“Aren’t you coming?” Jennie asked after walking a few steps and realizing Chaeyoung wasn’t next to her.

“I’ll join you guys in a bit.”

“Okay.”

The skies were blue and clear. The temperature was neither too hot nor too cold. It was a perfect day. And as Chaeyoung sat on the bench, watching how happy Ella looked, how Jennie seemed to smile brighter because of how happy her daughter is, and how Jongin looked at the two with such a soft and fond gaze. It made Chaeyoung wonder how much time she has with Jennie and Ella until she’ll be back in this situation again -- watching her two favorite girls with another person who makes them complete.

Chaeyoung knows Jennie won’t go back to Jongin, but watching the scene of a happy “family” in front of her...she can’t help but think of the day when she’ll have to let them be happy with someone that won’t be her. Chaeyoung’s heart broke a little at the thought.

~

The sky darkened and the firework show just ended. Ella looked exhausted, but she tried to hide it, she didn’t want this day to end.

“Did you have fun today Ella?” Jongin asked, bending down to match Ella’s height.

“I did! It was fun with mommy, Auntie Rosie, and you too dad.”

“That’s great...do you think you’d want to hang out with dad again?” Jongin asked.

“If mommy let’s me.” Ella agreed and Jongin had to stop himself from fist pumping in happiness.

“I….is it okay if I give you a hug?” Jongin asked. Wordlessly, Ella went forward and wrapped her arms around Jongin’s neck, he immediately returned the hug, “Thank you.” He whispered, kissing her head lightly.

~ ~ ~ ~

“So Ella’s gotten very close to Jongin.” Jisoo spoke up, looking at Jennie whose mind seemed to be elsewhere.

“Jendeukie?” Jisoo called out to the girl.

The two were having lunch together, but since arriving, Jisoo could tell something was bothering Jennie.

“Jendeuk.”

“Yah, Jennie Kim!” Jisoo reached forward and shook Jennie by her shoulders.

“What were you saying Chu?” Jennie blinked a few times.

“Jeez I’ve been talking here non-stop, thinking you were listening, but I was just talking to myself.”

“I’m sorry..what were you saying?”

“I was saying how Ella’s gotten closer to Jongin.”

“Yeah, they’ve been hanging out every Saturday since then. She’s more comfortable with him.”

“That’s great. Glad he’s not a total like what we thought.”

“Mhm.”

“Now, tell me what’s really going on.”

“There’s nothing Chu.”

“Is it about Pasta or?”

“It’s not Rosie and I are fine.”

“But still don't have a label.” Jisoo added.

“Yes, but I’m working on it. I’m trying to find the perfect timing.”

“Okay, so if it’s not Pasta then??”

“Do you think I should get back with Jongin for Ella’s sake?”

“WHAT?”

“She was so happy when we were at the amusement park, and when I’d join them for dinner before taking Ella home during their hangouts. My daughter deserves to have a complete family.”

“Yeah, but that doesn’t have to be with him. Why not Pasta? You and Ella both love her.”

“But…”

“No Jennie. I won’t support this. Has Ella said she wants you and him together?”

“No..but..”

“Stop with the buts. Why don’t you ask your daughter. Goodness, I can’t believe you even entertained that thought. Are you hellbent on breaking Pasta’s heart or what?”

“No of course not, I’d never want to hurt Rosie.”

“Well then stop putting what you feel for her in the backseat and make it a priority. Go talk to Ella, ask her, tell her what you feel for Rosie. Goodness you two...why is it so hard for you guys to just be together?”

“I’ll do that tonight.”

“Okay good.”

~ ~

“Hey sweetie can I ask you something?” Jennie asked while the two were cuddled on Ella’s bed, waiting for Chaeyoung to get home so they can have dinner together.

“What is it mommy?”

“Do you want to have a complete family?” Jennie asked.

“Huh?”

“I mean, do you want to have two parents like the other kids?”

“Mhm. I do.” Ella answered honestly.

“Do you want me to get back together with your dad?”

“What?”

“If I did then you’d have a complete family.”

“But mommy, you don’t love dad even more than Auntie Chu, Auntie Lisa, Auntie Seul, Auntie Yeri, Auntie Joy, grandma, grandpa, and for sure not more than you love Auntie Rosie. Remember you told me that’s what needs to happen for you to marry them.”

“Yes I did, but..”

“And mommy, I know I’m only 7. But I’m a big girl now and I know.”

“Know what?”

“Know that Auntie Rosie is going to be the only person that makes you smile like this.” Ella pulled a photo out from her pillowcase and handed it to her mom.

“Where did you get this photo?” Jennie asked, looking at the photo of her and Chaeyoung taken from their teenage years. Their cheeks were squished together, and the two girls had the biggest smiles on their faces.

“I found it in one of grandma’s photo boxes. But mommy you only ever have that smile and look when you're with Auntie Rosie.”

Jennie was surprised with her daughter’s words.

She really is growing up. I can’t believe my little girl knows more about my feelings for Rosie than I do myself. Jennie patted Ella’s head and asked, “Would it be okay if I tried to make Auntie Rosie into your mommy?”

With no hesitation, Ella hugged her mom, squeezing her tight while saying, “I can’t wait to call her Mommy Rosie.”

“Oh am I interrupting a moment?” The woman in question suddenly popped her head inside Ella’s room.

“Auntie Rosie!” Ella got up and raced towards Chaeyoung who lifted the girl up into her arms.

“Ooh you’re getting bigger now bug, pretty soon I won’t be able to lift you up like this.” Chaeyong laughed, while Ella just snuggled into Chaeyoung’s arms.

“Hi.” Chaeyoung turned her attention to Jennie.

“Hey there, let’s eat?” Jennie got up, looping her arm around Chaeyoung’s elbow.

“Yep, I brought Chinese.” Chaeyoung nodded, planting a soft kiss on the top of Jennie’s head.

Now that Jennie has finally cleared everything up with Ella, her mind and heart are both at ease.

I won’t ever let this woman go. Jennie thought to herself as she watched Chaeyoung from across the table, helping Ella refill her plate with rice.

~ ~ ~ ~

“Rosie’s avoiding me.” Jennie pouted.

“Well hello Jen.” Lisa greeted the brunette, who ignored the girl and went off to look for her cousin.

“Chu...I said Rosie’s avoiding me.”

“We heard you Jendeuk.” Jisoo shook her head, while she grabbed another plate for her cousin, “Now come over here and eat dinner with us, stop sulking for a minute.”

“Fine.” Jennie huffed, plopping down in the chair between Jisoo and Lisa.

“So tell me why do you think Pasta is avoiding you?”

“Well 1. We haven’t had our usual meals together 2. Ella and I haven’t seen her at home. 3. She’s barely responding to my texts. 4. She hasn’t been calling.”

“At home huh, so you guys finally officially moved in with Pasta.” Jisoo teased.

“Why is that all you focus on?”

“Well I mean if it’s official don’t you think it’s time to invite us and the girls to have an official house warming then?”

“Fine fine, I’ll text the others.” Jennie agreed, “So can we go back to why my Rosie is avoiding me.”

“Well the hospital is busy right now, Jen. We’ve all been working more to help cover shifts.” Lisa spoke up.

“Still.”

“See this is why I told you to just claim her already.”

“You don’t think I tried? Everytime I try to plan something out, something happens and we have to reschedule. And now it’s been forever since we’ve seen each other.”

“Well you can try tonight.” Lisa spoke up, while staring at her phone.

“Why?”

“I just got paged, Wendy said Chae left cause she wasn’t feeling well.”

“WHAT? Okay I gotta go.” Jennie got up racing to the door, texting Jongin to drop Ella off at her Mother’s place because she needed to care for Chaeyoung who was sick.

On her way home, Jennie stopped by the market to get ingredients for Kimchi soup. It’s their thing to make this for each other whenever one gets sick.

Stepping inside Chaeyoung’s condo, Jennie frowned when she saw an unfamiliar pair of shoes in the entryway.

“...Rosie?” Jennie called out, heading straight to Chaeyoung’s room.

“Ro..” Jennie’s voice caught in , when she saw Chaeyoung in bed being taken care of by none other than Bae Suzy.

“I told you to take it easy.” Suzy nagged, wiping the sweat from Chaeyoung’s forehead.

“I know.” Chaeyoung’s voice was hoarse, eyes closed.

“You told me you won’t overdo it when you left, but what’s this?” Suzy kept nagging, getting up from the edge of Chaeyoung’s bed to check on the IV drip.

“The drip is fine, stop fussing with it.” Chaeyoung spoke up, still with her eyes shut, “I know, because it’s a habit you developed.”

“I was terrified y’know...for a moment we thought we lost you.”

At this, Chaeyoung finally opened her eyes, looking up at Suzy who’s eyes were still on the drip, “Hey, stop thinking about that..It was a long time ago.”

“Not that long...have you been in contact with Dr. Henderson?”

“Hmm everything is fine, don’t worry okay?”

“What about your check-ups?”

“I’ve been going, you can even check with your dad.”

“You’re never going to let that go huh.”

“Nope never, especially since you practically lived off of me back in Melbs.” Chaeyoung chuckled, but then began to violently cough. Suzy immediately went by the girl’s side, helped her up and patted her back. Once the coughing subsided, she handed Chaeyoung a glass of water, “Here drink some water.”

“You better take the next few days off. I’ll call Dr. Henderson and update him about this.”

“It’s just a cold. Don’t fuss over it too much.”

“You know how fragile your health still is Chae..a simple cold can do a lot of damage.”

“Hey.” Chaeyoung’s voice was stern, “Look at me. I’m fine okay.” She reassured Suzy.

“You always say that, even if it’s not true. Just lay there, I’ll be back with some food so that you can take your meds.” Suzy sighed, getting up and heading towards the door.

Jennie Kim was never a coward, she was taught to face everything with her head held high, but as she stood there listening to Chaeyoung and Suzy’s conversation, she couldn’t stop herself from running as soon as she saw Suzy heading towards the door. So now, she’s in her room trying to stay quiet and hoping that Suzy leaves soon, but deep down Jennie knew there would be no way Suzy would leave Chaeyoung alone.

“And here I thought I’d finally get a chance to take care of you.” Jennie whispered to herself, staring at the bags of groceries on the floor of her bedroom.

“I really don’t know anything about you anymore do I?” Jennie bitterly admitted, pulling her knees to her chest, that overwhelming loneliness coming back.

Jennie’s phone lit up with a text message from Jisoo.

But Chu… -Jendeukie

The Jennie Kim I know was never a coward. - Chichu

Jennie stood up, Jisoo’s words hitting all the right spots, “Chu’s right, what am I doing hiding here like some fugitive. I’m not a coward. I’m a Kim, and we never run.” Jennie had a new found determination and with that, she went out to find Suzy.

“Jennie?! Were you here the entire time? Jeez you sca…”

“You can leave now, I can take care of my Rosie.” Jennie interrupted Suzy.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me. This is our home.”

“This isn’t your home, it’s Chae’s. And you don’t even know anything, I’m the best person that can take care of her. You may have known her longer, but you weren’t there when she was….” Suzy trailed off, “Nevermind. Just go home Jennie, don’t you have a kid waiting for you?”

“Don’t make me ask twice Bae.” Jennie’s voice was low and threatening.

“Is that a threat?” Suzy took a step forward.

“You wanna try me?” Jennie raised a brow.

“What’s going on here? Jen?” Chaeyoung suddenly appeared, wheeling her IV drip with her.

“Rosie.”

“Chae.”

“Why aren’t you resting?” Jennie and Suzy spoke at the same time.

“I heard you guys.” Chaeyoung admitted, “Suzy left my door open.”

“It’s fine Chae, let’s get you back..”

“I’m fine Suzy.”

“Chaeyoung.”

“It’s okay..Thank you, for taking care of me, but there’s things that Jen and I need to talk about.” Chaeyoung’s voice was stern, and Suzy knew she had to relent.

“Alright fine, but I’m sending someone to get some blood from you tomorrow.”

“Okay, now let me walk you to the door.”

“No, it’s fine. I know the way out. There’s porridge in the pot, eat it before it gets cold, then drink your meds.”

“Yes doc.”

“Goodnight Chae, get better soon.” Suzy walked towards Chaeyoung, kissing the girl’s cheek before leaving. After the two heard the door click, did Chaeyoung finally look Jennie in the eyes.

“I..”

“Let’s talk after you get better, now c’mon back to bed.” Jennie interrupted, stepping forward and leading the blonde back to her room.

“Do you want me to go get you that porridge?”

“Can you make me Kimchi soup instead?” Chaeyoung requested.

“It’ll take a while and you stil..”

“I can wait.” Chaeyoung interrupted.

“Okay.” Jennie finally smiled, “Just rest here okay?”

“Hmm.” Chaeyoung nodded.

“Rosie?” Jennie walked inside Chaeyoung’s room where the girl is fast asleep, Jennie sat at the edge of the girl’s bed, placing the tray with food and medicine on the side table, “Just what is it that you're hiding from me?”

The brunette stayed like that, watching as Chaeyoung slept peacefully before finally waking the girl up to eat, “Rosie you need to wake up. Hey.”

Chaeyoung is usually a light sleeper, waking up with the lightest jostle, even when sick.

“Rosie.” Jennie shook Chaeyoung a little, but the blonde still didn’t wake.

“Okay Rosie, this isn’t funny anymore.” Jennie shook a bit harder.

“Park Chaeyoung if you don’t wake up right now I swear I’ll..”

“I’m awake.” Chaeyoung smiled, peeking out of one eye.

“Park Chaeyoung you!” Jennie trembled with anger and worry, clenching her fists tightly, “You scared me you know.” Jennie looked up, trying to keep her tears from falling.

“I’m sorry that was a mean prank.” Chaeyoung sat up, feeling guilty for making Jennie worry like that. In the blonde’s defense she only wanted to ease the heavy atmosphere around them, “Come here sit with me.” Chaeyoung scooted over and tapped the empty spot on the bed, but Jennie stayed still.

“Jennie..hey.” But Jennie still wouldn’t budge.

“I’m really sorry okay?” Chaeyoung wrapped her arms from behind Jennie, resting her chin on her shoulder.

“Don’t do that again.” Jennie finally melted and went under the covers with Chaeyoung.

“Promise.”

“Okay, c’mon let’s get you fed and drugged up.” Jennie laughed at her own joke.

~ ~

The following day, Chaeyoung’s fever subsided and the girl looked much better.

“I’ll get this to the lab, thank you Dr. Park.” The nurse, Doyeon, smiled.

“Thanks Doyeon, I’m sorry you had to come all the way here for this.”

“Ayyy of course not, Dr. Bae specifically asked me for this favor, Dr. Park.” Doyeon wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, Jennie frowned at this.

“Rosie.”

“Uhm I’ll get going now, Dr. Park..Ms. Kim.” Doyeon bowed politely before running off.

After Doyeon left, the two shared a quiet meal before Jennie ushered the blonde back into bed.

“I’m already fine, you don’t have to fuss over me.” Chaeyoung tried to stop Jennie from fluffing her pillow anymore than she already has.

“I’m not even fussing over you that much.”

“Mhm sure.” Chaeyoung chuckled, before turning serious, “Come here, I think there’s things we need to talk about.” She patted the spot next to her.

“You’re still sick Rosie.” Jennie replied, sitting next to Chaeyoung anyways.

“I know you heard everything last night.”

“Heard what?” Jennie asked, feigning ignorance. Looking away from Chaeyoung’s eyes.

“Nothing, nevermind.” Chaeyoung shook her head, if Jennie was going to pretend like she didn’t hear anything, then Chaeyoung won’t push her, “How’s Ella doing?” Chaeyoung changed the subject.

“Ella’s with my parents today. Jongin has an appointment and won’t be able to take her out until the weekend.”

“I see.” Chaeyoung nodded, letting a silence drape over them.

In all the years the two have known each other, this may be the most suffocating silence between them. The light hum of the humidifier keeps it from being a deafening silence.

“I did.” Jennie finally spoke up after minutes of just sitting there, “I heard it all.”

Chaeyoung nodded, watching as Jennie fiddled with her fingers anxiously, speaking softly as she said, “I have so many questions but I don’t know if I want to know the answer.”

“I was in an accident in Australia….a drunk driver struck me while I was walking.” Chaeyoung began, “Looking bad it was kinda bad. Broken bones, punctured lung..yeah..I’ll spare you the details. But Suzy was the one that had to treat me in the ER...so she gets a bit dramatic when it comes to my health. Dr. Henderson is our former boss, he was the one that did all of the surgeries on me. He’s my mentor and often checks up on my health and yeah...they tend to be a little bit much...so don’t think too much about that. I promise you I am in tip-top shape.” Chaeyoung smiled, lightly hitting her chest for emphasis.

After listening to Chaeyoung, Jennie stayed mum. Trying to wrap her mind around the fact that in the past, without her knowledge, she could have lost Chaeyoung forever. How there was a chance that she would never get to see Chaeyoung, hear her voice ...her laugh, hold her..a world without Rosie by her side...Jennie had to live through it once before and it was hell...what more if that accident took her Rosie away forever.

What if something or someone took Rosie away. This thought quickly multiplied in Jennie’s mind, “You are mine Park Chaeyoung.” The words came out without Jennie even realizing, “And I don’t share.”

“I….huh?” Chaeyoung was surprised, her eyes widening. Honestly, the blonde thought Jennie would chew her out or something, but having Jennie claim her well..it made her feel things.

“I hate how we’re in this grey area. I hate how you’ve been distancing yourself from me since Jongin came back, I hate how Suzy can take you away from me anytime. I just...I hate it all because why is it that we’re still like this even though we both already know how we feel about each other? It’s like all we ever do is go around in circles...and I just..I know that you’ll catch me..you already have...and I want you to know that I’ll catch you...that after all these years, all I’ve ever wanted was for us to be together...Is that so hard to ask for? Can’t I have you?” Jennie looked at Chaeyoung with those feline eyes of hers...and like always, the blonde was weak.

“You’re so adorable you know that.” Chaeyoung chuckled lightly, pulling Jennie into her arms, “You’ve always had me Jen...I’ve always been yours. I’m sorry that I distanced myself….I guess I just saw how happy Ella was with you and her dad..that I dunno...it made me rethink about taking the next step…”

“I love how you care about Ella’s happiness, but Rosie...trust me when I say Ella is definitely on your side. She adores you almost as much as I do.”

“I adore her very much as well.”

“Not as much as me right?” Jennie lifted her head from Chaeyoung’s chest, looking at the girl with a small playful pout.

“Hmmm maybe a bit more than you.” Chaeyoung teased.

Rolling her eyes playfully and scrunching her nose cutely, “Dork.” Jennie giggled, snuggling back into Chaeyoung’s arms, “Rosie…”Jennie began to talk again, her voice soft but serious, “you're mine now right? Like officially.”

“Yes Jennie Kim. I am yours."

“Good. Glad that’s settled then. Now….why don’t we talk about Suzy bringing you home instead of calling me?”

“I...we literally just got together and I’m already in the dog house?

A/n: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIE!

Sorry this was late, I got busy….but hey the ending is here….

I’m not really satisfied with it...so there maybe one last little “epilogue.” Because there are some things that need to be addressed. If it happens there’ll probs be a huge time skip because if I get into the details I might as well make this into a separate story...so yeah…if I do get that epilogue going it’ll be a short probs 5 page max.

Anyways….some of you saw a draft I posted on accident...and that will be the start of the next multishot... So...pretend to be reading it for the first time again lol.

Until next time...bye~~
