Chapter 9*

Hidden Raindrop

She walked towards her step by step, very slowly.

As she came close, Suzy saw her eyes changed from brown to blue.

“Hajima, Jaemi-ah…” Jieun pleaded.

“N-neo… wh-what are you…” Suzy stuttered quietly in fear.

Seeing how Jaemi was, Jieun ran to get help. She didn’t have much time so she ran to the first person she saw, Jaesung.

“Jae… Jaemi…” Jieun panted.

“What about Jaemi?” Jaesung asked a little worried.

“There’s trouble in the cafeteria,” Jieun answered.

Before Jieun could explain the situation, Jaesung had already ran towards the cafeteria. However, he was too late. Someone was already in front of Jaemi.

“Geumanhae,” a guy crooned, standing in front of Jaemi.

“Kai oppa...” Suzy mumbled.

He looked at Jaemi, but he wasn’t able to see her eyes clearly because of her fringe in the way. Instead, he saw something near her ear that was shining blue. He leaned to the side to get a better look, but by then, Jaemi’s mark and eyes had already died down and was back to its normal state.

Jaemi looked up at Kai and quickly ran away. He tried to run after her but Jaesung stopped him, “She needs time alone,” Jaesung said sternly.

Since Jaesung was his sunbae, Kai listened and went to class.

“SUZY! Are you okay?” One of Suzy’s followers asked.

“I’m fine,” Suzy said walking away.

She began thinking to herself. What the heck is she… I’ve got to find out. And when I do, she’ll be sorry.

School ended and Jaesung came home to talk to his father.

“How was work today appa?” Jaesung asked as he locked the doors.

“It was fine, where’s Jaemi?”

“She went to go film a project with her group,” Jaesung responded, “But appa, something happened to Jaemi today.”

Kijoon turned to face his son, “What do you mean? What happened?”

Jaesung began to explain to his father about what had happened to Jaemi.

“Don’t you think it’s time?” Jaesung suggested.

Kijoon nodded in agreement, “It probably is.”

The group had agreed on meeting each other in front of the school, but after the incident, Jaemi didn’t show up to her last class. The three stood in front of the school waiting for Jaemi to come, but after 15 long minutes of waiting, the boys declared that Jaemi wasn’t going to show up. Knowing the truth, Jieun still told the boys to wait five more minutes.

“You know she’s not going to come,” L.Joe said to Jieun.

Jieun let out a huge sigh and turned back to face him, “Alright, let’s go then.”

They began to walk home.

For 20 minutes, Jaemi stood behind the school gates deciding on what to do. She took another glance and saw her group heading towards her as they were about to leave. Not wanting to face anyone, the first thing Jaemi thought of was to run. After thinking she ran down two blocks, she turned back to realized that she had ran down six blocks instead. Jaemi touched the side of her head as she turned around in confusion. Not knowing what to do, she continued to run until she reached a public bathroom nearby. She quickly washed her face and stood by the sink as she panted extremely hard; not from exhaustion but from confusion. She closed her eyes and began to calm down a little. After a few seconds, she lifted her head up to look at herself in mirror. Jaemi jumped back in complete shock as she saw her eyes turn bright blue for the first time. She blinked a few times and began walking closer to the mirror. As she got close enough, she noticed a hint of blue shining from her right ear. She carefully lifted the right side of her hair to see her neck also glowing.

“AHHHH, MONSTER!” a little girl shrieked when she saw Jaemi.

Jaemi quickly rushed out of the bathroom and ran back home.

It was midnight and Jaemi didn’t want to wake anyone up from their sleep. She slowly opened the door and tiptoed up the stairs.

“Ahem,” Kijoon coughed as he the lights, “Where have you been?”

“Appa…” Jaemi began, “I don’t know what’s going on with me…”

Kijoon looked at Jaemi.

“Go to sleep, it’s getting late,” he said walking back to his bedroom, “Also, don’t go to school tomorrow, I need to take you somewhere.”

Jaemi nodded and watched her father as he walked back into his room, leaving her alone.

It was 10 in the morning, and Jaemi felt better compared to the day before. She got ready and went downstairs to see her father cooking breakfast. Kijoon placed the 2 breakfast plates on the dining table and looked up to see Jaemi.

“Oh, just in time,” Kijoon said, “Come and eat breakfast before we leave.”

Not saying a word, Jaemi sat down and began eating her breakfast. While eating, she couldn’t help but look up at her father several times while he was reading the newspaper.

“If you want to say something, say it,” Kijoon said without taking his eyes off the newspaper, “You don’t have to look at me like that,” he said smiling.

Shocked, Jaemi began to stutter, “Oh, um… where are we going?”

“You will see when we get there,” Kijoon replied.

Jaemi nodded and continued to eat her breakfast.

The bell rang and everyone ran to class.

“Good morning everyone. How are you this fine morning?” the teacher said, walking in all enthusiastically, “Everyone seems to be here today… except for... Jaemi. Gu Jaemi, are you here? Hm, how peculiar, her family didn’t even call the school. Does anyone know where she is?”

Half the class began whispering and talking about what had happen the day before, while other students were talking about what she probably did.

“I bet she ran away from embarrassment,” a student giggled along with her friends.

Jieun shot a glare at them, and the girls went silent.

While the other students were whispering to one another, Kai couldn’t help but stare at the empty seat that belonged to Jaemi. Where is she? Kai thought.

However, Kai was not the only one who was worried. L.Joe was too.

While sitting in the car, Jaemi began to recap the scenario the day before. She was so confused but she was too afraid to tell or ask her father about it.

Kijoon slowly stopped as he reached a red traffic light. While looking outside the window, Jaemi saw a woman on the sidewalk facing her way. The light turned green and Kijoon continued to drive. Not taking her eyes off the woman, Jaemi eyed her until her father called her.

“What are you looking at?” Kijoon asked.

Jaemi quickly turned towards him, “Huh? Oh, nothing. I thought I saw something familiar.”

She turned back to see the women no longer there.
