Yixing sighed as he sat down in front of his locked work, donned in his waterproofs as the rain poured down on him unrelentingly. He’d forgotten that Minseok was on holiday and so nobody would be in early to unlock the main door – to which he didn’t yet have a key.

Sometimes he hated not having his driving licence, meaning he had to cycle in, because unlike a car, a bike offered no protection from the rain.

Really, it wasn’t that he didn’t like using his bike to get to work, he enjoyed it, but having to do it in the rain wasn’t fun. Hell, he felt like a giant bin bag in his get-up.

He couldn’t even waste time by planning on his phone thanks to the heavy down pour.

He supposed it could have been worse – he could have been stuck in the rain without the hideous protective layer and have ended up soaked to the bone, so he had gotten off lightly when he thought about it.

He’d been sat there a good twenty minutes when the mail van showed up and out stepped the delivery guy in nothing but shorts and a polo shirt – not accounting for his socks and boots – and a grin on his face as he snatched up the small sack of letters and headed over to Yixing.

“Nobody home?” The delivery man joked as he looked down at the plastic coated Chinese man.

Yixing sighed, “The early guy is on holiday and I forgot. I don’t have a key yet, so here I am” he explained with a playful roll of his eyes.

The mail man chuckled, “Ah, that’s bum luck. Aren’t you cold sat out here?” he frowned, looking at Yixing’s waterproofs as they dripped water steadily.

Yixing had to laugh at that, “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? You look ready for a picnic!”

“Hey, at least I have shelter” the man gestured to his van, “Besides, the shorts are comfortable”

Yixing shook his head in amusement, “Plastic isn’t, you should count your lucky stars” he said, “But at least I’m dry”

“At least you’re dry” the delivery man smiled easily, “Say, you’re the one that usually answers the door for the post, aren’t you?”

Yixing hummed, “I am. I’m surprised you could tell what with my change of look” he joked lamely.

“A cute face like yours is hard to forget” the delivery man flirted, “I’m Junmyeon, by the way”

Yixing laughed, “I’m Yixing. You know you’re getting soaked, right?”

“Worth it” Junmyeon shrugged, finally passing over the post to Yixing, “I hope you get let in soon”

“Me too. No got and get dry! No sense in us both looking wet and ridiculous” Yixing chuckled, shooing Junmyeon away playfully.

Junmyeon laughed easily in response, “Alright. Have a better day, Yixing!”

“You too” Yixing snorted, “Bye, Junmyeon”

Thankfully, it was only five minutes later than Jongdae showed up to let him in.

--

The next day found Yixing stuck outside again, only this time there was no rain and he was clad in his regular work get-up of grey slacks and a white button down. He sat himself down on the dry step to wait, internally cursing himself for being too impatient to just sit around at home for a while instead of bustling out the door at twenty past seven in the morning.

All in all, it was a pretty nice day. A drastic change to the day before, if anything.

He pulled out his phone with a stifled yawn and opened his browser before picking up where he left off on a story he’d been reading over the past could of days , which – if anybody asked – was not Spuffy fanfiction.

It was as Spike was breaking down and confessing his undying love for Buffy that the red post van pulled up to the curb and the engine cut.

Yixing put his phone in his pocket and tried to train his features into an indifferent look as Junmyeon stepped out of the vehicle and made about getting the usual sack of post before sauntering over to Yixing with a bright smile.

“You look nice and dry today” he commented breezily.

Yixing snorted softly in amusement, “I suppose being dry and locked out is a little better” he rolled his eyes. “Not that it makes a difference to your outfit, I see”

“Of course not. It’s shorts come rain, snow or shine” Junmyeon nodded, “However, you’re looking very dapper” he noted.

Yixing shook his head, “You should see the other lads in the office. I’m basically the runt of the litter” he scrunched his nose up in distaste.

Junmyeon rolled his eyes, “Please. I’ve seen the guys that work here, and whilst they’re very handsome, they don’t hold a candle to you” he said genuinely.

Yixing raised a teasing brow, “Are you flirting with me?” he asked.

Junmyeon laughed sweetly, “I’m on the clock, it’d be unprofessional of me” he answered diplomatically.

“Don’t avoid the question” Yixing laughed.

Junmyeon smirked, “What question?” he teased, handing over the sack of mail to Yixing.

Yixing rolled his eyes as an amused smile played about his lips, “You’ll admit it one day” he challenged.

“We’ll see” Junmyeon gave Yixing’s shoulder a playful pat, “See you tomorrow, Yixing!” he called as he began to walk back to his van.

“See you tomorrow, Junmyeon” Yixing laughed in return.

--

The third day saw Junmyeon there before Yixing.

He saw Junmyeon laugh as he rode past on his bike, headed around back to lock it up.

He took his time in chaining up his bike before rounding the building to greet the delivery man.

“Morning, Yixing” Junmyeon grinned from where he leant lazily against the wall.

Yixing wished he had more control over his face as a smile fell over his lips, “Good morning, Junmyeon. You’re up early” he noted as he moved to stand in front of the other man.

“It’s because I knew I’d get to see you” Junmyeon replied cheerily.

“Flirt” Yixing accused.

“Professional and friendly” Junmyeon shot back with a grin.

Yixing scoffed playfully, “Undeniable flirting”

“Treating customers fairly” Junmyeon countered.

“I’ll get you to admit it at some point, mark my words” Yixing shook his head in amusement.

Junmyeon blinked innocently, “Admit what?”

“Just give me the post” Yixing laughed.

Junmyeon smiled mischievously in return, “I’m not sure I trust you with it” he said calmly, holding the sack to his chest.

Yixing raised an amused brow, “Oh? Why is that?”

“You lack professionalism” Junmyeon teased, “I don’t know if I can trust such a casual man”

Yixing took a swipe forward to grab the post, but Junmyeon had seen it coming and darted out of the way, “Give it” he laughed, making another dive for the delivery man.

“You’re just proving my point” Junmyeon giggled as he continued to dance out of the way of Yixing’s grabby hands.

Yixing wouldn’t mind mornings so much if they were all like this. He darted forward quickly, startling Junmyeon as he trapped him against the wall, “Says you” he shot back cheekily.

Junmyeon’s breath was heavy as he laughed, giving in and pressing the mail against Yixing’s chest, “Says me” he hummed, “Did I mention you look nice today?” he added smoothly.

Yixing rolled his eyes, but the genuine smile on his lips gave him away, “You’re impossible” he said, “But thank you. You look pretty good yourself”

Junmyeon smiled sweetly at that, “Are you flirting with me?” he asked playfully.

“I’d never be so unprofessional” Yixing shot back, taking the post and stepping back to let Junmyeon free. He bit down on his lip as he looked over Junmyeon, “I’ll see you tomorrow, then?”

Junmyeon smiled, “See you tomorrow, Yixing” he promised, letting his hand run gently over Yixing’s arm before taking his leave.

Yixing let out the breath he didn’t know he was holding as Junmyeon drove away and Jongdae rounded the corner to greet him.

“Sup, motherer” the feline featured man grinned.

Yixing snorted, “Get ed, ” he returned as Jongdae went about unlocking the front door to let them in.

--

Day four saw the sun shining brightly as Yixing arrived at work. He kind of wished he’d remembered to bring a cap with him, but Yixing was pretty forgetful even at the best of time – not that his boss needed to know that at all.

It was with a sweat slick forehead that he locked up his bike and made his way around to the front of the building. At least Minseok would be back next week so he’d be able to get in as soon as he arrived.

There was a part of him, though, that was oddly disappointed, but he couldn’t pinpoint why.

In what had becoming temporary routine, he sat himself down on the step by the door and settled down to wait under the blearing sun.

Oh god, how he wished he had brought a cap. The heat was melting him.

He’d been there a good ten minutes by the time Junmyeon pulled up. He watched him go about the usual routine, though he ducked back into the front of the van to grab something before walking over to Yixing with his usual bright smile on place.

“Morning sunshine,” Junmyeon greeted, offering a cool bottle of water to Yixing, “Got you a present”

Yixing accepted it gratefully, “You’re an angel!” he gasped, uncapping it and drinking half of it down in one go.

Junmyeon chuckled, “I just didn’t want you getting dehydrated. God knows how long you sit out here” he said before adding, “Why do you come so early if you can’t get in?”

Yixing sighed, “Habit” he said, “I don’t like to dawdle at home once I’m ready, so I end up getting here at stupid o’clock each day” he explained, cringing at just how sad it sounded aloud.

But Junmyeon only ‘ah’ed in understanding, “I see” he smiled, “I have to say, I’m kind of glad though, since it means I get to see you.”

Yixing smirked, “Are we doing this again?” he asked teasingly.

“It’s my job to keep the customer sweet” Junmyeon shot back with practised ease.

But Yixing only laughed, “Well, if that’s the case, I’m not technically your customer. My company is. So you can drop the – as you so often put it – ‘professionalism’, Junmyeon”

“But then I wouldn’t be able to tease you” Junmyeon raised a brow in jest, “So what would be the fun in that?”

“You’re impossible” Yixing rolled his eyes.

Junmyeon grinned, “I’m adorable” he countered.

“You’re both” Yixing laughed, “You’re lucky you’re cute, otherwise I’d have run off by now”

Junmyeon’s grin widened, “You think I’m cute?”

“I think you’re incorrigible” Yixing shot back, “Give me the post and go away” he huffed, though there was no malice in his voice, and there was a smile playing about his lips.

Junmyeon smirked slyly, “Are you not going to manhandle me today?” he asked.

“Keep on like this and I’ll start thinking you want me to” Yixing raised an inquisitive eyebrow.

Junmyeon laughed, soft and sweet as he clutched onto the sack of post, “I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about” he feigned innocence.

“Of course not” Yixing said slowly before quickly reaching out and grabbing Junmyeon’s wrist, pulling him forward so that they were nose to nose.

Junmyeon let out a squeak of surprise, just barely managing to keep a hold on the post as he did.

“Is this manhandling acceptable enough for you?” Yixing asked lowly, his eyes glittering wickedly.

Junmyeon let out a shaky laugh, “I’m not sure. Maybe you should test your luck” he challenged.

Yixing smiled as he plucked the post from Junmyeon with his fee hand, “Maybe next time, handsome” he let go of Junmyeon’s wrist, chuckling slightly at the flustered look on the delivery man’s face.

“I… That wasn’t fair” Junmyeon shook his head in amusement once he had regained his composure.

Yixing hummed, holding the post on his knees, “I don’t believe I ever said I would play fair” he pointed out, “I like playing dirty” he almost purred. He couldn’t deny that he was having fun with this. admittedly, he’d always wanted to have a conversation with the handsome delivery man when he dropped off the post, but he had never had the ball to say more than ‘good morning.

A part of him was glad that he had been trapped in the rain that Monday, since it had sparked something between them that he was eager to explore.

Junmyeon nodded slowly, “I look forward to tomorrow then” he drew out, “Because two can play at that game, Yixing”

Yixing laughed lowly, “Brilliant. And thanks again for the water” he held up the half empty bottle to emphasize his point, watching as Junmyeon began to walk away.

The delivery man paused at his van, “My pleasure” he smiled, then took his leave.

--

Yixing didn’t want to say he was excited to see Junmyeon, nor was he willing to admit that his Friday feeling was heightened by the prospect of getting to see the other man’s smile, but he couldn’t deny that he was in a damn good mood as he cycled to work with SHINee’s Married to the Music blasting through his earphones.

He made it to the office in pretty good time, cycling around back and hopping off of his bike to lock it up for the day before heading around front to set up camp on the steps until Jongdae arrived to let him in as he’d been doing all week.

He was playing on his phone as Junmyeon’s van pulled up, prompting him to take out his earphones and slip them and his phone into his pocket.

Junmyeon went about his usual routine before making his way over to Yixing, smile already in place.

“Well, if it isn’t my favourite mailman” Yixing smiled slyly.

Junmyeon rolled his eyes good-naturedly, “Good morning to you too, sweetheart” he shot back easily, falling into their usual comfortable banter.

“Oh, it’s definitely a good morning now that you’re here” Yixing grinned, shooting Junmyeon a playful wink.

Junmyeon shook his head, “Be professional” he chastised teasingly, “This is strictly business, sir”

“Oh, I like that. You should call me sir more often” Yixing continued on. He wanted to get Junmyeon to admit to the flirting, even if it meant he had to up the ante himself. He hadn’t being lying about playing dirty.

But it seemed that Junmyeon was just as determined. “Well, I feel like I’ll never be able to say no to you” he drawled easily, “I think it’s the dimples. They’re really quite distracting”

Yixing hummed as he pushed himself to his feet so that he was face to face with Junmyeon, “I know a lot of ways that I can be pretty distracting” he exuded confidence in every way, from his tone to his body language.

But Junmyeon simply raised a brow, “I don’t doubt it, sir” he teased Yixing as though he were born to do it.

Yixing laughed softly, reaching out and wrapping his fingers over Junmyeon’s where they held the post sack, “Admit it”

“Nothing to admit” Junmyeon shot back, refusing to back down as Yixing took a step forward so that their chests were practically touching.

“Admit it” Yixing repeated, his voice slightly lower now.

Junmyeon pretended to think about it, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to be admitting to” he lied, a smarmy smile on his lips.

“The cute little act doesn’t fool me” Yixing said calmly as Junmyeon pressed forward, still feigning innocence, “Just admit it”

Junmyeon let out a soft breath, knowing Yixing could feel it ghost over his lips, “Can’t” he whispered.

“Why?” Yixing pushed.

Junmyeon smiled, “Got post to deliver” he grinned as he pulled away from Yixing, pushing the post into his hand as he did, “See you Monday, gorgeous” he winked before walking away and leaving a dumbfounded Yixing in his wake.

He was still stood frozen when Jongdae arrived.

“Close your mouth” the feline featured man tutted, “You’ll catch flies”

“You’ll catch my ing hands if you’re not careful, ” Yixing sniped back easily as he followed his good friend inside.

--

Monday saw Minseok back at work, so the main door was unlocked and Yixing could get inside. He let out a soft sigh as he walked up the stairs and slipping into the elder’s office.

“Hey, how was your holiday?” he asked, hopping up to sit on Minseok’s desk.

Minseok rolled his eyes, not bothering to shoo Yixing off since he knew that the younger would only end up back there soon enough, “It was nice” he told him, “Well, until I had to watch Kyungsoo making out with the pool boy – Jongin. So much for a best friends’ holiday” he snorted.

Yixing laughed, “If it’s any consolation, Jongdae missed you a lot” he said, a sly edge to his voice.

Minseok shot him a glare in return, “We’re not having this conversation again. There is nothing going on with me and Jongdae” he said, though the way his eyebrow twitched gave away his bluff.

“I know you were at his house last night” Yixing pushed.

Minseok didn’t rise to the bait, “Yeah? We had a catch up. We’re friends, stupid”

Yixing hummed, “Is that why there’s a hickey on your neck?” he smirked.

Minseok’s eyes widened as his hand flew up to his next to cover it before he whipped out his phone to check in the reflection. Then he realised, “You little !” he said.

“Thanks for confirming that” Yixing smirked at him smugly just as the main door knocked. “I’ll get it” he sang, hopping off the desk and leaving Minseok seething behind him.

He leisurely made his way down the stairs and across the foyer to answer the door.

“Well, if it isn’t my favourite post man” Yixing grinned as he pulled the door open.

Junmyeon grinned back easily, “Hello to you too, beautiful” he greeted, “Is it nice to not be locked out?” he teased.

“I don’t know” Yixing pretended the think about it, “I can’t manhandle you now. That’s disappointing”

Junmyeon chuckled, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” he said ominously, handing Yixing the post, “See you tomorrow, ‘Xing”

“See you tomorrow” Yixing watched him leave.

When he turned around after closing the door, he was met with a smirking Minseok.

“You’re hot for the post man” he looked far too happy by this for Yixing’s liking.

“ a ” he shot back.

--

The next few weeks past by much in the same way. Yixing would answer the door, they’d flirt, they’d say goodbye until the next day, then repeat.

Until three weeks later on a warm Friday morning; whereby Yixing found himself locked out again.

And ten minutes of him sitting on the step lead to that familiar red van pulling up and Junmyeon stepping out.

A grin bloomed over his face the moment his eyes landed on Yixing, “Talk about Déjà vu,” he laughed as he walked over to the Chinese man, post in hand.

“I’m starting to think it’s fate” Yixing snorted, getting to his feet and moving to stand in front of Junmyeon.

Junmyeon chuckled, “Maybe it is” he shrugged, “Why are you locked out again?”

“Minseok – the early guy – called in sick. He didn’t text me until I’d already left out” he frowned, “So here I am. But I got to see you, so it isn’t all bad”

Junmyeon’s cheeks coloured prettily at Yixing’s bluntness, “I’m glad seeing me makes your day less ty”

“Understatement” Yixing smiled, “Seeing you makes it worth coming into work” he blushed slightly.

A wicked grin spread over Junmyeon’s lips as he took a calculated step forward, “Oh really?” he purred.

Yixing rolled his eyes, “Yes really. But don’t let it get to your head”

“Too late” Junmyeon winked, “How can I not when a handsome man is feeding me compliments?”

“You’re impossible!” Yixing laughed.

Junmyeon raised a brow, “I’m adorable” he countered, not for the first time, succeeding in making Yixing laugh even more. A sound which he delighted in hearing.

“You’re both” Yixing stressed through his chuckles.

Junmyeon grinned, “Someone once told me they thought I was incorrigible too, if it helps”

“Smart guy” Yixing grinned.

Junmyeon hummed, “He’s pretty hot too. Just for the record” he beamed.

“Lord give me strength” Yixing tittered as he looked towards the sky for a moment before letting his gaze fall back on the delivery man, “What?” he asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Junmyeon’s smiled had softened, “I admit it” he said quietly after a few beats of silence, much to Yixing’s surprise.

“Admit what?” he teased lamely.

Junmyeon still laughed though, “I admit that I’m flirting with you” he caved.

Yixing bit down on his lip to keep from smiling too wide, “I feel like you’re gonna say something else. I know you wouldn’t just give in like that” he pressed, poking  Junmyeon gently in the chest.

Junmyeon reached up and caught Yixing’s hand, keeping it pointedly in his own, “But of course” he nodded, “I don’t work weekends”

“Nor do I” Yixing played along.

Junmyeon nodded, twisting his hand so that he could hold Yixing’s properly in his own, “And I don’t have any plans for tomorrow… yet”

“Me neither” Yixing smiled in amusement at Junmyeon’s insistence on drawing this out.

“So, if I were to ask you on a date..?” Junmyeon prompted.

Yixing laughed fondly, “I’d be inclined to accept” he laced his fingers through Junmyeon’s.

“Okay, let me give you my number and then you can text me your address?” Junmyeon asked hopefully.

With his free hand, Yixing pulled out his phone and offered it to Junmyeon.

Not willing to let go of Yixing’s hand, Junmyeon placed the post on the ground so that he could type in his number and save it as ‘Junmyeon v(^o^)v’ then handed it back to Yixing, who slipped it back into his pocket.

“Do you have something planned?” Yixing asked curiously.

Junmyeon smiled back ominously, “Perhaps. You’ll have to wait and see, won’t you?” he winked.

“Flirt” Yixing rolled his eyes.

Junmyeon beamed, “Only for you” he replied easily.

“Go away” Yixing let out a breathy laugh, “You’re too much” though he tightened his hold on Junmyeon’s hand slightly.

Junmyeon raised a brow at Yixing, “Are you sure you want me to go?” he questioned.

“No” Yixing admitted, “I like talking to you. I like you

“That’s a relief” Junmyeon chuckled, “Because I like you too”

Yixing sighed, “But you have post to deliver”

“I do,” Junmyeon nodded, leaning down and picking up the sack of letters and handing it over to Yixing, “But I’ll see you tomorrow. Text me later and I’ll tell you times and stuff” he smiled.

“Alright” Yixing relented, giving Junmyeon’s hand a soft squeeze before letting go.

Junmyeon chuckled, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Yixing” he said before daringly leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to Yixing’s cheek before talking his leave.

Yixing was still routed to the spot and grinning when Jongdae showed up and shoved him in an attempt to snap him out of his stupor.

“So,” Jongdae said as he unlocked the door, “Word on the street is that you fancy the post man”

Yixing snorted, “You and Minseok can piss right off, face” is all he responded with.

--

Yixing didn’t want to say he was nervous – but the woeful reality of it all was that he, in fact, was.

He and Junmyeon had been texting throughout the previous day and even more so the previous night until Junmyeon said he was off to bed and for Yixing to be ready at four for their date, and not to worry about getting dressed up – it would be a casual affair.

He risked a glance at the clock which told him that he had a good ten minutes before Junmyeon was scheduled to arrive, leaving him to bask in his own nerves.

It was ridiculous he thought, to be nervous about a thing he’d been wanting for so long, but still he couldn’t quite find it in himself to relax.

He moved over to the mirror to check himself over again, making sure that he looked alright. He’d opted for a pair of stylishly ripped black jeans, converse and a plain white t-shirt. He’d somehow managed to style his hair in way that it looked handsome – up off of his face – and sprayed on a bit of his favourite aftershave, since it never hurt to smell good.

And then finally his phone ring at two minute to four.

“Hello?” he answered, glad that he sounded a lot calmer than he felt.

Junmyeon laughed softly at his questioning tone, “I’m outside” he said “In the light blue ford focus”

Yixing hummed, “Alright, I’m on my way out now” he said as he grabbed his keys and wallet, tucking them away into his jean pockets.

“See you in a mo’” Junmyeon responded before hanging up and leaving Yixing to make his way outside to the car.

He couldn’t help but smile as he watched Junmyeon lean over and open his door as he walked over.

He smiled softly as he climbed in, “Thanks. So very gentlemanly of you” he grinned, closing the door behind him before buckling his seatbelt.

Junmyeon snorted, “You’re welcome, stupid” he rolled his eyes before setting off.

“So, where are we off to?” Yixing asked curiously as Junmyeon drove. He really did want to know, but he’d be damned if he let Junmyeon know just how much so.

Junmyeon shot Yixing a knowing smirk, “Somewhere” he answered easily, “Eager, are we?”

“Something like that” Yixing shot back with a roll of his eyes. Though he took a moment to look over how Junmyeon was dressed then.

If Junmyeon looked handsome in his work clothes, it was nothing compared to how he looked in casual clothes. He was donned in blue jeans that had been stylishly cuffed at the bottom, meeting his grey high-tops. On his top half he wore a pale blue r-shirt beneath a soft looking grey cardigan with slightly darker grey elbow patches – which Yixing found highly attractive on the delivery man.

He raked his eyes up to look at Junmyeon’s soft brown locks. He had styled his hair up, like Yixing, but where Yixing’s was perfectly in place, Junmyeon’s was purposely mussed, giving him the look of a man with natural appeal – which he had anyway, in Yixing’s humble opinion. Honestly, the entire look was making Yixing feel a little hot under the collar, but thanks to years of working with Kim Jongdae, self-control had become one of his strong suits.

“You look really good, by the way” Junmyeon spoke up after a minute, looking over at Yixing as they stopped at a red light, “Like, really good. I meant to say so before, but I was a little distracted” he winked playfully, making Yixing laugh.

“Thank you” he said anyway, “You look pretty hot, yourself. I didn’t think you could look any better than you did in those shorts, but I was damn wrong” he teased.

Junmyeon chuckled easily as they set off again, “Well, I decided to make a special effort today. I’m trying to impress this guy, you see. He’s bloody fantastic, and I want to make a good impression so that he agrees to a second date”

“Ah, I see” Yixing nodded, playing along, “Well, this is one lucky guy you’ve got your eye on. Anyone with half a brain wouldn’t be able to turn down a second date with someone as handsome as you”

Junmyeon fought back a smile as he checked his mirrors and made a left onto a long and winding road that was surrounded by an alcove of beautiful trees. “Trust me, if anyone is lucky, it’s me. This guy is real special”

“This guy is gonna end up blushing like a ing school girl if you don’t shut up” Yixing laughed, “Oh my god”

Junmyeon beamed, “I like it when you blush, though” he said, “It’s cute”

“I’m not cute” Yixing snorted, shifting slightly so that he was turned towards Junmyeon, giving him a brilliant view of the man’s side profile, he smiled softly at the grin on Junmyeon’s face. God, he wished he could see that smile all day every day.

Junmyeon shook his head in amusement, his eyes still fixed on the road ahead as he weaved his way through the country roads, “I beg to differ” he said, “You’re way cute. But you’re also handsome, and charismatic, and y.” He laughed, more to himself than anything, “I’m really glad you agreed to go out with me. I’ve been wanted to ask for ages, but I always chickened out at the last minute” he admitted sheepishly.

“Surely you must have known I’d say yes?” Yixing blinked, looking at Junmyeon incredulously. He hadn’t exactly been subtle about his attraction to the other man.

Junmyeon shrugged awkwardly, “I don’t know. I mean, you could have just been humouring me” he pointed out, but there was a softness in his eyes that made Yixing glad he wasn’t standing since he could already feel his knees going weak. “Point still stands”

“Well, I’m glad you asked me” Yixing smiled, reaching over and running a hand gently down Junmyeon’s upper arm before pulling back, “I’ve been wanting to get to know you outside of work situations. You know, so you can drop the whole professional act” he joked, making Junmyeon snicker.

“Ah, well you know how important remaining professional is to me” Junmyeon beamed, “But now I can show you my care free side. I’ve been told I’m a hoot”

Yixing smiled amusedly at that, but he couldn’t deny the overwhelming fondness that crept up on him as he looked at Junmyeon. The man was simply something else. He was so… normal, and yet he was like nobody that Yixing had ever met before.

Yixing was pretty easy-going, his friends were too, but unlike with Jongdae or Minseok or even Kyungsoo, Yixing felt an odd sort of contentment when it came to Junmyeon. Like something had just clicked into place and he felt at home.

The feeling struck him hard, because he hadn’t felt that before and he liked it, by god he did, but he was also scared of it, because sure, he and Junmyeon been flirting for a long time now, had known each other for even longer, but they still didn’t really know each other.

“You’re going to hurt yourself if you keep thinking so hard” Junmyeon said softly as he turned into a small – empty – carpark and pulled into a space by a large gate before cutting the engine and turning to Yixing, “What’s up?”

Yixing flushed at how observant Junmyeon was, “I just… It just kind of hit me that I like you a lot, and I don’t even really know you. Hell, you don’t know me, not really”

To his surprise, Junmyeon smiled, “Did you know that last week my dad realised my mum really likes this old band called The Eagles” he said, “They’re American or something, she went out of her way to look up the translations of their songs. He only found this out last week…”

“I feel like you’re trying to make a point with this” Yixing found himself saying as he took off his seatbelt and twisted to better face Junmyeon.

Junmyeon laughed, “I am” he told Yixing, “My point is – it isn’t about knowing someone per se. It’s about learning about them. My mum and dad have been together for like thirty-five years or something mental like that. And they’re still discovering new things about each other… I don’t mind that I don’t know everything about you, Yixing, because it means I get to learn about you. And I’m looking forward to it. I want to know silly things like your favourite ride at the theme park, or what you dislike about your job. I want to know interesting things like your favourite weather, what makes you smile on bad days, what you think of Sylvia Plath. I want to know what scares you. What excites you. And I have all the time in the world for that, so long as you’re willing to give it to me. So I’m not worried about that – because the things I already know about you are keeping me going

“I already know that you’re impatient. You can’t stand people that are late. I know that you love your friends, even if they tease you relentlessly – and that you can give as good as you get. I know you worry about what other people think of you, even though you know it’s not all that important. I know that you spent far too long trying to get your hair to stay right today, and I know that you would have cussed me out if I’d have taken you to a fancy restaurant.

“But mostly, I know that you like me, and I know that I like you. And that’s why I’m here. To see how this goes and to hopefully see if we can do it again” Junmyeon finished as he took off his own seatbelt, “Now, what do you say we get this date started?”

Yixing was absolutely speechless to say the least as he watched Junmyeon shoot him a grin before climbing out of the car. He only managed to recover himself as Junmyeon was getting a basket out of the boot, along with a thick blanket that he shoved haphazardly under one arm.

The Chinese man climbed out of the car and waited as Junmyeon locked it before the two of them set off towards the gate.

It was only after they entered and found themselves on a rustic looking stone path leading into the woods that Junmyeon reached out with his free hand and laced his fingers through Yixing’s. Yixing was adamant he didn’t blush, but he knew that Junmyeon had already seen his red cheeks.

He simply held a bit tighter onto Junmyeon’s hand and let himself be lead along the path.

They chattered about nonsensical things as they walked, laughing and joking about their shameless flirting, and flirting a little bit more when they did, until they finally came out into a small clearing by a slow running river with a tiny waterfall. There was a small bank by the water where a semi-circle of formed around a large oak tree, it’s roots threading through the water, creating bumps in the path and disrupting the steady flow in the best possible way.

Junmyeon was reluctant when he let go of Yixing’s hand so that he could lay out the blanket and set the basket on top of it, but it didn’t matter because one he hand, he took Yixing’s hand again and pulled him to sit down beside him.

“I didn’t know what you liked best, so I tried to make a little of everything” Junmyeon smiled as he opened the basket and began to unpack the food he’d made along with several drinks.

Yixing looked at Junmyeon, unable to hide the awe in his eyes, “You put in all this effort… for me?”

“Of course” Junmyeon’s brows furrowed, “Why wouldn’t I? I did ask you out, I wasn’t just going to half-arse it”

“I… I just didn’t… expect. Nobody’s really ever gone to this much trouble for me before” Yixing laughed a little amazedly.

“More fool them” Junmyeon smiled warmly, fiddling idly with Yixing’s fingers as he did, having finished unloading all of the bits and bobs he had prepared.

Yixing chuckled, “you’re kind of something else, you know that”

“Ah, now you’re just being flattering” Junmyeon grinned, “Would you like a drink?”

Yixing hummed, “Juice would be lovely”

“I have mango or apple and raspberry”

“Mango, please” Yixing said, laughing as Junmyeon pouted when he realised he would have to let go of Yixing’s hand again. “Relax, you can hold my hand whenever you like. It isn’t about to disappear”

Junmyeon flushed prettily, “I know that… I just… I really like you. And I don’t want to mess this up, you know?”

“Trust me,” Yixing smiled warmly, “Just be yourself and this will go brilliantly”

“Promise?”

“Promise”

And it did. Junmyeon found that outside of work, Yixing was as amazing as he had imagined and then some. He was sarcastic and funny, and made terrible jokes, but he also laughed at Junmyeon’s terrible jokes which was even better.

He didn’t hold back when it came to casually affection and he was open and honest about his thoughts and opinions on many things, which Junmyeon found spectacular.

They had a lot of similarities as well as some differences in opinion which kept the conversation flowing and more than a little interesting – especially when they started a debate on who was the best Marauder in Harry Potter – Yixing was adamant it was Remus, whilst Junmyeon remained firmly set on Sirius – but more than anything, they both felt so immensely free spirited around the other.

The date lasted longer than either of them had anticipated and it was as the sky began to darken and the stars began to make an appearance that either of them realised just how late it had gotten.

They packed away their things slowly, folding up the blanket together before linking hands again and beginning the walk back to the car – though they walked much slower than they had on the way in.

Yixing lingered as Junmyeon popped the basket and such into the boot and then shut it with a small grunt before leaning against it, making the Chinese man chuckle slightly.

“Laugh all you will, it’s a heavy boot, alright?” Junmyeon rolled his eyes, but there was a sparkling amusement to his smile.

Yixing hummed, and leant back against the boot of the car beside Junmyeon, “I’m sure” he said, “Would you like me to swoon over your strength?” he asked mischievously.

“Oh, I’d love nothing more” Junmyeon snorted, slipping his arm behind Yixing casually, though the move didn’t go unnoticed by the other man.

Yixing smirked, turning to face Junmyeon with his whole body, “Gosh, Junmyeon, you’re so strong. I wish you would just wrap me up in your arms and never let go” he teased playfully.

Junmyeon scoffed good-naturedly before swinging himself around and pushing Yixing to lean back on the car as he came to stand in front of him, his arms either side of the Chinese man, trapping him against the cool metal of the car boot. “Don’t tease” he said dangerously softly, “It’s unbecoming”

“And what are you going to do about it?” Yixing quirked a brow at the Korean man.

Junmyeon smirked, “Keep pushing and find out” he challenged.

Yixing’s hands moved to grip onto Junmyeon’s hips, pulling him forward so that they were flush against one another, “I’m calling your bluff” he half-whispered, his voice nothing if not alluring.

Junmyeon leant in so that his lips were a hairs breadth from Yixing’s, “I never bluff” he practically purred, and by god did that do things to Yixing that he didn’t even know could be done to him.

“Prove it” Yixing pushed, not backing down in the slightest. He knew what he wanted. He knew that Junmyeon wanted. And he didn’t plan on leaving until he got it.

Junmyeon let out a soft, almost incredulous laugh before he bit the bullet and closed the small gap between them, pressing his lips to Yixing’s with practised ease.

Yixing sighed against the softness that was Junmyeon’s lips, parting his lips to make way for Junmyeon’s curious tongue.

They kissed for a while, ‘neath the stars, pressed up against Junmyeon’s car until the chill of the evening caught up with them and they had to pull apart to save from chattering teeth and shivering bodies.

They climbed back into the car and Junmyeon took Yixing’s hand in his own as they drove back to Yixing’s house.

It seemed like time moved too fast and they were parked up outside of the house before either of them wanted to be.

“Do you want to come in for a bit?” Yixing asked, then blushed as he realised how it sounded, “Not… Not for…” he coughed awkwardly, “I meant just for a hot drink or something? I’m not… , you can shut me up at any time, you know”

Junmyeon laughed, “Sorry, I like watching you get all flustered. It’s cute. Don’t worry, I wasn’t planning to jump into bed with you on the first date” he chuckled, “But that drink does sound nice. We can discuss where you want me to take you on our second date”

“We’re going on a second then, are we?” Yixing couldn’t help but tease as they climbed out of the car and made their way over to the front door of Yixing’s house.

Junmyeon beamed, “A second, a third, maybe even a fourth if you’re lucky”

“I’m feeling pretty lucky” Yixing smiled, almost shyly as he looked up at Junmyeon from beneath his lashes, fiddling in his pocket for the door keys as he did.

“Yeah” Junmyeon smiled back, “Me too”

Yixing opened the door to let them in, and as he watched Junmyeon settled down on the sofa, he couldn’t help but think that lucky didn’t even begin to describe just how the Korean man made him feel.
