Goodbye My Friend

Unrelenting Fortitude

"You !" Jeri huffed, glaring at the older man.

"That's not very nice," Kibum laughed, an apologetic expression on his face none-the-less.

"Yeah well you still do! Ditching us so you can put your stupidly beautiful face on drama posters," she replied, crossing her arms over her chest with a pout.

"I'm not ditching you guys Jeri, I'm just going to be focusing on my acting; you'll still see me around," Kibum claimed, trying to get the girl to stop glaring at him.

When her pout didn't lessen he was going to sigh in defeat until he noticed that her eyes were starting to tear up.

"Aigoo, you big baby~" he cooed, pulling the girl into his chest.

"You better come visit!" she demanded with a sniffle.

"Yes dear," he laughed, kissing the top of her head while rubbing her back.

"Aww, you two are so cute~!" Leeteuk cooed, poking his head around the corner.

"Everyone's cuter than you Ajusshi~" Jeri teased, sticking her tongue out at the leader.

Leeteuk gave her a pout making the duo laugh and Kibum release the girl, giving her a smile and a pat on the back as he shouldered his bag and left the dorm.

"Don't worry Jeri, I'm sure you'll see him again real soon," Ryeowook claimed, walking forward to pat her back in comfort.

Jeri nodded with her bottom lip sticking out before spinning around and dashing into the living room of the dorm.

"PANCAAAKKE!! I NEED A HUG!!!" she wailed, jumping onto the couch and hugging the Canadian.

"Aww, there, there little Clover, I'm here to love you, don't worry," Henry laughed, hugging her back.

Jeri couldn't help but smile at her newly acquired nickname and bury her head into Henry's shoulder.

"No making out on the couch you two," Kyuhyun teased, leaning over the back to smirk down at them.

"Why Kyutie, jealous that it's not you?" she teased back, grinning up at him.

"I just might if you keep cuddling with the maknae," he smirked, resting his elbow on the back of the couch and his chin in his palm.

"No! My Clover!" Henry pouted, hugging the girl with a pout.

"Jeri you ready?" a tired voice called from the foyer.

"Coming~~!" she sang, instantly bolting off of the couch and into the foyer, pushing her shoes on and latching onto Hangeng's arm. "Let's go Hannie let's goooooo~!"

"Apparently she's Hankyun-hyung's Clover," Donghae laughed, patting a pouting Henry on the head.

The duo left the dorm, taking the stairs down to the lobby, then walked out the back of the building and down the street.

"So how much more do you plan on making your collection grow?" Hangeng asked with a slight laugh.

"I have everyone except Itchy, Simon and Nemo," she replied with a grin, skipping ahead of him slightly. "And I was hoping to get a couple other things before we head back."

"Like?" Hangeng dared to ask with a chuckle.

Jeri spun around and put her finger against her lips and winked at him. "You'll have to wait and see."

Hangeng couldn't help but laugh as she sped the rest of the way down the street and entered the K-Pop memorabilia store. Entering behind her, he instantly caught sight of her in front of the Super Junior section.

"Oh for heaven sakes! I'm 173 centimeters!" she huffed when she couldn't reach the top shelf.

"My adorably short dongsaeng~!" Hangeng cooed, walking up to her and grabbing the Siwon plushie.

He handed it to her and Jeri instantly clutched it to her chest and a wide smile before grabbing a Heechul and the last Donghae plushies.

"You know, the people working here probably think you're a Sasaeng or something," Hangeng laughed, following her through the rest of the story.

"Aish! Sasaengs have no class and no tact, like seriously, if you really think that "Oppa" will fall in love with you after stalking him and invading his privacy and even hurting him or any others, then you seriously need to seek out a counsellor; there's something wrong with you," Jeri rambled with a glare on her face.

"Sounds like you've run into a couple," Hangeng claimed, watching her skim the shelves.

"Yeah, when we went to Japan for our photobook last year, the one where we met you guys…?" Hangeng nodded showing he remembered which one she was talking about. "Yeah, well a bunch of fans reached out and ripped my sweater and even pulled out a chunk of hair from the back of my head."

"They did!? Jeri that's horrible!" he gasped.

"Yeah, it was pretty freaking scary, but Jun and Harii have gotten worse while we've been here in Korea," Jeri sighed.

Hangeng nodded and chose not to push the topic; this was supposed to be a "reunion party" outing that he had promised her, not a brooding party.

When he turned his head down the aisle he notices the 'Tambourine' section had some new additions to it. Seeing the plushie, he couldn't suppress a grin as he pulled it off the shelf and walked over to the girl. He turned her head so that she was facing him and placed the plushies beside her face.

"Hmm… the eye colour's a little off, but they got your freckles right," he laughed.

Jeri stuck her tongue out at him but couldn't keep the grin off of her face.

The duo moved up to the cash register, and after much insisting from him, Hangeng bought Heechul and Siwon's plushies for her while she paid for Donghae's.

"Oppa~~ Saranghae~~" she sang, latching onto his arm with a grin.

"Yes, yes, I love you too," Hangeng laughed, a tinge of pink dusting his cheeks.

They were quiet for a few minutes before Hangeng notice Jeri's smile had transformed into a pout. "What's wrong?"

"How are you feeling?" she asked, concern in her eyes.

Hangeng let out a heavy sigh. A couple days after the Halloween party nearly two months ago, he had let it slip that he had gotten sick, and when she demanded to know what was wrong and he told her, she nearly threw her glass of water across the room.

"I'm getting treatment for it, so I'm feeling a bit better," he sighed.

"Stupid contract people, making my Hannie be in pain just because he's cute," she booed.

Hangeng snorted to try and keep his laughter in, fully aware of the fact that they were out in public making her grin and began to steer her towards a small coffee stand by the park.

"Ah~ Thank you Hannie~~" she sang, sipping on her mocha with a smile.

Hangeng chuckled when some of the foam got on the tip of her nose and wiped it away with his thumb. "You're such a slob," he laughed.

"You love me anyways," she grinned, continuing to sip on her drink.

Hangeng chuckled and patted her head with a smile, sipping his own drink as they moved through the snow-covered streets back towards the dorm.

"So what are your plans for tomorrow?" she asked, re-adjusting the bag on her arm.

Hangeng took it from her and  rested it over his shoulder. "Tomorrow? Hmmm… I don’t think I have anything to do. I might just bum around in a park, feed the pigeons." he laughed.

"Aww, old man pigeon feeder Hannie~ So cute!" she cooed, reaching up to pinch his cheek.

"Ya you!" he laughed, swatting at her hand.

Jeri laughed and dashed away from him, Hangeng smiling and chasing after her.

-=-=-=-

Climbing up the stairs after a long day of schedules, Jeri was ready to flop onto the couch(or one of the boys) and just have a nice nap. She punched in the keycode on the door and opened it when she heard a click. She quickly kicked off her shoes and waved to Donghae who was lounging on the couch.

"Hannie~♪" Jeri sang, opening his door and walking into his room.

Her face fell when she saw that the room was full of boxes, some of them already taped up and piling in the corner.

"W-w…what…?"

"He didn't tell you?"

Jeri swung around to see Leeteuk standing behind her with a forlorn expression. Remembering his question, she shook her head, fearing what she was about to hear.

"Hankyun filed a complaint against SM Entertainment; he's not going to be a part of Super Junior anymore…" Leeteuk said.

Jeri's eyes widened and gave him a horrified look, shaking her head.

"No… he would have told me… if something like that was-"

She stopped herself when the past couple days popped into her head. Her best friend had wanted to spend more time with her suddenly, and he let it slip that he had gotten sick.

Not saying another word, Jeri pushed passed Leeteuk, the man trying to grab her and stop her. She slipped on her shoes and bolted out the door, not even bothering to close it as she raced down the stairs.

"What are your plans for tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow? Hmmm… I don’t think I have anything to do. I might just bum around in a park, feed the pigeons."

Jeri burst through the front doors and raced down the street, bumping into people along the way but finding she didn't care. She dashed across the road, the cars honking at her even though they were nowhere near her and kept running. She skidded around the corner and stopped at the bottom of the stairs to the park. She scanned around and quickly caught sight of a tall figure sitting on the park bench

The entire time she was running, her mind was a jumbled mess, but now that she was walking towards him, she went from jumbled to panicked. She stood behind him and tried to think of what she could say.

"You're a jerk you know that?" she stated.

Hangeng jumped slightly and swung around in his seat to see her standing there. Seeing her distressed and teary eyes, he gave her a sad smile and stood.

"How was I supposed to tell you?" he questioned, not denying her statement.

"I don't know! But I shouldn't have to find out from your room being full of boxes and Leeteuk telling me!!" she cried, tears leaking out of her eyes.

"I was worried that you'd march up to their main office and smack them for real," he joked with a wry laugh.

When Jeri didn't so much as smile, Hangeng's face fell and he walked around the bench so that he was standing beside her.

"I didn't tell you because… I didn't want to see you upset," he claimed, wiping her tears away with his thumb.

Jeri shook her head and stepped away from him and turning her back to him wrapping her arms around herself.

"Jeri… please… say something… talk to me," he begged, reaching out for her.

"Why?" she whimpered, making him freeze.

"What?"

"Why?" she repeated. "Why… why can't I… be angry at you? That's all I want right now! To yell at you to tell you you're stupid for going home! So why… why can't I… get mad…?" she whimpered, her shoulders shaking.

Hangeng watched her with a torn expression. He stepped forward and swiftly swung her around and wrapped his arms around her, leaning his head against her temple.

"Hit me, yell at me, kick me, I don't care, just don't cry; I can't stand to watch you cry," he whispered, hugging her tighter.

"I can't," Jeri murmured into his shoulder. "I can't yell at you or hit you, or be angry at you… because none of this is your fault."

She gripped his sweater and buried her face further into his collarbone.

"SM pushed you to do things that were stupid and unfair, and because of that, you got sick. It's not your fault, it's theirs… but that doesn't make it any easier..."

A sad smile formed on Hangeng's face and he pulled away from her slightly making her look up at him. He snorted slightly and wiped at her face with his sleeve until it was dry. When he was done, he rested his hand on her cheek, making her look up at him fully.

"You have been probably one of the best friends I've had since I came to South Korea, Jeri, and because of that, I can't and won't forget about you. You'll always be here," he claimed, bringing her hand up to rest on his heart with a sad smile.

Jeri's lower lip quivered slightly and she threw herself back into his shoulder, Hangeng allowing her to wrap her arms around him in an attempt to keep him longer, him wrapping one arm around her while the other began petting her head. He quickly kissed her temple in affection and rested his cheek on top of her head.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Jeri stopped her hand from knocking on the door and sighed, resting her forehead against the cold steel. She had promised, after her prolonged breakdown in the park, that she would be there to send him off the day he was flying back to China. So here she stood.

She lifted her head and knocked on the door. After a couple of seconds, the door opened to reveal Hangeng's manager. The man smiled at her, gave her a nod and allowed her to enter without a word.

She walked into the living room and saw that the place still had a few boxes here and there, but they were smaller then some of the ones she had seen her friend packing.

"I still have room in that one; you think I could fold you up and take you with me?" said man questioned, placing his hands on her shoulders from behind.

"I'm flexible, but not that flexible," she laughed, patting his hands.

The two didn't move for a couple seconds until Hangeng sighed and released her, walking in front of her and picking up a couple boxes. Jeri followed suit and grabbed a couple, following him and his manager out of the room to the truck outside.

When all of the boxes were packed, Hangeng pulled her into the van he was taking to the airport and they sat beside each other.

Jeri moved her head so that it rested on his shoulder, Hangeng moving his so his rested on top of hers.

"China's not that far away… I could come and visit…" Jeri began.

"I'd like that. It means I could introduce you to my parents too," he laughed.

Jeri smiled at the thought, Hangeng having told her about his parents several times in the past. She had wanted to meet them one day… maybe she could manage it next time she was in the area.

"We're here," his manager called, stopping the van.

The two sighed and climbed out of the van. They looked towards the airport like it was filled with bombs. Hangeng looked down at Jeri, gave her a sad smile and taking her hand, walked towards the airport.

He went through the whole baggage check and screening, and sat down beside Jeri in the waiting area for the plane to arrive.

It was silent for a couple minutes until Hangeng pulled on Jeri's sleeve.

The girl turned to look at him as Hangeng lifted the small armrest between them, Jeri understanding and shuffling closer to his side. He wrapped his arm around her waist as she turned slightly so that she could bury her nose into his collarbone, his head resting on top of her own.

"Oh come on, I just finished crying," Jeri croaked, clapping her hands over her face.

Hangeng simply tightened his grip on her waist, pulling her closer to him and pulled her head so that it rested under his chin, allowing her to cry.

After a couple minutes, Jeri had managed to calm herself down, wiped her eyes and gave a dry laugh.

"You're all wet now," she claimed, attempting to wipe the dampness off of his sweater.

"I don't mind. Do you feel any better?" he asked.

"No," she croaked, her smile dropping.

Hangeng gave her a sad smile and brushed her bangs away from her forehead, running his thumb across her eyebrows.

'Attention. Flight number 220 to China will be boarding shortly. Please make your way to Gate 4 now. Thank you.'

Jeri and Hangeng stood from their seats as Hangeng’s manager walked over.

"Well… I guess… this is it…" Hangeng said awkwardly.

Jeri nodded slowly and looked up at him. The two gave each other sorry smiles and he pulled her into a hug, Jeri wrapping her arms around his back and burying her head into his collarbone.

"I'm going to miss you so much," he whispered.

Jeri simply nodded, not trusting her voice enough to speak.

The two separated and Jeri took a couple steps back, quickly wiping her eyes dry. Hangeng bent down to pick up his carry-on and turned around without another word, walking with his manager through the glass doors.

As they slid closed, Jeri sunk to her knees and let the tears fall, covering her face with her hands, trying to muffle her sobs. A hand gently rested on her shoulder and she slowly raised her head to see Jun, Harii and Setiawan standing beside her.

Jeri launched herself into her brother's chest and sobbed louder, gripping his coat in desperation, Jun wrapping his arms around her back and rubbing comforting circles on her shoulders.

"C'mon. Let's get you home."
