A Cliché Family
Fiftyfour
Jinki is tired when he finally gets home from work one afternoon in September. Taemin is at his dance class, Minho is spending his time with Taeyeon and Kibum is not home yet so Jinki has the house to himself except from Roo who is currently sleeping on the couch. She's an old dog and Kibum has been talking about putting her to sleep but so far she's still healthy so they're not going to do anything right now. And without a lot of kids at home Jinki doesn't think they're going to get a new one.
He sits in the couch and relaxes for a few minutes. He still has to grade some essays for his next lecture but for now he just wants to rest a little. Kibum gets home 15 minutes later and groans.
"Tough day?" Jinki calls out from the living room and Kibum enters a few seconds later and plops down on the couch beside his husband. He looks tired, just like Jinki. Maybe they don't have as much energy as they used to when they were younger. Jinki puts his arm around Kibum's shoulder and Kibum nods a little.
"Yeah, clients were complaining constantly. I want it in turquoise, not green, it has to be this font, not that font, give me this instead of that, you're making our product look bad." He sighs heavily and leans into Jinki. "What about you?" Jinki turns to look at the other.
"I hate teaching that class," is all he says and Kibum immediately understands. It's not that the topic is hard but his students in that specific class are troublemakers all of them and the noise they produce are enough to give him a headache. He used to like teaching but now he sort of misses the hospital. He doesn't want to go back to the hospital though, he's not sure he can get used to the unstable routine. He also likes coming home at a certain time and spend the evening with his family. Kibum hums a little and gets up from the couch.
"Did you check the mail?" he asks and Jinki shakes his head no. He didn't. So the other does. There's a letter from Jonghyun and Gwiboon and Kibum brings it back to the couch where he sits down and opens it. Jonghyun and Gwiboon moved out into a smaller 2 bedroom apartment when they graduated from college.
It's not very often that they get to see the two but it's okay. They both understand that Jonghyun has to establish his own life. Inside is a small painting that is supposed to be the two of them and on the back of the painting is written 'To the proud grandfathers'. Jinki and Kibum stare at each other for a couple of seconds before they turn to look at the picture again. And there it is - at the top of the painting is a beautifully written '1 + 1 = 3'.
"Do you think..?" Kibum starts but he's interrupted by the ringt
