Chapter Thirty

Can't Be Tamed

Sunday…MyungSoo woke up with a weird feeling. He slowly blinked his eyes open to get back from the world and stared at the ceiling, rubbing absent-minded his chest. He rarely had this going on where he thought something was about to happen (he couldn’t really tell if it was something good nor bad).

DongWoo’s mother asked him - after they had breakfast and MyungSoo was laying in the couch -  to go grocery shopping with her.  He agreed as DongWoo had been in a bad mood for some reason – he only came inside to eat when they were almost done, not saying a word, immediately retreating back to his bedroom when breakfast was over -MyungSoo decided to ask him what was wrong after he came back from shopping.

Buying food with DongWoo’s mom was a nice spare time, she made him laugh with silly thngs, bought him lunch, asked his advice/discussed with him about food and his choice for DongWoo’s clothes. Afterwards she gave him money and told him to buy himself some clothes – he declined but she insisted.  Now he had new black clothes to wear.

When they came home, DongWoo was in the couch, eyes glued to the television with a - what MyungSoo could imagine - thundercloud above his head. MyungSoo first put everything down in the kitchen, helped to unpack and then headed to the living-room.

“What’s wrong, hyung?” MyungSoo asked. The older let out a deep sigh, switching between channels but not really paying attention to it. “Hoya,” he only said and in that one word MyungSoo kind of understood the situation.

They headed to DongWoo’s room to talk more privately where DongWoo told the younger everything what happened – not much. DongWoo was a confused guy.

“Can’t you just tell him?” MyungSoo suggested. Frantically the oldest shook his head without giving an explanation yet MyungSoo kind of knew what his hyung was thinking.

“It’s just…” DongWoo let out a deep sigh and fell down on his mattress. “I know he isn’t into guys, but he spends an awful lot of time with InGuk. This morning also, we were chatting when he had to stop because InGuk was there…” MyungSoo put his arm around DongWoo’s shoulder to comfort him, seeing how sad the other was. DongWoo gave him a thankful smile in return and coughed, trying to compose his self again. “But let’s stop thinking about my miserable doomed love, how are you doing with SungYeol?”

MyungSoo started smiling brightly, telling DongWoo with twinkling eyes and all enthusiastically what happened yesterday. DongWoo listening with much interest. “You two are so into each other,” he teased the younger who started blushing and punched DongWoo as response, walking out of the latter’s room. He silently hoped the other was right yet the minute he had mentioned SungYeol, the uneasy feeling from this morning settled down his heart again. He tried to shrug it off and went to his “own bedroom” only to knock on DongWoo’s door some minutes later.

“Hyung,” MyungSoo came walking inside, seeing DongWoo browsing on the internet.  Hmm, what is it?” DongWoo mumbled without looking back from his screen. “Can I borrow your phone?” DongWoo nodded and took out his phone, handing it over to MyungSoo without asking more.

“ Thanks,” MyungSoo bowed slightly and sat down on DongWoo’s bed, typing a casual message to SungYeol. “Hey, it’s MyungSoo” he stopped and thought what to send.

’ Asking how he was doing would be the most natural way, right?’ He nodded to himself, continuing with typing “How are you doing?” He hit send and waited for a message that…never came.

“SungYeol isn’t answering,” MyungSoo frowned after couple of minutes waiting, he wasn’t used to SungYeol not immediately replying him.

DongWoo turned around a little confused what the other talked about. “What?” He asked MyungSoo who kept frowning. “SungYeol isn’t answering my message,” MyungSoo explained. The older couldn’t help but laugh. “Isn’t he and his mom cleaning every Sunday? That’s what he once complained about…” DongWoo turned his attention to the computer again. “Don’t worry, he’ll answer later, it’s you, of course he’ll answer.” DongWoo added with a grin.

MyungSoo sighed and got up from the bed when he saw how late it was. “I guess…tell me when he replies, I’m going to make myself ready for work.” DongWoo nodded and MyungSoo left the room to get ready for work.

-

The whole evening at work MyungSoo couldn’t really focus, he had a feeling something happened to SungYeol but that would be ridiculous because SungYeol was grounded and wasn’t allowed to leave the house.

-

‘Did he reply?’ MyungSoo rushed, after work was over, to the house but then he realized it was in the middle of the night and DongWoo was sleeping. He hesitated to go in DongWoo’s bedroom, grab the other’s phone to see if SungYeol had replied yet he didn’t want to barge in DongWoo’s room and interrupt his sleep. He let out a deep sigh and retreated back to the bedroom, .

-

“Where’s SungYeol?” MyungSoo looked surprised around the next day, watching all the kids from his class strolling inside, taking place on their seats except the seat next to him which stayed empty.

MyungSoo and DongWoo shared occasionally glances to the empty seat, both now not so sure everything was fine with the other. The feeling they both had only got very fast confirmed when they heard a person yelling outside the classroom, followed by the headmaster rushing inside, looking behind him but when he saw he was alone, he sighed relieved before looking at the teacher.

“Teacher, I’m sorry to interrupt but I need to take mister Jang DongWoo and mister Kim MyungSoo with me.” DongWoo and MyungSoo looked at each other stunned but then got up to follow the principal outside, there seeing a person he didn’t know but apparently she did know him as she shot daggers at him.

“Where is my son!” She started screaming and wanted to attack MyungSoo but thankfully policemen who came with her held her back. “Easy Mrs Lee. ” MyungSoo blinked, staring shocked at the woman, understanding it was SungYeol’s mother. He couldn’t follow this situation at all but the fact that SungYeol’s mom asked  where SungYeol was…his heart ached.

“Let’s get mister Lee so we can have a private talk,” one of the policemen said, looking sternly. The principal nodded, walking towards another classroom, DongWoo and MyungSoo following without having a clue. They got even more confused when the principal came outside with Hoya and they all had to follow into the principal’s office.

-

From there on they each had to talk privately to the policemen, the other two waiting for their turn. MyungSoo was the last one and waited, seeing nothing that could help him on Hoya’s face nor DongWoo’s face who passed him fast, only whispering “Good luck”

“Come in mister Kim.” A voice boomed. MyungSoo headed in the room, seeing SungYeol’s mother sitting down next to the guy who supposedly would ask him questions.

“He knows where my son is, I’m sure!” She pointed accusingly to MyungSoo. The officer sighed (probably for the nth time this hour). “Mrs. Lee, please remain calm otherwise we won’t let you stay.” He told her with a sigh, she didn’t respond.

He walked outside after half  an hour. He had been the longest inside, the officer more than once holding back SungYeol’s mom. He was shocked and sat down on a bench, staring in front of him. ‘What things did SungYeol got himself into?’

“He emptied his whole saving account…”
“He never disobeyed me before…”
“You are such a bad influence and now he’s gone…”

MyungSoo needed now more than ever contact SungYeol.

“Keep trying, hyung!” MyungSoo whined, pushing the phone back in DongWoo’s hands.

DongWoo sighed and tried to call SungYeol for the twentieth time this evening but to no avail: SungYeol’s phone was turned off.

The whole week they didn’t hear anything from the runaway-boy until DongWoo got a call from an unknown number on Friday.

“SungYeol!” DongWoo shouted surprised after he said his formal greeting. MyungSoo who was watching television (he took an evening off from work) grabbed the phone out of DongWoo’s hands after he heard it was SungYeol and ran to his room before the other could take the phone back.

“Where are you idiot!” He shouted. SungYeol was silent for a second. “MyungSoo?” MyungSoo nodded and SungYeol let out a sigh. “I don’t have much time, I need to speak to DongWoo.”

“Can’t you tell me?” MyungSoo asked softly and again it was quiet on the other side. “SungYeol?” MyungSoo spoke, desperate to hear the other more.

“I’m sorry MyungSoo…just…” He heard the other sigh. “…please give me DongWoo-hyung.”

MyungSoo was hurt but he still got up to unlock the door handing the phone over to DongWoo who had been waiting outside. “He wants to talk to you,” he pushed the device angrily  in DongWoo’s hands and then slammed the door close in the other’s face...
