(C) ALTERNATE ENDING PART VIII

That Girl, Which Boy?

You arrived at the train station with just enough time to see Kyungsoo slip through the ticketing barrier and jump on a train. Sighing, you pulled out your wallet and made your way to the ticket machines, blinking in confusion when you were faced with numerous buttons that all did different things. Kyungsoo had been the one to buy the tickets before and here you were, standing like a wet dishcloth, not knowing what the hell to do.

"Excuse me," you said, walking towards someone who looked like they worked at the station, "could you tell me how to get to Gapyeong station?"

"Gapyeong?"

"Please."

"You're not chasing a boy by any chance, are you?"

You blushed, "can I please just have a ticket? It's kind of urgent."

The man at the counter laughed, printing out your paper slip and handed it to you. "You're getting the ITX Cheongchun line to Gapyeong station. The next train leaves in half an hour."

You groaned, biting your lip as you checked the clock in the middle of the station. Kyungsoo would get to Gapyeong half an hour before you. If he was going to Nami Island to pick up some flowers for his mom as usual then it wouldn't be a problem. By the time Kyungsoo got back, you'd have arrived at Gapyeong to follow him and not get lost.

After half an hour had passed, the train finally pulled up to the station and you hopped on, taking your seat in the quiet carriage as you had done before. It felt a little strange sitting in the table seats with no one opposite you. Kyungsoo wasn't there to occasionally smile at you or tickle you under the table with his feet and now, thinking about it, it was something you really missed. It was true, the saying- you never know what you have until it's not there anymore. Now without Kyungsoo on the train with you, you felt a little lonely.

The only true quiet time you'd ever had since coming to Korea was when you were in the bathroom. Even when you were in the library, Suho or Lay would sit with you and you'd all work together. And now on the train, when you were bored with staring out of the window as you rushed past the busy citylife, you closed your eyes to have what you deserved and what you probably needed too- time to think, time to yourself.

"What if he gets angry that I've followed him?..." you said, "God, what am I doing?"

You rested your elbows on the table and your head in your hands, your fingers moving to massage your temples.

"Calm down, it's fine. You deserve it if he yells at you, okay?"

Sighing, you laid your head to rest on the smooth table-top surface and listened to the sound of the wheels on the tracks, taking you closer and closer to the end.

As the station came into view and the train pulled up to the platform, you grabbed your things and ran to the door, hurtling out as fast as you could. You were disorientated at first, trying to remember the exact route Kyungsoo had taken you on but after asking a lady handing out leaflets for the ferry to Nami Island if she had seen a boy in a pale blue shirt recently, she gave you directions to the path you needed and pointed you in the direction Kyungsoo had taken.

To be fair, there could have been many boys in pale blue shirts that day but you started up the path which seemed to be more tiring this time round compared to that of before. The path took a turn that you didn't quite remember but you followed it anyway, reassured when you saw that it had begun to run alongside a stream. The air cooled and you tried to massage your neck as you carried on climbling higher and higher towards the waterfall, hoping that the trees and greenery you were seeing now were the trees and greenery you'd seen before.

You eventually came to a clearing that looked familiar and hearing the sound of a few kids playing and splashing about in water, you began to run in the direction of the noises. After a little over a minute, the dirt track beneath your feet began to grow and spread into grass and fog combined with the loud crashing sound of the waterfall let you know exactly where you were- Yongchu Falls. You spotted Kyungsoo's bag laid out by the side, a towel neatly placed over it along with his shirt and jumper which had been thrown to the side presumebly when he was considerably deep into the water.

Taking off your shoes and leaving your bag next to his, you began wading into the ice cold water, cursing when it came up to your knees. Through the mist, you could hardly see anything but you walked through, hoping that you were heading in the right direction. Eventually you had crossed over to the other side of the stream and you composed yourself for the next task- walking behind the damn waterfall. Kyungsoo had made it look easy and the memory of the last time you'd come was still fresh in your mind. Taking a deep breath, you took a step forwards hoping that this time round you wouldn't slip. Thankfully, you managed to stabilise yourself on the slippery rocks, gently manouvering your feet over them and gliding further and further into the waterfall. It al seemed to be going well until suddenly, there was a screech from the child playing in the water from before and you whipped your head around, startled by the scream. The sudden movement caused the rock you were standing on to give way, tumbling down and lodging itself elsewhere and you fell down with it into the water.

The cold wrapped itself around you and you kicked with your eyes shut, trying to stand back up or at least find something to grip. You thrashed about, screaming whenever your head came up in the air for that split second before the force of the water sent you plunging straight back down. The idea of hitting your head on the rocks beneath you was the scariest and you continued to wave your limbs about in a frenzy until you felt a pair of arms snake around your waist and pull you up.

You coughed and spluttered, frantically wiping the water away from your face with your hands so that you could open your eyes and Kyungsoo who was holding you slipped again, losing his footing and falling forwards on top of you. He tried his hardest not to crush you beneath his weight by placing his hands and knees on the smooth rocks below him but he winced anyway, sure that his knees would bruise from the force. You screamed again, this time crying because you were so sure you'd hurt him but he managed to stand up and pull you out, holding you like the big baby you were until you calmed down.

"Haneul?"

In between sobs, you managed to squeak a reply. "H-Hi..."

"For someone so talented in water, you really are a clutz," Kyungsoo said. "What are you doing here?"

"I-I... Are you mad with me?"

You were shivering and Kyungsoo sighed, pulling you close to hug you so you wouldn't catch your death.

"No, I'm not. But tell me why you're here. Why did you follow me?"

Inside, Kyungsoo was beaming. Kai's plan had worked and here you were, in his arms, exactly where he wanted you to be.

"I know this is a really important place to you and you probably don't want me to be here right now-... You're just saying you're not angry because you're trying to be nice... I just wanted to-... This was the only place I could think of... What I wanted to tell you was-..."

You pushed yourself away from him and Kyungsoo released you, slightly taken aback.

"What I'm trying to say is that I..." You were slowly moving away from him, ready to run if it Kyungsoo had moved on already. "I-I..." You sighed, "I like y- woah!"

As you felt yourself submerge under the water, you couldn't help but be glad to feel the familiar coolness calm down your flaming cheeks. Again, seeing you struggling to get up and stopping himself from laughing too much, Kyungsoo bent down and swept you up into his arm, hauling you out of the water as you spluttered and placing you on the rock ledge beside his bouquet to sit on. Plucking a flower, he placed it behind your ear and sighed, acting as if he was annoyed.

"K-Kyungsoo..." you said. You weren't sure if he'd heard you confess the first time so you had decided you'd risk it again. "I'm sorry... for leaving it so long to tell you this-"

"Haneul," Kyungsoo said, glaring at you as you shifted about uneasily where you were sat, "just sit there and stay still, okay?"

You thought you could detect a hint of annoyance in his voice and you bit your tongue immediately, feeling awful for coming and invading his precious place. Kyungsoo turned his back away from you, facing the gushing water and you could see his shoulders and back move as his chest rose and fell with every breath he took.

Was he really angry at you? Were you just a nuisance to him now?

"Wait-... Kyungsoo, wait-" you reached out to him and he turned his head to snap back at you.

"What part of stay still don't you understand? Just sit there or else you'll get into some more mess and drown yourself."

Your heart fell. This was it. This was the rejection you deserved. This was-

"I can't have my girlfriend drowning and dying on me now, can I?"

It took you a few seconds to register what was going on. Was this thumping the sound of your heart or the sound of 10 tonnes of water crashing down a waterfall? Did you really hear right? Did he really say... girlfriend? Without realising it, you were now face to face with Kyungsoo and he had something of a coy smile on his face. His hair was wet and stuck to his head but he ran his fingers through it, slightly raising an eyebrow at you as he did so.

"Y-You... What did you call me? You heard me?"

Kyungsoo nodded, leaning forwards and placing his hands on your hips and you gulped.

"And even though it took me this long... You really don't hate me?"

Kyungsoo shook his head.

"You still like me?"

Another nod.

"I-I..."

You were rendered speechless. Half of you didn't know what was going on, your mind was in a frenzy and you couldn't feel your toes anymore. Was this actually happening? Kyungsoo and you- it was real. Finally, it was real.

"Don't believe me?" Kyungsoo's voice was low. "Shall I prove it?"

His right hand that held your hip moved behind you and he pulled your body forwards. You slid easily towards him and he swiftly captured you in a kiss, holding your hands to warm them. When he moved to pull away, you fought to keep him on your lips, freeing your hands from his grasp and tangling them in his hair to keep him close. You kissed him with everything you had, the raw emotions suppressed from when he was dating Shinyeong flowing out like you couldn't control them and all you could think about was Kyungsoo and the way he had waited and waited for you, just as you had waited and eventually forgotten about him.

Just as the last bit of air left your lungs, you pulled away and Kyungsoo held your hands again, this time smiling at you with bright and round eyes. During the kiss, the flower had fallen out as your wet hair had become too heavy and fallen across your face so he carefully moved your hair behind your ear again, dragging his fingertips towards your chin and then up to your lips.

"Our second kiss..." you said quietly, trying not to smile too much.

"Second?" Kyungsoo asked playfully, "are you sure it's the second?"

You thought for a moment, your eyes widening in realisation and your mouth opening to gasp when Kyungsoo leant in again and kissed you once more on the lips. You automatically shut your eyes and took the time to enjoy it but inside, your mind was still racing. Realising what he was doing, you pushed his chest slightly and he chuckled as his lips broke contact with yours.

"Y-You knew?"

"That you stayed to look after me? Baekhyun told me last night." Your jaw dropped and Kyungsoo used his index and middle finger to bring it back up. "I'm sorry. I didn't realise it was you. I really am sorry. I thought that if I was cold, it'd be easier for you to reject me."

"You're a royal idiot."

"You kissed me too though, didn't you?" Kyungsoo smirked, "That was our second kiss. It was after you stripped me and changed my shirt, wasn't it?"

He was looking at you as if you were some sort of ert and you crossed your arms. "Suho told me to! And you stank! It was for your own good."

"Did you like what you saw?" Kyungsoo said, teasing you again.

"No." You said, bluntly, trying to get him off your back, "you were sweaty and... and Chanyeol's abs are better."

With a look that said 'I don't believe you, you big fat liar', Kyungsoo wrapped his arms around your waist, lifting you off the ledge as you wrapped your legs around him.

"Chanyeol's better, is he?" You nodded, your head resting in the crook of his shoulder. "I guess I'll have to make you change your mind."

You shook your head as your legs slipped down. Kyungsoo still held you and you planted your feet onto the ground, steadying yourself with his help. "You're fine as you are."

"I'm not dreaming, am I?"

You felt his grip tighten around you. "Why would you be?"

"Because you're here with me and my mom and I love you and-"

Reaching up, you pecked him on the cheek and he blinked at you as you giggled sheepishly. It was weird to think that Kyungsoo could bring out this side of you. Since coming to Korea, everything had been so dramatic and fast-paced. But here with Kyungsoo holding you close to him, everything was slow. Everything was peaceful and everything was calm.

It didn't matter to you what Kyungsoo had done in the past with Shinyeong. It didn't matter that he thought he was to blame for hurting you either. All that mattered was that although there was still so much wrong in your life, there was one thing that was right- and it was that Kyungsoo would always be by your side.

Just as Lay had told you, through thick and thin, there would always be the 13 of you.

And with that one right, you weren't scared of what troubles the future would hold for you. You'd lost your family and everything, but although Kyungsoo would never be able to replace that, deep down you knew that little by little, he was filling up that void in your heart and leaving you wanting more.
