Chapter 17

CNBLUEs music show appearance and album promotion already ceased giving him more free time at home, lounging around, sleeping late or having the boys over just to pester each other. More free time also means more time with Joohyun which is always the best part of his day.

One evening

“Hon, I think I heard your phone, I’ll go check it” Joohyun stood up from the sofa and was about to head to their room when Yonghwa beat her to it

“I’ll get it!” he gets his phone and went to the study room then closed the door

Joohyun looked at the closed room a bit then went back to watching her favorite series shrugging it off.

The next day…

The two were still sleeping when Yongs phone vibrated and made noise. Joohyuns head was on his arms while her arm is across his torso making it difficult for him to answer his phone, if he answers it, it will definitely wake her up. He thought about it for a second then abruptly stood up grabbed his phone and  went to the study room. Joohyun still half asleep sat up bewildered. She stood up and was about to open the music room when she heard his voice. She pressed her ears to the door to listen more clearly

“Okay, I’ll call you. She might wake up any moment so wait for my call okay?.. take care”

When he came out of the room Joohyun was already standing with her arms crossed on her chest

“Who was that?” raising one of her eyebrows

“No one”  he looked down and shuffled his feet

“No one? This early morning no one? It’s 6 in the morning and someone is calling you no one?”

“It was just Jonghyun” he looked at her

“Right! Jonghyun! The dude who can sleep through world war 3 is suddenly calling you at 6 in the morning and may I ask why?”

“He can’t sleep? Ah I’ll make you breakfast! My baby needs energy for school!” he strode pass her without even looking at her

She smells something nasty but can’t seem to catch the drift. She headed to school without thinking much about it leaving Yonghwa to housework

He was busy doing the laundry when he received a message

Is she there? – unknown number

No are you at home? – Yonghwa

“Yup” – unknown number

Okay I’ll call you – Yonghwa

“Yah I almost got caught this morning! You should’ve seen her face! I was about to get annihilated! I thought I was never gonna see the rising sun again!” he looked at the person on the video call

“I’m sorry I’m not good with math and you said to call you as soon as I get home and I did!”

“I know so what happened?”

“I don’t know if I should be telling you stuff like these” the person on the other end looked at him shyly

“Come on we started this we have to see this through!”

“OH Uncle Yong! I chickened out!” Maki half shouting half whispering while looking at the door. Any minute his sister could barge in and may find him talking to Yong and might tell their mom.

“What?! Why?! I told you man up!”

“I know but when I was about to ask her out, a  junior walked up to us and talked to her”

“So?! You should’ve stood rooted!”

“I did, but they excuse themselves and walked off” the boy answered messing up his hair in disappointment

“Do you have school fairs and stuff like that? Try singing to her in front of the whole school! That’d be so cool and romantic!”

“you’re making me laugh, the only thing I’m good at is sports and that’s it. I’d probably grow old wearing jersey shorts and old baseball shirt while drinking beer sitting on the sofa ALONE! “ the kid looked at him mortified for some reason he imagined it and mirrored the look of the boys face which doubled the panic in Maki.

“No! that won’t happen! I’d rather die than see my son drink on the sofa with jersey shorts and baseball shirt ALONE!” he stated with conviction

When suddenly the door of the music room open revealing a non smiling Joohyun

“Who’s that?”

He looked at the screen who was showing Maki’s shocked face. He then closed the laptop

“I ah.." he thought a bit for a moment "was just checking my old videos” he smiled

“You’re being weird! Make sure you don’t get caught fooling around or else!” Joohyun held out her fist to his face, turned around and marched to their room. He closed the door then opened the laptop

“You are one confident but conceited guy Uncle Yong!” the kid laughed on the other end “seriously watching your own video? How narcissistic can you get?!”

“Hey this is all confidence kid! I’ll think about what to do next and I’ll call you right back! Your mom might see the unfinished laundry”

“Oh busted!! Alright see yah!”

Joohyun went out to buy some groceries for dinner while Yonghwa finished the last load of laundry. He was folding their clothes when he received a message

“I need help urgent!”

He opened his Skype on his phone when a call came in

“Where are you?”
