Last Life pt. 2

Chaennie Shots (Volume 1)

“So how are things with Krys?” Jennie asked, settling comfortably on the couch in Chaeyoung’s office. Waiting for the blonde, so they can have lunch together.

“What are you talking about?” Chaeyoung asked, brows furrowed.

“I mean you two have just been spending all this extra time together and stuff.” Jennie shrugged a shoulder, trying to seem as uncaring and nonchalant about it.

“I mean she’s very professional and the project is moving along well.” Chaeyoung explained, somewhat clueless about the sudden curiosity from Jennie.

“Good. Yep that’s good. Anyways, I was” Jennie paused, seeing how Chaeyoung practically lit up when her phone rang, “Go ahead, answer it.” Jennie forced a smile.

“Hey Krys. Hmm. In the office, with Jen. Not yet, have you? You can join us if you want. No no, it’s no bother. We’ll be there in about 15. Just gotta finish some things. Okay yep yep. See you soon. Bye.”

“Sorry it was Krys.” Chaeyoung looked at Jennie apologetically, “She was asking if I had lunch yet. You don’t mind her coming with us right?”

“No it’s fine.” Jennie forced a smile. Really wondering how her cousin, who was pushing her to confess to Chaeyoung, is now trying to take her place in Chaeyoung’s life. Not that the two are together in that sense...but still...Jennie didn’t like it.

“What do you think about the expansion plan then?”

“Well it’s definitely a good move, but it’s too much. Better to start small, rather than all at once.”

It’s been an hour now, the three were at a restaurant near Chaeyoung’s office. And Jennie is feeling a little left out. The two so engrossed in their conversation, practically forgetting about Jennie.

“True, down the road it would be too much to handle and would have an adverse effect ra…”

“Okay, the food is coming, can we please not talk about work.” Jennie interrupted.

“Right...sorry Jen.” The two apologized, catching each other’s eyes and smiling widely at each other. This seemed to finally push Jennie to get up from her chair.

“Is something wrong?” Chaeyoung asked.

“I have to go, Chu needs me to bring her some things. It’s important.” Jennie spoke quickly, trying to hold herself together.

“Oh, do you want me to..”

“No stay..enjoy your meal.” Jennie shook her head, running out of the restaurant, not even bothering to look back.

“What are you doing Park Chaeyoung?” Those were the first words Lisa asked her the second Chaeyoung entered her home.

“Hello to you too Lis. How am I? Good, thanks for asking.” Chaeyoung replied sarcastically.

“Chaeyoung.” Lisa’s voice was stern.

“What did I do Lisa?” Chaeyoung asked.

“Lying to yourself.” Lisa answered bluntly.

“What do you mean?” Chaeyoung asked, taking a seat next to the girl on the patio.

“Well I thought you would go after Jennie, but yet you’ve been getting really close to Krystal.”

“I’m not.” Chaeyoung defended herself.

“Chae...look even I was having trouble when I’m around her. The memories, everything...but the past is the past...Chaeyoung please...stop lying to yourself, stop forcing your heart to..”

“I CAN’T BE WITH JEN! NEVER!” Chaeyoung burst out, her tears pooling in her eyes, “I….I love her Lis..I do..but..I can’t do that to Soojung..”

“Soojung, Soojung, Soojung! Everything about you has always revolved around her! It’s always about her, but when will it be about you? Why can’t you just take the chance with Jennie?!”

“Jennie’s father….it’s him.” Chaeyoung spoke, her voice having a different venom in it.

“What?”

“Just like how Krystal looks like Soojung...her father...he looks just like him. We met coincidentally while Jennie and I were out together.”

“Chae..”

“So now tell me...how can I possibly be with her, when I vowed to make him pay for what he did to her and to us?” Chaeyoung cried, she had been trying to erase Jennie from her mind and her heart, but it’s so hard.

“But Jennie is Jennie. She’s not her father...and her father isn’t the King. I know you’ve been taking revenge, and I didn’t stop you because I was mad at him too….but I’ve learned to let that all go. It’s not like I can go back to that time. I learned to move forward. Maybe it’s time you do the same. Try to find your closure Chae...or else you’ll be living in sadness forever.” Lisa sighed, getting up, patting Chaeyoung’s shoulder lightly before heading out.

~ ~ ~ ~

“Chaeyoung? What are you doing here? It’s nearly midnight.”

“Sorry Krys...I just..can I take you somewhere? I just….there’s something I need to do..and if I don’t I might not move on from it.”

“What?”

“Please.”

“Let me get my coat.”

~

“Wow, this place...it’s amazing. How come no one told me this place existed?” Krystal asked, taking a seat on the lone bench in the cherry blossom forest.

“Because it’s privately owned by me.” Chaeyoung replied, taking a seat next to Krystal and grabbing onto her hand.

“Chaeyoung..you know that…” Krystal tried to pull her hand back, but Chaeyoung held on tighter.

“You’ve read all of Jen’s novels right?” Chaeyoung asked, leaning her head on Krystal’s shoulder, making the latter stiffen.

“Of course.”

“So then I don’t need to tell you everything.”

“What?”

Lifetimes...it’s true. Everything written in that novel is non-fiction. It’s my biography if you will.” Chaeyoung spoke calmly, pulling a few things out from the backpack she brought with her.

“You can’t be…” but Krystal’s words died out when Chaeyoung placed an open scroll on her lap.

“That’s me and Eun San.”

Another scroll

“Me and Lijuan in China.”

Now a small painting

“In Australia with James.”

A photograph

“Elouise in France.”

Chaeyoung paused...her hand reaching for her wallet.

“This is Ruby Jane..and me..” Chaeyoung glanced at the photo, her thumb running over the photo carefully.

“Chae?” Krystal furrowed her brows, a bit...the expression Chaeyoung made just now is different from the others.

“And now..” Chaeyoung handed Krystal a rolled up scroll.

Unrolling the parchment, Krystal’s jaw dropped.

“That’s Soojung.”

“She...we…”

“Yeah she looks just like you.”

“Is that why..when we first met you kept looking at me?”

“Yes..”

“Lisa..too?” Krystal’s question had a double meaning and Chaeyoung understood that.

“Yes..”

“So..am I?” Krystal asked and Chaeyoung smiled softly and nodded.

“But that doesn’t change anything. You are your own person. Not many know of their past life. Just keep going as you are.” Chaeyoung smiled.

“That’s a little hard knowing that there’s practically a best selling novel out there that tells me everything.” Krystal chuckled, reeling from the sudden information.

“So you believe me?”

“I mean, kind of...it’s just crazy that you’ve been alive for hundreds of years...wait how old are you really?”

“Well when I ‘died’ I was 24….if we just add to that I’ll be 630ish years old.”

“.”

“Yeah...but Krystal if you tell…”

“I know, don’t worry your secret will be safe with me...now tell me, why did you really tell me all this?”

“In the novel, the princess was laid to rest under her favorite spot..”

“Wait is that.” Krystal pointed at the ground beneath them.

“Technically it’s in front of us, underneath that tree. I placed the bench here, because this was when I used to watch her for a bit, before showing myself.”

“Oh whew, so we’re just at your stalker spot.” Krystal laughed lightly.

“If you say it like that it loses its romantic aspect.” Chaeyoung grumbled.

“Hmm now..what is it really?”

“Right..so Lisa told me that I need to move on...have my closure..I’ve spent hundreds of years running after Soojung...and somehow I’ve made my existence wrap around her...but then I met Jennie and it made me question things...and...I’ve tried to deny it for way too long, but even if it’s short...I want to show Jennie all my love. I love her..so much. In our first life together, I promised Soojung I would always find her….” Chaeyoung paused, finding it harder to say the words out loud.

“Just break up with me...or rather my soul.” Krystal spoke up with a slight smile, but Chaeyoung still had a hard time holding Krystal’s gaze.

I hope Jennie doesn’t kill me for this. Krystal prayed in her mind before lifting her hands up, taking Chaeyoung’s face and leaning it against her forehead, “It’s okay Chaeyoung..You already found me many times...you kept your promise and more. You don’t have to keep loving me. You can let me go now.” She whispered, leaning up a bit, to leave a lingering kiss on the blonde’s forehead.

“I’m sorry.” Chaeyoung broke down, hugging the girl tightly.

That evening after dropping Krystal back home, the girl immediately raced to Jennie’s. Not caring that it was almost 2am.

“Chae? What are you doing here?” Jennie asked, voice groggy still half-asleep.

“I...I just needed to see you.” Chase spoke, feeling lighter ever since she finally let her go.

“At this ungodly hour?” Jennie grumbled, moving to the side to let the blonde in.

“I...I guess I jumped the gun a bit. Sorry.. Come on let’s get you back in bed. I can let myself out.” Chaeyoung sheepishly replied, feeling guilty.

“Hmm.” Jennie relented, to sleepy to argue.

“Alright there we go. Nice and Cozy.” Chaeyoung smiled, after tucking the shorter girl in bed, “Sleep well.” Chaeyoung whispered, placing a lingering kiss on Jennie’s forehead.

~

“Chae?” That was the first thing to come out of Jennie’s mouth as soon as she woke up. The girl vaguely remembers having the blonde here, but isn’t sure if it was all a dream or not.

Jennie tried calling Chaeyoung, but the girl wasn’t answering.

“Was it all a dream.” Jennie sighed, “But I could have sworn…” her musings were interrupted when she saw a note on her counter.

“I'll come back soon. I promise.” Jennie read the note, frowning the girl called Lisa right away.

“Good morning Jen, what’s up?”

“Lis where’s Chae?”

“Uh…”

“Lisa.”

“She’ll be back Jen, trust her.” Lisa spoke up.

“Wha? I. Lisa? Hello?” Jennie groaned, throwing her phone on the couch.

~ ~ ~

“I can’t believe you disappeared for 3 weeks. I swear I thought Jen was going to murder me.” Lisa groaned.

“I just...had some things to take care of.”

Taking a quick glance at her friend, Lisa quickly figured out what it was.

“I can still visit them right?”

“Lis...I’ll never stop you.”

“Right.” Lisa paused, taking another side glance at Chaeyoung before speaking up, “So, are you going to tell her?”

“Yes.”

“You?”

“I..already did.” Lisa admitted.

“WHAT? WHEN?”

“Well…”

“Chu...Chae left..”

“What?” Jisoo slammed the brakes on her car, thankfully no one was behind her.

“Yeah...but Lisa knows where she is...I don’t know if she’ll go after Chae.. she left a note for me..she says she’ll come back.”

“I just...I.”

“...are you okay?”

“Yeah...I mean it’s not like this is the first right? I have to go.” Jennie hung up, not even waiting for the other girl to say anything.

Meanwhile, Jisoo switched direction from the publishing company to a certain penthouse.

Taking a deep breath in front of the door, Jisoo entered the passkey and once inside she felt her stomach drop. The place was dark, like no one was there. The cat was gone too.

“Did she really.” Jisoo, walked to Lisa’s bedroom, nothing. Her bed was perfectly made.

Reaching for her phone, Jisoo tried to call the taller girl….but noticed the girl’s phone on the bed side table..

“Not again..” Jisoo sat on the edge of the bed. Wondering why the two disappeared again.

“Chu?” Lisa entered, with Leo in her arms.

“Lisa.” Jisoo practically leapt into the girl’s arms.

“Oh Hi?” Lisa caught Jisoo, just as Leo jumped out from her arms.

“Hey..are you crying?” Lisa patted the girl’s back.

“I..Chae left...and I..” Jisoo didn’t know why she got so emotional, so scared.

“I’m here..” Lisa hugged the girl even tighter, “I’ll always be here.”

It didn’t take long for Jisoo to calm down, but the smile on Lisa’s face was starting to annoy her.

“Stop with that smile.”

“What? I’m just happy...you were that scared huh.” Lisa teased.

“Whatever, I have to get to the office.”

“Wait!” Lisa held her wrist, “Stay.”

“Why?”

“I..I need to tell you something, about me...and if you still want to be by my side after then I promise you, I’ll make you happy for as long as I can.”

“Are you dying?” Jisoo deadpanned.

“What?” Lisa laughed loudly, “No no, trust me when I say I won’t be leaving this world anytime soon.”

So, Lisa told Jisoo everything...from the start..

“I know it’s a lot...but it’s the..”

“I believe you.”

“You do?”

“It makes sense..sometimes when I catch you staring off into space in the office...you have this look..it’s hard to explain..but it’s always there.”

“Ah….and here I was ready to stab myself in the heart to prove it to you.”

“Yeah don’t do that, I might pass out from shock.” Jisoo laughed.

“So...after knowing that I’m like ancient as ...you’ll still stay?”

“I...I like you Lisa..and I don’t know how long we have, but I’ll stay for as long as I can.”

Jisoo’s words melted Lisa’s heart, she couldn’t stop herself from pulling Jisoo back into her arms.

“I like you too Chu.”

“Don’t worry I told her not to tell Jennie….that you’ll tell her soon.”

“You really told her everything huh.”

“Well I talked the talk so I need to walk the walk too.”

~ ~ ~ ~

It was a long day for Jennie, cooped up in what she calls, the “writing room,” all day long trying to squeeze another chapter out for her next novel, but her writer block has been so intense lately...well mostly since Chaeyoung left..again.

“I need a break.” She sighed, massaging her temples a bit, before getting up and heading towards her front door.

“Hi.” Chaeyoung smiled, seeing the now wide-eyed Jennie, who definitely wasn’t expecting the blonde to suddenly show up.

“Chae?”

“Uhm for you.” Chaeyoung handed the girl a bouquet of yellow tulips, “Tulips for new beginnings and forgiveness. I’m sorry I disappeared again.”

“They’re lovely, do you want to come inside?”

“Yeah..there’s things that I need to tell you.”

“Okay.” Jennie nodded. Her mind racing towards all the what-if, “Do you want anything to drink? Water or anything?”

“I’m fine… I just..” Chaeyoung stopped and just stared at Jennie.

“If you keep staring at me like that I might melt.” Jennie teased, looking away from the girl’s intense stare.

“Sorry...I just missed you.”

“You wouldn’t have to if you didn’t up and leave.” Jennie’s tone sounded more bitter than she wanted.

“I can explain that..that’s why I came here.” Chaeyoung walked towards the girl, taking her hand in hers and leading her onto the couch.

“Remember the last time I disappeared.” Chaeyoung began.

“Yes, and then you showed up one day at my door. Like is that going to be a thing with you? You go radio silent on me and just pop out of nowhere?”

“I promise you...this will be the last time.” Chaeyoung smiled.

“How can I trust that.”

“I never break my promises Jen...well I almost never do.” Chaeyoung corrected herself, “Just put your trust in me okay?”

“Alright.” Jennie nodded.

“So the last time I came here I told you a story..and we turned it into a novel...what if everything I told you is true?”

“What do you mean.”

“That story, it’s true...it’s mine.”

Jennie blinked once, twice, three times.

“You can’t---I mean---You’re serious.” Chaeyoung nodded.

“How? I mean I guess I know how..but everything..it’s all true??”

“Yes...all the events...it happened.”

“So you..and…”

“Lisa? Yeah.”

“Wow...I..I can’t..that’s..” Jennie was speechless, of all the scenarios her mind went to when she saw Chaeyoung at her front door, this was definitely not on the list.

“I know it’s a lot, but if you still need more proof I brought..” Chaeyoung reached for her bag, but Jennie held her hands still.

“No..I believe you.. Crazy as it is, I know that it’s the truth.”

“Honestly, I thought at first she was you...that you were her reincarnation...but your eyes though similar are different and then you introduced me to her...she’s”

“It’s Krys isn’t it?” Jennie deduced.

“Mhm..she looks just like her actually. It was surreal...to see her face again. I was thrown off for sure.”

“Is that why you suddenly went after her?” Jennie asked, her heart breaking a bit...her mind already going towards the worst possible outcome.

“I didn’t go after her like that. I.. Soojung..she’s always been someone that made me feel at ease. In each lifetime, there was always something there…”Chaeyoung explained her side.

“Even in this life too?”

“It’s a little different in this life. I told Krys already, about it all...because I realized that I lost myself while trying to keep my promise to her.. So I told Krys everything, and I told her that I can’t keep my promise to Soojung anymore, because you came into my life with that joyous laugh of yours and I didn’t understand why...but I wanted to listen to it forever. So I found myself always going to that convenience store around the same time, hoping that I can hear it again. That night when I visited you, the night before I left….I wanted to just let everything out...to tell you everything, but I realized that there was still something I needed to do..I left not to run away, but to find closure with all of them…”

“With Ruby Jane right?” Jennie spoke up, interrupting Chaeyoung.

“How’d you know?”

“When we were writing her arc...the tone of your voice..your eyes, your expression...it was melancholic and lonely. Like you were seeing all of it unfold right in front of you...and the pain when you spoke about what happened...it showed.” Jennie shrugged her shoulders.

“Yeah….after Soojung, Ruby Jane affected me the most...like I loved them all..I did, but Ruby Jane she..she was different. It was until recently that I was able to let her go.”

“You went to visit them, wherever they are right?”

“Yeah...now there’s only one thing left.”

“What is it?” Jennie asked.

“Come with me?”

With a nod Jennie followed Chaeyoung out.

“Where are we?”

“This is the cherry blossom forest.”

“Oh..”

“Yes, and in this box..I put all my memories of Soojung inside..photos and trinkets from all our time together..all that’s left..” Chaeyoung knelt down, grabbing the last items from her bag.

“Is that?” Jennie pointed at the photo.

“Yeah, this is Ruby Jane”

“She’s gorgeous.”

“Yeah, she was..”

“What’s that?” Jennie asked, pointing to the other item in Chaeyoung’s hand.

“It’s from the first rose she gave me. My name was Roseanne at the time, and she liked calling me Rosie. She had such a cute smile on her face when she said ‘A rose for my rosie.’”

Shutting the box, Chaeyoung placed it inside the hole she had dug earlier, burying everything right next to Soojung.

After patting the ground a few more times, Chaeyoung just stood there..her eyes cast down..

Soojung...I promised you that no matter what, I will always find you. Always. And in this lifetime..I did find you, but I also found her. She makes me feel things I thought I’d never feel again and more. I love her..and we only get one chance. It’s okay for me to get at least one happy ending right?

Jennie watched as Chaeyoung stood there in silence, wordlessly the girl stepped forward and held the blonde’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze to assure her that she’s here.

“Thank you.” Chaeyoung whispered.

“Are you okay now?” Jennie asked.

“Yeah...I feel..lighter.” Chaeyoung smiled, and it was so genuine Jennie almost teared up.

“Your smile.”

“Hmm?”

“Nothing.” Jennie shook her head, “Let’s go home?”

“Not yet.” Chaeyoung pulled her back suddenly, wrapping her arms around Jennie.

“There’s still something I need to tell you.” Chaeyoung spoke softly.

“What is it?”

“I love you Jennie Kim.”

“What?” Jennie pulled back, shocked, staring into Chaeyoung’s eyes. And there it is again, that full genuine smile.

“I said I love you. So much. I don’t know what will happen, but I want to be with you.”

“Chaeyoung…”

“You don’t have to answer me..I just wanted you to kn..”

But Jennie did answer her, not with words but with a kiss, a kiss that poured all her love for the blonde.

“I love you too...if that wasn’t obvious enough.” Jennie chuckled.

“Hmm it really wasn’t, maybe you should show me again.” Chaeyoung teased, Jennie rolled her eyes at this, but kissed her girl anyways.

“Hey Chae.”

“Hmm?”

“Will you still love me even though I’m old and gray?”

“Of course. You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes.”

“Cheesy.”

“It’s true. I’ll spend all your days with you. Until the last moment.”

“Promise.”

“I promise.”

“But after I’m gone, don’t try to look for my reincarnation. Just follow your heart okay? Love whoever you want.”

“It’s only our first day, and you already want to give me away?” Chaeyoung teased, earning a soft jab to the side from Jennie, “Of course not...I just don’t want you to be chasing after me like you did with her. Having you to myself in this life is all I care about.”

“Okay.”

~ ~ ~ ~

“Starting the expansion small was definitely the right choice. Thanks Chae.”

“Of course. I’m assuming you’ll now move to phase two of expansion?”

“Maybe, here’s the current proposal.”

Scooting over, Chaeyoung sat next to Krystal, the two staring at the document together.

“It doesn’t seem too bad, but..”

“Excuse me?” Jennie’s voice interrupted the two.

“Hey there love.” Chaeyoung smiled, getting up to greet her girl.

“What’s going on here?” Jennie glared at the blonde and at her cousin.

“Woah there chill Jen, we’re just working and now I’m leaving.” Krystal paused, smirked at the two and stole a kiss on Chaeyoung’s cheek before running off.

“YAH! KRYSTAL JUNG!” Jennie yelled, but the door already shut.

“Jeez that brat.” Jennie grumbled.

“Stop being jealous.” Chaeyoung gave Jennie’s pouty lips a chaste kiss.

“I’m trying not too, but knowing that she’s literally the reincarnation of your great love is...ugh.” Jennie groaned.

“Hey Soojung isn’t my great love.” Chaeyoung clarified.

“She isn’t?”

“Of course not, she’s my first love, Ruby Jane is my great love.”

“I-- Park Chaeyoung you..” Jennie sulked, wriggling away from Chaeyoung’s embrace.

“But Jennie Kim will be my one and only true love.”

At that Jennie’s frown was turned upside down.

“You’re mine too.” Jennie admitted.

“I know.” Chaeyoung winked.

“Cocky aren’t you.”

“Only with you.”

“You better. Now, let’s go Ms. Park.. you promised me date night.”

“Yes yes, I know.” Chaeyoung chuckled, wrapping an arm around Jennie and leading her out.

~ ~ ~

Life was going great for the four girls. Everything was just perfect, but of course...life just had to throw another curveball.

“What’s going on Lis?” Chaeyoung asked, brows furrowed, not able to read the expression on her best friend’s face.

“The comet is coming back again.”

“And? We’ve seen that comet 3 times already, nothing has changed.”

“Yeah, but this time it will fall on a lunar eclipse.”

“So?”

“This is our last chance Chae. After the eclipse...our time might be taken away.”

“What do you mean?” Chaeyoung frowned.

“Back then, Hae Soo and I...we ran into a shaman on the road. She looked at us then told me that she knows that my soul has died, but my body is still alive. She said that whatever granted me this curse, will come back to claim my body as well. And when that day comes I will no longer exist.”

“You seriously believed that?”

“I mean we are immortal Chae.” Lisa deadpanned.

“Okay point made...so when the eclipse ends, do we just disappear?”

“I don’t know...but we only have a year left.”

“What?”

“On the evening of the 16th of January, the comet will pass while the eclipse is at it’s full form.”

“Lisa..” Chaeyoung looked at her friend, seeing fear in her eyes for the first time in centuries.

“I’m scared Chae, you know how I’ve always been okay with just dying...but now that I’m happy with my life and with Chu...I’m scared of leaving her..I don’t want to leave her.”

“Lisa.” Chaeyoung got up, hugging her best friend, “I don’t know what will happen to us, but we still have a year. Let’s spend it with them happily.”

“Should we tell them?” Lisa asked, after composing herself.

“Do you think it’s better if they knew?”

“We don’t know what will happen on that day..we may disappear..we may not…”

“Yeah, but I don’t want to disappear without an explanation or even a goodbye.”

“I don’t either.”

“So then we know what we have to do.”

“Should we do it together?”

“Can we?”

“Let’s talk to them at my place.”

“Okay.”

~ ~ ~

“Hey Jennie.”

“What’s wrong?” Jennie asked, the only time Jisoo calls her ‘Jennie’ is if she’s mad at her or if something is bothering her.

The two were currently having lunch together, for the first time in a few weeks. Jennie even took Jisoo to her favorite spot, but the girl had been very quiet. Jennie decided to wait until the other girl says something, and her intuition was right.

“I..has Chaeng been okay?”

“Yeah..why?”

“Well...Lisa’s been acting differently the past few days.”

“Different how?”

“She spaces out a lot, anxious at times...I don’t know...do you think..she might be..cheating?”

“Of course not Chu! Lisa? That girl looks at you with so much love. Like she would probably die for you if she could. Maybe it's things at work? Chae said they had some business to take care of that requires travel, maybe that’s it? Plus, if I catch her cheating I’d make sure she’ll never see the light of day.” Jennie huffed trying to ease the frown from Jisoo’s face.

“Your right...I’m probably overthinking things.” Jisoo finally relaxed, her face beaming when she sees a cute little text from Lisa. Talk about perfect timing.

Hey beautiful, how’s your lunch date with Jen? I miss you, take me with you next time >.< I’ll drag Chae along, so Jen won’t make a fuss about third wheeling. I love you.

“What’d I say?” Jennie smiled.

~ ~

Days later, Jennie suddenly barged into Jisoo’s office, her face dark.

“Remember when we had lunch and you thought that Lisa was cheating.” Jennie began and Jisoo frowned and nodded, “Please Jen don’t tell me.” Jisoo’s face looked like that of a kicked puppy.

“I don’t think it’s Lisa, but I think Chaeyoung is...and Lisa’s helping her.”

“Huh?”

“She’s been off lately. Like Lisa, she’s been spacing out more, especially when we’re talking. And almost anxious all the time. She’s been taking her calls away from me, speaking in a hush tone if I’m near. And I asked her about it, but she said it was just Lisa, she even showed me her call log. But it’s strange, why would Lisa be calling her so much..especially since I know that the two usually just text each other...so I mean the only logical explanation is that she has some side hoe, and your girl is helping to cover it up. So now, I need you to call Lisa and force the truth out of her.”

“Did I sound that crazy too?” Jisoo asked after Jennie’s little rant.

“What do you mean?”

“When I thought Lisa was cheating.”

“I….Kim Jisoo, this is serious.” Jennie teared up, “What if it’s true.”

“Jendeuk..we’re talking about Chaeyoung here..like Park Chaeyoung, the girl who literally loved the same soul for centuries. I don’t think she’d be the type. Maybe they have some business that needs to be discussed over the phone. Now c’mon, let’s go have some food? I think you need some carbs to help you from jumping to conclusions.” Jisso chuckled, dragging the teary-eyed girl with her.

On the other hand, Chaeyoung and Lisa were also having lunch with Momo, a shaman who ran into the two girls the other day and basically called them out. The two were supposed to tell their girls days ago, but they’ve been trying to find more answers, then ‘hey we might just disappear into thin air, but we aren’t sure. Hugs?’

“How did you know?” Lisa asked, the three in the back corner of the small dumpling shop the shaman insisted on.

“We all know about you two, but never had any of us seen you guys. Your energy is different from those of the living and those of the dead. You two are in the middle, not dead but not fully alive as well.”

“Then do you know what happens, when the eclipse comes?” Chaeyoung asked, getting straight to the point.

“No...I..don’t.”

“Please..” Chaeyoung begged, holding the shaman’s hands tightly, “please if you know anything, or even have an idea..tell us.”

“Chae?” Chaeyoung heard Jennie’s voice.

“Love hi.” Chaeyoung moved her hands away from Momo’s, getting up to greet her girl but stopped when she saw the death glare Jennie was sending her, “Jen? Hey...what’s up?”

“I don’t know you tell me.” Jennie scoffed, running off, with Jisoo who was also looking at Lisa with a death glare, following after her.

“Listen, all I know is that...you two may not exist anymore after the eclipse, so I advise you to spend your last few months well. You’ve both lived a long time, but were you both happy? Did you live your life to the fullest? Were you happy? With that in mind, try to live without regrets. I’ll try to find answers, but I can’t promise anything.” Momo spoke, before heading to the door herself, “Now go after them, I think they misunderstood things.”

With a nod, Lisa and Chaeyoung both raced to Jennie’s house, hoping that both girls were there.

“Here we go.” Chaeyoung smiled at Lisa who nodded. Entering the passkey into Jennie’s condo, the two made their way insides.

“What are you two doing here?” Jisoo glared, while holding the crying Jennie in her arms.

“Baby it’s not what it looked like..there’s just something that Lisa and I need to tell you..just..please stop crying.” Chaeyoung tried to get closer to Jennie, but the girl just hid her face in the crook of Jisoo’s neck, “Love please…” Chaeyoung got close anyways, taking the spot next to Jennie, “that woman, her name is Momo, she’s a shaman…”

“A shaman?” Jisoo spoke up, looking at Chaeyoung and then at Lisa.

“Chu..I know you’ve probably noticed me being weird lately...and well it’s because I found something out...and we’ve been trying to find the best time to tell you guys.” Lisa bit her bottom lip nervously.

“What is it?” Jisoo asked, feeling nervous, the tone in Lisa’s voice..it’s not good.

“Jennie..please...look at me.” Chaeyoung placed a hand on Jennie’s shoulder, which the girl didn’t shrug off.

“Is it true..she’s just a shaman?” Jennie finally turned to Chaeyoung, who immediately took her crybaby in her arms, “Yes, she is. I was just desperate, asking her if she knew anything.” Chaeyoung whispered in Jennie’s ear, gently rubbing her back to calm the girl, which helped stop the girl from crying.

“Chu..Jen,” Lisa spoke up, taking the spot next to Jisoo, and holding the girl’s hand tightly in hers.

“What is it? You're scaring me babe.” Chu, leaned her head on Lisa’s shoulder.

“You both already know how Chae and I got our immortality, from Jen’s book.”

“Mhm.”

“Okay, well back then, I ran into a shaman on the road who basically told me that whatever gave me this curse will come back to claim my body as well and that when it happens...I won’t exist anymore.” Lisa began

“That comet has come and gone multiple times, and we’re still here.” Chaeyoung added, “So, I didn’t believe Lisa when she told me a few days ago...but..” Chaeyoung went mum and Lisa too couldn’t speak.

“But what?” Jennie tilted her head to look at Chaeyoung’s eyes that were filled with fear.

“The next time the comet comes back..it’ll be the same day as the lunar eclipse.” Lisa spoke up, pausing.

“And when that day comes...after the eclipse...we might..we might disappear.” Chaeyoung finished her sentence for her.

“What?” Jennie and Jisoo both looked at the two girls who tried to force a smile as they said in unison, “this will be our last life.”

Jennie and Jisoo were stunned...they’ve talked about it before, their fears of the future, especially as they both age, but they didn’t think of the opposite..

“Jen..do you think when we get older...that they’ll still love us the same?” Jisoo asked, hery eyes cast down at the cup of tea in her hand, no longer paying attention to the Netflix show Jennie put on.

“Hmm?” Jennie paused the show and turned her attention to her best friend.

“Lisa and Chaeyoung...do you think when we get old, grey, and ugly. When we’re barely able to walk..or chew anything solid?”

Jennie giggled a bit, but she knew Jisoo was serious.

“If Chae can love the same soul for centuries...I think that she’ll be able to love me the same no matter how grey and old I look..and I believe Lisa will do the same for you too.”

“Yeah, but she never had a “Soojung” in her life.” Jisoo put air quotes on the name.

“Perhaps, but she looks at you the same way I look at Chae...if you love her, that’s all that matters. To them it’ll be a few decades but for us, it’ll be our entire life. And I don’t know where the future will take us, but I know..right now..that I want to be with Chaeyoung until the end.”

“You’re right...I’ll just cherish every moment.” Jisoo smiled.

“Disappear? Like just poof gone?” Jisoo asked, it was already a lot to learn her girlfriend is immortal, but now this…

“We don’t know...that’s why we met that shaman. She ran into us and kind of called us out on our immortality...” Lisa answered, squeezing Jisoo’s shoulder to comfort her, “Don’t worry okay...I’m still here.” She whispered, and Jisoo just nodded her head, pulling Lisa closer.

“When is it?” Jennie finally spoke up, her hold so tight on Chaeyoung, that if the girl could die, she might have died from suffocation already.

“That’s uhm..”

“When Park Chaeyoung.” Jennie demanded.

“On your birthday.”

“That’s..6 months from now…”

“Yeah..”

That evening, the two brunettes clung onto their immortal girlfriends. The news hurts more than anything, but there’s nothing they could do. It’s like a terminal illness...no cure, nothing..all they can do is pack a lifetime of happiness in 6 months.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 5 months left ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Who was that? Why was he so close? Did you show him your ring?”

“Well good morning to you too baby.” Jennie chuckled, stealing a kiss from her wife, yes you read that right, wife’s pouty lips.Chaeyoung rarely got jealous, so it always makes Jennie all giddy when she is.

“Good morning, now who was that?” Chaeyoung huffed.

“That was Park Jimin, he’s an old friend..now stop being jealous and give me a hug. I missed you today. I hate when Jisoo makes me do stuff at the office, like I’m an author what the hell am I supposed to do here?” Jennie whined.

“Hmm I missed you too...happy 1st monthsary.”

“Happy 1st monthsary to you too Hubby.” Jennie smiled, holding tighter onto the blonde.

The two married a month ago, it wasn’t anything grand. It was a simple wedding with close friends and a few of Jennie’s family members.

“Your dad called me today.” Chaeyoung spoke, while the two were heading out of the publishing company.

It was at the wedding that Chaeyoung was able to see that Mr. Kim was nothing like the King at all. The man, although appearing cold, was quite nice and is still trying to persuade Jennie to return as the heir...even more so now that she’s married to Chaeyoung.

“Not again...just tell him you have no plans of merging.” Jennie groaned, leaning her head on her wife’s shoulder.

“It wasn’t about that, he was just calling to ask if we’re free for dinner tonight.”

“Hubby, that's my dad’s way of trying to get you to see him so he can try to convince you in person again.” Jennie laughed lightly.

“Well I told him it was a special day and if we can reschedule..”

“Should I talk to him?”

“No it’s okay. I mean everything will be yours even if we merge or not.”

“What?” Jennie turned her head towards her wife.

“I’ll tell you after dinner. I already had Joy reserve the whole place.”

“I told you to stop that, it’s so embarrassing. The entire wait staff is literally just watching us.”

“It’s a special day, let me spoil you okay?” Chaeyoung patted Jennie’s arm comfortingly, opening the car door for the girl.

The dinner was nice, of course the food was top notch.

“Now for your gift.”

“Chae..I thought we said no gifts.” Jennie pouted.

“I know, it’s not technically a gift because what’s mine is yours, but I had to get it all legalized and stuff and well I thought today would be a perfe..”

“Hubby your rambling.” Jennie interrupted Chaeyoung’s cute rambling.

“Sorry, I just...here.” Chaeyoung slid a manila folder across the table. Opening it up, Jennie’s jaw dropped.

“This..”

“It’s my last will and testament.”

“Chaeyoung.” Jennie frowned, she hates talking about their limited time.

“I know you don’t like talking about it, but I needed to tell you somehow. This is a copy, my lawyer will come to you when it’s time. After I leave, everything I own will be yours, you can do whatever you want with it.”

“You..” Jennie began to tear up, it always makes her cry..when she thinks about how little their time is now.

“Hush now, it’s okay. We still have time. I already made some changes so we can spend all my remaining days together. With Jisoo and Lisa too, if you want. Everything will be alright, Wifey, I promise.” Chaeyoung hugged the girl, leaving kisses on her head, comforting her.

They only have months left, Chaeyoung wonders...is this her punishment for loving someone she wasn’t meant to have?

~ ~ ~ ~ 4 months left ~ ~ ~ ~

“Okay ready 1, 2, 3. Smile!” Lisa took the photo, the 4 of them smiling brightly with the Swiss alps behind them.

It’s been 2 weeks since the quartet left Korea for Europe. Having decided on specific countries they wanted to go to together. Their first stop was Madrid, then Milan, Switzerland, Prague, and Paris. They’ll then fly down to Greece, head to Australia, Bali, and finally Thailand, before going back to Seoul just in time for the holidays.

“Let me see let me see.” The three other girls reached for the camera making sure they looked good.

“Hmm okay it’s a keep.” Jennie declared. She's been somewhat of the photo police ever since she caught Lisa taking a bunch of what she thought “ugly” candids of them. At first Lisa refused, but Jennie would always pull Jisoo away from the taller girl or purposely bother their moment. Which then made both Chaeyoung and Lisa pouty, so Lisa gave in.

Chaeyoung watched as Jennie, with Jisoo and Lisa, were checking on the photos they had just taken with wide smiles on their faces. Taking her phone out, she stealthily took a photo.

“Okay if you guys are done admiring yourselves, we better get to the station or else the train will leave without us.” Chaeyoung called out.

“We’re coming.” Lisa smiled, grabbing onto Jisoo’s hand, and Jennie running to her wife.

“Chae remember the last time we were here?” Lisa walked up to the girl. Watching as Jennie and Jisoo played around in the open field under the Eiffel tower.

“Yeah, with Louise.” Chaeyoung smiled, her mind going back to that time when Paris didn’t have the eiffel tower, where the land they were standing on was an open field, much like central park in New York City.

“Mhm..look at your tower now.” Lisa motioned to the iron lattice tower, “I still can’t believe you convinced them to do this for the world fair and to have her son as the engineer.”

“I wanted her vision to come true, Louis always wanted something special that only this city will be known for. Did you know Alexander wanted to name it after his mother?”

“REALLY?” Lisa’s boisterous voice and laugh caught their girls’ ears.

“What happened?” The two girls came over, smiles still on their faces.

“I just found out a piece of history..” Lisa began to chuckle thinking how La Tour Elouise or Elouise Tower doesn’t have the same flow as Eiffel, but then again it’s been over a century.

“What is it babe?” Jiso asked, loving the small carefree chuckle coming from the girl.

“Okay so you guys know about Elouise right?” The two nodded and Lisa narrated how Chaeyoung had the tower built and how Alexander, the engineer, was Elouise’s son and he wanted to name the tower after his mother, “Don’t you think it would have been funny if people called it the Elouise Tower rather than Eiffel? Ahh just cracks me up.”

“I think it’s sweet of him and you Chae.” Jisoo replied, her eyes staring at the tower, “Imagine, over a century later, people from all over travel here to admire its beauty. Makes me curious what other things you guys did that still affect us now.” Jisoo looked at her lover.

“I definitely didn’t do as much as this one over here. Her romantic always tried to fulfill her lover’s dreams.” Lisa treased.

“I think it’s very cute.” Jennie whispered, kissing Chaeyoung on her cheek, causing the girl to beam.

Later that evening, in their bedroom, Jennie was on the balcony peering out at the city, the Eiffel tower brightly glowing.

“How about you?” Chaeyoung whispered, back hugging the girl.

“What about me?” Jennie softly asked, snuggling further into the girl.

“What’s your dream and how can I make it come true?”

“Chaeyoung…” Jennie spoke softly, turning around to wrap her arms around the blonde’s waist, “I don’t need you to do anything...just..stay with me.”

“I will.”

I’ll find a way to stay. Chaeyoung thought to herself, understanding the double meaning behind Jennie’s words.

The two stayed in each other’s arms, savoring each other’s warmth.

So you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans. Holding me closer 'til our eyes meet. You won't ever be alone, wait for me to come home.” Chaeyoung began to sing Photograph, while swaying their bodies in a mini waltz, “When I'm away, I will remember how you kissed me. Under the lamppost back on Sixth street. Hearing you whisper through the phone, "Wait for me to come home".” The blonde finished, feeling her shirt slightly moisten.

“Hey we promised no more tears.” Chaeyoung wiped the tears away.

“I know, but when you do something so romantic and spontaneous like that...I can’t help it.” Jennie chuckled lightly.

~ ~ 2 Months Left ~ ~

“You can’t sleep too?” Jennie spoke, noticing she wasn’t the only one who couldn’t sleep, but Jisoo kept quiet.

“Can’t believe your wife has this amazing private beach house.” Jennie tried to ease the mood, taking a seat next to Jisoo on the beach, the waves splashing gently, the moon shining brightly.

The four girls were at their last destination, Thailand, Lisa’s home land. They spent a lot of time touring and enjoying, before deciding to spend the last few days in the girl’s beach house. Now, it’s their last night, tomorrow they’ll head back to Korea.

“It’s been getting harder.” Jisoo admitted after a long pause, finally turning to Jennie. And for the first time since finding out about the eclipse, Jennie saw the tears welling up in Jisoo’s eyes.

“Jisoo.” Jennie wrapped the older girl into her embrace. Her tough best friend who has never let life get her down, is now breaking down in her arms.

“It’s like as each day passes, it’s getting harder and harder for me to breathe, to smile, to forget that we don’t have much time left.” Jisoo cried in Jennie’s arms, letting all her pent up emotions out.

“How do you do it?” Jisoo asked, after calming down.

“Do what?” Jennie asked, wiping away the excess tears on Jisoo’s face.

“Pretend that you aren’t dying inside every night you go to sleep, knowing that as each day passes you get closer to losing her?”

“Oh.. well I guess..” Jennie paused, her gaze lingering on her wedding band, “I guess it’s because with each moment I temporarily forget about it. It’s like having her smile at me, hold me, just being with me eases all of it away. Of course, when the night comes and she falls asleep, the thoughts come back..and I find myself just watching her sleep. Seeing her chest rise and fall with each breath. Laying my head on her chest to hear her heartbeat calmly, letting it lull away all the thoughts, giving me peace of mind.”

“You really are a writer aren’t you.” Jisoo laughed softly, pulling her knees up close, leaning her chin on top of her arms.

“At least it got you to smile.”

“Yeah...so tonight’s one of those nights where your thoughts are stronger?”

“Going back home means that our few months is now down to a few weeks..and it just made me feel a little suffocated.”

“Yeah...who would have imagined we would fall in love with two immortals only to find out their mortality is even more fragile than ours.”

“Yeah…” Jennie agreed softly. “We’ll make it right? Even after?” She asked the slightly older girl.

“Of course Jendeukie...it’ll hurt in the beginning, but...I know they’ll watch over us.” Jisoo smiled at her friend, her own worries calming a bit.

They only have a few weeks left….a few short weeks.

~ 1 month left ~

“Ahh I can’t believe it’s Christmas eve already.” Lisa sighed, looking out and seeing the snow falling gently.

“I know, time sure’s been going by fast.” Chaeyoung agreed.

It’s already Christmas...our last Christmas. The two girls whispered in their hearts, trying to keep the cheery looks on their faces, not only for them but for their wives as well.

“Okay who wants presents!” Krystal shouted loudly, entering the Park household like it was her own.

“Your late Krys.” Jennie shook her head, “And it’s not even Christmas yet.”

“Sorry sorry, unnie called and I lost track of time. Besides, it looks like I’m the first one here. I thought you guys invited more people..”

“We did, I don’t know why they aren’t here yet.” Jisoo frowned.

“I’ll give Irene a call.” Lisa said, before stepping out, only to come back a few seconds later with Irene and a few other friends, “I can’t believe you guys were shy, it’s just us. Now come on, it’s Christmas.” Lisa smiled happily, making the guests feel more comfortable in Chaeyoung’s home.

As the party went on, Chaeyoung somehow found herself in the corner, her eyes on Jennie talking to Irene and Seulgi happily.

“So how are you Chae?” Krys asked, standing next to the blonde, handing her a glass of wine.

“I’m...happy.” Chaeyoung smiled, turning to Krystal before taking a sip of her drink.

“Good, that’s all that matters.” Krystal replied, her eyes lingering on Chaeyoung’s face a little longer, noticing how the blonde made an expression Krystal subconsciously recognized, “Something’s bothering you, what is it?”

“What?”

“Your face, I don’t know how I know this, but it’s the expression you always make when you want to mask your problems.”

“Oh.” Chayoung smiled.

I guess after seeing me make this face in so many different lifetimes, she can just tell. Chaeyoung though, before her eyes went back to watching her wife, “This will be our last Christmas together.” Chaeyoung turned to Krystal.

“What do you mean? Are you leaving again?” Krystal asked.

“Yeah.. I am.”

“What I thought you were going to spend..”

“Forever.” Chaeyoung added, “I..no, Lisa and I...we’ll be leaving forever.”

“Forever...you don’t mean..” Krystal finally put it together.

“The comet...all this time we thought there was no time limit...jokes on us right? Right when we’re at our happiest too.”

“Chae..does..”

“Yes..”

“When?”

“I promised I wouldn’t tell anybody else when.” Chaeyoung replied, before excusing herself to go be with her wife,“Hi.” Chaeyoung whispered, gingerly kissing her temple.

“Ugh such a mushy couple, why am I single?” Yeri groaned making the others laugh.

That evening, when the party was over, the two lovebirds found themselves cuddled on the couch, a blanket draped over their bodies, watching as the snow gently fell.

“I never realized how beautiful snow on Christmas eve is until now...I’ve seen it so many times..but I think it’s only now that I’ve realized it’s beauty.”

“Hmm.” Jennie hummed in agreement, noticing the time, the brunette turned and smiled, “Merry Christmas Hubby.”

“Merry Christmas Wifey.” Chaeyoung returned the bright smile, leaning down to capture her wife’s ever so tempting lips, “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

As promised, no presents were exchanged, just smiles, hugs, and kisses. A memory Jennie will keep close to her heart.

--1 week left--

“Is there really nothing Momo?” Chaeyoung asked, again visiting the shaman.

“I’ve asked other shamans and the gods, but there’s nothing..I’m sorry.” Momo looked at the two, who had defeated looks on their faces.

“It’s alright...we’ve lived enough anyways. Thank you for your help.” Lisa stood up, bowing respectfully and offering a small smile, “C’mon Chae, we’ll be late to dinner.”

“Thank you Momo..for everything.” Chaeyoung bowed her head respectfully, before leaving with Lisa.

“1 Week Chae..”

“Yeah..”

-1 day left-

“You Cheated!” Lisa accused, surprised that Chaeyoung won the bet, she was always the better archer out of the two.

“I didn’t. It’s not my fault you stopped practicing. Now turn around and carry me to the restaurant.” Chaeyoung laughed.

They only have 2 days left. The two, after having talked it out with Jennie and Jisoo, deciding to spend 1 whole day together..it is the last time they’ll be alone together so they wanted to make more happy memories.

Lisa rolled her eyes, but agreed anyways, “Whatever, hop on dummy.”

The two best friends spent their entire day like that. Laughing, playing, talking about their life.

“So it’s tomorrow..” Lisa spoke while the two walked along Chaeyoung’s cherry blossom forest.

“Yep...tomorrow.”

“Crazy how we’ve talked about death and wanting for it to come knocking at our doors..but now that it’s here..”

“We both don’t want to open up.” Chaeyoung finished Lisa’s sentence.

“Yeah...take me back a few decades ago, then by all means come and get me..but why now?”

“The universe hates us like that, that’s why.” Chaeyoung jokes.

“No it hates you, I’m just collateral damage.” Lisa teased back, “ But you know... I’m glad you weren’t alone in this. Glad we had each other. We lived good lives together. We laughed, cried...died..it was a good run, Chaeng.. I hope that in our next life, if we get one, that you’ll be my soulmate again.” Lisa stopped, eyeing her friend, and taking her hand in hers, “ No matter what happens tomorrow night...I have no regrets. I’ll leave with a peaceful heart and mind.”

“I..Lisa..” Chaeyoung teared up, it’s rare to see Lisa’s vulnerability, “You are my best friend, my soulmate. I love you and I hope that we find each other again.” Chaeyoung hugged the dark haired girl tightly while she whispered, “Thank you for being with me all this time.”

“Of course. I love you Chae.” Lisa hugged the blonde tighter.

I got to spend many lives with you….more than what I thought I could get. All of it was worth the pain, now if only I could somehow ease her pain from when I leave...ah...the universe...really.. Lisa thought, letting a lone tear, before hastily wiping it away and pulling back to wipe Chaeyoung’s tears, “Hey we still have to celebrate Jen’s birthday tomorrow. We still have tomorrow.”

“Yeah...we still have tomorrow.” Chaeyoung agreed, smiling again.

⧫ D-Day ⧫

“Good morning Wifey, Happy Birthday!” Chaeyoung smiled, entering their bedroom with breakfast in hand.

“Good morning Hubby. I was wondering where you went.” Jennie pouted before muttering something under her breath.

“What? I didn’t quite catch that.” Chaeyoung asked, setting the tray on the side table, while she sat at the edge of the bed.

“I said...I wanted to wake-up in your arms.”

“Jen..” Chaeyoung looked at her wife, feeling bad that she didn’t think of that.

“Come here.” Chaeyoung scooted in bed and opened her arms, which of course Jennie gladly snuggled in, “Close your eyes..give me your hand darling…” Chaeyoung began to hum softly, gently lulling Jennie back to sleep.

An hour later, Jennie found herself waking up in Chaeyoung’s arms, a soft smile on her lips.

“Just a few more minutes, than I’ll wake you.” Jennie whispered, tucking a loose strand of her behind Chaeyoung’s ears, “It would be nice if I could have woken up in your arms everyday after today. But I’ll take what I can get...Happy birthday to me right?” Jennie chuckled lowly, blinking away her tears. Her soft laugh was enough to stir the blonde awake though.”

“Hi..good morning again birthday Wifey.” Chaeyoung smiled, her voice a little rough, leaning down to kiss Jennie’s forehead.

“Hey...breakfast is cold.”

“It’s okay, we can just reheat it or go out..let’s stay like this just for a few more minutes.” Chaeyoung replied, pulling her wife in closer.

The couple finally got out of bed at noon, their stomachs begging for food.

“Love, answer your phone, it’s been ringing non-stop.” Chaeyoung laughed, but Jennie just ignored the device, putting it on silence and turning her attention back on her lovely wife.,” It’s my day and they can wait..it’s just happy birthday messages anyways...I can always reply tomorrow.”

“Right...hey look there’s Lis and Chu.” Chaeyoung sensed the mood going down and was glad for the other couple’s perfect timing.

“Jendeukie happy birthday.” Jisoo smiled, hugging her friend tightly, “I got you a gift, but I figured you might want it another time.” Jisoo whispered in her ear.

~

“So this is it huh.” Lisa voiced out her eyes on Jisoo laughing with Jennie excitedly as they walked towards Lisa’s and Jisoo’s place, to part ways.

“Yep, last day.” Chaeyoung breathed out.

“So I’ll see you on the other side then?” Lisa opened her arms.

“Of course.” Chaeyoung hugged the girl tightly.

“Take care.”

“You too.”

As the goodbyes were said, the four girls did their best to hold back their tears. The day was filled with fun and happiness. They didn’t want to ruin that...although they all knew...once they separate, when everyone is in their own homes..it’ll be it. Their months, weeks, days, are finally down to the last few minutes and seconds. Precious time they agreed to spend with their loved one.

~

“So...did you have fun today?” Chaeyoung asked, the two were now home after saying their goodbyes to Lisa and Jisoo, walking around the city, walking at the Han River, going back to the 7Eleven where they first met...the couple retraced all their precious memories...but now it was time. The eclipse is almost fully complete. Just a few more minutes.

“It’s time.” Jennie mumbled but shook her head, turning to Chaeyoung, she smiled, “It was great. I got to spend it with you, Chu, and Lisa. I’ll never forget it.”

Jennie kept her words short, afraid that all the emotions she’s been holding back will come out, not after she promised herself not to cry today...to only smile, not so much for herself, but for her wife. Jennie wants the last memory Chaeyoung has of her is one with her smiling. No tears, Jennie wants to send her off with a smile, that’s what she promised to herself.

“I’m glad..that’s all I wanted. To spend your day happily like this.” Chaeyoung replied, stepping closer to her wife, reaching up to cup her face, thumb gently grazing over her cheek. The look in Chaeyoung’s eyes were filled with so much love and warmth, Jennie couldn’t help but let the tears finally escape to let it all out, “It’s okay. Everything will be okay. You will be okay.” Chaeyoung whispered, wiping away Jennie’s tears. Leaning down, Chaeyoung tenderly kissed Jennie’s tears away.

As the two pulled back, the eclipse reached its final form, and the comet began to pass.

Chaeyoung smiled her widest smile at her wife, trying to keep her own tears at bay, but of course she failed...how can she when Jennie was trying so hard to keep a smile on her face, “I’m sorry.. Be happy. I’ll always be here. I love you Wifey...Goodbye.” As Chaeyoung said her goodbye, a lone tear escaped.

“I love you too.” Jennie replied, her knees giving out from under her. “Chaeyoung-ah..” Jennie sobbed, letting all her pent up anguish out.

The following morning, Jennie found herself on the ground, no memory of when she fell asleep. Her eyes were so puffy they barely opened and her head hurt from crying.

“You have to put yourself together.” Jennie told herself. She kept chanting this over and over as she found strength to get off the ground and go to their bedroom, plopping down on the bed..Jennie turned to Chaeyoung’s side, letting her hand graze over..it was cold..the whole villa seemed so much colder now.

Getting up, Jennie went to their closet and took out her favorite hoodie, Chaeyoung’s black YSL oversized hoodie, and let it fall over her body, letting Chaeyoung’s scent engulf her senses, “Just 1 day Jen...just 1 day, then I really need to..” Jennie stopped, feeling something in the pocket, reaching in, Jennie took out an envelope with her name on it.

Taking a deep breath, Jennie laid back in bed before finally opening the letter.

My Dearest Wifey,

I hope this letter finds you well. I wrote it with the intention of you finding it days after the eclipse...but I know you well enough that you would probably slip on this hoodie and wallow in our bed. I also know that you’re thinking of something ridiculous like only mourning for a day before you have to suddenly be happy...but I’m here to tell you that it’s okay if you feel sad..honestly, it hurts that I have to write this kind of letter to you...never in my life did I think I’d be the one having to leave my lover first..but here we are. I didn’t write this to tell you to stop crying or to stop being sad, because I’ve gone through what you are going through now. It’s like your heart was ripped out of your chest, it’s hard to breath, and you wished it was all a dream...but this is our...your reality now. I’m sorry, was I too blunt? But Jennie...you know that I love you so much and I also know how you’ve been trying to hide your pain, but your eyes can’t lie to me Wifey...I know that it’s been hard for you, but yet you still stayed by my side until the end. I’m sorry that I couldn’t do more for you and that I was lacking in many ways. Ahh my Wifey...Jennie Park..I’m really going to miss you and I know you’ll miss me too...but after you accept and move on, I hope that you live the rest of your life happily and also not if, but when, you find someone to let in again, just know that I will be smiling down on the two of you. I love you so much Wifey.

Forever your Hubby,

Chaeyoung.

Jennie thought that she had no more tears left to cry, but then why was her vision blurring again and why were her shoulders heaving up and down from her sobs...guess she still had a few more tears left.

~1 year later~

“Jen it’s your birthday tomorrow...what should we do?” Krystal asked. It’s almost Jennie’s birthday again and Krystal dragged her and Jisoo out to come up with a game plan for it.

“Oh..right.” Jennie smiled, not really feeling up for a grand celebration.

“Jen..” Jisoo looked at her best friend...knowing the girl still hasn’t really moved on yet..like her.

“A simple dinner with just us then?” Krystal suggested.

“Yeah that sounds good Krys.” Jennie admitted, knowing that if she doesn’t agree to anything her cousin will keep throwing out ideas.

“Alright, I’ll reserve a table at your favorite restaurant. Now let’s finish this meal with smiles at least okay?” Krsytal asked, and the two girls forced small smiles on their faces.

That evening, Jennie was at home, sitting out under the sky.

“You miss her still right?” Uncle Cho came out from the back garden, about to head home for the evening.

“Oh uncle..I thought you had left already, it’s already late..Come on let me send you home.” Jennie stood up, but Uncle Cho put a hand out stopping the girl, “It’s okay. I can handle it..just stay there and rest. I know it’s been hard on you since the accident..but everything will be okay Jennie...Have a goodnight.” Uncle Cho smiled at the girl before heading to the main entrance.

The cover story the girls came up with for Chaeyoung and Lisa’s disappearance is a car accident, wherein their bodies couldn’t be recovered. The whole thing was staged perfectly and was believed by everyone.

As Jennie went to bed that night, she put on Chaeyoung’s YSL hoodie, her wife’s scent gone…

“I miss you Hubby..” Jennie whispered, letting exhaustion take over and her eyes shutting.

As the morning came, Jennie woke up feeling even more tired than when she slept last night.

“Ah it’s been a year already hubby.” Jennie spoke to no one in particular, before deciding to get out of bed, ignoring the constant ringing of her phone..thinking it’s just the usual Happy Birthday messages, “I’ll just reply later.” Jennie sighed, getting out of bed to get some food.

As Jennie made her way to the kitchen the faint smell of Kimchi fried rice and seaweed soup invaded her nostrils, “Chu..” Jennie deduced, understanding that her best friend also probably didn’t want to be alone today.

I guess this is how my birthday will be like for… Jennie’s thoughts were put to a halt when she saw the back view of the person in her kitchen. The blonde hair and the long legs..there’s no doubt.

Swallowing, Jennie softly called out, “Chaeyoung?” And when the blonde turned around, Jennie’s legs gave in, but Chaeyoung was quick to catch her, “Happy birthday Wifey.” Chaeyoung whispered, as Jennie began to cry.

“Is this real? How are you here?” Jennie asked after her sobbing is reduced to light hiccups.

“It’s real I’m here.” Chaeyoung assured her, bending down to plant a light kiss on Jennie’s lips, “It’s not a dream.”

“Hubby..” Jennie hugged her wife tightly again, afraid that she’ll disappear if she lets go.

“Love, why don’t we eat first. It was a long walk, but we really wanted to be here by today.”

“We?”

“I’ll explain everything while we eat.”

“5 more minutes.” Jennie snuggled back into Chaeyoung’s arms, and who was Chaeyoung to deny her birthday Wifey’s request.

After the 5 minutes, Chaeyoung was finally able to coax Jennie to get up and eat. As the two ate, Chaeyoung told Jennie how she and Lisa somehow woke up in the same spot they first found their immortality.

“We were confused at first. Thinking ah this might be heaven or something, but then some hikers found us and asked if we were okay. It was only then that we realized that we were wearing hanboks, the same one from that night.. There was even blood and stuff all over us. The hikers were about to call 119, but we lied that we were filming something and got separated from the staff. So then we asked them to help us back to the parking lot and they even lent us clothes and drove us to a safehouse Lisa and I have that we haven’t used in ages, thankfully we kept it furnished and stuff. So we showered there, changed, and went to see Momo at the temple. There she told us that we’re mortal, completely. So obviously, we raced to you two as fast as possible, it was only when i got here did I finally realize the date.” Chaeyoung finished her tale, only to see Jennie’s unamused face.

“Love?” Chaeyoung spoke slowly and softly, the dark expression on Jennie’s face scaring her a bit.

“So you two, instead of going straight home to us, decide to see Momo first like what even!” Jennie complained, and Chaeyoung couldn’t help but smile, “Really...that’s what you got from all of that?”

“I mean you could have gone home first, showered here, and we could have all gone together.”

“Well I mean we didn’t want to get your hopes up or anything..like what if it’s only for a day or something..”

“Still…” Jennie pouted.

“Okay okay, I’m sorry.” Chaeyoung got up, hugging the pouting dumpling, “Now stop being mad, and let's eat this breakfast and see Lisa and Chu?” Chaeyoung suggested, but Jennie shook her head no, “Let’s do that tomorrow.. I just want to spend my birthday with the best birthday present I could ever get.”

“Tch Cheesy, but okay. Let’s do that. So what do you want to do?”

“I just want to cuddle and spend all day...and the rest of my life with you.”

“I think that could be arranged.” Chaeyoung smiled, lifting Jennie up from her seat and carrying her back into their bedroom.

Meanwhile,

“Chu I’m really here! Put that phone down, I’m sure Jen has already seen Chae.” Lisa was still trying to convince Jisoo that she wasn’t a ghost. Lisa’s karma for pretending to be a ghost when Jisoo first woke up all groggy and half-asleep.

“Look I don’t know who you are and why you look like mmmphh.” Lisa’s self control went out the window and immediately planted a deep kiss on Jisoo’s lips.

“It’s really me babe.” Lisa spoke, her lips still hovering above Jisoo’s, “I’m sorry I pranked you like that.”

Finally snapping out of her daze, and seeing the sincere and loving look in the other girl’s eyes, Jisoo began to cry, while lightly punching the girl, “You...how are you here.. What’s going on..Do you even know how much I….I..how long?”

And so Lisa also explained what happened.

“So the two of you are mortal?”

“Yep..this is really our last life.
