Longing for the Past

After a few hours on the road back to their own house, Kai parked his car, his lips pursed in annoyance. Not mainly because of the long drive, but the girl for whom he settled the surprise, quickly fell into a deep sleep, leaving him completely alone with his thoughts. Even though watching his wife’s face—which usually contorted in pout, anger or smirk—in peace was tempting, it was no fun driving by himself. There was one or two question he wanted to ask that he should've asked on the dinner but failed to do so. Not to dismiss the fact that he was also tired that even he could be asleep on the road too. Shouldn't Haeri be more considerative? Sigh.

“Now I have to carry her, and sleep on the couch. Nope, the last one is not going to happen.” Kai darkly mumbled, positioning himself to carry her. After taking a deep breath, Kai lightly carried her inside their temple.

While advancing the stairs, Kai realized that the burden on his arms was getting heavier. “Hey, hey! Whoa!”

Kai almost lost his balance before his left feet sturdily held them from falling. Haeri popped her eye open, smiling to her heart content while circling her arms on his neck. “Waaah, my husband is so strong~”

A sudden annoyance brushed inside Kai’s chest, then he let go of carrying her. No way I would do that anymore. But due to the shock, Haeri didn’t let go of her grasp on his neck as both of them fall on top of each other.

And just like the morning dramas , time did stop for only the two of them, looking each other through the orbs on their eyes. Even though Kai’s reflex was fast enough that he wasn’t putting his whole weight on her, he refused to do what his sanity expect him to do and just leap into what his heart wanted to do.

But Haeri was too embarassed that she immediately pushed Kai’s chest with her whole gut, and her effort went to vain due to the latter’s strength which was way out of her league. Realizing that she couldn’t take the embarassment anymore, she strongly closed her eyes. Kai's eyes had given her so many incoherent sense and Haeri could take it no more. The tidal wave of heat washing all over her face, embelishing her cheek with blushes.

“Get off!” Haeri—with all of her available ability—was able to say something coherent. But Kai smirked, wasting the small proximity between their face. Haeri could feel that her heartbeat was ready to give up.

Kai held a deep breath before blowing it on her lips.

“Should.. Should I have you tonight?”

*

“I can’t believe my majestic-like face could turn this bad.” Kai deeply frowned, observing the visible red bump on his left cheek on the mirror. , he looked like an ugly gollum. He quickly shot Haeri a glare.  “And all due to your bufallo-like personality.”

“It’s your fault! How can you say something like that to a girl with no hesitation.  Are you out of your mind?!” Haeri shyly fought back, discouraged and at fault with his husband's appearance. She didn’t know what happened inside her chest, but it was clearly out of her sense that she instinctively punched her husband half hour ago. She didn’t even know she had that amount of strength within her.

“You really—“ Kai hissed, walking towards their bed with a frown. “Not like it’s forbidden. You and I are husband and wife by law, I have any rights to say so.”

“But still I have all right to say no!” Haeri hard-headedly fought back. She refused to step back and let Kai win the argument.

Kai heavily sighed, placing his on their king-sized bed. “I am too tired to even argue with a bufallo like you. I am tired, and this bump is already killing me. I’m going to sleep.”

He was ready to lie on the bed, before Haeri’s voice interrupt his half state of mind. “But, where do I sleep?”

“I don’t care. You punched me, I am sleeping here.”

“But it’s not fair! How can you—“

Kai, agilely pulled her to their bed when she was still on the middle of her sentence. He had enough of her witty remarks, and all he needed was some peace and sleep. Before she even put her guards up, Kai cunningly draped his arms around her.

“Sleep, before I really do it.” Kai closed his eyes and hers—with his fingers—then whispered on her ear as he seized her small frame inside his arms. And Kai was too smart to let Haeri’s arms free as they were also captured with no room for another punch.

Haeri struggled inside his arms, trying to break free with a flaming cheek at the feel of their skin touching against each other. But somehow, even in his sleep, his strength was undefeatable for such a weakling like her. Especially becaue of the her energy had already drained, Haeri decided to turn off her defense and released the tense on her body.

Somehow, her calmed state once again on burn as her eyes met Kai’s sleeping face. It was the first time he had this close proximity with a guy—on a bed—and somehow, all she could see was Kai and Kai only. She was toxicated by the breathtaking view. To take it to another level, Kai’s sleeping face was one thing that made her believe that angels really exist. The dangerous aura of Kai was none detected, rather unbothered and harmless. How she wished that she could capture the view onto a piece of paper that she could remember forever.

“How can this angelic face turned so devilish, huh?” Haeri unconciously mumbled—feeling the unfamiliar urge to kiss his eyelids—when suddenly Kai’s closed eye was wide opened, his lips turned into a pout.

“You are so noisy. Do I really have to kiss you so you can shut up?" Kai held her even close,r that her head was resting on the crook of his neck. Haeri closed her eyes in satisfaction, enjoying the friendly heat sent rom his skin to hers, enjoying the heartbeat that started to fasten its pace inside her chest.

“You’re awake? I thought you are asleep.” Haeri asked bashfully at the thought of being caught staring by the man whose embrace she was in. When Kai let loose his arm to look her by the eyes, she suddenly felt a little... empty?

“I have the least intention of letting you go, if you’re waiting for that.” Kai smirked with his eyebrows wriggling. Haeri hissed, shifting her view elsewhere. Idiot.

“You’re lucky my fist is unavailable. I would love to give that bump a friend.” Haeri warned with her eyes rolled. Kai chuckled at her unharmful warnings, his fingers affectionately brushed the fringe off her sight. Her cheek was slightly flushed, her eyebrows were pursed, her lips pouting cutely, how could he be angry at her?

A few moments of silence—which was oddly comforting—before Kai broke it with a question. “Luhan will be married tomorrow. Are you really okay with that?” Kai softly whispered with a little bit of hesitation, worriness and sorrow mixed inside the words that was already on the air. It had been on his mind since forever—and the question he was going to ask before, on the dinner or at the car—
