Chapter 3
My Present's Past
February 23, 1850
[
We were startled when Sulli shouted.
“What’s the matter?” Madame asked.
“Someone stole my necklace that I bought yesterday!!!!” Sulli shouted.
“Maybe you just misplaced it.”
“No. I’m sure it was here!” .
Then Madame went down to talk to us.
“Who stole my daughter’s necklace?!!” she shouted.
No one answered.
“Can’t you understand what I said?! WHO STOLE MY DAUGHTER’S NECKLACE?! ”
“We d-don’t know Madame.” Min said.
“Be sure on what you’re saying because if I catch you. You don’t know the punishment!”
That night:

I’m about to sleep when Min told me that Sulli wants to see me. Sulli? So unusual. It was so dark at the
hallway only the lamp that gives light. But suddenly the thunder gave me goose bumps. I think it’ll rain. I already saw Sulli’s room. Then, I knocked.
“Why no one is answering. Is she asleep?”
Then it started to rain…
I knocked again but no one answered so I decided to open the door. I saw Sulli was sleeping. But Min told me that Sulli wants to see me.
Then suddenly, someone grabbed my arm. I’m so shocked!! Madam is behind me!!
“SO YOU ARE THE ONE WHO’S STEALING?!!” She shouted.
“N-No Madame, M-Min told-- ”
“Already caught but still denying it!!!”
I can’t talk. I’m so scared. Madame grabbed me outside the house.
She pushed me hard and I fell on the ground. She went inside the house and locked the door…
“Madame!! Please , Please, let me come inside!! Madame….”
It was raining hard…
I was walking but I don’t know where to go.I wanna go home. I’m so tired then I fell on the ground.
February 24, 1850

I woke up and my head really hurts. Then I heard a familiar voice.
“Are you awake?”
“Lia?” I asked.
“Yes,Do you need anything?”
“No.”
I sat up on the bed. Lia asked me on what happened last night. But I refused to talk about it. She told me that when she went home
she saw me lying at the side of the road.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Thank you, Lia.” I said
Then Lia hugged me And told me to rest.
February 27, 1850

Its been three days since it happened. I’m still in Lia’ house and I’m a lot of better now. I’m helping her doing
the house chores, I’m the one cleaning her house when she’s at the Duke’s house.
That night :
“
“Yes?”
“Do you want to work in the Duke’s Mansion?”
“Uhhmm….what?!”
“But not as a maid…”
I was confused.
“You’ll work as a CANDIDATE.”
“What!! A candidate?”
“Yeah, A candidate, the one who’s chosen by the duke who can marry his sons.”
“No! I don’t like…never!”
“
"Even though.” I replied.
Lia explained to me that one of the candidates named Suzy doesn’t want to be a candidate because she’s in love with someone else (that’s why I hate love because it will make your life miserable). And Suzy can’t refuse it because her father was the Duke’s best friend. Lia can’t say ‘no’ to her because Suzy helped her family.
“Please, You’ll just pretend to be her. Don’t worry she’ll help us.” She said.
“What if someone catch us? What about her parents?”
“No one will catch us because the Duke is not yet finished meeting the candidates And one of those is Suzy. Her parents are
dead. She’s only with her guardian.”She said.
What will I do? I can’t say ‘no’ to Lia because she helped me.
