My Present's Past
March 7, 1850

I didn’t tell Lia what the duke told me. Lia knew that I just had a little chit chat with the duke and that’s all. I let out a sighed as I went to the balcony.
“Is this the right choice, mom?”
Someone knocked on the door and it was Luna.
“Hey! Long time no see.” Luna said.
“Hey there.”
“Are you excited?” She asked.
“In what?” I asked.
“ There’s a festival happening right now. And the candidates and our future husband have to go to there. It would be fun!!” She giggled.
“See you later, Suzy.” She shouted.
That evening, we went to the town. I was amazed with the lights and colorful decorations in each houses and stores. There were a lots of foods and people were happily celebrating. As the carriage stops, all of us went down. People were looking at us.
“Woah, She’s pretty.” Someone said.
“I wish I was in her place.” The other said.
After introducing us, The duke announced that he prepared a game for his son and the candidates.
“But only three candidates can participate. The three will be partnered with my sons. To be fair, I’ll be the one who’ll choose their partners.” The duke said.
“The first pair, Yoseob and …….. Luna”
Then the crowd began shouting and cheering.
“The second pair, Hyunseung and …….. Sulli”
Then, again, they began shouting and cheering.
“And the last pair, Junhyung …and……”
Please, NOT ME, I told myself.
“SUZY.” The duke said.
Then, again, they began shouting and cheering.
Oh, what a night.
“The game is, you just have to find two silver vase with the ‘duke’ written on it. The first pair who find it wins a price.”
This is very awkward. Junhyung is my partner, I don’t know what to do. We just passed through the crowded area and we’re walking to the woods
not knowing where to go.
“W-where are we going?” I asked.
He didn’t reply to my question. He just continue to walk and I followed him. Then, he stopped in front of a big tree and sat there.
“Yaah!! W-what are you doin?” I asked again.
He didn’t reply again.
“If you don’t want to find it, then fine. I’ll search for it on my own!”
I don’t want to stay there with him doing nothing. I walked angrily away from him.
Omo~ but I don’t know this place.
As I walked deeper and deeper into the woods. The noise of the crowded area was far behind me now. I can see that moon was hiding behind the
thick clouds. Maybe I should go back before it rains…
But wait, I forgot were I entered. I’m not good in direction and I admit it, it is one of my weakness. I’m starting to feel scared. As I struggled to the
uneven ground, I tried to thinks comforting thoughts. I think its been an hour, but I’m still walking in this labyrinth.
Then it started to rain….
What a lucky night…
I continue walking through the woods. I don’t know where to go. I’m lost.
“Help!! Somebody in there?!!” I shouted.
The rain was too loud. I can’t hear anything. As I walk, I stumble on one of the rocks.
“Ouch…” There’s a big wound at my knee and it really hurts. I tried to stand up and walked again.
“Please, somebody help me.” I cried.
I saw a river. Maybe I should follow the path of the river, maybe it leads me out of the woods. The rain continue to fall, and then --- an unexpected
mistake happened. I lost my balance and fell on the river. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t breath. I immediately popped my head and in a huge gasp
of air. The water was so shockingly cold. The current was very strong. I need to grab something or else I’m going to die. I saw a bunch of big
roots a few inches away, this was my only chance…
I used my remaining energy to pull up myself. I made it!
But I think I’m going to faint right now. I was lying on roots and mud. My vision was dim. I’m so tired and numb. I tried to stand, but my whole body was
not cooperating with me. My legs were freezing. I saw a tree where I can lean on, then I sat on the wet grass. Maybe I should rest for awhile and wait
until the rain subside and wait until help could come…
…But no one knew where I was, even Lia, Yoseob, Hyunseung, nor Junhyung…
wouldn’t know…
Then, I heard someone was shouting.
“Suzy!!! Suzy!!!”
I want to shout but I don’t have anymore energy to move.
“Suzy!!!Suzy!!”
My vision was faint. I can see that someone is coming…
“J-junhyung?” then I began to cry.
It was Junhyung.I was so shocked when he hugged me. He comforts me and telling me it’s alright.
“J- Junhyung…” I said.
“Shh…It’s alright.
I cried until I was exhausted and fell asleep.
"Don’t worry, from now on, I’ll protect you.” Junhyung whispered.
March 9, 1850

I woke up and my head really hurts.
“
“N-no thanks. What happened?” I asked.
“You don’t remember?” I
nodded.
“You were sleeping for two days.”
“REALLY?!”
“Yeah, we were all worried. Everyday Luna, the duke and Yoseob visits you.”
“Wh-what happened on the festival?” I asked.
“When the rain started, the duke stopped the game, Yoseob and Luna came back first then Hyunseung and Sulli. They were really worried to
the two of you, Its been an hour ,so the duke asked the guards to search for you.”
“T-then?” I asked.
“The guards came back and told us that they’ve searched the woods but didn’t find the two of you…Then we were shocked when we saw Junhyung
carrying you. Then we immediately went home and called the doctor. Finish!”
“J-junhyung car-ried me?”
“Yeah. Hey, How does it feel?” Lia laughed
“What?”
“Junhyung never carried a girl. You are the first one.” She laughed.
“Stop it Lia!!” I shouted.
“Got you!! You’re blushing. HAHA.”
I threw a pillow to Lia. Then she threw it back to me.
“I’ll leave for awhile to tell them that you’re awake.” Then she closed the door.
I went back to my bed. Then I remembered what were the last words that Junhyung told me.
“Don’t worry, from now on, I’ll protect you.” I feel waves of heat rushing to my cheeks.
