As a young child, Minseok was very intelligent.

It was probably the reason why she managed to catch Jongdae’s eye. She remembered the cat-like man whining to his husband about wanting to take her home right away. The smaller one of the two sighs and scolded him from his behavior, but he’s willing to take little Minseok, not right away, but soon when the paperworks about her adoption is all settled.

That didn’t take long and Minseok found herself living the happy life with her parents.

She wasn’t very social, but kids flock her immediately the minute she stepped foot inside the classroom, thus making her one of the popular kids in school. But despite that, she still prefers to be alone and likes to read by herself with those big thin books the preparatory prepared in the bookshelves for the children.

“Do you ever wonder about Minseok?”

Jongdae raised his brows, a toast trapped in his mouth. He took it before answering. “What about Minseokkie?”

“Do you think she’s…” Joonmyun paused for a bit. “She’s lonely? I never saw her interacting with the kids when I get her from school yesterday. It worries me, Dae. What if the kids at school are bothering her?”

“Lonely?” Jongdae hums and leans a bit from his chair to look at his daughter playing with her dollhouse on the living room. He chuckles and reverts back. “And I’m telling you, she’s not. Look at her. She’s completely happy playing alone.”

“That’s what worries me.”

Jongdae sighed and places his cup of coffee down, flashing a warm and loving smile at his husband. “How about we set that aside for a moment and get out of the house for a change, hmm?” He stood up before his husband could answer and stretches his arms. “Minseok-ah? My Princess?” He calls out. Immediately, Minseok came running up towards him.

“Yes, Appa?”

Jongdae crouches so he’s at the same level as the child. “Do you want to go out with Appa and Umma? It’s been so long since we’ve gone out and I really miss hanging out with my girl.” Jongdae curled his lower lip into a pout. Seeing this, Joonmyun can’t help but giggle.

“Out?” Minseok beams. “Let’s go out!”

With her legs dangling from Jongdae’s shoulders, Minseok flashes her gummy smile to the things that feeds her amusement, bouncing excitedly no matter how many times Joonmyun scolded her about doing so.

Passing by the pet shop, Minseok looks at the adorable puppy pawing on the glass, his eyes trained on her as if they’re begging to be adopted. Now this puppy isn’t just an ordinary puppy. They’re dog hybrids, part human and part dog. Unlike orphaned kids, orphaned hybrids were placed on local pet shops run by the government while some practically lived there so they ended up raising a family inside the shop. Nevertheless, once a human bought them, they’re now considered family and is obligated to live away from their original family.

So going back to little puppy, Minseok tilts her head in amusement at the sight of the little puppy with that smile plastered on his face, his tongue sticking out like he’s happy. Minseok was about to pester her Umma for getting that puppy for her, that was until she spotted a little kitty hybrid all curled up at the very corner, mouth slightly parted as he sleeps.

Minseok’s movements cease and she found herself staring at him in wonder.

She wants that kitty. She really does and her resolve is firm. There’s no problem with Appa, but Umma… Minseok hums and frowns.

She made sure to let them pass by the pet shop every time Joonmyun and her decided to walk back home from school making her catch even a passing glimpse on the kitty. One time, she even managed to see her teacher, Kyungsoo, walking out of the shop with the same puppy hybrid in his arms. The puppy kept his face over and over and though she knows her oppa has a bit of a problem regarding cleanliness and hygiene, he doesn’t mind. Minseok even heard her Umma mutter an “It’s a miracle” under his breath at the sight.

Minseok was really happy for the puppy, but somewhat she felt sad that little kitty is now alone on his cage, staring at his friend as the puppy was taken away by Mr. Do, his new owner. Seeing that only made her strengthen her resolve. But then Umma…Minseok sighs. Umma might not agree today. Maybe next time.

But that next time came sooner than she thought.

Upon hearing Kyungsoo tell about a story of a woman raising a baby and ended up marrying him at the very end (the content was originally explicit and Kyungsoo doesn’t want to read it to them but then the children was on the verge of crying because it’s either reading them that book or nothing so he just made up the most of the scenes by adding dragons and unicorns somewhere in between) Minseok decided that yes, today is the day.

So with a tight grip on her Umma’s wrist, she pulled him towards the shop and latched her arms around the surprised kitty. “Mommy, I want this one!”

Joonmyun doesn’t want to, honestly, because it might add to his list of cleaning up in the house. Unfortunately, Jongdae, being a er to his daughter’s whims, backed up Minseok’s decision, thus, ended up with them formally adopting the kitty hybrid, Luhan, into their family.

Present time:

“You can’t, Minseok.” Joonmyun frowns at her 19 year old daughter. “It’s too risky and you know it.”

“Why not?” Minseok frowns. “Kyungsoo-oppa does it. You two are close friends and you know that he’s ing Baekhyun during the pup’s heat. Why can’t I be with Luhan during his heat?”

Joonmyun was about to answer but then he spotted his husband marking something on the calendar. “What are you doing, Dae?”

“We’re going to Bahamas, love.” Jongdae beams. “You and me, the warm sun…” He wiggles his brows. “You and me all alone~”

“Oh?” Joonmyun blinks twice. “When?”

“Next Tuesday.”

Joonmyun furrows his brows. “But isn’t that the first day of Luhan’s heat?”

Jongdae grins. “Exactly.”
